A Deadly Encounter... A vicious werewolf attack leaves Alex infected, confused, and suddenly surrounded by strangers who all claim they want to help her. All she has to do is decide who to trust.
A Dangerous Boy... Kael is infuriating. Arrogant. And entirely too hot for his own good. He also has secrets-- and a dark past that could turn her whole world upside down.
An Ancient Blood Pact... The only thing keeping the human population safe from the shifters and lycans is the pact. The pact that Alex's grandfather initiated. The one that only she can break.
An Impossible Choice... Breaking the pact means igniting war. Refusing to break it may mean losing the most important person in her life.
When the moment comes, on whose side will Alex stand? And how much will she be willing to sacrifice?
Is it lame to review your own book? Oh well. I never claimed I wasn't lame. Anyway, I've read this book about five hundred bajillion times and I still love it, so I think that means it deserves five stars :) But I might be biased. Check it out and see what you think!
This was really good! And free, so it's a double win!
Descendant was a classic paranormal romance, but I found the romance really sweet (and I look forward to more) and the characters were refreshing and funny. There were also some serious factors to this book that made me want to finish it in one session, not to mention the dramatic ending. I'll definitely continue the series!
Have I mentioned how I love the romance? Because I do ;)
Thanks to the author and amazon kindle for the free book, and I look forward to continuing this new series!
I tried. I stopped three times and two times I picked the kindle back up and carried on determined to not let another book beat me..... Alas I finally gave up and I'm sending this to the unfinished book graveyard.
Felt just a little too predictable and I just got bored.
There wasn't anything really new or shiny about it and I guess it's just not for me.
I wouldn't say there was anything terrible about the book.... It was just a little bland.
Goodness, this book is reality challenged. Not as in 'we are talking about werewolves', but more the 'let's have long drawn out and too loud conversations in the middle of bad guy territory while we are trying to escape'.
There is plenty of TSTL flying about in here too. A bit of it can be brushed off as '15yo girl', but given the situations she finds herself in... why is she not attempting to use her brain?
And the writing. I pet peeve of mine is when author don't thread things/characters thru properly, but just dump them in and forget them as needed. Well, ET is pro at this too. There's a scene a few chapters in where the lead blames a noise on their dog... who we haven't seen or heard about before... and don't see or hear about after this moment. And that's despite the fact that there are strangers on and off the property, and attacks and just general living going on. Then, actually from the same scene, the mum is Aomori night shift and has instructed the 13yo sister to call the cops if the 'other guys' come back while she's at work, and they do, so she does. The cops show up, and the lead, who is watching the little sister overnight decides it's best to run off with the other guys and leave the little sister alone with the cops at night so she can get some answers... Then, when she strolls back in a outlet of hours later, the cops are all 'no worries, we don't mind babysitting'. Bullshit. The mum was never called even tho it was her instructions to call the cops and they had a missing 16yo and a lone 13yo who had seen her carried off by people who had been harassing the family and had her mum worried?!?!?! YES, reality challenged.
Descendant was an easy read, fast paced, and entertaining. The charcters were well developed, and the plot was captivating. I could tell from the preveiw that I would like this book.
The book starts off with Alex traggically loseing her father. And while mourning for him, she is attacked by some beast. Alex is confused and suddenly surrounded by strangers that claim to protect her. From what? READ THE BOOK :) As the story goes on it gets weird and twisted because Alex really can't trust anyone....
Kael: He is the drool-worthy hottie with an oh-so-secret past that will leave you guessing till the end. I really liked his character...well most of the time. ( I'll let you figure the rest by yourself)
Alex: She is a headstrong, determined, and sometimes a very reckless gal. She was likeable and not too emotional. I think Eva Truesdale did an excelent job developing her character.
This book was worth my time, so I hope you get the chance to check it out at you local library.
I love all books paranormal, but I'm usually skeptical of new vampire or werewolf books because they are becoming overdone. Descendant rocks, though!! The dialogue was natural and awesome, the girl didn't allow herself to become some love-sick robot over the boy, and the plot was somewhat unique. The characters are well crafted and believable so by the end your really rooting for them. There were several typos, but not nearly as distracting as others I've seen. You're reading so quickly you almost don't notice a word is missing here or there. This is a good book, good price, and a quick, very enjoyable read that still has me thinking about it days later, desperately wishing Icould find a time schedule for the next one. I really, really liked this book and want to know when the sequel will be out - dying to know what happens next.
An enjoyable quick read :)! I would say i can't wait to read book #2, but there isn't one. There is no news of the series nor from the author. Rumor has it that, sadly, Miss Truesdale has passed away. :(
I was really surprised by this book, despite the book not having any romance in it at all it was really good. I stayed up late to finish the book and didn't get to sleep till 4 in the morning, that's how much I was into this book. I just hope that the second book will be just as good as the first.
The characters are great, I don't see any flaw with them. Alex our main heroine is such a strong character, she doesn't let anything bother her. She's strong and knows how to deal with things on her own, not wanting to except help unless she really needs too. She would do anything for her sister and mother and that means to become something she never expect was real. Instead of taking the cure to stop her from becoming a werewolf she embraces the werewolf inside her so that she can help protect her family instead of being protected by someone else. Kael is sexy but that's beside the point, he's hard to get along with and he loves to be a smart ass and talks back to people. He's mostly a loner but does stay around his pack not leaving. Despite his bad personalty he does protect Alex and sometimes he's nice to her but other times he pushes her away. As for the side characters, they all do their parts well I love each of the side characters though I do fine Eli strange because he's describe as young but acts much older which I find so interesting.
There is no romance in this book but you did see some chemistry between Alex and Kael. You see how they love to annoy each other and how they love to get under each others skin. I just hope they get together in the next book and actually have some kissing scenes, that is if they can stop annoying each other long enough to get that far hehe.
The plot for this story is interesting and Alex is the center around the whole story. What makes this different from most werewolf books is that there is also lycans in this novel. lycans and Werewolves aren't the same, the difference is that lycans can't harm humans and they can't turn people into Werewolves. Werewolves can harm humans and can turn humans into Werewolves. The reason for this is that there was a curse put onto Lycans so that they couldn't hurt humans no more. The werewolves were created by by a lycan which you will learn more about in the book.
I do love this series and I'm excited to read the next book which is coming out in the spring. I do suggest for everyone to pick this book up when you have the chance, it's only .99cents on amazon.
This was amazing! One of the best books I've ever read! Reckless Alex was a very lovable protagonist, and Moody Kael was charming in his own special way. It wasn't cheesy at all, and I loved the hot-one-moment-cold-the-next Kael a lot. I loved their arguments, especially because they had actually started to enjoy it. At places, it was funny, and at other places it was jaw-dropping. The story was great and thoughtful, but what I really loved the most was the relationship between Alex and Kael. It was complicated, and I found it very interesting and different. And I read it nonstop for two days. This only happens with books I cannot put down, or in my case, ebooks that I can't close. I can't wait for more of Kael and Alex and more of lycan action in the second book. I wish they share their first kiss in the second book, and Kael would tell her how he feels about her, which he had failed to complete in the woods in Descendant. I really hope Syndrome releases in 2012, and most prefereably in the coming month! Eva Treusdale, you are one of my most favourite authors right now, and will be forever!
This wasn't too bad. It falls somewhere in the middle for me. A lot of what happened was pretty obvious. Alex seemed unnecessarily stubborn at times. Really, she could just listen to people sometimes. I don't blame her for being frustrated with not knowing what was going on. There were a ton of secrets. Still, she was entirely too reckless at times. She really didn't need to go running off on her own so damned often.
And I'll be surprised if what I'm certain what happened with Lora doesn't turn out to be the case. The whole time she'd been taken, I was pretty sure of what the outcome would be.
I hope she realizes that what Vanessa says about Kael's feelings for her are true.He can be snappish, but he's pretty obvious to me. Really girl, come to your senses.
All in all, I did like the book and I'll continue the series to see how things play out. The book could have used a little more editing, though. There were a few misused words and at times, words missing from a sentence or in the wrong place.
Eva Truesdale has great writing style. It was hard for me to put Descendant down because I had to know what was going to happen next! The story was great even though Alex was a little immature (but she's only 16 so I really can't complain). I will definitely read more but I would love to see something between Kael and Alex! ;)
even though it had quite a few typos... i love the story can't wait till the second on comes out id love to find out what becomes of the lycans and where lora's gone (:
First off, this book was amazing, I really liked the characters and the plot was good too, but just that seconds of hesitation for me to give this book 5 star was enough for me to think that there was something missing... Just I don't really know what.
I really liked Alex even though at times I felt that she was a little too stubborn, but she was nice and honest and she was loyal to those she loved, and she wasn't this perfect girl with everything right in her life, she had her faults and problems and this made her even more interesting easier to connect with...And Kael, no, I still don't know how to pronounce his name properly and yes, with his short temper- were he real- he might kill me for it, but he was nice- sort of- and kind and hot underneath all that hardness and he was always trying to do the right thing, which is good. Yes, I liked both these characters but they never even kissed once, and I think that they really deserved to have something nice , yeah, something nice.
Something else kinda bugged me too, so, I got this page and Kael decided he should 'drug' Alex somewhere. I did work out that is meant he dragged her somewhere, and that he didn't actually drug Alex, and no, it wasn't a typo as it happened a couple of times. Other than that, no other complaints. The bad guys were evil, the good guys were well... good... at times and it was a good book. **** (4 stars)
I did not think highly of this book. So much inconsistency. I you;don't stand it. Plot holes galore and the details...goodness, the details. My brain is the type that notices simple details (not all) and follows it. If the scene says (for example) a character got up and opened a door, I'm following along. When the next paragraph says he/she reached to open the door, I'm super frustrated. Details are so important and must stay consistent! It completely ruins it for me and then I lose faith that the author has put enough thought into the entire story. In this book, a big problem were the injuries that occurred. In the beginning, her arm is supposedly sliced through almost completely and yet it heals in a matter of minutes. Give her a bump on the head and she's somehow still groggy come the next morning. At the end, Kael is shot and then it's never mentioned agin and he can fight completely fine. Drives my nuts!! On top of all of that, Alex is super annoying, can't seem to be nice to anyone, and is ridiculously impulsive (but is somehow considered brave). She is not likable and I would never seek out her friendship in real life. There is no reason given for Kael to be interested in her.
Books like Descendant make me want to live in that kind of supernatural world. If Kael was real...let's say I would spend my time finding him. Although he's always bickering Alex and teases her, he's such a sweetheart (and that's such a girly thing to say).
He has a dark past on his own, but he focuses on Alex and her well being. Strong, a bit arrogant, confident, thoughtful...a perfect man. Alex is quite the same, and she hates being the damsel in distress, but her knight is Kael, so who could complain about that? I wouldn't for sure.
He helps her with her first shift and explains what she is. When her sister Lora is taken, they both take their time searching for her. Sera, their enemy, has her eyes set on Alex, attacking her several times. At some points, I thought she was just jealous Alex has Kael.
If you like a lot of suspense, supernatural things, action and romance, I'm sure you'll enjoy reading it.
Okay so this book for me is more like 3.5 stars and a series that I expect will get better with each edition. The story revolves around Alex, who is still coming to terms with the recent death of her father, when her world spins out of control. I will try not to give to much away here but the only reason for the lower rating on this one was due to the safe direction Ms Truesdale took when the alternative would have made for fantastic reading- Alex is at one point faced with a choice, I would have loved to see her actual make it and deal with the consequences. Alex of course has a love interest even if she is willfully ignorant of him and Ms Truesdale has definitely started them off with just enough sizzle between. Although the supporting characters lack a little dimension it does draw away from the story.
Thoroughly enjoyable read....... Just waiting for the next in the series now.
Rakastin kirjaa.
Alexandra thought her life couldn't get much worse; her dad had died in a death ruled drowning and her strained relationship with her mom only got tougher as everyone is dealing with death.
But, that isn't the half of it...This is the first in a lycan, werewolf series and I have to say I enjoyed it. The Kindle edition had several typos but the story line is great.
The cast of characters are numerous but fortunately you only have to stick with a hand full of main ones like Alexandra and Kael...
The abrubt ending will leave you ready to immediately devour the next; so with that I have to say I can't wait.
Alex's father dies, Alex herself is then attacked by a werewolf and told by some lycans (apparently not the same thing) that the werewolves killed her father and now she is going to become one of them. She decides that's pretty cool. And all of a sudden she is super important to this big war between lycans and werewolves...and her mother hates her.
Yeah I felt like the book was just as disjointed as my above thoughts. All of he characters were annoying, nothing was ever explained despite the fact that they all talked too much. A short and extremely frustrating read.
I actually really liked this book, and even though its been a couple of days I can't get it out of my head! The main character did act a bit annoying at times, constantly asking questions and not seeming to come to any conclusions with herself, but I still really liked this book. I hope that they author is alright even though she is MIA, and i would gladly own this book if I can ever find a copy for myself...
So I've found a new series I LOVE!!! who are the good guys, who's the bad guys? So many twists and turns and developments! I like Alex, I really like venessa and will and I am extremely intrigued by kael! So now somebody tell when I can get my sticky paws on the next one! Oh oh and who knew, it's usually vampire vs werewolf not werewolf vs shifter! I love love that too! :)
This book was not bad at all. It is different from the werewolf books I have been reading so it was refreshing. Got to focus when reading this book though or you might get confused, I'm still a little confused to be honest. It had a good amount of action, and did not beat around the bush. The book gets started right away .. I want to continue reading the series.
It was good. It had a different take on werewolves and Lycans. I liked Kael and Alex's banter. You could tell feelings were developing. I was disappointed with the lack of Romance. Will definitely read the next book. Hopefully it will have the romance aspect that was missing from the first book. Good read.
This book was very interesting. It was Kim of weird that Alex didn't freak out when she sees people run at freakish speed and she accepted a little bit too fast but you know, she was still sane. I want to see the next book. I want to see what happen between Alex and Kael. I NEED to know!! There haven't been anything between them yet!
I would have given this book four stars, but it leaves it unfinished at the end, so you need to read on for any type of conclusion, which would be fine but there's no second book being released! So im warning you now before you read, the books okay but there's still a lot of unanswered questions and no second book to answer them. Had i known this before hand i would never have read it!
This is a normal werewolf YA paranormal book. It was okay, but not the greatest. The main character has personality, which is fun. It was better than a lot of kindle-unlimited books I have been reading recently. It is really on the ledge of whether I want to continue the series or not. Guess we will see.
i really liked the book....a lot then i fugured out that the author die before the 2 book could be released and my brain is just realling with questions, is there going to be a second book?, whats going to happen 2 the series?, and man did i menyion this sucks? r.i.p eva truesdale :(
This is one one my favorite books. The setting of how the pack all lives together in harmony(at least, until the antagonists show up) does a lot for the story and makes them feel like family. I totally recommend this to anyone that is skeptical! I can't wait for book two!
Omg!! This was soo awesomely awesome!! I absolutely loved this book!! It was like an amazing roller coaster ride. I'm sad that there won't be a sequel but I've heard something's happened to the author and I just hope she's alright!!
