Ο ήρωας αυτού του βιβλίου, ένας έφηβος της σημερινής εποχής, κοιτάζει γοητευμένος έναν πίνακα του Γιοακίμ Πάτενιρ. Στην όχθη, στο βάθος, δυο καλόγεροι μοιάζουν να συγκρατούν ή να σπρώχνουν μια σχεδία πάνω στην οποία είναι δεμένο ένα πτώμα. Πώς θα μπορούσε το αγόρι να διαλευκάνει το μυστήριο ενός φόνου που έγινε πριν από πολλούς αιώνες δίχως να γυρίσει και το ίδιο σ' εκείνη την εποχή;

83 books2 followersSigrid Heuck wuchs auf der Ponyfarm ihrer Mutter in einem Ort an der Bergstraße auf; seit 1949 lebte sie in der Grabenmühle, einem historischen Gebäude im oberbayerischen bei Dietramszell-Rampertshofen. Sigrid Heuck besuchte ab 1949 eine Modeschule in München; anschließend absolvierte sie ein Studium der Gebrauchsgrafik an der Münchner Akademie der Bildenden Künste. Sie arbeitete für verschiedene Werbeagenturen, verlegte sich dann jedoch auf das Illustrieren von Kinderbüchern. Seit 1959 war sie freie Schriftstellerin und Illustratorin.
Sigrid Heucks umfangreiches Werk umfasst neben Illustrationen zu eigenen und fremden Bilderbuchtexten erzählende Werke für Kinder und Jugendliche. Während ihre Kinderbücher stark von der Naturverbundenheit der Autorin geprägt sind – die auch eine Reihe von Titeln aus dem Genre des Pferdebuches verfasste –, sind ihre Jugendbücher teilweise der fantastischen Literatur (Saids Geschichte), der Abenteuerliteratur (Mondjäger) sowie dem historischen Roman (Meister Joachims Geheimnis und Die alte Mühl) zuzurechnen.
Sigrid Heuck erhielt u. a. folgende Auszeichnungen: 1984 den Friedrich-Gerstäcker-Preis für Mondjäger, 1988 den Phantastik-Preis der Stadt Wetzlar für Saids Geschichte, 1990 den Österreichischen Jugendbuchpreis für Meister Joachims Geheimnis sowie den Großen Preis der Deutschen Akademie für Kinder- und Jugendliteratur für ihr Gesamtwerk, 1994 den Bayerischen Verdienstorden und 2002 das Bundesverdienstkreuz erster Klasse. Ihre Bücher standen zudem sechs Mal auf der Auswahlliste zum Deutschen Jugendliteraturpreis.
Heuck starb am 2. Oktober 2014 im oberbayerischen Bad Tölz im Alter von 82 Jahren.
Der künstlerische Nachlass der Schriftstellerin und Illustratorin Sigrid Heuck wurde im Juni 2016 zur dauerhaften Aufbewahrung an die Kinder- und Jugendbuchabteilung der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz übergeben.

Was it murder or not?
This book is all about Landscape with St. Christopher by Dutch painter Joachim Patinir (° 1480 or 1485 - † 1524).
Do you see the two figures in the middle of the painting who're pushing a dead body in the water?
Well, that's what 16-year old Peter (the main character of this book) has also seen.
He's so intrigued that he wants to go ín the painting to find out what really happened.
At the moment, I'm re-reading all the children's books I still own and this title was one of them.
Despite the fascinating premise, as a kid I found this story extremely boring.
And almost 30 years later I'm still of the same opinion.
This book was written by German children's author Sigrid Heuck (° 1932 - † 2014).
Apparently it received several prizes, amongst others the Prize of Youth Book in Austria in 1990.
It's clear that the author did a lot of research.
An example of this are the short biographies at the end of the book of all the important characters back in Patinir's time.
That's the reason why this book gets 2* instead of 1*.
However, the presentation of this information in book form was badly executed.
It was as if the author first gathered all the information and then wrote a story to fit it all in.
But to do so, she inserted a ridiculous plot twist .
For adults this is one bridge too far to take this story seriously.
And for young adults the rest of the story is told way too dryly to retain the reader's interest throughout the entire book.
This story would've come more into its own as a historical fiction novel in the vein of the books written by Thea Beckman (from whom I just started reading Het rad van fortuin, which means 'The wheel of fortune').

El libro me ha gustado, sobre todo el misterio y la forma en que entra en el cuadro para investigar, lo detallado que es describiendo el lugar y los personajes.

Το βιβλίο ανήκει στη κατηγορία της εφηβικής/νεανικής λογοτεχνίας οπότε το ύφος και γενικότερα η γραφή είναι ελαφρώς πιο απλουστευμένη και πιο χαλαρή.
Το δυνατό σημείο του βιβλίου είναι πως το μυστήριο του Ζωγράφου αφορά έναν υπαρκτό πίνακα του ζωγράφου Γιοακίμ Πάτενιρ . Αυτό το στοιχείο είναι αρκετά ελκυστικό καθώς μπορούμε να δούμε και οι ίδιοι τον πίνακα και να βρούνε όλα όσα αναφέρονται στο βιβλίο.
Είναι αρκετά ενδιαφέρουσα ιστορία που μας ταξιδεύει αιώνες πίσω όταν ακόμη οι ζωγράφοι δούλευαν κατά παραγγελία.
Όπως ανέφερα η γραφή είναι απλή και δεν υπάρχει ανάλυση των πραγμάτων και αυτό του κόστισε παραπάνω αστεράκια όπως και το γεγονός πως υπάρχει μια σχετικά αφελής αιτιολόγηση ορισμένων γεγονότων αν πρόκειται για νεανική λογοτεχνία οπότε το περίμενα ως ένα βαθμό.

Schönes Konzept, liest sich gut. Das einzige, was mich gestört hat, ist der Fakt, dass der Hauptcharakter 14 ist zu dem Zeitpunkt, zu dem er das erlebt, was manche Szenen etwas merkwürdig erscheinen lässt. Auch das aprupte Ende war unerwartet und fast schade

I read the German edition and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fun premise. Recommended.
