Who would have thought that I, Scarlet Jones, the first ever Storm witch of the world, would one day work for the ECU? I sure as hell didn't, but here we are.
When Jane Dunham came to the monastery to look for her sister Elisa, she had a parting gift for us: a horde of demons who came into our home and killed without mercy. It put an end to our illusion of safety pretty quickly.
On that same night, my father came to see me. I was ready to start running on all fours from him, but then he offered me a deal: If I agreed to work with the ECU and help them hunt and kill demons, they were going to give me what I wanted the most: they would set my people free. A no-brainer. I said yes.
Before I knew it, I had an office, a team of five, a Captain I'd officially named "Asshole", and unlimited resources to hunt down demons, while the rest of the Storm witches were finally free to live as they deserved.
The dream life, right?
Could have been, but mistakes of the past always find a way to come back and bite you in the ass. Mine are about to cost me much more than I could have ever imagined.
D.N. Hoxa is one of my favorite authors, and her Scarlet Jones series, of which Storm Secrets is the fourth book, Shows why. This is an amazingly exciting and fun book. Picking up from the third book (and yes, you do really need to read these books in order - though they’re so much fun it’s not any hardship), our eponymous heroine to her shock finds herself working for the ECU (though not actually explained in this book, that’s the Executive Control Unit, effectively a not so nice government for vampires, witches and everything else that goes bump in the night). Her job? Hunt down and kill demons, and in return she and her fellow storm witches will be free at least. An easy deal to take, but a tough one to follow. Don’t worry though, as if never bet against Scarlet. Frankly, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed, I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
Secrets everywhere in this book! It was such a rush of action, drama, adventure and mystery! I love Scarlett Jones and how she is so fierce and loyal to those she calls family. There is a bit of a start of another connection Scarlett makes with her captain and with Ax behaving a bit childish, I honestly can't see which way this will go. The book is a cliffhanger but it was so good and I can't wait for the next book!
I spent much of this book mentally speechless. I could not believe the direction it was going and then THE ENDING was a mindfu**. I know Scarlet is in her early twenties so she's an adult but she never gets a break and wth live interests plural? I'm not sure who to ship or if I should ship an rh.
Now the series is getting interesting the twist and turns are great and the secrets that are revealed just outstanding cant wait to read the next book in this series i recommend it to anyone who has never read it
This series gets better with every release. Everything seems to happen quickly in this volume. New characters are introduced and we come to know them through their experiences. Well done Hoxa.
Holy Angst Batman! You could feel the desperation coming off Scarlet in waves in this book. Gah, that ending is going to make me insane before I get the next book downloaded. Bravo! I feel like an addict at this point, give me the books now lol
And what is the green eyes man up to now? And why does he torment Scarlet when she takes him up on his offer of assistance? Some questions have yet to be answered, but it's still a great yarn!
Ok there are so many twists and turns it’s crazy in this book. But oh so good. I really like wilder btw! He seems way more fit for someone In this book!!
I think this is one of the best books in the series so far. Since Scarlet and others like her are a new breed of witch they don’t have any spells. Scarlet is trying to find the spellmaker, that was introduced in the winter Wayne series. Now she is going to go work for the GCU in order to keep her kind safe. The team that she is assigned to has killed quite a few demons and she has been caused a lot of pain but now she has been asked to steal something to save her other storm witch friends. I will be reading the next book in the series.
