Charmed #24

Deux Piper valent mieux qu'une

Rate this book
Piper kärsii kovasta stressistä, hänellä on aivan liikaa töitä ja liian vähän aikaa rentoutua. Kun hänen harmiton toiveensa itsensä tuplaantumisesta toteutuu, vaikuttaa siltä kuin ongelmaan olisi löytynyt ratkaisu. Kaksi Piperia voi tehdä tuplasti enemmän töitä, jolloin yhdelle Piperille jää aikaa rentoutua ja toinen ehtii juhlia. Vaikuttaako liian helpolta? Tottahan toki!

It was interesting as the prospect of how Piper would be if she was able to be free. Piper will always share my favourite spot with Phoebe. I do however not really understand the idea of kidnapping Leo and if it would happen to everyone that orbs out or only Leo? Pure luck for Darklighters..

Rounded up to 3 stars for GR.

Set in that odd space of late season 4 but maybe early season five because no Cole, no pregnant Piper, Phobe has her column, and Paige is still a social worker but has her read hair.

Not really a stretch of plot in this one.

Piper is overworked as always being the eldest with running P3, taking care of things around the house and helping out her sisters. Phoebe has made some wish charms for an organization to benefit children but not with enough of the right ingredients to cause any harmful wishes backed by Charmed one power.

Paige has asked Piper to bake muffins and cupcakes while P3 is getting ready to host a fashion show for the cause featuring the designer Rinaldo. On this particular day, Leo is in Whitelighter meetings with the Elders so he can't go and do the grocery shopping to help his wife out.

Also, painters meant to work on the dining room schedule this day to show up unannounced as Paige and Phoebe leave to go shopping. Phoebe tells Piper it is for work since her boss Elise thinks she needs to dress a little more...conservative. That then reminds Piper she has an interview coming up for Businesswoman of The Year, adding to her stress level.

The painters almost paint the walls blue instead of sand and Piper is knocked by one of them, accidentally, into her spice cupboard. The extra herbs land on the pouches and right then, Piper wishes that there was two of her. As the title of the book implies, we do get two Pipers, but we don't see that for a few pages.

Phoebe and Paige are still shopping at the mall when Piper shows up but instead of going off on her sisters, Piper decides to do some shopping. When all three of them get home it is when they run into the other Piper back from buying groceries. This is Piper with all of her responsible traits and human emotions but Piper Two is all of the uninhibited Piper who is self-centered and very temperamental.

All of it becomes dramatic when Leo is kidnapped and held hostage by the demon in charge of the Darklighters. He wants The Charmed Ones to give over their powers in exchange for Piper getting her husband back or they will kill him with the poison that is also fatal to half-Whitelighter Paige.

Once this news is sent to them, Piper One is ready to get back together but Piper Two has no interest.

That is basically the plot and the only one who really comes out on top is actually Leo.

He was busy in meetings all day and the Elders even tried to send The Charmed Ones a Whitelighter in training to pass on dire news. That gets her killed and when Leo gets permission to go to Piper at her call, he is snatched by the demon master.

Leo tries to free himself, but magic keeps him from orbing out, he stands up to the Darklighters taunting him and he is ready to sacrifice his own existence to keep his family safe. Leo even thinks that the world needs The Power of Three more than it needs one more Whitelighter...I love Leo.

Phoebe and Paige should have helped Piper out to keep the whole thing from escalating because even though the wish seemed harmless...it caused a lot of damage. There was nothing but personal gain in both Piper One and Piper Two for selfish reasons and nothing truly virtuous.

A Tale of Two Pipers sounds like a Season One plotline...and it fails.

I haven't read a Charmed novel in forever, but since coming across a collector letting go of her stash, I have grown my collection again and now I'm only ONE book short of completing the 41-book series! Okay, but owning 40 books and reading them is an entirely different thing (LOL) so I started with a title I thought was interesting to me at the moment.⁣

This story happens around Season 4 of the show, I think, and follows Piper as she inadvertently conjures a copy of herself, and weakens the Power of Three, just as Darklighters hold Leo hostage in exchange for the Charmed Ones' powers. I chose to start this book bec I thought it was similar to episodes where Prue multiplies (either through a spell or astral projection) and oh my goodness, this was so much better than I expected!⁣

For one thing, the characters remained true to their TV personalities. Piper, Phoebe and Paige acted like how I imagined they would act on the show, and the magical rules were p much the same to that of the show. What's better is the presentation of their internal narratives, tougher to show believably on screen, and so much better and fleshed-out on book pages. I really got to make sense of Piper's frustrations, first in her never ending search for a witchy work-life balance, then in her sort of cheating with the enemy (spoiler alert, sorry), and then finally in the possibility that she might lose Leo ⁣

It was also a delight to discover that I love Emma Harrison's writing style! It's so close to the romance books I enjoy. Her plot structure and progression reminded me of early chick-lit I adored in the early 2000s. And bec the Piper x Leo ship is central to this story, her light, yet layered voice made it more emotional and heartfelt.⁣

IDK when I'll be able to read more from my stash of Charmed novels but I'm so happy I got back in with this one. I highly recommend it! 💓⁣

Not a bad storyline, just a bit too Piper centric for me. Obviously, she would be the main character but there just wasn’t enough Paige and Phoebe. It was interesting to see two different sides to Piper but didn’t feel true to her character that both halves would be avoiding her responsibilities instead of just one. Was interested to get a peek of ‘up there’ with Leo though, considering that is always such a mystery.

It was fun overall, it just got really rushed towards the end there. I do also appreciate that the mail support wasn’t demon boyfriend based, it’s just a shame they brought it in even as a tiny side story though

Reminded me of an episode of Legend of the Seeker. Piper was split into two but it was entirely evenly and she started to “unravel.” Really fun quick read though I wish I had managed to read it in October. Alas….

It was ok. The show is much better than the books. The writing style does not have the same effect at portraying the characters that the actors did. The show is one of my favourites of all time so I had high hopes.

Like all the other Charmed novels, a great book, and just as good as the actual show.

Usually, I'm a bit skeptic when it's about tv show novels, but I have to say I really enjoyed reading some of the Charmed books.

It was well written and interesting to read. I found the split view of Piper really added to the story.

I loved reading this book and enjoyed how it basically explained that you should always be careful of what you wish for

Ugh! Were Star Trek novels this bad too? I read a whole bunch of those years ago. This was pretty bad and especially bad if you, like me, have never watched the TV show. So I couldn't tell if the characters were true to greater universe of fiction they were created in; however, they seemed ridiculous. A day's read...nothing more.
