This is a romance and suspense mystery, the second in a series on Solace Island from Meg Tilly. It is a engaging and lovely read, despite me not having read the first book. What I particularly enjoyed about it were the characters and the beautiful and arresting location of Solace Island in the Pacific Northwest. Eve and Maggie are two sisters, close to each other, who run the Intrepid Cafe and Bakery. It is Maggie that is the talented cook, whilst Eve helps in the cafe and runs it in terms of finance and administration. Eve's real passion is her art, a field that she is visibly struggling to make her mark in, the only sales she has made is within her circle of family and friends. Her romantic life has been an arid desert for some time, she had a relationship with a musician, Levi, but he was into the rock star life of a stream of women, no commitment, and denigrated her artistic ambitions, all of which has made her wary of getting involved with any other man.

Thoroughly envious of her sister Maggie's fortune in finding and marrying a man, Luke, who she loves, Eve finds herself house sitting for them whilst they go on a well deserved holiday. Rhys Thomas is a famous actor and friend of Luke. He is looking for a place to rest and recuperate after finishing a film, his home is having work done on it. Luke offers his home, but without telling Eve, and Rhys accepts. Rhys is at the point in his life that the novelty of so many women throwing themselves at him has worn off, the one night stands and short relationships are no longer what he wants. After getting over the initial shock of finding that they are going to be sharing a house, Rhys and Eve find themselves attracted to each other, but will it develop into anything more meaningful? Their developing relationship is lent a deadly edge as lurking in the background is a dangerous man stalking Eve.

Meg Tilly writes a suspenseful and tense romance with characters that will appeal to many readers looking for escapist and feel good reading fare. The location provides the perfect background for the novel, and the cafe environment provides the atmosphere of a small community where most people know each other. An entertaining read for those looking for romance with elements of thrilling suspense. Many thanks to Little, Brown for an ARC.

Eve Harris is house sitting and running their restaurant/bakery on her own while her sister Maggie goes off on her honeymoon. What she doesn’t know is that her brother-in-law is allowing Rhys Thomas, the famous heartthrob actor to stay at their house as well. Of course, as this is a romance, sparks fly and despite Eve’s reservations about getting involved with someone famous, they plunge into an affair. Or what she thinks is an affair, since she’s had bad luck with the famous sort in the past.

Rhys is actually more serious about their relationship since he tired of the one-night stands and shallow flings, a “bonus” to being famous, a long time ago.

It ends up being a fortunate thing that Eve is staying at her sister’s house with Rhys since unbeknownst to her she’s become the obsession of a stalker/serial killer. When it becomes apparent someone is after Eve, Rhys is determined to keep her safe.

Cliff’s Edge was an entertaining read, something to take along to the beach or pool as light reading while intermittently people watching. While this is a mystery/thriller, it’s heavier on the romance side, with a lot of heat and spice. I will say I was feeling a bit overloaded with the flowery descriptions, enough that it was distracting me from the actual story and emotions I felt should be coming through in parts. Also, I felt the romance and sex scenes were a little dramatic and cheesy at times.

I did love the setting of Solace Island, a small picturesque island off the coast of Seattle, forests leading to seaside cliffs and gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean. The beauty came through in Ms. Tilly’s writing.

A copy was kindly provided by Berkley in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first introduction to Meg Tilly's writing, and I honestly wish that I would have discovered her sooner. I was completely entranced with her spellbinding story. Additionally, I did not read Solace Island prior to reading Cliff's Edge, which is not a necessity.

Maggie and Luke are finally able to take their delayed honeymoon leaving Maggie's sister Eve Harris to house sit their gorgeous home on Solace Island (in the Pacific Northwest) while they are away. Maggie and Eve are incredibly close are run The Intrepid Cafe and Bakery together. Maggie is the pastry chef master while Eve overseas its finances and administration. This is far from Eve's dream job since she is a painter, but her art isn't selling outside of her family and close friends. The bakery is making money, but the increasing amount of debt is a constant source of stress for Eve. To make matters worse, Eve's love life is non-existent following her break up with her musician boyfriend Levi who only wanted to pursue the thrills of the rockstar lifestyle.

Eve decides that she's going to use this house-sitting opportunity to just relax, paint, and not think about all of her problems. There's only one teensy tiny problem. Luke also promised the house to the gorgeous, famous actor (and his best friend) Rhys Thomas, which Eve was unaware of. While the situation is less than ideal, especially since Eve is staving off all men, she decides to give their temporary living arrangement a chance when she realizes that Rhys is actually a pretty good cook, and she could really use the help running the cafe while Maggie is away. Things begin to heat up between Eve and Rhys as they begin to get to know each other, but their relationship is put to the test as danger looms over Eve.

Unbeknownst to both Eve and Rhys, Eve has been selected as the next victim for a mysterious murderer whose POV comes up throughout the story. Reading the murderer's POV was incredibly chilling. He describes how Eve must be punished for frivolously giving away her affections and the lengths he will go to in order to claim her as his.

This book was everything that I wanted in a romantic suspense. I loved watching the development of Eve and Rhys's relationship because both of these characters have a background filled with betrayal and heartbreak and neither one trusts easily. They each have to face their past ghosts and break down the barriers surrounding their hearts. I also loved that I was completely in the dark about the person who was stalking Eve. It was so creepy to read his chapters because it was like watching a game of cat and mouse except Eve was completely unaware of the danger she was in. I was guessing all the way until the end, and I was still taken by surprise.

Overall, if you're looking for a steamy romance that is also a heart-pounding thriller then you don't want to miss this epic story. I can't wait for Meg Tilly's next book!

Thank you to Berkley publishing for an eARC through First to Read. This did not influence my review. All opinions are my own.

What a lovely surprise! I loved this sexy and funny and warm romantic suspense. Fans of Kristen Ashley will devour this one.

Eve Harris is left alone to run a cafe that she owns with her sister Maggie when Maggie goes on her honeymoon. Eve is also going to dog sit for Maggie and her husband Luke's Wolfhound Samson. Soon after Eve arrives, though, she realizes that there is another house guest: Luke's old friend Rhys, a famous actor who is seeking some much-needed some peace and quiet in the small town of Solace Island.

Eve has had her heart broken and isn't interested in men. But she enlists Rhys to help her run the cafe while Maggie is away and soon their banter and flirting turns into something more. Eve isn't interested in being just a fling but Rhys and Eve have fabulous chemistry and soon he falls in love with the gorgeous Solace Island and the beautiful, funny and artistic Eve.

“However, for the record, I’m tired of short-term. Am looking for something more. Whether that ‘something more’ is you?” He shrugged. “Who knows? But I’m not so chickenshit that I’m going to tuck tail and run without exploring if there’s a possibility for something more.”

But Rhys isn't the only one interested in Eve. There is a criminal lurking around Solace Island and he has hit sights set on Eve.

'Cliff's Edge' is an engaging and lively story with lots of action and sexy, steamy romance. This was my first book by Meg Tilly and I enjoyed every minute. I was surprised at the well-written romantic scenes and the absorbing characters. While the second book the 'Solace Island' series, this book can be read as a complete standalone. If you are looking for a low-angst, sexy and witty story with adult characters with adult issues and concerns, then you will love this book. And read through the Acknowledgments for a lovely surprise from the author! I highly recommend this captivating and romantic tale.

Home is not a physical place, he thought, smiling up into the darkness. It’s a state of being. And right now, in this very moment, I am home.

I loved returning to Solace Island!

This author’s way of telling a story had me once again with my head down, glued to the pages, until it was all over. Cliff’s Edge had just the right amounts of humour, suspense and romance as Eve found her calling. In life and love…

Eve was a bold, bright character I fell in love with in the first instalment of this series. She was artistic yet grounded in a way that kept her feet on the ground. She worried about living up to her role as big sister and that fed her anxiety unfortunately as she felt overwhelmed by the choices she’d made. She loved the island and the artistic freedom it gave her but the cooking… Not so much. I sympathized with her skills in the kitchen and laughed along with her as she moaned her lack of culinary skills. Rhys was an unexpected gift as his need for solitude, and skills in the kitchen, met both their needs…

I loved how their story played out. Two artists with very different paths came together in a meeting of the minds as well as the kitchen. They were flirty and serious yet but the combination worked as they came together at the café as well as uniting against an unknown enemy. The unfolding of the mystery went hand in hand with the romance and it came together in another great read.

I hope there is more from Solace Island because I don’t want to leave! ~Diane, 4.5 stars

Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog: http://www.romancingthereaders.com/20...

I've been meaning to read this since I read the first book in the series. I get distracted so easily. It happens. It's hard sometimes to pick out a book. I'm glad that I finally picked this one. I really enjoyed the first book in the series and liked this one just as much.

I think what I like about her books is that she writes a good story and they aren't too heavy. Yes, this has suspense but it doesn't take over the romance. That's what I like in my romances. If I'm reading a romance I want romance. Now, I said it's light that doesn't mean the mystery is not there because I felt that it was.

I really enjoyed Eve from the first book and when you get to know her more in her book you learn even more about her to like. She cares about her family so much. She'd do everything she could for them. And does.

I also really liked Rhys. I think what I liked about him is that he's not a weak man by any means but he's also not one of those heroes that can take on the world while drinking a beer. Sometimes you need a hero that knows enough to know when you have to call in the big guns but would not shy away from throwing themselves in front of a bullet for you.

These two together really mesh. I love how they worked together. You can really feel the caring and love that they've started to feel for each other. On top of what's going on in the book, you joined with characters that you want to know more about. As a whole, I loved this story and really need to read the next book. Have any of you read her before?

This book wasn’t for me but it was present to me has a suspense romance... and... not so much. I would classify it has romance with a slight little twist in it. If you’re a fan of thriller I don’t think that this is the right book, but if you like romance, and want something a bit different, with a little thrill to it, then this might be worth looking at. I don’t read romance, don’t like it and don’t enjoy reading those, so all the romance was unpleasing to me. For me this book is a 2/5, for the writing which is a good average writing style for this kind of book. But I really think that for romance reader this could achieve a 3,5/5. So i will rate it a fair 3/5, knowing that the romance part wasn’t for me without being badly done!

This is the second book in the Solace Island series by Author/Actress Meg Tilly. Usually I find that the 2nd book may not quite live up to the first in series, but I am happy to say tht it is not so in this case. In fact I enjoyed it even more than the firat book. The plot was exciting and the characters are more endearing in this 2nd effort.

“Her life was about to change. She just didn’t know it yet.”

Cliff’s Edge is my first book by this author and won’t be my last.

Told from multiple points of view, Cliff’s Edge follows the story of Eve and Rhys. When Eve’s sister goes on her honeymoon, she finds herself house-sitting. Only when she arrives, she finds the house is already occupied by non other than Rhys Thomas. Not only is he a movie, but he’s also friends with Eve’s brother-in-law. He’s looking for a place to unwind and get away from it all. And he’s not about to let Eve’s presence stop him from getting the sanctuary he so desperately is looking for. The time Rhys and Eve spend together, the closer they become. Little do they know that their entire worlds are about to be turned upside down….

Overall, I thought this was a really good read. I loved the idea of the story and I was certainly sucked into it. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and loved seeing them all interact. I thought this story was paced well and I enjoyed not only the romance, but the suspense element. I really liked getting the villains point of view and the suspense kept me glued to the pages. While this is the second book in the Solace Island Series, it can totally be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel.

As I previously stated, this is my first book by this author and I look forward to checking out more from her in the future.

Cliff’s Edge by Meg Tilly is the 2nd book in her Solace Island romance suspense series. In the first book, we met Eve Harris, who is Maggie’s (first book heroine) sister, and knew this second book would be about her. Eve is a painter by trade, but is just starting out trying to sell her pictures, and becomes co-owner of the new Intrepid café with Maggie. Maggie is a great cook and baker, and Eve (who can’t cook) takes care of everything else. When Maggie and her husband Luke (last book hero) leave for a two-week honeymoon, Eve is left finding a way to cook and keep things running smoothly at the café. She also leaves her apartment, to stay at her sister’s house to house sit and take care of their dog.

Rhys Thomas, our hero, is a movie star who has just completed his work on a movie, and decides to take a vacation, and goes to stay for two weeks at his friend Luke’s house on Solace Island. Of course, unbeknownst to him, someone else is there when he arrives, and he is accosted by Eve, thinking he is a burglar. When they both realize that both Maggie and Luke accidently offered their home to them, they decide to co-exist in the house for the duration of the two weeks. At first Eve, who finds Rhys hot, wants nothing to so with a movie star, who she feels is a womanizer and always traveling. But she discovers he is a great cook, and pushes him to have fun at her café and help cook, which he does accept.

In a short time, neither of them cannot resist their combustible attraction to each other and a sizzling romance begins. I loved Eve and Rys together, as their chemistry was off the wall. While they work at the café, enjoy each other’s company, a murderer has his eyes on Eve. We do get a few POV’s on the killer’s mindset, and his determination to make Eve his next victim. I will say that I thought early on, the murderer was someone we knew, but it turns out to be a surprise that was not anyone I would have guessed. There were a few small incidents within the café or Eve’s apartment, that made Rhys bent on protecting Eve; especially after another murder of someone close to Eve. As I noted earlier, the suspense was not the forefront of the story, but was very well done.

The romance between Rhys and Eve was sweet and fun, as we watched them both slowly falling deeper in love. Their romance heats up, and the danger escalates for Eve, as we race to an exciting and suspenseful climax. I do not want to give spoilers, as you will need to read this book to discover who the culprit was.

Cliff’s Edge was a fun, enjoyable and captivating read, as well as having a wonderful couple, great secondary characters, with a sweet romance and mystery. Meg Tilly once again gives us a excellent romance suspense to enjoy. This reads very well as a standalone, but I suggest you start with the first book to enjoy Maggie and Luke’s story. I wholly recommend you read the Solace Island series.

I liked Eve and I love Solace Island, but for some reason this one fell a bit flat for me. Maybe it was Rhys, the movie star angel seemed odd to me, even though I liked him, loved how he treated his mom. The whole bad person on the island, who could it be seemed off, especially when it seemed like one person even though I didn't think it was them.

Meg Tilly has outdone herself! Great mystery, great romance told from three different points of view. I knew I was never going to guess who the bad guy was, but I appreciated the POV to get into that head space as well. I am a suspense, thriller lover, but when it's combined with a romance I know I'm going to not be stuck in the dark for too long when the romance keeps the light in. I fell in love with Eve in Solace Island and was so happy when the news of Cliff's Edge came out and I knew I was going to get to know her better and in turn Maggie and Luke's story after the epilogue. Can be read as a standalone and hope more characters from Solace Island will be written, maybe Dorothy or Larry.

I received an advanced copy of this book. This is the second book in the Solace Island Series, but you can read it as a stand-alone, and not be lost, as the story is self contained. This is the story of Eve and Rhys. Eve lives on Solace Island and is part owner of a bakery. Her sister, and her husband go on their honeymoon and leave Eve to run the bakery on her own with their staff. Little does Eve know that Rhys will also be staying in her sister’s home while they are gone. Rhys ends up helping out in the bakery as well, but danger lies around the corner for Eve,as sparks fly between the two of them. Rhys must help save Eve’s life. This is a great suspense and romance. I highly enjoyed this one, and hope that there are more in this series!

Omg, I didn't know what I was in for... I liked meg tilly as a comedian and decided to try her new book... I will say I hate sex in books, this to me was more like soft porn, the fact I finished this is because it made me laugh thinking of her writing this stuff. I have never read anything like this, only based on liking the author did I stick around. It's jam packed with Hollywood movie made scenes galore, I read this more as an actress writing a book and thinking of her parts and movie scenes. I am definitely not her target market, is this what harlequin romance novels are like? It was entertaining for me, but for all the wrong reasons!

Creepy thriller-type plot mixed with steamy sex scenes. Add unlikable characters and that about sums it up. I had been curious about Tilly's foray into writing and now that's satiated so I won't be reading her other two books in this series. The writing was good enough but not one character appealed to me and while the hot scenes were ok and the creepy factor parts necessary were ok ... the overall vibe was a let down. The sisters, Eve and Maggie, who opened this bakery on Solace Island had a good thing going and this story could've been so much better.

I'm enjoying seeing where this series is progressing and how the author's voice is growing. This is a rather unique contemporary romance, as it is equal parts small town romcom and romantic suspense, which are tonally tricky genres to intertwine. Somehow, though, it comes together for me, and I enjoyed equally the forced proximity trope with a stalker suspense plot. All in all, I've enjoyed both books I've read from this author and would read more in the future

I liked the pacing better in this one over Solace Island. It was quite the page turner. I do recommend to read Solace Island first to follow along for Cliff's Edge, but not necessary. I wonder if this Island exists. Sounds beautiful.

Cliff’s Edge is the first book I have read by Meg Tilly. This is the second novel in Ms. Tilly’s series, Solace Island. Thanks goes to the publisher, via Net-Galley, for inviting me to read and review in advance of publication. My opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.

Cliff’s Edge is an interesting read with engaging characters and an intriguing plot. The pacing is good, keeping me enmeshed from the beginning to the end. I was completely surprised when the villain is revealed. I never saw it coming, which is always a plus.

Eve Harris is an enchanting character. Her passion is her art, but she’s discouraged when she can’t sell her work to anyone besides her friends and family. She’s dedicated to her sister and will do whatever it takes to give Maggie the honeymoon she deserves, even though she’s ill-equipped. She’d a dismal baker, and even though her sister has prepared lots of items in advance, she can’t even manage to bake them without burning the pies and cookies.

This is the part of the story I had a problem with. I could not imagine leaving Eve in charge because Maggie had to realize it would be a disaster. The other issue I have is Eve’s debt. There’s no way I would let my sister struggle when the man I married has bucketsful. Of course, Eve is as stubborn as they come.

Rhys is an outstanding hero with many facets to his personality. He is immediately attracted to Eve. Although, she nothing like his previous women. Eve is not a short-fling type of woman, but that’s okay, since he’s grown tired of meaningless hook-ups with groupies who only see his superficial actor’s façade. He offers to help her with her dilemma. Fortunately, his hobby is cooking, and he’s a great one. He takes over the kitchen, letting Eve run the front, which she does most proficiently.

The romance is strong between Eve and Rhys, and I enjoyed them as a couple and could see them having a lasting relationship. The sexual scenes are well-written with the emotions of the act more important than the physical aspects.

Ms. Tilly gives the villain a POV that is graphic and chilling regarding his plans for Eve, with no hint as to his identity. As the story progresses his obsession only grows in intensity. There are several murders that occur, one that involves an individual who has played a major role in Eve’s life. That was most shocking and gruesome.

If you like a romance with plenty of suspense, and a fulfilling love story, then you will enjoy Cliff’s Edge. While I had a difficult time buying into some of the plot points, nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Happy reading!

Cliff’s Edge is a contemporary romance story with a thriller in the plot. The story is not overwhelmingly a thriller. The core of the story is a couple meeting, getting to know each other and then, of course, being a romance book, the couple will go on to live united and in love. That is why I mostly read romance books. I want the happily ever after. My thought is that life throws enough at me to make me upset. I read to escape the real world and find a place that things always work out for the good people and the bad people find out they can’t get away with their bad behavior.
Having stated that, Cliff’s Edge is all that and so much more! I not only escaped my life, I was transported to a beautiful Island and once again met up with the lovely people from the first book in this series, Solace Island. Meg Tilly writes in such an easy flowing way that the reading is so effortlessly that I am not even thinking I am reading, I am more experiencing the story firsthand.
I usually do not read thrillers, but I am so glad I did read this one. The story is tense at times, but knowing that the end would be fine kept me moving forward. It actually was not as intense as I thought it would be, which is a good thing to me. Another point I want to make is that Meg Tilly writes her female characters are strong women. They are powerful warriors but also kind-hearted and loving people.
The characters are so well developed that I feel like I know them. The scenery of Solace Island, where the first and the second book take place is described so wonderfully, that I feel present there among the characters in the story.
I do not want to talk about the plot itself. I believe most books are best read without much knowledge of the plot. This is definitely a book that falls into that category for me.
I enjoyed this book so much. I am anxiously waiting for the third book (Hidden Cove) in the series, which is due to be released on October 1, 2019.
A side note: Meg Tilly is so talented in many ways as a dancer, actor, author. I had the pleasure of meeting her at a book convention and I can add that she is so sweet and kind to everyone she meets. I hope you will pick up her novels and give her writing a try. I believe you will agree with me that her books will transport you and give you a great journey.

This is the first book by Meg Tilly that I've read and I was a little worried that I would feel left out by not reading the previous book in the series. However, this book stands completely on its own. Eve's sister (from the previous book) just got married and she's heading off to her honeymoon. Which is why she asks Eve to house sit for them and run the bakery while she's away. Eve's brother-in-law tells his buddy that he can crash at their place while they are gone to get away from the prying eyes of the public for a bit. So, the two characters from the previous book don't actually show up much in this story.

Not only is there romance in this story between Eve and Rhys, but there's also a stalker out there who's set their sights on Eve. I really liked that the author included chapters from this person's perspective because it really added another layer to the story. You are witness to this person stopping into her bakery, breaking into her apartment, and killing others on their quest to get Eve. I think without that added POV, this wouldn't have had the layer of suspense that it did. I was always wondering who it was and the author kept me guessing right up to the end.

With that being said, while I liked the suspense aspect of it, I wasn't overly feeling the romance portion. I just felt like these two fell into it a little too easily. Here's this big movie star who all of a sudden wants a serious relationship that they are introducing their mother to? I guess I was just hoping for a bit more development on the romance before it got so deep and heavy.

Cliff's Edge was a solid read. The author had me guessing who the killer was right up until the big reveal. I liked that she included the killer's point of view because it really brought it into focus for the readers that there was a real danger out there. I do wish that the romance had a little bit more build up and that the main character wasn't so quick to fall in love, but that's just my opinion.

I enjoyed this romantic suspense installment in the Solace Island series. The looming danger started off with a bang and made me edgy wondering when the axe would fall. Granted, the villain was a bit questionable for me regarding logistics and probability, but not enough to ruin this sexy romance. Although Eve made me frown when she came across as a bit of a harpy to Rhys in the beginning, that changed rather quickly so we could get down to the budding romance. I liked her and related to her. I was pleased that Rhys didn’t play as the stereotypical famous actor. He was personable, had a deep past and was an all-around nice guy – easy to fall in love with. Their romance flowed nicely into quite a sexy relationship. It was a fun trip back to Solace Island and has me anxious to visit again.

Wow I didn’t think this book would be like this which made it even better! Eve is just trying to make a success of the Intrepid her cafe that she owns with her sister but the mortgage is a killer. When Eve agrees to stay at her sisters house while they are on a two week honeymoon she never expected a house guest but there Rhys is and he is planning to stay. With her sister gone she doesn’t know how she is going to bake to keep the business going as Eve is a terrible cook so she begs Rhys to help her, which is going fine but things start to happen and things of hers are missing like her scarf. No one believes her except Rhys who is becoming closer and closer to her so she is pretty sure she loves him.
This story had a lot of surprises and it was nice to see someone in Rhys position care so much about anyone and to see how brave Eva can be when faced with a threat.

This is the first book I’ve read by Tilly, and I have to say, while it was a little predictable and not something I would consider suspense....I really enjoyed it.

The use of imagery and the chemistry between her characters had a nice slow burn to it, the fact that her heroine was a strong female was also a plus...and taking place in a small, sleepy town is the perfect backdrop for romance with a little twist.

I look forward to reading more from this author, and can only hope each story describes the senses like this one does...beautifully done.

What I like about this is how it just dives right into completely unrealistic romance tropes. Likable characters--except for the obvious bad guys. Also, it's fun that Meg Tilly probably still acts, but also writes romance novels (along with several acclaimed YA novels).

When I read Solace Island I had no clue whoe author was. Of course once I finished it I realize, and with this book I can seriously say this author had a way with I, oved this one. She got bolder with her words. I love meeting up with Luke and Maggie but most of all I loved reading Eve and Rhys story. I cried, I laughed, and i loved it. Can't wait for the next story! If your looking for the next noble proze novel move on. If you want fun exciting book. A book that you dont wanna put down, this is if.

Easy read. Good story. Short chapters.
The storyline is a bit tin, some details seemed superficials, but overall a nice little story on a December day.
