Lady Greer was a hellion from the moment she could walk. So, when the young woman is forbidden by her father, the Earl of Sutherland, to sail, she steals a boat and rows it out into the firth anyway. But her relaxing jaunt turns into so much more when a storm ravages the chill waters and the prospect of death is soon upon her.
The last thing Roderick MacCulloch, Laird of Gleann Mórinnse Castle, expects to find while out scouting his property is a soaked lass upon his shores. When she demands he take her back to her clan, he recognizes her as the mischievous lass who taunted him at a festival years before. Roderick realizes this might be his chance to have a bit of fun and give Lady Greer a taste of her own medicine.
But Roderick’s chance at revenge turns into a merry chase across the Highlands that leads them both to unexpected passion, perilous danger…and maybe even love.

7/8/2021 - The Highlander’s Hellion is another fun, sexy, sweet, & slightly suspenseful addition to the Sutherland Legacy series by Eliza Knight. Again, while each book stands on its own – characters and a few minor events from previous books are mentioned and it’s best to listen to these in order.
I love the way Knight approaches the Grumpy/Sunshine trope with Roderick having a great deal weighing him down but not being cruel/mean to anyone. Greer is a wonderful… well… hellion. While some of her chaos is intentional much is just due to an adventurous spirit. Roderick is equally dismayed and enamored by her behavior. Greer delights in making him smile. They are an adorable couple.
Travels require them to get to know each other better than they did during previous superficial meetings. While there is a misunderstanding that happens, it’s resolved fairly quickly and I continue to appreciate that most of the angst is light and from external forces/situations.
Looking forward to book 4, The Highlander’s Secret Vow.
Narration: Antony Ferguson continues to be a gem to listen to and a great fit with Knight’s writing. I enjoy his accents and emotions as well as his ability to highlight Knight’s wonderful sense of humor.
Lady Greer, daughter of Magnus & Arbella, is a hellion and a free spirit that cannot tolerate the thought of being kept from doing what she loves, but that is exactly what happens when her father forbids her to sail. In an act of defiance, she takes her boat out alone and gets caught in a storm.
Roderick McCulloch aka Grim has known more than his share of loss, his mother who died giving birth, his father who was killed in an ambush and his beloved sister Jessica who was a troubled soul who took her own life. Roderick has decided that he is better off without love and the pain it brings, as laird, he has too many people depending on him to lose himself in emotion and the last time he contemplated marriage he was almost crippled for life...
After almost a decade of peace, Ina Ross is starting trouble on the McCulloch lands again - raiding and stealing livestock. Grim needs to restore the stolen property to prove to his clan, he is worthy of the title Laird. After a successful night of retrieving his animals and learning information about Ina, he goes to the beach to think. But he doesn't find the peace he was seeking, instead he finds Greer, the woman that 2 years ago he considered marrying - until she almost killed him with a spear, on the brink of death. He saves her and takes her to his castle.
The next day he finds her awake and tells her he will take her home - she begs him to take her across land rather than by boat and he agrees. They set out and they each begin to discover how much they have in common and how suited they are. But before they can even think about acting on their feelings they will have to overcome ambushes, a demented villain, angry fathers and misunderstandings.
I thought this was a good addition to the Sutherland Legacy and it was nice to catch up with Magnus and Arbella as well as Greer's sisters and brothers. Liam obviously has something going on and I personally can't wait to read his story. The book was well written and the romance was a very slow burn - I found myself getting annoyed with them both and thinking, just kiss already!! But, overall it was a good book with a lot of emotion, a few laughs, action and a very sweet ending.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review of an eARC that was provided to me.*
You could likely say all hell tends to break loose whenever Lady Greer takes a notion to be herself, folks. Perhaps a better description would be she seems to be a magnet for trouble and mayhem. Either way, I couldn’t help but root for this verra spirited, lovely lass, as she tries to find a balance between living and loving life to the fullest yet finally letting sense and sensibility guide her, as well. At least she does know when to look back with regret and remorse as she’s come to realize her past actions have at times had unintended consequences.
Laird Roderick (aka Grim) has become used to living by rigid rules written to ensure his responsibility to his clan always come first. His heart has become bogged down with self-imposed, misguided blame and guilt for a tragic loss he didn’t see coming. I must say I was surprised to learn of his past history with Greer. It certainly set the stage for a rather uncomfortable reunion between them. He certainly took it like a man when Greer’s father called him out on what he deemed as suspected misbehaving behavior with his daughter. Ironically, Grim had mostly been a very restrained gentleman, despite his strong longing and lust for Greer.
As usual this author interjects just the right amount of authentic Scottish brogue and intrigue to keep me fully engaged and cheering on the main couple as they dance around each other. Ultimately, true love won’t be denied, of course. Greer and Grim do get their fairy tale HEA. Along the way, I was quite entertained with their back and forth banter, sizzling chemistry, and Greer’s feisty, spirited antics.
Eliza Knight remains at the top of my favorite Scotland themed romantic tale author list. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next in The Highlander's Secret Vow.
Title: The Highlander’s Hellion, Series: The Sutherland Legacy (Book 3), Author: Eliza Knight, Pages: 109, stand-alone but part of a series, can feel their chemistry and emotional connection, slow burn, conflicted hero, not steamy until near the end.
Book 1 - The Highlander’s Gift Book 2 - The Highlander’s Stolen Bride Book 3 - The Highlander’s Hellion Book 4 - The Highlander’s Secret Vow

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 Just when you think you found you favourite book , Eliza brings out another in The Sutherland Legacy, and WoW ! I’ve read more Highlander books than I can count , but this is among the best series so far . It has Grim MacCulloch , who is so divine you could eat him , and Greer Sutherland, who’s got so much sassy it’s addictive. These two together are funny and so great to read about , especially once dad and Brother arrive on the scene. If you want a great Highland adventure with a Hunk a Hellion and a whole lot of fun , you’ll not go far wrong with this one. Highly recommend!
Lady Greer Sutherland has been labelled a hellion for as long as she can remember. So when her father the Earl of Sutherland forbids her to sail alone again, she steals a boat and does just that. She rows it out into the firth however what she thinks is going to be a last relaxing sail turns into a nightmare when a storm ravages the chill waters and certain death is upon her.
While Roderick MacCulloch, Laird of Gleann Morinnse Castle is out scouting his property he finds the last thing he ever thought he'd find. He finds a lass unconscious and for all other purposes basically dead washed up on his shore. Even though she is utterly waterlogged he recognizes her as the mischievous lass who taunted him at a festival when they were children. After she demands he take her back to her clan Roderick realizes this might be his chance to have a bit of fun and give her a taste of her own medicine however Roderick's chance at revenge turns into a faced paced race across the Highlands that leads them both to unexpected passion, perilous danger and possibly even love.
Eliza Knight is such an incredibly talented author who has written so many good books. Every time I read another book from her I'm shocked because she always manages to make it better then the last. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Greer and Roderick. They were great together and Greer is such a tough cookie. There was no doubt in my mind that she was a Sutherland. Roderick had his own problems to battle, but he came out of it as a better person.
An Adventure as only Eliza Knight can create, prepare to be taken along on a ride with Roderick (aka Grim), a gorgeous highlander and Lady Greer, the feisty lass that almost brought him down! Greer, daughter of the Earl of Sutherland had finally given in and was going to hopefully find a suitable husband soon. But with her rebellious spirit she decides to take one more sail out in the firth and that would be her last. Of course, how do you think that came out? Lets just say she ended being washed up on shore across the firth at Roderick, Laid of Gleann Morinnse castle! Almost drowned, he could not believe who he found! Oh, there was a past between the two and he had a lasting reminder of his last encounter with the lass. Wanting to go home, he takes her on a long journey that makes all kind of mischief for the two. Full of great banter back and forth, chemistry that almost ignites and that wonderful Scottish brogue, I was totally enchanted with these two and could not wait to see what would happen! Another great addition to this series and cannot wait for the next story!!
Ooooh, that ending....SO romantic!! I can't say enough how much I'm enjoying this series and honestly, they just keep getting better and better. This one is so full of humour, you find yourself chuckling and swooning, sometimes at the same time! lol Special mention to Greer's dog "Jewel", what a hoot that pup is!
I adored Greer, she has got to be the most daring heroine I've ever read in a book and there's a good reason she is called a "hellion" but she also has a heart of gold. I also loved Roderick (Grim), a very swoon worthy hero! Page after page of adventure, sweet and sexy moments, danger, humour and romance, the story doesn't disappoint.
Eliza Knight is an author whose books I will gladly fill my reader with:)
Love, love the Sutherland family!!!! Every book Eliza Knight has written I have enjoyed. This is about Lady Greer, the Hellion of the family, and her love of rowing her currachs on the firth. Two years ago she was in competition that didn’t end so well, since she ended throwing her spear at a fish and it ended up in the thigh of Laird Roderick “the Grim” MacCulloch. After being told by her father that she could not take her currach out for a few weeks, she is angry so what does do? She defies her father and out she goes. Suddenly a storm appears and she is too far from home to make it back. The storm is so bad that it capsized her currach and she tries to swim to shore. Laird Roderick is riding by and sees a dog and something in the water. He checks to see what was going on and finds a young lady. He saves her life , takes her to his house to care for her. This book is to good to not read! Find out what happens on the road to Greer’s home. HAPPY READING
A quick read filled with the emotional upheaval of dealing with shadows from the past, longing for acceptance, thrilling adventures, the unexpected resurgence of desire for love, and wonderful, spirited characters you can’t help but fall in love with, The Highlander’s Hellion will capture your imagination from the very start as you travel with Roderick and Greer through a multitude of unplanned adventures which reveal their intricate personalities, flaws, and the revelations of their true character. You experience a series of heart pounding adventure and excitement, on the way to your happily ever after. The repartee between Greer and Roderick as well as their thoughts on the subjects at hand are delightful. Another sensational write by Eliza Knight in this third book of the series. I eagerly await the next installment of the life and loves of the wonderful Sutherland family. This one is easy to recommend as it can be read as a stand alone book or as part of the series.
I loved this by Eliza Knight! This one is a sensuous historical romance, with adventure, and fun. I really enjoyed how Roderick never knew what the spirited and spunky Greer would do next. Loved the parts were Roderick and his brother Joh have the discussion on whose warming Greer up and also Jewel and the cat just made me giggle! I really like when characters from other books show up in other books. Eliza has a way of grabbing you the fist few pages and then you can't put the book down until the end.
THIS WAS SWEET BUT IT DIDN'T SWEEP ME OFF ME FEET. THE STORY WAS MORE OR LESS A COMMON PLOT YOU WILL
GRIM/RODERICK became Laird when his entire family except his younger brother passed away. Young for a Laird, he had no choice but to shoulder the burden and responsibility to keep everyone safe. Roderick is plagued with self-doubt about his abilities, especially when he blamed himself for failing to stop their mentally disturbed sister from committing suicide. GRIM is his middle name when he's barely smiled, laughed or had anything to be merry about, until our heroine swept up ashore, back into his life. Many years back, an accident caused by Greer left him with an impaled spear in his thigh, leaving him scarred for life. On cold days, he feels the pain in his thigh. They left with less than amicable feelings between them, and when she's left for dead now, his better self rescues her and later escorts her back home. During the journey, both fell in love with each other. Roderick's a good man. It's not hard to like him - caring, thoughtful, a gentleman and protective. Despite the sweetness, I thought Roderick's character could use a bit more exploration. All we see are the good parts...but where were the bad ones?
GREER is a hellion alright, and I loved her for it. Although she's headstrong, reckless and mischievous, deep down she's hesitant about who she is. I KNOW. She's already a whirlwind of emotions, so how could she not know? That's the problem. All her life, everyone calls her a hellion. Does she want to be recognized only for her mishaps? What else is she good for? When her father forbids her from going sailing, since she's to be wedded soon to a man of her choosing - hopefully, she defies her old man and got shipwrecked in the storm, sweeping ashore to Roderick's land. Greer still holds the guilt of what happened to Roderick years back, and here's her moment to make amends to. Soon, she finds herself seduced by his gentleness and the strength and safety of his arms.
OVERALL this was an easy to read, hellion heroine meets serious hero, one of my favourite highland troupes. You definitely won't feel bored with this one.
Lady Greer Sutherland’s father, the Earl of Sutherland, has decided it’s time his hellion of a daughter marry. To keep her safe he has forbade her from sailing, but she decides she needs be out on the water and decides to steals a boat and rows it out into the firth anyway. Roderick MacCulloch, Laird of Gleann Mórinnse Castle has been out looking for Clan Ross raiders when he comes upon a young woman half drowned upon his beech. He quickly realizes he’s found Greer the mischievous rebellious lass who taunted him a few years ago at a festival, a lass who at one time he thought to marry before she humiliated him. Roderick needs to return Greer home and speak to her father the Earl about the raids, but returning Greer homes soon turns into a faced paced race across the Highlands. The characters have great chemistry and passions just waiting to be released in this adventure filled story with danger, intrigue, mystery and romance. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.
An entertaining tale of a spirited young woman named Lady Greer, who didn’t take well to being told “no”. Well, she thinks she’s merely “spirited”, while everyone around her thinks she far worse. On one such occasion, she defied the edict of her father, which landed her in the company of (and at the mercy of)the very attractive Laird Roderick MacCullough. They’d met before, years before, and Roderick remembered Lady Greer as a younger, yet rather troublesome girl. Now she was a woman, and despite their past, his attraction to her is stronger than he wants to admit. But now is his chance at a little bit of tit for tat.... The two become embroiled in an unexpected intrigue that leads to an adventure while Roderick is attempting to protect Lady Greer and return her home. But will she return home that same woman she was when this all began? This story is a short, fast paced, humorous book and it’s a fun read from start to finish. I highly recommend it!
Having been allowed to be whatever she pleased, Lady Greer has become a bit spoiled. Angry and disappointed with her father’s orders, she disobeys them-only to end up shipwrecked and washed ashore. Rescuing a very wet maiden, Laird Roderick promised to not allow her to die, even though she had been his nemesis in the past. This book has sad and funny moments. One of the best: the argument between Roderick and his brother as to who will “warm her up” with their body heat. Returning Greer to her family proves advantageous for Roderick. He and her father become allies to fight a common enemy. Lady Greer and Laird Roderick were always destined to be together, and having the two of them work together to battle the evil Ross was the final push for love.
When Roderick sees a body in the surf he runs to help. When he rolls the female body over the last thing he expects to see is Lady Greer the hellion. Roderick and Greer have a past that he would rather forget, but he can’t see to get her out of his mind. From the moment Greer wakes up in Roderick’s bed the adventure begins! I loved Greer, she is so much fun and I loved their interaction. Greer made Roderick come alive and feel. This story was so much fun to read. It was full of adventure, fun, and romance. I have read many books by Eliza Knight and I loved this one! This story is a must read. Definitely five stars!
Lady Greer has been a willful young woman from the time she was born. After being told she could no longer sail by her father, she ran for the water and sailed away in defiance and into a storm. Roaming his lands to check for damages from the storm became an unexpected adventure, as Laird Roderick finds a nearly dead young beauty. When she demands to be taken back home, he recognizes the woman who taunted him at a festival long ago. Their ride back to her father's lands is full of unexpected twists and turns as they face enemies, passion, and even love. The banter in this story is even better than in previous Sutherland Legacy series books. A fun and entertaining highlander romance read.
Loved Greer and Rodericks story. Greer injured Roderick by accident several years ago. He left humiliated but his leg never healed completely. When Greers father told her he has invited several men she might chose a husband from she wanted to rebel. Instead she took her boat out for one last trip with her dog. When she got caught up in a storm she thought she would die when she was thrown overboard. Roderick was coming back from getting his stolen cattle when he saw something on the beach. What he saw tugged at his heart, it was Greer and he needed to save her. What neither realized at first but it was fate that brought them together. A wonderful story with a beautiful ending.
What a fabulous read!!! It had a little of everything I love about Eliza Knights writing! Intrigue, danger, a great hero, a wonderful heroin and steamy!! I got pretty engrossed in the story quickly and read in a day. Besides the oh so steamy, the one thing I really enjoyed about this story was the way the little back story was not revealed all at once. It was revealed a little at a time, the way it was time released during the few chapters was an absolute tribute to the story. Extremely enjoyable and highly recommended!!
Well crafted tale of a woman who was called a hellion by her family but after surviving a near death experience realizes her foolishness of many of her previous actions.
Saved by a highlander, one she had grievously injured 2 years before, Greer begins to see the wonderful man he is and falls in love with her saviour.
Roderick tries to initially avoid Greer because of her wild ways but soon comes to realize that Greer brings him out of his sterile colourless life.
Greer is not happy her father has decided she needs to marry so she going on one last trip out to sea. Greer ends up in a predicament when the sea gets nasty, she washes up on Laird Roderick McCullough's shore and he is not happy about it, a few years back she shot an arrow and wounded him and he was left with a limp. He has no choice but to see to her welfare. Let the fun begin.
I love to read a historical romance when I need a little pick me up or when I need to clear my mind. This author always tells a great story and the characters are always likable. Also, I have always loved the chemistry between the main couple in this book, and her others. I have come to really like the Sutherland clan and this author.
Greer and Rodrick have a fabulous story that will take you on an elaborate journey. The author give us the Sutherland Family in this series and they are never boring. I thoroughly enjoy this hellion with Rodrick. She is feisty and sassy and he is always alert. Never a dull moment in this story. I received this as a gift from a friend.
Loved Greer and Roderick's story! Each book is better and better. Eliza's books grab you right from the start and it's hard to put them down. And I really liked how you know the families. I would love the series to continue. I just don't want them to end! Bravo Eliza!
Have you ever made a mistake that could impact someone else's life with pain. Greer is rebellious when her father tells her not to sail. Little does she know a storm is brewing that could take her life.
This book was well written. I couldn't put it down waiting for the next chapter. The characters were easy to follow with each chapter I read. I totally recommend this book.
Another wonderful read. Love that Grim and Greer find love amidst with adventure and deception from Ina Ross. Highly recommend. Eliza Knight never fails at drawing the reader into any of her stories.
Wow I have read the first three and most say it's worth it. I have read most of the book that the author has written , and she has kept us entertained can't wait to read the rest
I read this book a couple of years ago and have been trying to find it again. It’s so whimsical and romantic. I love the way Greer and Grim bring out the fun in each other. And I always love a happy ending!
