Ever felt like your life is missing something? Look no further. The answer is Novotny’s debut novel, ‘Remade’.

Although I have always been a sucker for space operas, one of my fave films being Treasure Planet, I have never been able to find a book that quite satisfied my space opera cravings… Until Dani. Her story was EXACTLY my jam. Ever heard that saying that goes, “Write the book you’d like to read”? No need for me to do so anymore. Dani has taken care of it for you sci-fi lovers!

When Aliya wakes up from a freak car accident inside a spaceship, she has no clue about the true extent of the 180º turn her life has taken. Not only will she be forever unable to return to her home planet, Terra; she has also been… Remade. Her once frail human body is now strong and deadly, making her the perfect candidate for the King Galaxy’s body of Protective Forces. Although she tries to fit in, Aliya can’t help the way her abilities tell her apart from everyone else. Once she’s drawn for the top-notch Nova Squad, will she be able to keep the Galaxy from falling into the hands of those who want to tear it apart?

This book stole my heart, and I don’t think I’m ever getting it back. You guys know that the found family trope is my all-time favourite, and it’s been so amazingly executed by Dani in ‘Remade’! I have adopted the entire Nova Squad, and not even all the cyborgs in the galaxy will take my babies away from me. Dani’s quill was agile, balancing description, action, and emotion with expertise. She had me traveling from Callais to Charra aboard the Starfire, dodging bullets, and massaging my sore muscles after a particularly challenging sparring session. Gripping and phenomenally-paced, this book was an excellent finale to my 2020 read list, and I can’t thank @daninovotny enough for having given me the chance to fall in love with it. Dani, you’ve got me head over heels with your writing! Everyone else… Get your copy of ‘Remade’ today to join me and the rest of the Novotnier army!

A fun, explorative, and otherworldly adventure, Remade provides a fun read with grit, tension, and discovery. With a wide cast of diverse characters, Aliya Rathburn finds herself amidst feelings of uncertainty and dread, trying to find her place in this new world she’s been forced into. The book offers easy transitions from setting to setting and the pacing is laid out in a smooth, easy-to-follow approach. Novotny’s debut novel introduces readers to fun new planets, creatures, friends, and foes, as well as a new galactic political system that I hope to see more of as the series progresses. While this story was layered with the potential to reach new depths and complexities with new installments in the series, I was left craving a little more subtlety and nuance in Novotny’s very thorough and detailed writing style that at times came off as mechanical and overly-calculated in her descriptions of events and emotions. Novotny has laid the groundwork for promising character development and story progression, leaving the end of the series’ debut full of possibilities and questions to keep readers begging for more while tying just enough loose ends to keep them satisfied until they embark on the next installment of the Remade journey.

Why do I love this book so much? Characters! Oh the characters in this novel. Aliya Rathburn is one of the most realistic, down-to-earth protagonists I have ever read. Written from her perspective, the reader is able to know her thoughts and feelings throughout the entire novel. This can sometimes be a negative when the author uses too much emotion and not enough plot development, but Novotny doesn’t have this problem! Aliya reacts to her situations in the most vulnerable, honest way. She is nervous and afraid when she is forced to experience a new life. She is excited and joyful when her friends succeed, and she is fully transparent when faced with an attractive male. If our male lead is attractive, why beat around the bush at the beginning? Aliya certainly doesn’t! ON THAT NOTE. I am so incredibly happy that Novotny didn’t make her male lead a stony male! I am so tired of the guy that is super tough and commanding and just wants to protect people. Captain Caspian, while being tough and protective, also shows a ton of emotion and is simply human

Novotny also blew me away with the overall world-building. She managed to make a universe that is so beyond ours seem practical and possible. Of course an inter-galactic military would have different branches and a designed Special Ops team. I never found myself confused by her universe or having to go back and figure out what I missed. While it was all different, it all made sense! Danielle captures an entirely different way of living and brings it down so the reader can comprehend and put themselves into the story. Yeah, they are in outer space, yeah they speak other languages, but they are still living beings. They have emotions like happiness and jealousy and fear. They interact with each other the way you may interact with a family member or a coworker. They strive for greatness and are upset when they don’t achieve their goals.

My main takeaway from this novel is don’t be afraid of who you are. Aliya spends so much of this book worrying about what other people think. Who doesn’t? She puts all her value in making sure people approve of her and minimizing risk that she never tries to reach her capacity. Only once she accepts who she has become does she realize how much of an impact she can have on those she cares about and the society she lives in. Maybe I identify with Aliya a little too much, but I couldn’t help feeling her pain. She didn’t want to hurt her friends and certainly didn’t want to be the best if it meant other people wouldn’t like her. She was capable of so much greatness from the beginning, but she hid it. Novotny had me reflecting on my own life and what areas I may be holding back in simply because I don’t want people to think poorly of me. She got me thinking, what greatness lies out there if we let ourselves try?

Overall, I completely adored this book. Between the realistic characters and the captivating plotline, I couldn’t put it down! I gave it a solid 5 stars. Danielle Novotny has a true gift for writing and I am very excited to see her career progress! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes authors such as Veronica Roth, Susanne Collins, or Cassandra Clare. It has a great sci-fi feel while also being realistic, and at times, romantic in all the best ways! While Danielle is still early in her career, I fully anticipate her to be among the greats in no time!

This Sci-Fi / YA novel is well-paced and an excellent introduction to the world that Danielle Novotny is giving us in this series.

To start, I love the way this book began. Novotny uses the first chapter to catapult us right into the action. We meet our main character and she is immediately met with her fate. After this, the pace keeps steady throughout the story. It’s easy to follow and although I don’t prefer first-person narrative, the author did very well with the style.

The way Novotny highlighted each setting was great. I could absolutely see where I was in every scene. There was a good mix of newly created worlds, aliens, and items as well as old, earthly concepts.

Aliya (the main character) is full of self-doubt as she goes through her transition. Being confused, bullied, and punished for her gifts makes it hard for her to accept them. I do love my tough heroines and Aliya is a bit more gentle for someone who has the powers of a titan, so it took me a while to warm to her. Her hesitation and her doubt was totally valid, but I really wanted her to stand up for herself more often.

As things went on, I then wanted her to see how special she was. This fact was proven to her multiple times but her own self-doubt overpowered what she really knew to be the truth. There was some back and forth with her feeling confident and then letting others deflate her again. She was a complex character, well written, who really had to work through her esteem issues and find her personal self-worth.

The other characters fit a tidy cast. The leader, the pilot, the muscle, the tech guy(s): all necessary to run the crew! My favorite character was Captain Caspian, hands down. I loved how he believed in Aliya despite her inability to believe in herself at times. He was a good person also, despite his own demons. I would have loved his back story to be fleshed out a little more but I know this is a series so I look forward to how everything blooms!

Also! I don’t think this is a spoiler but I thought I would mention, there is a pronunciation guide in the back of the book! Super cool! I would suggest checking it out before you start reading.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. It put me square in the sci-fi genre in a way I like, the characters were well done and the story had an action-packed plot.

First of all, thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of the book ♥ Now, to the (spoiler-free) review.
My overall opinion of this book is that it is fine. There were things that I liked and things I disliked, and I somewhat enjoyed my time reading this.

What I liked:
It's funny in some parts, tense and thrilling in others.
It isn't overly focused in the romance and I liked that it kind of deviates from were you expect it to go.
Although the writting style might need some polishing, it made the book very quick to read.
There were some interesting characters.
Except for a bit at the beginning, I found the pace to be quite nice and well-balanced.

What I disliked:
Even if it is not exactly predictable, I wasn't really surprised by most of the plot.
Sometimes I felt like the main character was the smartest (and I quite enjoyed her remarks when it was about something I hadn't noticed myself), other times I felt like she was very oblivious.
I didn't connect with the main character's struggles, either because they became very repetitive for me (and sometimes quite confusing) or because I wasn't given enough background to truly care (like her missing her family when they were barely mentioned).

Maybe my lack of enthusiasm for the book is due to me slowly leaving behind the YA genre, because I'm sure 14 year old me would have liked this a lot more.

A great story and introduction to a series I would keep my eye on! Danielle Novotny’s debut book Remade had me on the edge of my seat in worry and laughing and cheering all the way. I would highly recommend it.
The first couple chapters set up an intriguing story of a young woman who must undergo a huge life change and adapt to a plethora of new experiences. Remade continues through the rest of the book presenting struggles and difficult decisions the main character must overcome and the Author Danielle Novotny does a wonderful job of detailing Aliya’s (the main character) decision making and thought process. Remade is a true first-person narrative with a wonderful story. I encourage you to read it for yourself to discover not only a new world but to experience a journey into a very creative Sci-fi take on a life being uprooted.
Something to look out for in this book and I think a huge reason many will have an interest in this book is its beautiful cover design and chapter heading throughout the book. Some notes: Language- very clean, Action scenes which are spectacular, romance but nothing cheesy or graphic or anything that would make you blush reading this in public.

The synopsis to this novel promised an interesting story but, unfortunately, I was disappointed. The story I read was predictable with no surprises and, as I read the novel, I kept hoping for something new and original. The story read, instead, like an episode of Star Trek which, although I enjoyed as a teen, as an adult I find unoriginal and predictable.

The story of Remade was okay and so was the writing. Many times I wished Novotny would show me the story was instead of telling me what the character was feeling. I wanted to decipher for myself what Aliya’s emotions were, instead of being told; I wanted to get the sense of what she was thinking and not read an entire paragraph on her thought processes. Novotny is a debut author and I am sure that, with time, her writing style may evolve. But for now, the words within the pages did not grab my attention and keep it for long periods of time.

¡¡RESEÑA EN ESPAÑOL MÁS ABAJO!!

I don’t usually read or like science-fiction, just because there are certain terms and stuff that I don’t comprehend and it usually makes them boring.

Nonetheless, I decided to give ‘Remade’ an opportunity, and it absolutely exceeded my expectations! I loved it!

I can count with one hand the science-fiction books I’ve read in English, and I must admit that I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to understand. But the opposite happened!

If I hadn’t been with so many exams at the moment, I would’ve read it in 1 day, really, it’s absolutely addicting and once you start, you cannot stop.

There’s action, science-fiction elements, discrimination, fights, friendship and a lil bit of romance. All of these elements makes this a wonderful story, full of suspense and adrenaline - not only for the characters, but for the readers, too, he.

I loved everything, but I must highlight the plot’s originality as well as the female power that grows through the story’s development.

I got exasperated with some of Aliya’s thoughts and decisiones. There were momentos where I wanted to shout a lotta things to her, but her growth throughout the 354 pages of Remade was really something. It reminded me of The selection’s America Singer.

Even the characters’ names were very particular and original, not common ones who’re literally in every single book. And for those of you who enjoy a good names’ pronunciation, in the last few pages there’s a guide with some places and characters’ names with their correct pronunciation.

Another fan to the #TeamCaspianForever club!

And that ending… I’m speechless! There’s many unfinished business that I hope are resolved and we get an answer for in the trilogy’s second part. I hope I can read it, I’m sure it won’t disappoint me!

¡Me encantó!

I enjoyed this story. It took me a while to finish since I'm a very slow reader, but my speed shouldn't take away from Aliya (Danielle's) and the narrator's ability to illustrate the story, characters, and environments.

This book is for everyone.

From a first-person perspective, it tells the story of an underdog named Aliya who starts off as an underdog that you'll find yourself shouting, 'DO IT ALREADY' with regards to her lack of courage to stand up for herself. Aliya is someone who is unsure of herself, and it shows frequently (when needed) in the story. There's certainly a high payoff for when she finally does crawl out of her slump.

"I was faster than him. I was always faster than him." -Aliya after an extremely triumphant moment and my favorite scene in the story. I always love seeing an underdog crawl their way up.

I gave this book 4/5 stars just for two reasons: There were seldom typos here and there. This only happened a few times, but I felt a little disenchanted when Aliya would speak of her newfound abilities in a bragging matter. It's just a little personal pet peeve of mine.

Regardless, I'm thrilled to know that there are more books to delve into! Readers who have read her second book have cried out things like 'You can't end it like this!' to the author and much more.

If readers are saying things like that, then surely there's more to expect from her burgeoning talents.

Here's to a growing author and series.

4.5/5 🚀

Wow. I don’t even know where to start. It’s brilliant. It’s absolutely brilliant! This book grabbed a hold of me from the very beginning and it didn’t let go until I had read the last page. There is not a dull moment in the entire book! I was invested in the characters and the story from chapter one – I couldn’t wait until I could sit down and continue reading and when I was reading I didn’t want to put it down. The world – or rather the whole galaxy – that Novotny has created is amazing and the characters are relatable, loveable, and very intriguing. The cleverly places hints about the characters’ backstories make you want to read it all in one sitting to find out what they mean. This is a must-read for anyone who likes sci-fi! I can’t wait to read the next book!

READ THIS BOOK! This was such a fun, fast-paced Sci-Fi tale with a kickass lead female character. I loved how Ms. Novotny kept the story going... there was truly no lag. It sucked you in on an adventure, and kept my attention throughout. I devoured the first book and can't wait to jump into the next tale. If you're up for a super-soldier fighting aliens type of story (who isn't!?) then you have to check this book out!!! (The cover art and interior formatting was beautiful too... it would make a great gift for teens and adults!)

“This might not have been the life you originally dreamed of, but it's still one where you can make an impact and find your own happiness.”

As a fan of science-fiction and the love of being immersed in new worlds, I can truly say that reading this debut novel of Danielle’s was truly a pleasure.

The book centers around Aliya Rathburn who is literally thrown into a nightmare as she awakens from a horrifying car accident to find that she is on an entirely different planet- Callais. Not only is she faced with this dilemma, (insert panic and fear) she is informed that she was at the very door of death and was “modified” in order to save her life (there’s a whole Frankenstein meets Nebula feel going on here). As if that weren’t even to handle… yeah, she’s not allowed to go back home to Earth (aka Terra). Her only option is to join the Protective Forces and become a soldier, which she’s not sure she even wants nor knows how to be, and they all think she’s a “freak”. After a few months of hiding her unique abilities out of fear and shame (after all she’s not sure what they plan to do with her in the first place), she is chosen by handsome and reserved Captain Caspian (don’t you just love how his name rolls off your tongue?) for the Nova squad. She’s hesitant and unsure at first why Caspian has chosen her for the squad but soon comes to see that there’s more to Caspian than meets the eye… as well as some chemistry between the two of them ;-) She starts to feel a sense of belonging and acceptance as Nova becomes her family (especially seeing as she’s never allowed to see her own ever again.) A scouting mission goes horrible awry on Planet Charra and she must make the quick decision to save her crew, and her captain, but also gives away her “bad-a$$” moves in the process. She comes face to face with a new and frightening enemy, the Kretch, who supposedly were killed out a century ago. This newfound knowledge takes them to yet another new and exotic planet, Vanthurium, where they must protect the Lord and Lady there. The battle scenes are so vivid and thrilling as Aliya must once again help protect her crew and save the day.

This book was very well written. Each character and place was very descriptive. It was high-paced, exciting, and heart-pounding as Danielle took the reader on a journey to new worlds with a dynamic and lovable crew that would make the Guardians of the Galaxy proud. I’m eager to see what adventures lay in store for Nova next :-)

Nice introduction to fascinating world and characters

From the very first chapter, Novotny pulls you into the world that Aliya finds herself in without any unnecessary build-up. Just boom, things are happening! I immediately empathized with her and had very strong (read negative) feelings for the doctor that rebuilt her and his intentions hinted at throughout the first part of the book.

As I continued following Aliya through her adjustment to a new life in a new galaxy, I enjoyed learning the differences between our galaxy and this new one: languages, races, etc. One thing I would have liked see more detailed descriptions of the characters. Some of them were hard for me to really picture in my mind and others I only knew by their specific and unique feature, such as bright blue eyes or a metal arm.

The middle and end (especially) had a lot of action that was super fun to read! I also loved learning about the the enemies and their connection to the rest of her peers. I did feel that the very ending was a bit rushed, but it seems to be set up for a sequel, which I would be very excited about if there is to be one.

Overall, Remade is an enjoyable sci-fi tale with a fish out of water sort of feel. I highly recommend it and look forward to more from this author.

Remade was a fabulous read. It's a book that leaves me wanting more and with questions that I hope are answered in the next books to come. I felt that I could really get behind Aliya and the rest of the Nova squad. I enjoyed the story line, as well as slowly adjusting to Aliya's new abilities alongside her. I'm glad to know this is a trilogy as, excitedly, there are definitely new relationships and new planets to explore, and I'm excited to get my hands on book#2!

Action-packed scifi!

This action -packed scifi has an awesome heroine who battles her way through her experiences, mentally and physically. Waking up completely remade after a brutal car accident, Aliya isn't given a choice to go back to her old life, and doesn't seem to have a place in the galaxy, but she is determined to find her way. Excellent character development, good world-building, and a bit of clean romance make this a fun read.
