As My Mind Unwinds: 31 Day Devotional - Reflectional - Confessional Ride

Rate this book
It's edgy. It's bold. It hurts, but it's also encouraging. AND, it's posing as a devotional! Oh, you'll be devoted when you're done alright! Each chapter is a different take on something the author's mind has unwound about over the years as a Christian. She takes you on a journey as she reconciles those unwindings to Christ and who He is.

When answering the questions, please use a journal and really take some time. Pray, reflect, fight with God, scribble and repeat.

This is not your typical devotional, but it it were written in any other way, it wouldn't be right.

As we take a peak into the heart and mind of Jennifer Ervig, you can't help but relate to the thoughts, feelings, and stories she writes.

I feel like I really benefited from this book!

Sometimes the extra work was tedious but very worth it! The hard questions SOMEBODY has to ask really make you dig deeper and look into your heart and soul.

You know how in devotionals, often times the author will address a relatable problem and you'll get all excited, ready to remedy that thing in your life you just haven't found the answers to until now? And then they don't ACTUALLY give you the solution? Well that's not Jen.

I loved that she didn't just tell us about a problem, she also gave the solution and tips to help us when we're struggling with that problem.

She didn't say, "Christ died for you. Accept the Faith and live like you should."

(This is a poor example, I know.)

Instead she said, "Jesus loves you. He died for you because of that love. He wants you to have an amazing life and be happy, but not with what the world says will make you happy.

"Jesus wants you to live like Him because that's what is BEST for you and you'll most benefit from that way of life, with the reward of eternal, perfect life with Him" She then would go on to explain on how to live prosperously and fully in glory to Him.

I actually really love this book. You can feel Jen's fire for Christ through the pages!

She writes with humor, boldness, passion and beautiful honesty.

That's the kind of books I want to see more of in this fallen world!

Jen is an inspiring, motivational, beautiful, strong, vulnerable, woman of God. I was blessed by her and I hope you will be too.

"Broken things should be treated as if they're broken... with gentleness and the goal of restoration." - Jen Ervig.

As My Mind Unwinds by Jennifer Ervig is a 31 day devotional that can help you on your journey with God.
Each day has a new topic with introductory thoughts, scriptures, Jennifer Ervig’s take on the topic and questions designed for internal examination.
Jennifer Ervig writes in a very personable way. This devotional is accessible for all. The reader can certainly identify with some of her thoughts. She is honest, open and down to earth. Various topics are covered from the Holy Spirit to spiritual battles “A Christian soldier must always be ready”, to Bin Laden, the Japanese quake of 2011 to Joshua, tithing and God desiring a relationship with us. “He sees me, hears me, and knows me. All He asks is the same in return.” The whole book speaks a great deal of sense. It will aid your Christian walk.
Sometimes certain topics make us cringe. We get uncomfortable around the talk of money and Jennifer Ervig realises this and acknowledges it. I loved this quote on tithing:
“A poverty mentality says I can’t tithe. A rebellious mentality says I won’t tithe. A kingdom mentality says how can I not tithe? He’s been good to me. How can I give more?” – Dustin M Bates.
I think this is a very powerful devotional and just perfect for connect groups to work through or for personal devotions.
So what will I take away from this book? Love God and love people.
I will leave you with my favourite quote – simple but profound:
“Don’t tie His [God’s] hands by not having faith and not seeking Him.”
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

While I would not necessarily review a book with such strong Spiritual content for various reasons I felt as I read it, because of my own journey, that the messages and personal reflections inside of this 31 day devotional journal that it more than deserved to be heard by the masses. In an articulate and heartfelt manner this book provides encouragement, deep thoughts and a path to Salvation or the contemplation of it. This book is affecting to the core and is not to be taken lightly but delved into with concentration. In an openly honest way it inspires, convicts and causes many moments of pause to ponder on all that is written there.
-To The Author- Exceptional and motivating.

I absolutely love this book and recommend it to anyone going through a dark time in their life and or anxiety or anything stressful. Before I knew about this book and the author I was going through a dark time in my life and if it wasn’t for this book I’d still be in my dark time. I’m getting ready to do a stressful but exciting move across two states back to the south from living in the Midwest for the last 6 years and knowing god puts us through stressful events for a reason helps me emotionally so much. This book has changed my perspective on everything bad that has happened to me over these last 26 years of my life.

This is an amazing book! The author is real and asks very pointed questions that cause you to think and delve deep. She's funny, but serious when she needs to be. I highly recommend this book mainly because Jennifer is just so down to earth. It's like sitting with a great friend and talking about tough times. Great book!

Jen takes simple ideas and turns them into lessons. Reading this book is like a good friend giving you a kick up the butt when you're going nowhere fast! These are practical devotionals that dig deep into what the Bible is saying and really makes you think about what it means for your life. Am I really flourishing in the gifts God has given me or am I too busy trying to be good at everything? Am I allowing God to strengthen and shape me through my trials? Have I become entitled in my walk with God?
Plenty to chew over in every chapter!
