Two men.

Harbor "the Viking" Rourke is known for being a badass inside and outside the cage. His life revolves around working to win the MMA Middleweight championship title, riding his Harley, and making his family proud. He doesn't have time for relationships until one anonymous hook-up has him questioning his choices and making the list of things he cares about a whole lot longer.

One shot at a championship title.

Life hasn’t been easy on Theo Smith. He's used to standing on his own two feet and jumping without a safety net. The crowning achievement of his self-built fitness and MMA empire would be wrapping the MMA Middleweight title belt around his waist. When a shot at the championship falls in his lap, he's thrilled, but shocked to find that for the first time there might be something in his life more important than getting ahead.

For either man to claim the title, they’ll have to take down the one that’s already won their heart.

This was low angst and really sweet. Not toothache sweet, but just enough. There were opportunities the author could have taken to add the kind of unnecessary drama I hate, but she didn’t. You gotta appreciate that sometimes.

Harbor and Theo are a great couple. Their relationship started out unconventionally but so freaking hot. Neither can forget the other. I loved their text messages back and forth.

I’m looking forward to more in this series.

I’m kind of digging Michelle Frost’s Open Wounds series. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it is sexy and sweet. 3.5 stars rounded up.

Take Down begins with our two leads getting down. The hot and heavy hook-up between aspiring MMA fighters Harbor and Theo was supposed to be meaningless, but it stirred them deeply and persisted in their memories. When the two men are reunited in the ring, they find that they can’t stay away outside it.

Take Down featured more steam than its predecessor, and the feelings between Harbor and Theo spanned wariness to fierce want. Initially I was slower to warm to their dynamic, but as the story progressed, the sweetness and sense of fun convinced me. And the delicious possessiveness was delicious. That said, the author teased then dropped a few plot threads, such as Harbor's first experience with a man and fear of bottoming and the "stalking". While I appreciate keeping angst low and light, they felt like missed opportunities for further character development and enhancing the story.

Look, I know that I’m supposed to root for Rory and Magnus and Vidar and Niko but I found my insane self wanting Rory and Vidar to ditch the drama and run off together again and be together when they came back. We don’t know what exactly happened between Magnus and Rory but I have my suspicions and I'm siding with Rory because I ADORE Rory. His love and longing for Magnus are palpable yet the bar owner seems irritatingly unaffected by him in the present and clearly broke his heart in the past and Rory will have to bear the videographic evidence for the rest of their lives. But even as I sit here complaining, I have little doubt that I will read their story.

One pairing I am excited to read more about? Kayla and Amanda. Don’t think that I didn’t notice that they both disappeared at the same time 😉

I can recommend this series to friends looking for fun and above average Kindle Unlimited faire.

A sweet low angst MMA storyline... this was a great follow up from book 2 and I’ll certainly continue with the series as it develops. There’s lots of love to go around !

I loved TAKE DOWN and I was pulled right into the story. The chemistry between Theo and Harbor was great and I loved watching them reconnect after their one night stand.

I really liked both the MCs and enjoyed the differences they each brought to the relationship. Harbor was highly focused, dedicated, and a bit gruff. Theo, on the other hand, was boisterous and outgoing, and he's built his MMA and fitness career from the ground up.

As Theo and Harbor's relationship got more and more serious, I was biting my nails waiting for the inevitable breakup, but it never came! I loved how these guys talked and were open and worked things out even through their occasionally long distance relationship.

There was also plenty of the Rourke family and I loved how they welcomed Theo easily into the family.

Content Warning: Theo was abandoned as a baby and went through foster care; brief mentions of losing a loved one; allusions to a new side character being in a "bad situation" and needing to be rescued

A lesson in consumerism

Perfectly set up in a way to reduce unnecessary angst. Makes you root for the sexy AF main characters while introducing secondary characters that make you curious enough to purchase the fourth book. Colour me capitalist. On to Book 3.

Reread August 2019
With book 4 due out in a week I’m enjoying my Reread of this series.

Original Review
This was a solid 4 star sequel. With a much better storyline and fleshed out romance than the first one and just the right amount of low-angst and sweetness, this sucked me in. What I didn't like was the so-obvious-it's-annoying setting up of the next couple of books, but you tend to get that a lot these days. Either way I'm enjoying this series and look forward to the next one.

What a great read! It was sweet without killing my teeth and there really was no angst with the MCs. There were points to where the author could have made issues but it was all handled with communication and making sure they were in it TOGETHER!

Favourite Book of the Series Alert!

Man, I just loved Habor and Theo. Their chemistry was off the charts and I'm not even talking about the steamy side. You could feel the connection these men had with each other and the flawless way they moved from acquaintances/lovers to people who genuinely cared for each other.

I had a smile on my face whenever they both appeared on page and rooted for them right till the very end. This story hit the spot for my current mood and I wish it just went on and on.

There were hints about the next couple of books with Vidar's moods and Rory's swinging attitude when a certain someone was present. I for one, can not wait!!

This book was H.O.T.

I am really impressed how the author gives us such great stories but doesn’t incorporate too much unnecessary drama and angst. This book was wonderful, had just the right amount of conflict with some sweet and emotion driven scenes mixed in. So far in each of the books we get some sexy and strong characters, not just physically strong either, overall they are just really solid guys inside and out. I have been dying to get my hands on more of this series since the first book came out, and was not disappointed with the storyline we are given in this book.

In this book we get two MMA fighters Harbor and Theo who ultimately end up being pit against each other in the same championship fight. I loved how they met, not knowing who the other man was and being completely surprised when they bump back into each other. Both men just want something simple and no strings starting out. But when they get thrown back into contact with each other they just can’t seem to fight the connection, attraction and chemistry they have for each other, even when they are physically fighting each other. Harbor is really funny, I enjoyed his character and personality. I had a lot of fun reading all the snarky comments and conversations the two men had with each other. Harbor doesn’t do social media, but made a profile just to harass Theo, lol, which gives Theo the opening he needs to get under Harbors skin. OMG, and at the end I totally thought the author would leave us hanging on who actually won the fight, but thank god we get to find out what happens and how it ends. These two men are super sexy together. I really liked this book just as much as the first one and cannot wait for book three. This family and their series of books just keeps getting better and I really want to know who the others end up with.

Muszę przyznać, że chłopaki z klatki były absolutnie urocze 😁

Another win!

This was light on the angst, although I was expecting some epic angst but it turned out well that it was light in angst actually.

I typically roll my eyes when a book opens up with a hookup happening between the two main MCs but I think I can grudgingly say this hookup trope was done well. I wouldn’t say done right because I still think it’s cliche as hell but...this was alright 🧐

I did not see this pairing coming but it was sweet! I wish the books were longer because it does have a good plot and good execution. I think if it was fleshed out a bit more, it could push it from just being good to being awesome.

Now I’m convinced that Vidar and Niko’s book is next. It’s being teased since the first book and I can’t. Wait. For. It. Please!!

This was better than the first book but still didn't totally engage me. I found some of the premise (like the lack of social media for a rising MMA star) to be unbelievable as well as the outcome of their rising ranks and outing. The big Vidar/Rourk mystery was weird too.

Enjoyed a bit more than the first, as this one had two dominant characters. Wish the actual fight wasn't skimmed over, as there was a lot of build up to it. Still love learning about this crazy family and cannot wait to dive into the next book.

Don't get intimidated by the badass cover. Sure it's a gorgeous cover, and Harbor is that beautiful. No wonder Theo can't get enough of him! The guy in the cover tho? It's all Harbor!
Started as usual hookup place and found out that Theo is an instagram celebrity and a fighter, Harbor fought himself not to get involve with him. But their chemistry said otherwise, and they can't fight the feeling of wanting each other, like all the time.
I was glad that even though this is a story about fighters, this book didn't lack of romance, and the fights didn't overshadowed the romance. Which, I was glad.
I enjoyed Theo and Harbor, their romance, the sex, the fights, and the love among the brothers.
Theo and Harbor are adorable and sweet together. Can you imagine two badass fighters went all chummy, chummy to each other? That made me aww-ing all the time.
Check out this series, this is probably the series you're looking for.

...and about Rory and Magnus....can you write faster, author?

This one was okay. The first book in this series, even with it's way to young MC's, was better IMO.
I adored Harbor but didn't really gel with Theo. I don't know. I just felt that he wasn't a great match for Harbor. I didn't like them together, I suppose.
Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and continue this series. At least with the next book. We finally get Rory and Magnus' story. I really am ready to find out what all that drama is about. I just hope it's uber angsty for the sake of angst. I guess we'll see.

Each book in this series just gets more intriguing for the next couple.

Harbor and Theo are an amazing couple. From supporting each other to learning from each other. Not only do they break down their walls and let each other in but communication between these teo is rarely seen in books.

I am intrigues to see where the Rory & Magnus, Niko & Vidar and maybe even hopefully Luca and Alex will get stories.

Oh yeah..I just powered through Michelle Frost's Carry and Drag and Take Down (Open Wounds #1/#2 KU) and I am totally digging these reads....Well written, relatively short stories....sexy hot, sweet, MMA gym, tattoo shop, family of brothers, a little action and hot dayum..all great stuff....One additional thing I loved is that book 2 starts exactly where book 1 ends but with a new couple... I'm dying to read Magnus and Rory's story and then Vi and Niko's after that!!

Harbor and Theo's story was sweet, steamy, and oh so good. I really loved how these two built each other up and encouraged each other, even when they were fighting against each other.

I am really interested in seeing what is going on between Rory and Magnus. The sparks and tension has been there since the first book and I just need to know their story

Michelle Frost has made me a stalker!! After I read her first book, Carry & Drag I could not wait for Take Down. I literally stalked the poor woman for a release date! Needless to say, I fell hard for all the characters in her Open Wounds series. Each guy has such a hulking presence and titillating story behind him. Dagen & Ollie's story was endearing and fun! I could not get enough of them....

I met Harbor Rourke in Carry & Drag. He is one of Dagen's brutish brothers. I found his aloofness rather intriguing and could not wait to see beneath his shell. His entire life revolves around MMA fighting and his family, plus an occasional hook up. He's a "one time" type of guy. Finding there is no need to get close to anyone. Who is going to be able to snag this guy? It would have to be someone perfect. Well, Theo Smith is far from perfect, but he just might be perfect for Harbor. He's also a fighter and a social media sensation. Theo's life has not been easy. It has had made him untrusting and closed off... Could these two guys break through each others walls??

From their first hook up they felt a spark and it only continued to grow. They may have tried to deny it, but it was evident. They could not stay away from each other. (Oh my lord the heat between these two!) I honestly fell in love with them rather quickly. They had an extraordinary connection and mutual respest. They may have been lovers first, which immediately morphed into a friendship with benefits... But those damn feelings started creeping in. They were just two great guys trying figure it out. Their story revolved around them both going for the the middleweight champship in the MMA. I really enjoyed the fighting aspect of the book, but it wasn't the main focus. The main focus was on them and the people around them. Getting more of The Rourke Crew was such a treat. Getting deeper into who they are and their individual stories left me yearning for more. I am beyond excited for Mangus & Rory's book. I can already see loads of drama!

Michelle paced Take Down perfectly. Her balance between romance and heat kept me totally invested and flipping pages. Proving once again this lady can write!

I wanted to know more about Harbor Rourke after meeting him in the first book in the series, Carry and Drag. I’ve got a thing for big tough men who are kind of walled and off and hard to get to know and Harbor here is the perfect example.

The first chapter jumps in in a really great place and you’ve got to read it to see why. There’s so much emotion between Harbor and Theo and it just felt so real the way their attraction grew throughout the story as their relationship developed. I adored their texts to each other and found myself grinning inanely at times, and when they were intimate, boy was it hot! I could picture their bodies and the way the author relayed their feelings, and their care and nurturing of each other was sublime. I want to say it was a pure and sweet coming together, but it was way more than that, they were so well suited and just came at the right point in each other’s lives and just fell head over heels. It’ not to say it was without problems though, there’s stuff from Theo’s past rearing its head, a championship ahead which could affect both men and all the while they’re coming to terms with having someone important in their life for the very first time.

Family plays such an important part here, and there's a lot happening with other members of the Rourke family, what's happening with Rory and Magnus? And Vidar and Niko? And will Theo's friend Alex have a story? I can't wait for the next instalment in the series. This book was an absolute treat and I expected to like it as it ticked a lot of boxes for me like being set in the MMA world, a tattoo shop, it showed the importance of family and was centred around two tough alpha males with soft centres, but I didn’t just like it, I loved it.

Take Down is the second book in the Open Wounds series by Michelle Frost.

It's an entertaining and fun romance between two MMA fighters, Habor and Theo. They had a hot hook-up back when they both didn't know who the other was. It was Harbor's first time with a man, despite knowing he's bisexual, and he definitely enjoyed it.

When they meet up again, the chemistry is still strong, and soon they end up dating and planning for a future together. They didn't plan on having to fight each other though. I found the sparring scene to be beautiful, as it was so darn emotional!

Theo and Harbor are very sweet together, offering each other tenderness, caring and love that they've never had before. Their love is strong and all-consuming, leaving the reader swooning. The trust they have in each other is wonderful.

The story contains an emotional and intense romance, between two powerful and strong men. The writing flows great, the character development is well done and the side characters are great.

I definitely recommend Take Down and look forward to seeing what Michelle Frost comes up with next for this series.

Thoroughly enjoyed this

Being an avid reader it’s often difficult to find a book that’s “just right”. Well this one is perfect! Super hotness, totally relatable, some seriously bad ass heroes, I enjoyed getting to know the Roarke clan and now am gonna backtrack to read Michelle’s first book. So glad I stumbled upon this in a Facebook group! ♥️

This is book 2. I’m loving this series.
Theo and Harbor are both MMA fighters and commitment-phobic
This is a story about them both breaking through barriers and finding love. It was a hot story!

Both Harbor and Theo have lived for the fight. Sweat, blood, fear...none of that is going to hold them back from taking the title; but maybe love will. More than possibly facing one another in the cage, they'll have to fight through their own personal setbacks and reservations to win the future they want most.

There was so much maturity and heart from the Bad A viking that has been all caged predator, lethal intent, and fire up to this point. His loyalty to family is stellar but when we get to see the sweeter, lighter, tender side of him as his feelings for Theo grow, it's truly stunning. The soft feels were honestly perfection. They contrasted perfectly with the hard-edged fighter we've come to know thus far. Theo was wonderful, but it was Harbor that stole the show and my heart in this story.

Theo was a good match for Harbor but I felt that there was something different about him in terms of character depth. While Harbor dug deep, Theo was a little on the just-beneath-the-surface side. He had no less of a complicated past that held him back in some things but I wasn't as drawn in. His fun and playful side was ideal to bring out those same things in Harbor though.

I actually expected more drama but it was the reactions to the drama that had me pleasantly surprised. Between Harbor's reaction to the drama created by Theo's past coming out to threaten his future to the outcome of their title match, everything was resolved nicely. And I mean nicely, like the fight organizers were nice about the situation, Theo and Harbor were nice to one another, other fighters were nice and said nice things...just so much nice that I felt conflicted. I truly appreciated the nice reactions, those were great. But I also felt that it packed less punch...literally and figuratively.

Speaking of literal punches, I really wish that the "most electrifying fight" was given page time. So much build-up and then it was overlooked in favor of getting to the happy ending. What bothers me the most was how Harbor's "take down" had gone. It was a predictable outcome that felt like a cop out and not really true to the characters' abilities. Add that to not getting to "witness" the fight at all and I'm very unsatisfied. Also, I wished that Harbor's end of the bet was given freely instead of as fulfilling the terms. Oh, and that that scene should have been added...it would have been really hot I bet, but we didn't get to see it at all.

The drama with the other couples is ramping up like crazy and while I don't know who will get their story next, it doesn't actually matter because I'll be reading each and every story in this series. When you combine hot, tattooed, fierce, loyal, brooding fighters and the men that challenge, support, and love them with cage fights, drama, and seriously hot intimate couplings in the way Michelle Frost does, you've got a fan for life in me.

Another spectacular read from a great M/M writer. When I first read Open Wounds book 1, I was hooked. Take Down is no different. I believe you could read as a standalone, but to build a better picture I would suggest you read in order. You will want to anyways, it’s so good.

Harbour, triple yummy in the MMA. He’s not the settling down type or so he has convinced himself. He has a stream of one night stands, or maybe that is even to long. It’s more a hook up, release and walk away. Great to read about, but sad to think this is how he lives his life. Surely everyone would love to have that one special person in their life.

Theo, just as handsome, and also in the MMA. Theo has lived a complete opposite life to Harbour. Where Harbour has had family, love and support around him. Theo hasn’t been so lucky.

Harbour and Theo’s paths crossed on a night out. Both attracted to the other, and clearly feel the need to share some fluids. Nice way to say they got down and dirty. After having such an orgasmic experience Theo is left a little shell shocked when Harbour can just walk away so easily.

Both fighters being in the MMA are bound to bump into each other. Maybe sooner than you think. Theo is about to walk into Harbour’s territory much to Harbour’s disgust. Me thinks someone needs to be taken down. HA!! Anything is possible, right?

Theo has a lot going on in his life, and absolutely no one to share it with. It’s heartbreaking to think he has no one to turn to. Maybe Harbour can become that man. I know I was hoping so throughout this story.

If you love reading about MMA fighters, and of course love the art of Tattoo’s especially on a huge muscular body, and Gay Romance then this book right here is for you.
