This book challenges the thought that “teaching” begins only after certification and college graduation. Instead, it describes how students in teacher preparation programs have value to offer their future colleagues, even as they are learning to be teachers! This book provides positive examples, helpful tools, and plenty of encouragement for preservice teachers to learn, to dream, and to do.
I teach Technology in Education to pre-service teachers and I first heard of EduMagic at the ISTE conference in Philadelphia. The book speaks to pre-service teachers in language that is highly relatable and encourages them to see themselves as educators with gifts to share even while working on their teacher certification. I was particularly interested in the chapter on online presence and was thankful when the author agreed to speak to my students on this topic through Zoom. I recommend this book to aspiring teachers and those who are helping them meet their goals.
Going by the title, you might think the audience for this book is limited to pre-service teachers. If so, you would be way off.
If you are a teacher or an administrator, I assure you that there’s plenty to consider, reflect on, and apply whether that be in your own practice or in concert with others.
Read this book and add some edumagic to your life.
I would recommend Edumagic to every pre-service teacher, student teacher, and educator! Sam Fecich is an excellent author, who grabbed my attention from the first sentence of the book. I have struggled with reading when I was younger because it took me a while to comprehend the author's purpose. As I read this book relaxing on a raft in my pool, I was able to read Edumagic with ease. Fecich writes with a conversational style that is appealing for all readers. I could read this book over and over again! Fecich writes about the experiences of different pre-service teachers and how they are taking a lead in their own education. One of my favorite chapters was about how to make a PLN (Professional Learning Network). Fecich's book has inspired me to find a new leading edge in my education. I also reccomend following Sam Fecich on all her social media accounts as well as her blog. This author is very active with her audience/readers! She asks for feedback on instagram, invites guest speakers on her podcasts, and speaks from her heart about her passion for education! Buy Edumagic and her new book Edumagic: Shine On on Amazon!
I honestly didn't think this would help me very much because I read this a month before graduating and finishing my student teaching but I was completely wrong. It had some great ideas and helpful tips. It also keeps emphasizing again and again that even though you are a pre-service teacher, you are still an educator and a professional and your input and feedback have a valuable place at school and in the educational community. This was great to hear and see examples about. A great read.
Great tech ideas for teaching future teachers (and a decent reminder for more seasoned veterans). However, it was a bit redundant at times. The tone, for some reason, grated a little on my nerves, too. Maybe it was all the mixed metaphors or pop culture references. Who knows. I see the potential, especially for those teaching an ed tech class.
Everyone thinking of becoming a teacher needs to read this book. The stories and connections to the reality that is an active, engaging classroom are tucked amid the questions and fears that come with the teaching profession. This is a book I wish I had when I was just starting out.
A MUST read for educators of all levels of experience. EduMagic is written for pre-service teachers, but is a great guide for those already in their career. EduMagic offers an abundance of tools, tips, and tricks for setting yourself apart while becoming an educator of impact.
A quick and easy read with LOTS of great ideas and tools to share. This would be a great resource for preservice teachers to read during a course in their education program.
Read this book the summer before my senior year of student teaching. I was able to truly connect and pull out what I needed from this book to build my learning tool box.
