About the author

Johannes Menke is a German music theoretician, music educator and composer.

Born in 1972, he studied Oboe, music pedagogy, germanistics, music theory and composition in Freiburg im Breisgau.
2004 he graduated at the Technical University Berlin.
Between 1999 and 2009 he taught music theory and aural skills at the Musikhochschule Freiburg im Breisgau.
Since 2007 he has been a professor for the theory of Early Music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.

Between 2008 and 2012 he was the president of the "Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie (GMTH)" (society for music theory).
He is the co-publisher of the book-series "sinefonia" and the magazine "Musik & Ästhetik" and has several publications regarding a sundry of topics in music theory.
Together with Ludwig Holtmeier and Felix Diergarten he edited the "Partimenti" by Giovanni Paisiello and the "Übungen zur Satzlehre" by Georg Friedrich Händel.
