BREAK ME DOWN is the continuation of Abraham and Myra's story and the second novel in the Breaking Trilogy.
"I wasn't the woman I once was, sheltered from reality. Through it all, one thing remained the same—I wanted Abraham."
A life outside the gates of Lancaster was never a choice I would have made on my own. Groomed into obedience, I was blind to their manipulation, their neglect, and their abuse.
They are a cult.
Abraham saved me.
Then the ugliest truths came out, and I ran.
Regardless of how hard I push him away, there is no denying the security and comfort I found in his arms. No ignoring the pull he has on me or how his affection gives me strength.
Hope.
The will to fight.
But I'll have to find myself before I can ever be truly his.
The real world broke my heart, but it wouldn’t break me down.
M. Mabie lives in Illinois with her husband. She writes unconventional love stories and tries to embody "real-life romance."
She cares about politics, but will not discuss them in public. She uses the same fork at every meal, watches Wayne's World while cleaning, and lets her dog sleep on her head. She has always been a writer. In fact, she was born with a pen in her hand, which almost never happens. Almost.
M. Mabie usually doesn't speak in third-person. She promises.
BREAK ME DOWN: is the second book full length novel in M. Mabie's 'The Breaking' trilogy. It picks up where the first book left off.
After the way things left off in the previous book I literally couldn't wait to get my grabby hands on this as soon as it went live. After learning a few home truths about her upbringing and her family, which resulted in her taking flight in the previous book, I was unsure what state Myra would be in, but she surprised me in this book, she was actually stronger than I previously gave her credit for, and I for one loved seeing this new side of her take shape.
I wasn't sure who I was anymore, but at the same time some changes were like a whole new, exciting world opening its doors to me.
Their marriage was one of convenience, born out of false pretenses, and was fake. Abe hadn't wanted to take a wife, he was happy with how things were going in his life, he'd only married Myra so he could rescue her from the cult. But having her in his space he found he wasn't so lonely, his home became more homely and he adapted to having her around him, even to the point when she wasn't around any more he found he missed her and just wanted to grab her caveman style and bring her back home where she belonged.
I loved how they fumbled around each other, learning each other, learning to adapt as a united couple, this brought out all the feels. Such a super, cute, sweet story, I loved seeing them evolve as a couple and as separate people.
I really really love this series so far. Love these characters, the development and the anticipation as they discover each other. This one is the typical filler book 2, but it was good nonetheless.
I do have to point out that this version I read (bought, not an ARC) was definitely not edited. It had tons of grammatical errors. Not sure if the author made a mistake and loaded the unedited version but it should be fixed. Definitely not a fan of spending my hard earned money on books that are not properly edited.
REVIEW: 4+ STARS "I may never know why, but the animal inside me wanted Myra as bas as I wanted to be the moral man she needed."
I love that we got somewhere with this second book!! THIS is how you write a second book in a trilogy! It's always scary to jump into an unfinished trilogy not knowing when we will get the full story, but it's doubly scary not knowing if the author is just stretching thin a storyline that could be told more efficiently. Well, serious headway was made with this one. Between personal growth and storyline growth, this one was still a rollercoaster of emotions with great a buildup of anticipation. Aaaaand a very sad cliffhanger with this next one as well....
"I was learning the hard way why patience was a virtue."
Not only did the beginning of this story bring us right back into Abe's emotional turmoil, but we got Myra's triumphant release and some personal discoveries as well. As sad as I was that the first book left off where it did, Mabie did such a good job making us go through the emotions and really feel Abe's pain and torture - and it was pure torture what he went through. Necessary, but painful. But I feel that the real story was Myra's awakening. I cannot imagine my entire world being torn apart and my reality being questioned. I would be a flat out mess, and yet Myra did it with class and grace, but more so with strength and determination. I loved watching her come out from hiding from within herself. She truly grew so much during this book, and sliding back into her new norm was definitely a task.
I can only say so much about this one because of it being the middle book in the trilogy, but I can say that I really enjoyed it and loved it. The new developments that were thrown into the story to give it that much more depth were well placed. Overcoming some obstacles and barriers that were outlined in the first book and then moving to this one was a feat, I feel but it still flowed well. I love when an author can weave in the intricacies needed to make a story flow with growth and humor and love. Mabie did that with this one so well. While reading this, the perspective given to me was eye opening, for sure. Some things I never would have thought of, nor would I have given it a second thought. Almost a little crazy to think about, but there is so much that I take for granted, but they were some of those things that were brand new experiences for her and to see her experience . It was fun to see her explore and grow personally and intimately. I loved how Mabie spelled out the emotions with their actions, not just telling me what was going on. I felt all their joys and triumphs, as much as I hurt when they did. I cannot tell you enough how much I am loving this trilogy so far!!
I am excited for more to come from Myra and Abe and the love they undoubtedly share. Bring it on!!! Don't leave me hanging, Mo!!!
"My body still felt the pull of his. His eyes still warmed my skin." ~BEE
Nothing wrong with the story, it's great just the continuation of Abe and Myra's relationship.. I just can't get into it anymore, I am just.. pissed..
Unpopular opinion alert! Rant ahead.
Okay.. Deep breath. Hah. I get it. I get it. The author intends to write a trilogy that means she needs to drag the story and have more content. Absolutely unnecessary this could've been a standalone or at most a duet but I get it. Myra was confused and felt betrayed and she left.. I get it. This world was new to her. But oh my God as much as I loved Myra in the previous book I DETESTED the way she was acting up in this one. You have to understand that Abe always put her first, got her away from those psychos and then what does this crazy woman do? Leaves him worried sick and just up and away. Are you KIDDING ME? When the previous book ended I thought something had happened to her. He's the ONLY one who ever gave a shit about you and you make him suffer so much? Oh suddenly you know how to have some opinions and backbone, which, I might add, Abe made possible for you and you turn your back on him feeling "betrayed" and "confused"? BULL! I am sorry but I did not like the angle this story took. She was cruel to Abe.. And by 68% of the story, she finally gets her head out of her ass and realizes what an absolute gem Abe was who owed her NOTHING yet still gave her everything selflessly.. And now she feels down because he doesn't wanna push much to be with her.. Well it's only fair you suffer a little too. WHEN I grabbed this book I did not expect it to turn out like this.. Yes I am overreacting and as a mad passionate reader I feel a lot for my favorite characters specially the one's who are just being treated cruelly emotionally. Nah.. Not the way to go.
I was so so excited to get this story, literally bothering the author all the time and this just made me angry honestly. He didn't deserve it.
She finally realizes what an amazing human Abe is but like I said.. Can't get into the story anymore.. Don't feel like anticipating the next part too.
I was eagerly anticipating the release of this next part in The Breaking trilogy and it was everything I hoped it would be.
After the way things were between Abe and Myra I was worried about her vulnerable state of mind. Would she put faith in what she has learnt since she met Abe or will she revert back to what she has been conditioned to be?
Myra does a lot of soul searching in this story. She is trying to find herself, find purpose in her life away from everything she once believed to be true to this new way of life. She knows that she needs to learn to stand on her own two feet and make decisions based on what she really wants. She needs to take a step back from everything going on with Abe and think about her future with him.
Abe is messed up over Myra, he has genuine feelings for her but is worried that he may have already lost her before they have even really begun. He never wants her to feel the way she did living in the cult she grew up in but he fears that he is no better than the men she grew up around.
Proving to Myra that he is worthy of her is going to take patience and time but Abe is willing to do anything to prove to Myra that what they had was real and that they deserve a future together.
I absolutely loved this second instalment in Abe & Myra’s story, the hesitant innocence and vulnerability was so well done. I’m excited to see what else is in store as these two move forward in their life journey together.
I finally read the sequel to Break My Fall a few days ago and I really, really enjoyed it! There's just something about these books that just sucks me right in. It's different, and captivating and at times it's heartbreaking. I cannot wait to read the finale of Abraham and Myra's story!
Break Me Down is book 2 in The Breaking Trilogy. First let me state that I really enjoyed book 1. I thought the characters were great and although slow it worked with the story. Book 2 picks up where book 1 left off with Myra gone and it's also where my issues begin. Abe is out of his mind with worry and not one of his friends clue him in to where she is, they are supposed to be his family and I thought that was unacceptable. The story is boring with absolutely nothing happening, just day in and out Myra trying to get her GED. Now one of my biggest issues was that this book was filled with grammatical errors. It was distracting and really annoying. I will not purchase book 3 and if I decide to finish the story the book would need to be free or on KU.
I was eagerly awaiting the continuation of Abraham and Myra's story. In Break My Fall Mabie created such a detailed, layered and gasp worthy story. I had so many questions, so many feelings and the dynamic between the hero and heroine was both complex and in an odd way completely natural, especially for the circumstances they were in.
In Break Me Down it's all about Myra and I have to admit it was amazingly satisfying watching her come into her own. She's such a unique character. Her transformation has been astounding. It's almost like she has to re learn everything and take her life choices into her own hands, no longer being a puppet for the teachings instilled in her in Lancaster.
Abe is as swoon worthy as ever. Showing restraint, compassion, patience and empathy. He's also hot AF! Every look, every touch, every word between them seems heightened. When he and Myra come together there's an undeniable chemistry between them and man do they sizzle! I love the words Mabie chooses to seduce us on every page, I truly can't wait for more and that ENDING!!!! Gah!
SERIOUSLY!!!??? Is the cult in the book or is it the readers convinced to buy the trilogy ....
Beyond disgusted. I cannot condone the pricing practice of authors I otherwise genuinely love. Although authors are entitled to write stories of their choice and set the prices, those choices do not come without reader/buyer reaction. I see nothing here to warrant $4 for 216 pgs of book 1 and $5 for only 157 pgs of book 2 for $9 so far, and there's another book yet to come. I don't care how good the story may be, this is ridiculous IMO for an ebook trilogy. [And don't get me started on the number of grammatical, proofreading and spelling errors in the series.] I wonder how short the final book will be and if the progression of higher pricing will continue. What is the end result? A total trilogy for $14 - $15? Until the author's re-release of KNOT from a single book to a two-book duet and a changed title for double the money, I had loved ALL her books. But, the practice of splitting up what should be one book into multiple books (an act per book, if you will) that are rarely, if ever, done well and dragging out the story to pump up the price, simply smacks of greed. I hate to say it, but the books aren't worth that price, and since I am the buyer, I reserve the right to have an opinion on feeling fleeced. For any haters, I'm not a cheapskate. I own almost 3,000 Kindle books, Nook books and Google Play books, plus a monthly KU membership, and read at least a book a day. I think the real "cult" here is convincing readers to buy 3 books at an overblown price. Truly, I hope everyone disagrees with me and thinks the books are worth it, but I (for one) will not continue on with the series.
I was anxiously awaiting this one after the way book 1 ended and it was just what I wanted it to be. She drags out the angst a bit (like Mo loves to do) but still gives us a great story. And Myra is the story in this one. I loved seeing her discover new things in book 1 but her growth here so much more. I’m not sayingAbe didn’t have his moments but, Myra stole the show in this one, not always doing what I expected her to. The timid girl was gone. I don’t want to spoil anything about where the storyline goes so I won’t say too much more. This one does end slightly abruptly but is not nearly as bad.
soo i started this series because the blurb really intrigued me. But after the first few chapters of the first book, i grew bored with the story. it almost reads like ascript and is just too long. She could have written 1 long story instead of three books and removed a lot of the sentences. the first book is super super slow paced, the second book has unnecessary fillers as well. I really dont understand why the author would split up this type of book that is basically super mellow and boring. All in all it is a very religious book, which is not bad for some , but i would have preferred to have known before starting this series.
Break Me Down maintains that subtle rhythm we first got addicted to in Break My Fall. Picking up right where we left off in book 1, M. Mabie gives Myra the chance to truly shine. Sure, Abraham is going crazy not knowing what happened to her or why she suddenly disappeared after a family cook-out. But as the story progresses, it's like a whole new world has opened up for Myra and she doesn't waste a single minute on what doesn't feel right. Or who may or may not really want her.
Break Me Down's path is nothing like I thought would occur nor did I anticipate ever rooting for Myra the same way I did Abraham. But getting to watch another 'new' life open up for her, I was beyond proud of Myra for finally taking a stand and figuring out just what she wanted and needed. That may or may not include Abraham and I enjoyed being as anxious as he was at what the ultimate outcome might be for both of them. Would prior influences still separate them? Could they really leave their past forbidden lives behind? And where has she been? These are the questions that kept me on edge as I continued on.
It's honestly all up for grabs as both Myra and Abraham each have to contemplate the future in the most delicate of ways to see whether or not their journeys can meld as one.
We're left with yet another obstacle at the book's end and the next detour in their very bumpy road to happiness. I love the way the story has unfolded thus far and the ease in which Mabie's words flow almost effortlessly. She's taken what could have been just a simple story and gave it the right amount of complexity to keep it engaging.
Break Me Down is the perfect continuation to the Breaking Trilogy and I happily give it 5 solid stars!
Overall Rating :: 3 stars Series :: Book two of The Breaking trilogy. Hero/Heroine :: Abe/Myra POV :: Alternating. Cliffhanger :: Yes. HEA ::
:::
Ah, yes. The traditional second book filler for a trilogy. A bit of a bummer that, but it was still engaging. Not a whole lot happens here. Well, I mean, a lot of internal character growth for Myra, and as a couple with Abe, but it was pretty light on the drama, and overall plot development. There were also more grammatical and spelling errors littered throughout, much like the first book, but those type of things don't take me out of a story, necessarily. Just thought it should be mentioned. Regardless of all that, I'm still intrigued to continue on with the story. Bring it on, Lancaster!
So good!! This review is going to be short and sweet...I don’t want to give anything away since book one was a cliffhanger...and this one has a bit of a cliffy ending as well. I’ll simply say that this book was perfect and I can not wait for the finale of this trilogy!! I love Myra and Abraham!!
Entire book is about Myra growing, not the relationship so much.
This book is all about Myra. Which is NOT bad, but the author really put the slow in this slow burn. Do i understand Myra? YES. But i really feel like she could have talked to Abe. They were doing well, he wasn’t mistreating her. Did he not explain a few things? YES. But none of that was done maliciously. She acted like a victim. Like Abe was pulling one over on her. THAT got me irked. From Abe’s POV, when he explained things, YES i understand he should have mentioned them. Money, going to the Dr., etc. But it is a lot when she was still in “wife” mode and there was mutal attraction. But for her to run off with strangers she JUST met an hour prior, THAT is ridiculous. Running from the man that saved you? Instead of just confronting him. At least at the BBQ she could have voiced her issues. Abe TOLD HER it wasn’t a real marraige but when someone else said it she felt betrayed? That was all on her and i would have loved for her to accept more responsibility on that.
I'm so happy with the turn this book took! From the first page we see that Abe e Myra were in a path of discovery, of growth. Mo did a great job of portraying Myra's adjustments and Abe's difficulty in understanding his faith and believes. Can't wait to read the last book in this trilogy!
I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first book in the series. I’m not a huge fan of trilogies, and in my experience, the second book tends to be less fulfilling than the first and third books.
Myra was almost unrecognizable in this book. The girl almost did a complete 180 as she ventured into the real world -trying new clothing styles, getting her hair cut, and enrolling in a GED class. I was really surprised to read she’d bought a car and had a driver’s license. I assumed the patriarchal society she grew up in didn’t allow women such independence. A woman who can drive can drive away from the compound. (But I’ve digressed.)
Based on the Myra I knew from Book 1, I found it hard to believe she would leave her husband no matter how upset she was. Give him the cold shoulder and silent treatment? Yes. But leave her band holder to stay with his friends? No way. Up until the gathering at Chris’s house, Abraham was the only person willing to stand up for her and protect her interests. If not for Abraham agreeing to marry her, she would have been babysitting and scrubbing floors for her brother’s wife or married to a pervy man in his 60s. It made no sense that she wouldn’t just talk to him about whatever was bothering her. I wanted to watch Myra navigate the real world under Abraham’s gentle guidance, not the Griers. It was never their place to tell her Abe didn’t want her for a wife. They didn’t know how things had changed between them. Myra did, but she still shut him out and allowed them to plant seeds of doubt in her mind.
The separation spoiled the sexual tension and momentum that had already been built in the first book. On a positive note, I liked that Abraham and Myra took things slowly when it came to sexual exploration. And two thumbs up for the excellent conversation between them about the importance of consent even in marriage. 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
We got to know a lot about Abraham and who he was in the first book in this series, Break My Fall, partly because Myra had no idea who she was outside of the cult in which she’d been raised. In Break Me Down Myra’s growth arc is fantastic, she is incredibly strong and independent, especially considering her very questionable upbringing.
After the intense, heartrending tale that M. Mabie told in Break My Fall, it was good to see a little goodness in Break Me Down. At first, I was angry at Myra for running, but as the story went on, I understood she had to. She needed to find herself by herself. No matter how much Abraham tried to let her make her own choices, Myra would have been influenced by him because of the brainwashing she’d been through at the hands of the cult she’d been born into.
I think Abraham needed the time and space alone, too. I don’t think he would have trusted his feelings were anything but born of obligation had he not been forced to spend those weeks without her. Abraham is a good man, with amazing morals and a giant heart, but he would have always questioned his motivations about Myra and his love for her if things had gone any differently. For as much as I hated that they had to spend any time apart, it made their love stronger.
Break Me Down is the second book in M. Mabie’s Breaking series. These books are interconnected and must be read in order. Break Me Down is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Myra and Abraham.
Break Me Down is the he second book in the Breaking trilogy by Ms Mabie. At the end of book one, we are left with a cliffhanger, that the author delves into from the start. We find Abe at his wits end because Myra has taken off and he has absolutely no clue where she's at. Abe has sworn to protect and watch out for her, after she leaves the religious cult his father is the head of. Blaming himself for her disappearance he's relieved to find out she's been staying with another couple whose home shefledto. Myra overhears a conversation between Abe and Ted, and becomes panicked when she realizes everything she's ever believed in is a lie. What exactly are Abe's intentions for her?? Is this another man with his own personal agenda? Feeling confused and lied to, Myra begins to figure out she has to get control of her life, gain some independence and see if the marriage between her and Abe can go forward. Abe will not be denied, he fallen in love with the shy, and quite young woman, and he's determined to win her back, but he knows he has to tread carefully and win not only her love but especially her trust. I loved we got see the characters grow in this second installment, Myra taking charge of her life, and Abe realizing that Myra is truly the woman he wants to spend his life with. The shy and awkwardness between the couple was sweet, but the intense attraction between them grows the more they are together. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Abe continues to wreck my life with his thoughtfulness and I gladly let him.
Myra ran when she learnt the truth of her and Abe's relationship. Hurt and betrayed, she can't trust him ever again. But Abe is determined and his devotion for her is real. He'll do anything to convince her of their love. He'll bring her back and beg for forgiveness. Because she's always been and will be his girl.
So this book was a bit slow but towards the end the pace actually fit Abe and Myra's delicate relationship.
I can't even deal with Abe in this book. He is hurt, he is lonely and he is paying for a mistake he made with good intentions. But his respect and devotion for Myra never wavered. He gave her some time but then he went after her and did everything in his power to get her back, to apologize, to make his World right. I love this man so much. He is beyond unreal and I just want to protect him and give him all the happiness in the world.
I was sorta annoyed with Myra but mainly because I want her and Abe to be happy forever. She actually really grew as a person through the story and I'm pretty sure she is close to finding her identity and her path in life. She is a strong character and I just cannot wait to see what she does next.
With that tiny cliffhanger I am more than ever excited to see what happens to Abe and Myra. There are so many twists and turns waiting for these two. I AM EXCITE!!!!
4.5 Absolutely beautiful stars! Such a beautiful continuation filled with even more feels..... After the way Break My Fall ended, I had no idea what to expect in book 2, Break me down. All I know is that I was counting the days until I could get more Abe and Myra. This book did not disappoint. Abe tugged at my heart while Myra stole the show. I adored her before, but now I love this freaking woman! She grew exponentially throughout this book. After being lied to her whole life, she questioned everything including herself and especially Abe... By taking time for herself she gained strength, courage and independence. All the while Abe was realizing just what she meant to him.... Absence does make the heart grow fonder! Their relationship was rocking, unconventional and highly unlikey yet they had this magnetic pull towards each other. I loved their honesty and vulnerability. Abe believe or not was even more swoon worthy. This man wears his heart on his sleeve. His main priority was Myra's happiness, whether they were together or not. I had so many butterflies swarming throughout. Gahhhh I love just everything about Abe and Myra! Their journey has just begun... I am so excited and nervous to see where Mo will take them in the next book.
I also love how the whole series revolves around faith... "God put me in her life, and her in mine. I'd be forever grateful for it."
From the moment I laid eyes on her, she’d burrowed under my skin, threaded herself into every fiber.
I finally got around to reading the second book in this trilogy. It picks up pretty much where the first one left off and continues to follow Myra as she adjusts further to her new life outside of Lancaster. She’s grateful to Abe, in a way, but now that she knows the truth of the situation she left, she isn’t sure how much she should trust him. I enjoyed seeing Myra’s continued growth as she tried figuring out what’s next for her. She made a lot of great strides toward separating herself from the only world she’s ever known while she struggled with finding her place in this new world. Abe was his usual admirable self as he gave her the space he knew she needed, despite the fact that he wanted nothing more than to be by her side. One of the things I liked the most about him in the first book was that he was delicate with Myra on certain things but didn’t coddle her too much but I will say that aspect was missing from this book. I thought that Abe was almost a little too soft with her at times, but we’ll see how things go in the next book. In terms of action, there wasn’t a whole lot of it in this book but I think the cliffhanger at the end of this book is going to change that because it seems like Myra and Abe are headed back to Lancaster and it’s anyone’s guess how that’ll turn out!
Abe and Myra’s story has a special place in my heart, I sat and devoured this book in 2 hours because I am so invested in them. This book for me is about them both making mistakes and discovering themselves again. They date. They get to know each other and most importantly of all, they connect to each other because they want to.
Abe grows as a character, he learns to put Myra first in more than ways than I could have imagined. He finally lets her make her mistakes, make her own choices and find her way to her own happiness. She deserves that.
Myra, oh my gosh her character development is nothing short of amazing in my eyes. It’s interesting because she comes from a background where the men in her life are the only thing that will be her salvation. As a religious person, the cult thing at first in the first book made me wary but in the end the fact that this book shows that religion is not a bad thing, it just has to be portrayed as freedom of choice. Myra has every right to make her own choices and not have those choices dictated by others.
The ending was like ‘uh oh’, what now? I am intrigued to see how Mo ends this trilogy but what I know for sure, is that the growth and strength in Abe and Myra, will stay true and stay strong. I am excited to read more!
Damn, Abe and Myra have to be one of my favorite romance novel couples. They are just perfect together and really balance each other out.
I'm happier that this book has less religion than the first one did, although there is still some. A bit less drama than the first, as well, but no less suspenseful. And by suspenseful, I mean rapidly-reading-until-they-get-back-together-again. Only then will I be happy.
And this does end on another cliffhanger, but nothing like the one at the end of last book.
I couldn't read fast enough. I couldn't put the book down, wanting to read it as quickly as I could, but also savor it at the same time. You know the feeling I'm talking about. Where you're really anxious to find out what happens, but you know that if you read quickly, you'll have to say goodbye to the characters sooner than you want to.
I love that Myra really comes into herself in this book. She is getting along like any normal girl her age would. I'm proud of her and know that she can accomplish some great things.
Now there's only one book left in this trilogy, and it can't come soon enough. Come on, December! I want some more Myra and Abe!
Thank goodness M. Mabie picked up Break Me Down right where the first book in this trilogy ended because I was a mess. Much like Abraham worrying over Myra.
I think my favorite thing was seeing how much Myra grew. While there were a handful of moments where her behavior was childish, it was to be expected with the environment she grew up in. That being said, there was a lot thrown at her and some hard choices had to be made. She handled her situation, which was nothing less than messy, with grace and class.
This book was an achingly sweet slow burn. I loved how Abraham recognized the mistakes he made where Myra was concerned. How, even when his patience was beyond tested, he allowed things to go at her pace. It was what she needed and what he needed too. He needed her to want him. To need him. Love him.
Just as I was getting comfortable, and thinking things were going to be just fine, the other shoe dropped. I mean I knew it was coming. This is M. Mabie and only the second book of a trilogy but that little bomb is sure to cause a whole new set of problems for Myra and Abe. Gah! I need the finale!
Break Me Down is book two in the Breaking Trilogy and you must read them in order. Break Me Down picks up right where Break My Fall left off. I couldn't dive into this book fast enough. I devoured it just as fast. Abe and Myra have sucked me in and I love both their characters. Seeing Myra grow made me so happy. I have been rooting for her since book one and I can't wait to see her full transformation. Also, if you thought Abe made you swoon in Break My Fall, just wait. You will swoon, HARD. I don't want to give away too much but just know Mo brought it once again. I suspect I know where this story is going but with Mo you honestly never know. She is great at throwing curve-balls when you're expecting a fastball.
Break Me Down is the perfect mixture of slow burn and angst that will keep you sucked in and begging for more. This series is unique and I LOVE that. It's a breath of fresh air after reading so many of the books with pretty much the same troupe. If you've never read a M. Mabie book you're seriously missing out. Her writing will captivate you. She's a must read author. Run, don't walk, to buy this series.
After book 1, I thought about Myra and Abe a lot... like A LOT. I could not wait to get my hands on book 2. I wanted to know what had happened and what turn M Mabie was taking us on. With that being said, I am not totally sure where I stand on book 2- I am stuck between a 3 star read and a 4 star read and let me tell you why. I was a little disappointed to see the minimal turn the book took when I was expecting something EPIC with the previous books ending. To me this book took a complete 180 from the first book. This book had more of a feel good, flowers feel like the authors City Limits books which don't get me wrong I enjoy- I just felt like book 1 left me hoping for something a little different. Outside of all that, I REALLY enjoyed seeing Myra grow although, I can't tell if she is growing into her own or what other people are telling her to do, but its eye opening to watch a character transform before your eye. And Abe, Abe steals the show every time- I'm head over heals for him and will continue in this adventure to see how things turn out for him. Here's to being excited for a little more in the finale of this trilogy.
This was probably my favourite book out of the trilogy because it focused more on the heroine's state of mind after finding out she had been in a cult. Normally I hate it when authors split up their characters who were in a relationship for some weak reason only for them to get back together again, but in this book and situation it worked and I think it was needed. Again I thought this book was well paced and whilst I don't know how realistic it was with how quickly the heroine adjusted to the "normal" world, it never felt rushed in the writing.
Bit of a side note here: I saw some people in the reviews complain about the heroine because of the way she treated the hero and saying he was perfect and she should've been grateful instead of walking away. Full offence, some people's line of thinking really does disgust me. You just read a book about a woman who had no agency in her life, had the men in her life make all her decisions for her, then she finds out she was in a cult all along and her husband kept that information to himself, and your reaction is to complain that the heroine needed time away from everything and she made her oh so perfect guy worry? Good lord.
M. Mabie’s Break My Fall had me hooked. So I anxiously awaited Book 2 in The Breaking Trilogy because I just had to know what happened. Break Me Down gave me what I needed and left me eager for the conclusion to Myra & Abraham’s story.
Abraham’s feelings are evident. His realizations and determination make him even more beautiful. He’s still the kind and caring man and there are also subtle changes that I took notice of.
Myra’s fear and anxiety of the unknown is heartbreaking. But her growth and coming into her own is wonderful. She’s becoming a different woman than the one originally introduced.
The angst of the unknown had me flipping the pages quickly. The slow build of getting to know one another was perfect. Again there are outside elements that may or may not influence the outcome and roles. The ending left me on edge wondering what will come next and looking forward to Break the Faith coming in December.
