I ended up DNFing this because it felt like there were chunks of the narrative missing. Events and revelations are spoken about as if they've been written about earlier even though they haven't. (the dragon that Elizabeth suddenly remembers, how the doctor is "fae" except he's never said/shown anything remotely like it, how she's been known to suffer delusions is just dropped in there suddenly... ) And then theres how the main characters flip-flop about; I just couldn't get a stable sense of their personalities (Elizabeth doesn't like the doctor, then does, then doesn't, then having trust issues she wants to have a break from their carriage ride to head upstairs at the inn with him... Yikes, woman!)

In fairness, the first chapter seemed pretty promising, and there's nothing wrong with the writing style. I just couldn't stand feeling like I'm supposed to just know things in the same way the characters do even though there's no way I (or they) could.
