Stupid I know, but this was on one of those 'charity bookshelves' in a local shop so I picked it up. Bit of a rush to get out of the shop (I had ice cream in my bags) so I put my donation in the tin, and headed out without actually opening the book.
I would never have bought this had I known it was mostly recipes by 'famous' people - many of whom I have either never seen before, or I thought were dead. In fact, when I was reading the list of recipes, I actually wondered who 'Veal Ragu' was and why his recipe for cannelloni was included. I might have enjoyed it more if it had contained some really interesting recipes - such as Cowboy Beans by John Wayne, or 'The Perfect Martini' by Sean Connery. Maybe even Shark Fin Soup by Roy Scheider ;)
Seriously though, this was just another of those 'celeb' books - another excuse to tout a recipe book. There's nothing on the cover to say it's just another remix of yet another of Oliver's books. I actually own quite a few of his books - all bought from charity shops or given as presents. Some are very good. One or two are okay. But many of them I keep because they fit really well in one section of my very extensive bookcase and if i throw any away, the others will tip over.
I think the thing that really irked me about this book was the misleading title. It's NOT 'Jamie's Friday Night Feast'. It's Jamie-and several people who probably know very little about serious cooking-'s Friday Night Feast. I felt a teeny bit stupid and more than a teeny bit 'used'.
Another book for the charity shop ;)
