This book had its good points and bad points. I think the bad points are a little more dominant...or maybe just more frustrating. Hard to say because though I didn't mind this book, and enjoyed it to an extent, it also bothered me in a number of ways.
Find Me is a romantic suspense about catching a serial killer small Maine town. One teenage girl is already dead and another missing. But the locals refuse to think any one they knew could have done it. They blame an outsider and some blame a local curse. Which is what brings investigative reporter Sarah Newton to town. Sarah has spent her career debunking legends that supposedly caused crimes and instead finds the real-live culprit. And that's what she intends to do in this case.
Kale Conner is charged with being Sarah's "tour guide"...or rather, keeping her out of trouble. Easier said than done. Sarah manages to piss people off just walking down the street. Doesn't stop him from being attracted to her. As the investigation continues, Kale is forced to confront what Sarah has been saying all along - that someone he knows is responsible for the heinous crimes. And when Sarah's life is on the line, Kale will do anything to save her.
The suspense angle of this book is pretty well done. It's complicated and twisted. There are a lot of suspects to consider. And even though I had a fair idea of the bad guys identity, Webb threw a couple interesting twists in there at the end. The story reminded me some of a Karen Rose book...rather dark and creepy...though Webb's book has a bit more romance. But overall, this aspect of the book kept me interested.
It's everything else that I had some problems with. First off, the heroine isn't exactly likable. Especially in the beginning. Sarah is abrasive, curt, anti-social and rude. For the first few chapters I wondered how I'd make it through the book because she got on my nerves so much. But she did grow on me some. She has a long, dark history that makes her personality understandable. I never got around to totally liking her, but I didn't hate her.
Aside from that, I wasn't satisfied with the status of Sarah's...err...mental state. The girl has some serious, serious problems; mental and emotional. She doesn't eat, she doesn't sleep, she doesn't take her medication, she doesn't call her shrink...and by the time the end of the book rolls around, you don't get he impression any of that had changed. Webb tries to convey that Sarah's outlook on life has changed at the end of the book, but I didn't feel it. To me, Sarah was still a woman standing on the edge of a total meltdown. Sarah's character was just so damaged that a 1-book HEA isn't really logical.
Which made the romance aspect of the book a little flat. I did like Sarah and Kale together. Definitely some good chemistry there and I think he was good for Sarah. But because of all the things with Sarah's character, the HEA ending didn't feel very solid to me. It felt very loose, sort of "okay, I guess we'll give it a try." So that wasn't very satisfying.
And I didn't understand, or like, the last chapter at all. It's a short 2 pages featuring 2 characters (not the H/H) and it leaves you feeling like the story is incomplete. That there is something we don't know. It annoyed the heck out of me after reading it. Unless Webb plans to continue on with another book - and I haven't found any info saying that - then that last scene was totally superfluous and really irritating.
So yeah, this book bounced around between good stuff and bad stuff. The story was well-done, but I couldn't really get behind the characters and the romance. Still, it wasn't a bad book by an stretch. Just a bit frustrating. If you like complicated romantic suspense novels, don't mind damaged heroines, and can handle a somewhat loose ending, then this book might be worth giving a try.
Sarah Newton is an investigative reporter who debunks myths and finds out the truth about crimes. She is not very popular because people don’t like what she finds out, even if it is the truth. She has come to Youngstown, Maine because one girl has been murdered and another is missing. Some of the locals believe it is the result of an old curse.
This book is filled with so many twists and turns I didn’t know where it was going. I’m still not convinced the story is over, you are left with a doubt at the end of the book. This one will keep you on the edge of your seats.
Another Debra Webb, Book That just pulls you in from the very first page to the very last page wanting to find out what happened who done it and why and how many twist there will be to see what has been done to these girls at the chapel things that are unreal when you really think it's one person and then you find out a big twist is coming this book was immensely one that kept me on the edge of my seat not knowing for sure who the killer was.but knowing they were out there cold-blooded the things they did it's one awesome book I started it and finished it in about 3 days amazing book one you want to pick up and check it out Sarah does an awesome job when she comes to town she's not going to give up until she finds the Killer she knows the Killer is a female while the town believes it's a a curse and they just want to sweep it under the rug.... Sarah doesn't give up until she finds the truth... the truth will shock everyone.... absolutely loved this book pick up your copy you'll see what I'm talking about but all of this author's books have been absolutely amazing..... I'm only hoping for another story to go along with this one thank Debra Webb.
4.5 Stars This book kept me riveted until the final chapter. The story centers around Sarah Newton, a journalist who debunk crimes surrounded by supernatural woo woo. This part of the story is why this book only gets 4.5 instead of 5 Stars. As I did experience Sarah debunking anything supernatural. To me Sarah was written as an investigative journalist, and the supernatural aspect was an after thought in the book. Now with that minor warble out of the way. This is one stellar read when it comes to mystery suspense. There are enough secrets and red herrings in the community of Youngstown Maine that kept the story moving. Plus the main character has a very dark past, which added another interesting layer to the book. Plus there is a nice romance that takes place, which didn’t interfere with the taunt suspense. Well worth the money and the time spent reading.
Debra Webb’s publisher has re-released this book with a new title, COME FIND ME. No matter what the title it, the book is filled with suspense and vivid descriptions of murder scenes that will have fans of horror happily waiting for more. Sarah Newton and Kale Conner are the main characters and both are portrayed with a lot of secrets of their own. Sarah is an investigative reporter sent to find out what is really going on when young girls are being kidnapped and murdered, just as what happened twenty years ago. The rural Maine town that she has to go to is eerie and dark, filled with its own secrets from centuries of practicing witchcraft and hiding darkness behind the doors of the current residents. I really liked how fast-paced the story was and how twisted it was so it was difficult to guess the villain. There were so many primary suspects in this entertaining book! I enjoyed getting to know more about this little village in Maine, especially the vivid imagery created by the author. I have lived in Maine and some of the rural areas that we lived in could have easily been this village. The characters all added to the macabre plot that twisted and turned its way to a satisfying and surprising conclusion. If you like dark suspense with romance thrown in, this is definitely the book for you!

I am a big fan of Debra Webbs' books. This was one of my favorites.
Sarah Newton is a paranormal investigator..She is assigned (By her paper The Truth) to investigate cases where the community might think that the murders were done by something supernatural as ghosts, etc. Two girls are missing and the town thinks that a killer of over 25 years ago is back. Kale Conner, one of the residents of the town, has been assigned the task of showing Sarah around and keeping an eye on her. When Sarah comes to a town, she is normally meet with stares and hatred for what she does. She is also the daughter of a convicted serial killer that killed over 8 women!
Sarah has her own way of investigating a case and getting to the truth, but when an FBI profiler enters the case, no one believes Sarah. He tries to discredit her every way he can. But, the sparks are flying between Kale and Sarah. When Kale's sister is the next victim to be kidnapped, everyone is wondering who could be responsible. Is the killer back after 25 years? Is someone making these murders look like the ones from years ago. Now Sarah's life is in danger. Someone has tried to push her off a cliff and is she the next one to be held captive by the serial killer.
This book has been republished and updated as Come Find Me. Sarah Newton is a reporter trying to find the real story behinds crimes. When she heads to Youngstown, Maine after one teen girl's murder and another's abduction, she isn't exactly welcomed with open arms. Her "babysitter", Kale Conner, is tasked with keeping her in check. However they clash immediately over the fact that Sarah says it must be someone from their small town and Kale refuses to believe anyone from anyone from his town is evil. Sarah has heard all the myths and rumors about witches, curses, etc. She's there to prove someone in their midst is a killer. But can she prove it before it's too late for Alicia, the young girl currently missing. I loved this book. Mysteries are my favorite genre and from reading so many, I usually have the story pegged from just a few pages in. This book had so many twists and turns that I never knew what was coming next. Truly Debra Webb at her best. I did receive a copy of this book for an honest review.
Come Find me by Debra Webb *Previously published as FIND ME, this novel has been updated with new additions* In a small town in Main one girl is found dead and another one is missing but no one wants to believe that one of their own could be a cold blooded killer. Sarah Newton is an investigative reporter who specializes in finding the truth, even if people don't want to see it. But can she keep her own dark secrets buried? Kale Conner is Youngstown’s newest councilman, tasked with keeping the high profile Sarah in line but finds himself drawn to the spirited reporter as both are swept into the race to find the missing girl and expose the dark secrets of his neighbors. This book is fast paced and full of surprises as the race to find the answers exposes the darkest sins of a small town.
Thank you Debra Webb for the copy of Come Find Me that I read and reviewed. This book was one of those book a that when you walk away you are are hoping that another book is in the works because this was so good and there is so much more that can be done. With that being said I will say this was an excellent read. Webb kept me guessing until the very end with who the killer was and she also threw in a number of curves that I never saw coming in a million years. I loved Sarah as a character. She was broken enough and not perfect and her past made her perfect to play the part she played in this story. Then Kale the male lead character was her perfect match and I loved them together and that have this book a very hot romance factor to add to the great suspense that it also had going on. Needless to say, Come Find Me gets five out of five stars.
When 2 popular girls are missing in a small town in Maine, Sarah Newton, an investigative reporter is sent to find out the truth. Youngstown's youngest councilman, Kale Connor is assigned to keep her out of trouble. As the search for the truth goes on, Kale is intriqued by the spitfire, Sarah, as they are drawn to the secrets of the townspeople. When one of Kale's family is missing, the assignment gets even more personal. This is a fast paced book, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing until the darkest sins of this small town are exposed.
Was so excited to finally receive a copy of this book and it definitely didn't disappoint Debra Webb definitely knows how to add a Twist at the end of every story this one was no different absolutely loved how I felt like I was walking down the street helping Sarah figure out who murdered 2 beautiful young women can't you figure it all out before it is too late or will she fall to the hands of a killer once again with no way out? This should be definitely a great book to read with a Halloween season coming up will make the hairs at the back of your neck stand up
I really liked the book it kept you on the edge of your set. I'm almost never disappointed in a Debra Webb book. This book is about a murder, two woman 20 years ago and 2 now. Are they related? The book has an interesting take on who really is the murderer, especially the two in present time. If you like Debra Webb you will like this book. If you are new to Debra Webb, you'll want to read more of her books.
Very well written. Perhaps a few too many twists and turns, but it worked fairly well. Just a little too indicative that it was written in 2009 for it to get a full 5 stars, few statements that didn't age well in my eyes.
OMG! What twists and turns that keep you riveted page after page in trying to figure out who the evil one is. Thought I had solved it several times, but NO I hadn’t! A must read to find out if Sarah can not only solve the murders, but if she might have a chance of a HEA with Kale.
I loved the mystery and suspense in this book. I was compelled to keep turning just one more page as I had to know what happened next, and I found myself reading much longer than planned. All the twists and turns keep you guessing and keep you wanting to know more. This was an intensely amazing story. Don't miss it!
Debra Webb has done it again. I couldn’t put Come Find Me down. This was a roller coaster ride from the first page. One surprise after another with a totally unexpected ending. There was so much drama in the lives of these characters that you just couldn’t pin down who the killer was. This book was so suspenseful. I loved it.
How manykillers are there in this small idealistic town? Who committed the murders 20 years ago? Who committed the murders now? Was it the same person? Sarah came to find the truth but she found much more. She has almost driven herself crazy wondering if she had inherited her mother's killer genes. Highly recommended.
This was an intense, suspenseful, intriguing, and twisted story of murder, mayhem, secrets, lies, and betrayals. It's certainly not a thriller that you'll want to miss! I would definitely recommend this book and exceptional author.
Fantastic. I have never read a book with so many twists and turns. Every time I thought I knew who it was, something else happened to change my mind. Debra webb is an amazing author
Great read, I couldn't put it down until I figured out who done it. The story had different angles that led you to true killer. Multiple secrets to unravel.
Usually I am entertained with Ms Webb’s stories, but this heroine left me cold and the romance left me nonplussed. Overall, a lot seemed disjointed and, wow, this little town was full of some bad characters.
Very good book. Kept me guessing until the very end. I kept changing my theory about the killer, and I was still wrong in the end. Those are the best books!
Youngstown Maine is a small costal town where everyone knows everyone and children are being taught by the same teachers that taught their parents. You can almost see Opey and Andy fishing down by the watering hole. Except it’s the middle of a freak snowstorm and one girl is dead and another is missing. I guess Andy took a vacation.
Of course while Andy’s out of town we have a new guest visiting. Well not really visiting, she’s investigating. And no, she’s not with the FBI. Sarah Newton is an investigative reporter. But she’s not just any investigative reporter she’s a reporter that ‘debunks supernatural myths’. It seems that the people of Youngstown believe they are under a curse and that the murder and mayhem that is being perpetrated upon this lovely, safe, God-fearing town, is because there is a curse on them. It has to be a curse; otherwise the unthinkable is true. Someone they know is murdering their teenage daughters.
Sarah is famous for her tenacity and for finding the truth so of course her appearance in town is not a welcomed one. People are on edge and she’s an outsider. An outsider with an agenda. Sarah is a New York City girl through and through and with her black pants, black coat, black converse sneakers and a take no prisoners attitude, she’s ready to find out what’s really going on in Youngstown. The fact that the townspeople hate her, that she’s attracted to the man who is her chaperone, its colder than the North Pole, its snowing in March, that she’s off her meds, haunted by bad dreams and her therapist is calling her six times a day does not deter this quirky, petite blond. She’s got attitude and with good reason. Her back story is a doozy and motivates her to find the truth no matter what. I’m not kidding about her back story – I didn’t see it coming. No wonder she has nightmares. . FIND ME has no lack of suspects. Miss Webb creates plenty of those. It’s a small town with lots of secrets. This book made me ask myself, what kind of secrets do I have. Perhaps even secrets I didn’t even know I had. You know the kind of secrets where you might ask yourself, what would happen if some alien came down and abducted me? (I like that scenario better than being hit by a bus) Anyway. If you were abducted and your family had to go to your home and sort out your belongings, what would they find? Are there some old diaries lying around that were for your eyes only? Perhaps some paraphernalia you didn’t want discovered. Or some letters that you should have burned. Maybe you just have dirty underwear on your floor or a sink filled with dirty dishes –let’s face it, there are some things not meant for public consumption. Now let’s ratchet up the stakes. Young girls are being murdered and tortured and you may be a suspect. That’s what happens in Youngstown and Sarah sees everyone as a potential suspect. This has got to mean some one is going to get ‘voted off the island’ for not playing well with others.
FIND ME is chock full of characters that are strongly written, you can almost hear them speak.
There’s Kale. He’s the chaperone I mentioned earlier. He’s not a suspect but I do have to mention him. It’s his unlucky responsibility to keep Sarah out of trouble while she’s investigating. He has his own baggage that is weighing him down. But he makes a very nice counterpoint to the feisty, self-assured, doubt ridden, cocky Sarah. Their relationship sizzles – burns fast and hot.
Oh, and then there is the FBI profiler who is Sarah’s ex-boyfriend who did her wrong – serious wrong. Personally, I found him to be a dirt bag hiding behind the polish and veneer of his black coat and shinny badge.
Oh, and then there is the Reverend and his ailing wife.
Oh, what about the inn-keeper?
Oh, then there’s the richest man in town.
Oh, how could I forget the sheriff? Not Andy, remember, he’s out of town.
Oh, the young witch who lives on the edge of town.
And what about those crows in the cemetery?
Yes, it just keeps getting better and better.
FIND ME is Debra Webb’s newest suspense, and I’ll tell you, it was suspenseful. I had no idea who did it until the very end. She has some very smart characterization, clear clean dialogue and vivid images. Each suspect she introduces you’re ready to say – or yeah they did it. But the very next chapter you begin to doubt yourself. It had me going until the end. And even then, Miss Webb twists the knife just a little deeper.
