A fairly standard volume of Hinamatsuri has slice of life adventures with the ensemble cast and even a surprising if silly reveal about the place where all the psychokinetic children come from. But it earns a bonus star for the sheer audacity of the next two major turns in the life of Hitomi Mishima, high school CEO. The other stuff is nice, but Hitomi's sections always shock, amuse, and sadden me the most and keep me coming back for more. They keep writing her into corners, but then just let her burst through the walls.

We love the chapters about Hitomi's suffering. Every time she looks like she's about to be saved, things get even worse! Love that for us (not for her, that's so sad for her, for the readers it's incredible). We're also getting actual plot lore (or whatever this series has for plot) with sci-fi hijinks. I don't know if I care about the plot much but it does provide something new to keep the series going.

Hinamatsuri series is an absolute gem and unlike any other manga/series I’ve ever read. It’s also very different from typical western fiction comedy - hard to pinpoint exactly how though. There are the weird, absurd situations that are created with insane interactions that are only possible in manga. I’m pretty sure I’ll really miss this series once I finish it.

This one made some progress in the end game but I suspect that it won’t be some major story in the last few volumes the way the series seems to handle. It’ll likely continue to stay mostly focused on comedy and won’t get too intense. Let’s see!
