This historical fantasy is set in the world of The Awakening Series, featuring the Awakened of past centuries, and the humans and "Mutts" who had to battle them.
I ended up DNFing this because it felt like there were chunks of the narrative missing. Events and revelations are spoken about as if they've been written about earlier even though they haven't. And then theres how the main characters flip-flop about; I just couldn't get a stable sense of their personalities
In fairness, the first chapter seemed pretty promising, and there's nothing wrong with the writing style. I just couldn't stand feeling like I'm supposed to just know things in the same way the characters do even though there's no way I (or they) could.
