PIB agents Abigail Collins and Nick Averin are rattled when a handful of severed thumbs are found at an abandoned house, but neither of them expected it to link to a decades old murder with strange ties to the paranormal world. When Abby’s greatest enemy seems to be helping her from afar, it’s clear that there’s more to this case than the duo first believed.
Past cases come back to life…
Levi is avoiding questions and being even more vague than normal when a new vampire comes to town claiming to be on the case involving blood starved vampires. It’s a fight against time and lies for the two agents.
A.L. Kessler is an author of paranormal and urban fantasy books and is best known for her “Here Witchy Witchy” series. A self-proclaimed coffee addict, she resides in Colorado Springs with her family and menagerie of animals. When she’s not writing her next book, she loves to read and visit with friends and family.
By the end of this book I found more questions than answers. Even though cases are closed and suspects arrested, I am still left with no understanding of the bigger picture, who she can trust etc. Simon as a side character has bowed out to focus on the pack. This book focuses on the investigation. The supernatural world building continues. You end with another piece in the puzzle. I definitely want to go on to the next book. This is an urban fantasy series. I would not consider this a cliffhanger. Instead it continues building clues to the mystery in the overall story arc. The book was engaging. The main character is strong, competent and keeps pushing forward regardless of what is thrown into her path. I definitely like the series and will move onto the next book. I would recommend the series and starting with book 1.
3.5 Rounded up because I am ANGER. How dare you Kessler? How dare you rip out my heart like that I am in SHAMBLES. I really enjoy this series, I didn't appreciate the lack of Simon in this book because he's my fav but the rest of it was fast-paced. Granted, it was a bit fast-paced for my personal taste because so much happened to Abby in this, so many traumatic events that I get she doesn't have time to process but I as the reader felt like I could process fast enough to keep up with everything going on. The series is definitely building and building with each book but I think right now the previous book is still my favorite thus fa.
Really great story. I often forget as I am reading Amy's work that she is a friend because her stories drag me into them just like many best selling author's do.
Love Abigail and look forward to her next adventures.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. There was action, and mystery. I look forward to the next in the series. So many questions still remain, and the story just gets better with each installment.
Talk about your cliffhangers. I cannot wait to read the next book. I've got to find out what happened. This series is wonderful. It's like a super long movie that you just can't walk away from.
Each book in the Here Witchy Witchy series has been building up to something big, and it continued to do so in The Trouble With Ghosts. There were so many things that happened throughout this instalment in the series, with an interesting new case that kept getting bigger the longer Abby worked on it.
I liked how much action there was and how all the paranormal aspects wove this tale together. The runes came up again, I enjoyed the ghost aspect of this story and how they reacted to Abby, there were severed thumbs, dead bodies and blood starved vamps as well. Abby's life seemed to be constantly in danger and her belongings are always under threat as well! It amuses me that each case caused some sort of destruction in Abby's life.
I liked seeing her work with Nick, but he annoyed me a little in this book, considering they are supposed to be partners, and Abby would be the senior person in their partnership. I missed seeing Simon, and how good he was to Abby because he had his own issues with the pack. Oliver and Levi still support Abby through everything, but it appeared that one person was holding back. She began to question the loyalties of those around her, and was unsure of who she could trust. She also developed stronger working ties with a few people, one of which made her life difficult in the past.
The Trouble With Ghosts kept me on my toes right from the start. I was quickly pulled into the world again and into the case that Abby was working on. There were so many new developments that I was left as baffled as those trying to solve the mystery. A lot issues that were dealt with in the previous books popped up again to show us that the case was bigger than first thought. There were some surprise twists, that had my jaw hitting the floor, and by the end of the book I was left with more questions that I began with. I'm excited to see where things go from here, because the story arc is far from over and is beginning to get very exciting!
Another great story, and finally some cases wrapped up in a satisfactory way! Bodies, explosions, vampires, and ghosts - a great combination. :) STILL wondering about Osiris the cat, though! Can't wait for next book. :)
Poor Abby! I really wish she could catch a break from the constant pressure of death threats, but I guess without that we wouldn't have these fast-paced stories about her life. Maybe a short story could give her a little reprieve.
We join Abby (crazy life already in progress) as she is still working on finding a balance with Nick (that's looking good) and tasked with solving a gross case involving severed thumbs. Yuck. This case, of course, ends up tying into a number other related items - the cult (remember them?), vampire politics (remember her almost kidnapping?), and the wolf pack (ouch, remember Simon?). Well, the cult remains as mysterious as ever, but we get to see the reemergence of a previous character. The vampire politics is also a bit of a black box to Abby, and it looks like Levi and his new associate want to keep it that way. The wolves? Well, at some point Abby would have to deal with the fallout from that, right? Oh, and there's ghosts. Did I forget to mention that?
There are a lot of death threats, a destroyed car (again), and some puzzle pieces that fall into place, but the true focus of the story is Abby. I think we're starting to see her break. Sure, maybe it's not full meltdown, but how many attempts at her life (and loss) can she be expected to survive? I think this book was a real turning point and where she goes from here will truly decide her fate. I wouldn't mind her finding a viable love interest at some point, either.
This series is really beginning to get into it's stride now and I do love a series which makes you concentrate and have to work out what's going on - I feel like I'm being treated like an adult who knows how to think. Things are getting rough and real for Agent Abby Collins and there is a lot more to her world than meets they eye and she's only beginning to get the tip of the ice berg I feel. It is becoming unclear who is enemy or foe and I literally spent a lot of this book with breath held and heart pounding. Full of action, suspense and intrigue I absolutely love this. A joy to read if also very emotional!
Wow, this series gets better with each new book. Abigail Collins takes you on a ride that will keep you turning those pages and wanting more when the story ends. It is full of twists and turns that leaves the reader guessing who is truly behind the explosions, murders and evil plaguing Abigail. This story is emotionally packed with highs and lows that leaves the reader laughing one moment and wanting to cry the next moment. This author will draw you in, with her ability to weave an exceptional first rate paranormal tale. I hope book four in this series will come soon.
Violence and death continue to swirl around Abigail, compounding unimaginable loss with past grief and crystallizing a determination to uncover and resolve to unanswered questions affecting her entire existence and the fates and future of those around her.
I am enjoying this series. I can't wait to get some of the answers that I have had since the first book. I hope Abby and Simon can figure out how to make things work. I would recommend this series to anyone.
