Yellowstone is controlled by nature. Its beauty is breathless and tranquil. Crystal clear streams flow. Buffalo roam freely. It's what's happening beneath that will bring HELLFIRE!
The Yellowstone Series, a new disaster thriller from critically acclaimed author, Bobby Akart, takes the reader on a thrill ride as a cataclysmic event of extinction level proportions ticks away like a time bomb, awaiting its moment. Millions of people visit the Yellowstone National Park every year blissfully unaware they are on top of the greatest killer man has ever known - the Yellowstone Supervolcano.
Beneath this primal allure simmers a catastrophic threat. A caldera the size of Mount Everest, created hundreds of thousand of years ago, which holds back super-heated magma, rising and falling, looking for release.
Scientists agree, the eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano is long overdue. Events have been set into motion that lit the fuse of the greatest disaster mankind has ever known.
Is it going to happen? Yes.
Do we know when? Anytime, or not within our lifetime, hopefully.
But if it does ... The eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano will be more than a spectacle to grab our attention. It will be the end of the world as we know it.
ABOUT THE YELLOWSTONE SERIES
Volcanoes are the Earth's way of letting off steam. While most people look at volcanic eruptions as natural disasters, the fact of the matter is, without them, the Earth would explode. Deep beneath the surface of the planet, excess heat builds up, finding a way to vent. Like an overcrowded bus on a hot summer day, the overheated magma stews in its own madness, allowing pent-up frustrations to boil over, until it releases its fury - its HELLFIRE - upon the world above.
Yellowstone is the most potentially explosive, violent, deadly, active volcano on our planet and scientists agree, a catastrophic eruption is inevitable. Yellowstone is extraordinary in its potential and is quite simply, Earth's greatest killer. You've been warned.

Edit 11/25/18: I change my review to one star. This author is a jerk.
Title: Yellowstone: Hellfire
Author: Bobby Akart
Publication Date: Aug 2018
Genre: Post-apocalyptic
Score: 3/5
A journeyman effort in post-apocalyptic fiction. There weren’t any grammatical errors. The author is a… libertarian? Maybe a right-winger? There is a glowing portrayal of Trump included. It made me laugh. I guess the joke’s on me though because I finished the book (and purchased it.) The libertarian elements are noticeable but not over the top.
It’s about Yellowstone erupting. There’s a Cassandra scientist and the rugged man who carves a place out in his heart for her. It appears to be decently researched with regards to supervolcanos.
I would give this a solid 2.5/5. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the very small subgenre of supervolcano post-apocalyptic fiction.
This book is a 65% rip off of the movie Dante's Peak, with a few sprinklings of Trump Love and trying to legitimize conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and The Drudge Report. What a waste of a good Sunday afternoon.
I wasn't a fan of the simplistic writing style when I started this book, recommended to me by a colleague who heard that I was going to Yellowstone for a family vacation. People were always "laughing uncomfortably" at unusual times, and one of the protagonists made several trips to West Yellowstone for beer, to the point that I, a committed beer-drinker, even began to wonder why he didn't just buy more at one time - especially considering how long of a drive it is from Sentinel Creek out to the West Entrance. I understand that there is literary license in geography, but when writing about a place visited by more than four million people each year, describing driving between iconic park locations like Old Faithful, Norris and Grant Village is going to be noticed - because we sure remember that part of the trip.
The science, yeah, I knew that going in this was going to be a disaster novel with a sprinkling of science thrown in, and I'm okay with that. The geology was fairly well researched, and the illustrations were a great surprise. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the map of the earthquake swarm, which provided both legitimacy and a reference to locations mentioned. One would have thought that this disaster story would have played out naturally, but, you'd be wrong, and that's where the spoilers begin.
*Spoilers*
The supervolcano, geologically described as being well past its due date, is ultimately triggered by a government in search of green energy - and that's the beginning of the introduction to the author's unexpected political bias. In retrospect, I presume that this book was written to piggyback off of the fears of conservative, anti-government preppers, but that seems like such a small niche when clearly (from the other reviews) it's an intriguing story for all sorts of people. Stranger yet when Akart's protagonists mock preppers who relocate to Wyoming for their SHTF strongholds in the shadow of earth's most dangerous looming disaster.
It's up to the President, a successful businessman who is now on his sixth year in office, to smack down the lead scientist on a conference call and make the tough decisions on a problem that was created by a prior administration and spiraled out of control into his lap. It's no secret who the model for this unnamed character was! These obvious references to today's politics served to pull me out of the fantasy I was looking for in the novel. They were jarring, obvious, distracting and entirely unnecessary.
The worst, the last straw, the moment when I questioned even finishing the book, was when Akart chose to legitimise by name Infowars and ZeroHedge as the only websites (alongside Drudge Report) willing to publicise the truth about what was going on in the Yellowstone caldera. This is when Akart lost all credibility with me, when I decided I wouldn't be finishing the trilogy. When I decided this is an author in serious need of an editor. I was 90% finished with the story and I pressed on to the bizarre end, but by then it was only a formality. I was completely detached from the world of Yellowstone: Hellfire, an otherwise adequate if not simplistic but promising disaster trilogy, which I can only guess will continue on in books two and three with lizard people attempting to rise up from the DC swamp to usurp the presidency during this time of crisis only to be defeated by our glorious leader astride a cybernetic eagle and his army of loyal followers carrying black and white versions of the American flag, while unprepared liberals either turn to violence to survive or are utterly defenseless against the ravaging hoards of illegals who have been lying in wait for just this moment. I fully expect to see the line"As the first volcanic ash fell on Chicago like snowflakes, the first snowflakes fell as well, massacred by MS-13 in a gun-free avocado toast bar."
Well, I guess that's it. To summarize: it was an interesting story in a fabulous location utterly ruined by the author's unusually simplistic writing style and insistence on inserting fringe right-wing politics into what could have been a thriller for all. Akart shows great creativity but needs an editor with a scalpel.

Three geologists specializing in volcanology from NASA are led by Dr. Ashby Donovan arrive at Yellowstone National Park to check out recent anomalies that might be precursors to the Yellowstone supervolcano erupting.
They are helped by Jake Wheeler, long-time National Park Service ranger, and by a BBC newswoman and her photographer.
I kept imagining this on a movie screen (lots of similarities to DANTE'S PEAK) and that's not a bad thing.
There were great characters and lots of scary info about the Yellowstone supervolcano.
I'm now off to read book two in the series YELLOWSTONE INFERNO.
Oh this was so bad. Bogus “geology” and the supposed super-smart characters act like children. After a quake and landslide they take silly-face selfies?? The ranger doesn’t run to help the rescuers? Instead they drink beer and roast hotdogs. And how is this group of “intellectuals” the only ones in the world who are investigating Yellowstone earthquakes? Skip this.

Filled with plenty of action, conflict, science, amongst one of the more beautiful spots in North America, Yellowstone Hellfire starts the series off with a "bang": pun intended.
Summary: Volcanologist Dr. Ashby Donovan and her two assistants, Rita and Dusty, are big into volcanoes and geology. However, Donovan has butted heads in the past with other scientists in terms of predicting eruptions. This turns into a conflict with the head of the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory, when a project that is supposed to tap into geothermal energy, by injecting water underneath the Yellowstone caldera, "think fracking" starts to cause tremors and other ominous signs in and around the park. One of the park rangers, Jake, two weeks removed from fighting a wildfire in Yellowstone, believes Donovan as he has witnessed some strange behaviors, as well as possible lave coming from the ground while fighting the fire.
So politics and selfish ambitions get in the way of safety, with Donovan trying to shut down the project before its too late.
Likes: Fast paced, reminds me of volcanologists acting like storm chasers, trying to get a glimpse of the actual monster volcano "storm". Since I've visited Yellowstone a couple of times, am somewhat familiar with the scenery, so this helped. Also reminded me of the movie Dante's Peak somewhat.
Dislikes: The dialogue at times is somewhat basic, not much structure to a lot of characters thinking, even though some of the science behind the story was good. Of course, the not so sophisticated writing made it a quicker read.
Wow Bobby Akart has done it again!! I just read the actual book and also just bought it for my kindle. The attention to detail in the storytelling is amazing , characters are strong and we'll developed to make this series an A+! Do yourself a favor start reading this now
UnIAn Extinction Level Event is building in the Yellowstone Caldera. Warnings were dismissed and any way of stopping a Super Volcanic Eruption is much too late!
The Master of Apocalyptic Disaster, author Bobby Akart, has glanced into his crystal ball and delivered a terrifying glimpse into the dark side of the beautiful Yellowstone park area. It's been six hundred thousand years since the last eruption of the Yellowstone Super Volcano, and it's overdue for a repeat performance.
Ranger Jake Wheeler was assisting fire fighters with a fire in Yellowstone Park. The fire overwhelmed them and Jake found himself surrounded by blazes. An orange glow, visible through the trees, fire and smoke drew Jake's eye and like a moth to a flame, he was compelled to get a closer look. At about 60 feet, he could get no closer to the pulsating blob dimming then glowing bright like a living being. "It can't be!" Jake thought, "but it sure looks like lava!" Lava hadn't been seen in Yellowstone since the Park was founded.
Dr. Ashby Donovan and her team, Dusty Holder and Rita Charles - volcanology students who, like Ashby, were employed by NASA studying volcanoes. After meeting Ashby and team, Jake told her about what he saw in the fire. She was extremely excited and planning to follow Jake there the next day. Rick Younger had replaced Dr. Don Peake as head scientist at the Park. Dr. Peake had not been a fan of Project Hydra - Younger's plan to drill into the caldera and inject water into the hot lava, capturing the steam to create geothermal energy. Younger drilled too deep and took shortcuts to produce energy, and now the Yellowstone Super Volcano was reading to blow!
Very exciting beginning to an epic new series, with the kind of characters I've come to expect and admire from Bobby Akart. I'm already peeking around pages trying to get a glimpse of how the good guys are going to find out what the arch villain has planned. Excellent storyline for a great read!
An exciting start to a new series! Everyone is familiar with erupting volcanoes over the years. What if those were just minor spurts, even with all the damage they have caused? But what if there was a volcano many, many times larger than any of them? The volcano under Yellowstone is that big. How to keep it from possibly erupting and creating a catastrophic event, is a matter for debate. Water injection is the politically correct way to go and Project Hydro is the program being funded. Dr. Ashby Donovan doesn't care about the funding, but she knows water injection would not be safe. She has first hand knowledge of volcano eruptions. Her team includes Dusty Holder and Rita Charles. Ella Hewitt is a reporter from Great Britain. Jake Wheeler is a ranger at Yellowstone, where strange things are happening. When Dr. Donovan and her team get summarily kicked out, she and Jake form an allience. Ella is one of those rare reporters that is actually interested in the truth and she is willing to work with Jake and Ashby to get it. Now every story has at least one bad guy. Geologist Rick Younger is Scientist-in-Charge of Project Hydro and they have been drilling deeper than he agreed to. Needless to say, Ashby is right. With earthquakes, landslides and tsunamis, there is plenty of action. The heart pounding end to Book# 1 will have you eagerly anticipating Book#2! Although this is a work of fiction, there is a lot of factual information about volcanoes. A lot of research must have gone in to this series.
It is always exciting when Bobby Akart begins a new series, I always look forward to seeing what catastrophe will affect the world next. This time we are taken on a journey to Yellowstone, where the Yellowstone supervolcano was about to raise its angry head and unleash a hell on Earth that could possibly be the end of mankind. As in true Akart tradition, this story begins with a bang and an introduction of the main players of the story who will undoubtedly become good friends to us as the storyline progresses. Mr. Akart does extensive research with all of his stories and it definitely shows with this book. Though I did know a little about volcanoes, I am now getting a more in depth and interesting lesson on just what makes them a ticking timebomb. With that said, this story has scared the crap out of me! Just knowing that this in fact can and will happen some day is enough to make you lose sleep! Thank you Bobby Akart for once again writing an informative and thrilling story that will be on my mind for a long time. I will now be watching the news for all info that pertains to Yellowstone and watch for signs of a possible eruption. Due to your survival ideas in the book, I at least have an idea of what to do and what is needed if that does happen. This is definitely a story that you do not want to miss out on! I can’t wait for the next one in the series to be released!
This is one of the best books like this I have read. The basic group is Younger, a greedy, inflated importance businessman who wants to do drilling in Yellowstone. There's Ella (a BBC reporter), Jake (a park ranger/cop), Flo (a waitress) and the scientific group of Ashby, Dusty and Rita who are there to study the caldera and see if things are acting up.
Younger wants to keep the business going and will even kick out Ashby, the scientist, because she thinks the drilling could lead to an eruption of the caldera.
The strength of the book I think lies in how Ashby goes about trying to obtain all the evidence of something going wrong that she can. She works with Jake who knows the area extremely well. Jake checks with other rangers to find out if they have seen anything unusual happening and gradually the entire group puts together scientific data and on-site observations to build a solid case that something is going majorly wrong.
That whole part is logical and realistic. Ashby is finally able to convince the President of the United States that something may be happening soon. The descriptions of the studying and what ends up happening is also done really well.
A grossly interesting study in igneous geology and it's aftermath, the forecast eruption of Yellowstone Supervolcano as a result of earth's and Yellowstone's abuse. This, the first book of the series, is the pre-eruption up to the beginnings of the actual eruption. For Ashby, the volcanic scientist, it is her survival of her second major eruption. Her first of as a child during which she lost her parents. The helicopter has yet to crash or make it to safety. Her students and the ranger are on board with her. The Yellowstone Supervolcano is a crater averaging 45 miles wide and considered to be an active volcano past due for eruption. The earlier three ended with life restarting again on earth due chAnges in climate, et al. SO this story is a study.of a potential future of the planet we live on and a need for prayer to continue letting Yellowstone sleep.
Bobby Akart has another great achievement with The Yellowstone Series. I just read Yellowstone: Hellfire: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller (The Yellowstone Series Book 1) by Bobby Akart, and could barely put it down to eat. What a great story and series! I haven't found anything by Bobby Akart that I didn't completely enjoy and this is no exception. As usual, great characters, great story line and this one is even more perceptive in that it mirrors the possible chaos created by Yellowstone Park's own volcanic instability. Add in Corporate greed coupled with Congressional culpability and you have the ingredients for a disaster of titanic proportions. I can only hope this is not truly prophetic, as the science behind the story is pretty well documented. I highly recommend this series.
Bobby Akart, I've read all your books, but this one left me with my heart pounding, holding my breath, and butt-cheeks clinched. That hasn't happened in a long long time and I've read probably 75% of all the PA books on Amazon. Wow is almost all I can say. I can say well-written, well researched, exciting, and even though you know Yellowstone is going to blow the suspense is well crafted. I was drawn into the characters, dreading which one would die before the book's end. This is a winner! Akart readers, enjoy! If you aren't yet an Akart reader, welcome to his fan club, you won't be disappointed!
The best, most interesting & compelling thriller I've ever read. Deserves more stars!
I rarely write book reviews -- or give 5-star book ratings -- but Mr. Akart is a truly exceptional writer who's obviously done the research to make this one of the most intelligent, compelling and and engaging thrillers I've ever read. His well-developed characters, especially his female characters, are smart, strong & realistic (no silly ciphers here) and the book's expert plot, pacing and strong visual images make this an intensely compelling, "can't-put-it-down" adventure. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment as soon as I finish this review.
To start with this review, I am a Bobby Akart fan. I have read ALL of his books. Just have to say, this one is going to be a good series. Probably his best. It is one of those books where the characters grab you in from the beginning and won't let you go .... they are there with you giving you a grand adventure. I felt like I was with them as one of the characters (not the red shirt guys of Star Trek). I read the book in one sitting thinking this is coming out like the 'real' news. The only thing I accomplished was getting a good book read.
Wow! My first book by Akart, but not my last. Riveting!!
This is the first book that I have read by Bobby Akart, but it definitely will not be my last! Yellowstone: Hellfire is a well written fictional account about events that could very easily occur in the future. I have been to Yellowstone a couple of times. It was interesting reading about what could happen if... The science in this book has been well researched, and that added to my enjoyment of the book. I cannot wait to continuing this series by Bobby Smart and checking out other books he has written as well.
This is an exciting mix of science and fear of extinction. Combine that with a fierce and feisty female scientist specializing in volcanos, along with her trusted and often humorous research team. Mix in a brave park ranger with a lot of skills and you are in for one exciting ride. The potential forthcoming disaster, with all the volcanic activity under Yellowstone ,kept me rapidly turning pages. The truth is terrifying and it is well played out in this fast paced tale.
Reading this book was a real state-owned because the threat of an eruption is already here. Just like in real life the bureaucrats go around messing things up and then disappear when the blame is put on them. I have visited Yellowstone National Park about 50 years ago and I still remember the places mentioned in the book. When that supervolcano erupts there probably won't be much left of the western United States. Hopefully it won't happen until I have left the planet!!
I loved Yellowstone Hellfire it was a fast paced action packed page turner that I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the characters that were so believable and although it would be a fair old journey from Scotland I don’t think I want to go to Yellowstone there are a fair few books about said place out there lol. The only fault I have with this book is the ending, I dislike intensely when the last sentence is cut off midflow. Other than that I’m downloading Inferno right now. It’s a cracking read and I would recommend it to anyone.
I stayed up late to finish this in one reading. I appreciate the research and the science that went into this. To me, this is what true science fiction is. You get the science along with a great story based around it. The characters are very good. They are not perfect but they are like people you might know. Then the politics that are worked in. A great reflection of what many kids deal with in our jobs. Looking forward to the next book.
Really enjoyed this book. Looking forward to the next in the series. I love Bobby Akart's writing style. He always makes you think about how you would survive a major catastrophe. Have to admit I have never considered a volcano as being a major threat to our existence. I always enjoy the characters Mr. Akart writes. This book has plenty of action and suspense. Thanks for another great read.
Akart keeps his characters from being overshadowed by the end of the world-as-we-know-it, massive eruption you know is coming. Quite a feat. A bono fide page-turner.
This is a very good science e fiction novel with easy to understand background information on volcanoes as well as earthquakes. The characters are easily like able, and the plot is more than believable. Looking forward to second book.
My review concerns the entire Yellowstone series, and halfway through this book is as far as I'm going. I give this series 2 stars, because the first book isn't horrible. The science saves it, sort of.
First, Akart writes some of the worst dialog I've ever read. It's stilted. It's awkward. It doesn't add to the tory. For the most part, it can be skipped. Of course, it reflects the characters, who are two dimensional. Really, after the 1st book in the series, they can be skipped, too.
Then comes the worst part: Akart's political beliefs and his willingness to interject them into a storyline that doesn't need them. I don't care if Arkart believes "there are more takers than makers" and that America will fall apart because "people want the government to do everything for them." It doesn't add to the story. The first book doesn't bring political issues into the story. In the second book, Akart's political beliefs start creeping in. In the third book, Arkart's AM radio political philosophy becomes overwhelming and disgusting.
I know these books have a lot of 4 and 5-star reviews. I'm not sure what that is about. Quit at the first book. It's all you'll need.

Loads of fun, but a bit silly. If you're running around telling people Yellowstone's going to explode and the world will end when it does, why hang around to watch it? Surely your expertise could be better utilized elsewhere, especially if you're the only one that the President believes?
At least the main "hero" isn't a Navy Seal or a hardcore prepper- there was a refreshing lack of weapons and paranoia and rape. I have a feeling that there's a major logic gap coming up- after so much time devoted to the truth that a Supervolcano could end life for almost everyone, I have a feeling that (most) of the main characters will survive.
I borrowed this on Amazon Prime reading. I’ve considered it for a while and when it was offered on Prime, I grabbed it. I’ve lived in Idaho and Wyoming and visited Yellowstone many, many times. Most beautiful place on Earth. But this book makes me look at it in a different way. I had heard about the “ super volcano “ under it. An ELE in the making. Yikes! But, doesn’t stop one from going. This book is well written, edited beautifully. Characters are well developed. This book will keep you up late reading. I know it did me. I bought the next book in the series. It’s that good!!
HOLY SCHMOLY! The start of the series is so gripping. Action packed and with something new popping up at every turn. I can't believe how realistically the story is portrayed. As a frequent visitor to Yellowstone, I enjoy the constant changes in the variety of wildlife and color during the different seasons. Yet, I have never really thought about what lies beneath the surface. This series while entertaining, is also informative. I highly recommend this series to all!
All of his books are AMAZING. This was no exception. I loved this book!! This is a must read. In fact, find every book he’s written and get to work. Thank you for these amazing stories. I think it’s time that I start stocking up on survivalist material because all of these stories are full of ever present threats to us all... some you may not regularly consider but are well worth the thought.
