They call me Uniter of Realms, Bringer of Peace, High Queen. But I’m just a fake psychic with a bad childhood and a stack of past due bills.
Five realms hang in the balance, three races whose lives depend on magic, and one corrupt king hoarding it all for himself.
My role? Oh, just fixing it. Easy, right?
But a handful of sexy realm leaders insist I’m the human-born with demon blood—each vying for attention, each one’s touch drawing something strange and blissful from me. Sweet, attentive Callum, pragmatic and commanding Sorin, dark and intuitive Verrill, and icy, collected Jadzeera. Each one has something to teach me—about magic and about myself.
The longer I stay in these hell realms the closer I grow to each realm leader, the more my power grows and the more I realize I cannot simply have one realm leader.
I need them all by my side—and in my bed—to bring the realms back together.
Demon Called is a fast-burn RH with an LGBTQ+ female lead. This fun, sexy ride is packed full of seductive demons, a smart heroine, a wisecracking best friend, and a teleporting cat.
Jewel Killian writes spicy paranormal romance in lots of subgenres but generally sticks to the different flavors of reverse harem. Monsters, omegaverse, fae ... who knows what's coming next but you can trust it'll melt your kindle and make you wish you magic was realy.
2.25 This is not my usual reading fare. But the yeses include paranormal and demons. I really should pay more attention to the blurb to find out what books are going to be like, I suppose.
The book is short, and there is not much to the story anyway. But what it lacks in depth it attempts to overcome (pun intended) with bonking the ripped and gorgeous men, and one woman. It ends suddenly, after sex with all of them. Not a complete story at all. I'm not reading the next in the series. But I would if there had been more depth, more details, and more to the characters.
Didn’t know what to expect from this book. First read from this author. I didn’t think I would enjoy it that much because the idea was strange to me. A human with demon powers? But I was certainly curious enough to see how it would turn out so I dove in. Very mixed feelings. The heroine really takes charge and does a “fake it till you make it” vibe while doing it. But I didn’t see any growth for her, she just played the part. But we shall see if that changes. I will be reading the next installment.
So this book has a great storyline. I loved where it was going. However I wasn't a fan of the MC. It felt like she was rushed into the whole situation. Her feelings were rushed and she took on this whole other personality without too much thought. I feel that it happened too quickly.
I had a bit of trouble deciding on 3 stars or 4 for this book but in the end Killian’s writing got it over the line. I enjoyed Demon Called for the most part; it was a quick easy read with interesting characters.
The main character, Zurie does not let herself get swamped down by emotions, she compartmentalises and moves on. This is great, except I felt she moved on to being bossy Queen a tad too quickly - if I was one of the demons being bossed about straight away, it’d grate on my nerves. The contenders for her harem are a diverse lot that don’t fall into the typical tropes, which is nice.
Even though it was only short, 160 pages to be exact, Killian has deftly used her skill in writing to paint a vivid picture of what the five realms are like. Her writing flows well and care has been taken with the editing.
Demon Called is a medium burn RH, but if you are not keen on it being FFMMM then this might not be for you as the MC practices equal love. There is a bit of a cliffhanger but it’s not wholly unexpected which lessens the blow.
I really enjoyed the characters and the world building but had some issues with certain aspects of the book, such as the pacing and the MC getting her bossy on so early. This is one I finished easily but am unsure if I’ll pick up the second book or not.
The synopsis of this book intrigued me because it was more than just a reverse harem story of 5 guys and 1 girl, here we have another girl in the mix and demons are actually not as bad as we were meant to believe and there is a great premise for a huge buildup. I don't want to give away any spoilers but I think the author did a good job of building a multi-dimensional world and the characters are likable. The grammar and proofreading was actually almost perfect which was great because I hate when I have to reread something because of errors. My only gripe with this book is that Zurie the main character accepts her new fate and all this non-human stuff to readily and just goes into her role like it's all she's ever known, that was very unbelievable. Definitely could have written it better, but other than that its a fantastic read.
I liked this book okay. It was really short, and I thought the MC, Zurie, took to everything too quickly; it seemed weirdly fast to me. She was super suddenly: "I am queen! I am in charge!" and it seemed off to me - before she wasn't really like that. Also, she has a Dark Past, which seems to never fail to annoy me these days. Are there no main characters who have both parents, who are good to them, and have lived lives that are, if not totally rainbows and unicorns, at least pretty normal and bland? God. Anyway, 3 stars. I probably won't read book 2, I'm not sure.
A fun read. I liked the characters and the plot a good deal. Unique from other supernatural RH stories I've read. That said I wish it had worked a little slower with the MC's development. Going from downtrodden, abused, homeless, scrounging to house and feed herself to bring a high queen who can develop war strategy in a few days felt like too much of a stretch. Also the fire d Emma felt like too much of a thrown in plot device and less of a real character. Otherwise an excellent read.
I'm not good at writing reviews. Won't ever be good at it. The book was good and started quickly. I tend to get bored after the 3rd chapter of something if the story doesn't get interesting by then. I didn't have that with this one. The only thing that bugged me was the chapters were really short and each chapter page was it's one page. Not anything that really matters though
A fast moving plot with a lot room of for growth that isn't full explored. Perhaps because of it's length I didn't feel connected to the characters very well. At least not connected enough that I want to read the second book when there are so many other novels out there.
Again, it's not a bad book considering how well it's written compared to a lot of other books. It's just as the two stars note - 'okay'.
Demon called is about a girl who finds out she’s the saviour of demon kind- the book has a lot of potential but for me it fell short we find out she was abused as a child but it’s not delved into much - and then the fact that she is perfectly fine with hooking up with 5 people she doesn’t freak out she just goes for it. This book had so much potential but for me it fell short
I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I absolutely loved that this book had female on female action as well as female on male action, and as well as having an amazing plot to follow and definitely grow on with all the directions it could take!! This book has left me salivating at the mouth to read the second one as soon as it comes out!!!
It's rare to find a fast paced story that still manages to be both intriguing and well told. Add in a helping dose of serious demon hotness and you get this perfect little gem right here! Between the elaborate and beautiful world building and fascinating storyline, I absolutely cannot wait for more.
This was a nice short read, but it was interesting all the same! I enjoyed how the author created the various worlds and weaved them together. I was able to read this book free as part of Kindle Unlimited, but I will definitely be supporting this author and purchasing the next few books in her series to see how things play out!
Very good start to a new series, strong characters and a fun storyline.I can't wait to see what the second book has in store for us I would recommend it the author has a fun way of writing
What's not to love about a book that has hot demon kings (and queen), a powerful female MC, and plenty of action (including some scorching hot sexy times)?! This story is a lot of fun and that ending has me dying for more!! Can't wait to find out what hawkers next!!
Great series, fast burn RH, although a bit short. Love the fact the MFC is bi and there is also a woman in her harem. Wouldn't have minded if it also had some mm but it was definitely a fun and 🌶️ read. Will definitely be reading more from this author.
It took me a while to finally pick it up and read it but I'm glad I did. This is a new one for me I haven't read an rh that included another woman, but it worked.
