This is the story of 20 year old Lucas Rollin. Orphaned at the young age of 10, his life is filled with struggles as a Superhuman, a genetically enhanced human. Living a life of poverty in the 23rd century, he could only barely sustain himself with his genetic differences compared to a normal human and survived by gaining money in virtual reality to pay for his food and survival.
Now his final break came with a less then popular game [Magic Life] which features a special auto character creation process. During this process, he ends up with the Race Demon Lord and the class of the same name. Follow him as he plays in the virtual world that changed his life as the Demon Lord Akor as he trains in the tutorial zone facing countless choices in his [Magic Life].
This was a fun read. The main character was likable as well as what I assume is going to be the love interest. Both of which are flesh out characters. This is the typical underdog LitRPG story of a guy with nothing is going to build until he gets the world in his palm. With that said, overall, the story was rather enjoyable. The reason I'm giving this 3 stars instead of 4 is due to the gratuitous amount of typos that detracted from the book. Usually I'm able to over look them, but in these instances, I was not able to because I just slammed into one after the other, or there were grammar errors which tended to pop up in the middle of the action pulling me from the immersion of the story. If the write gets someone to edit this book and make some grammar and spelling updates, I can easily see myself giving this 4 stars, possibly 5. With that all said, I still plan on reading the next in this series, because the way the story was going. In the illustrious words of Kevin Hart....
While small as a genre, the LitRPG world has forerunners and standup works. Unfortunately this is not one of them.
Riddled with spelling and format errors, repeated or useless descriptors and vague concepts. Characters are shallow with little to no development and there is no tension, plot depth or anything to pull in the reader or feel invested in the world or protagonist presented by the writer. I read it all in the hopes of some improvement but it actually seemed to get sloppier towards the end.
This book had an interesting premise but was poorly executed by the author. I can’t tell if the book was poorly translated or English is the authors second language, but the writing was poorly done. There was no real plot or story, the entire book was an over-explanation of the game system with almost zero action. I tried to finish the story and give the book time to worldbuild and develop but I couldn’t.
Ok this story needs a lot of help, the narrative suffers a lot, I am not expert but I am sure there is a couple of grammar mistakes around, and the characters outside of the game need a major improvement. Even after all that I enjoy the novel a bit, the story although not unique seems to be well though in-game. It has enough to improve on itself but is seriously lacking for the time been.
The universe is interesting, set in a future where work is hard to come by, robots do it all. So people have to earn money in games,
The economy is not quite there but if you just go with it it can be fun. The boy seems to recognize his weakness, you would think he would be smart and able to compensate and be more militaristic, and the girl could figure out how to be better economy.. It was again a bit to obvious. However it was a fun and enjoyable book...
I've always liked worlds where building is an integral part of the story, and this one is no exception. I also like when the main character takes the path less traveled, and that is in here too. The story is very well done, and while there's not a whole lot of LitRPG components here, there's enough to make it interesting to those who enjoy that genre, while not boring those who don't. In short, Just about anyone who enjoys character driven stories will probably like this one, LitRPG fan or no.
Needs editing done. That over everything else is my biggest complaint. As to the game aspects it is more a city builder like the old civilization games. The lack of an rpg focus is quite interesting and I personally will look forward to book 2 though the author needs to step up his game. He can easily get people to edit in the litrpg/ gamelit communities. The lack of editing and polishing almost drove me away
Great book for fans of world building. Love that the MC is slow and thoughtful about the choices he makes and keeps it game real. If you're looking for combat action and power leveling, then this is not for you. Some spelling and grammar errors but probably is more translation issues. Loved it!!!
I liked it, but the English was broken. I had to mentally correct the writing to figure out what the author was saying. Add to this that there was a ton of dull “world building” (read explaining) exposition and it just doesn’t shine. Still, it was a good story. And I do want to read more. I hope the author’s skills improve.
A unique entry into the litrpg genre, that is a enjoyable read with a interesting story and characters. It lives up to the regards I hold for this author and can't wait to see what come next.
I powered through it but man was this book in horrible need of just a basic editing. Author is probably not a native English speaker, while this isn't bad he needs help translating his book better.
While action is not the focus of this novel it is interesting watching Lucas cleverly build up his kingdom to maximize how strong his nation will be instead of himself
More a real time strategy game for the MC, than the standard "go kill & level". More entertaining than I thought it would be, I highly recommend this book. Very enjoyable.
Really enjoyed how much his was written it upheld the expectations of little while delivering a awesome storyline. If you like little books this is a definite keeper
I actually liked all the tables and charts, the only thing holding this book back for me was the remaining editing that needs to be done. Otherwise, its a creative and more unique story than I’ve seen lately.
Good addition to town building genre, especially for LITRPG. It has lots of tables and the story is presented well. This story is fairly unique and I look forward to reading the next installment whenever it happens.
I was a little disheartened to start with due to wording errors, however this book more than makes up for them with its in-depth kingdom building style and character progression.
No op MC’s here only realistic creativity to problem solving.
4 person such as myself found this book to be slow but then it's good it's in it's simplistic ideology. I cannot wait for the next series in the books.
Good story and pacing, interesting ideas, but needs a proof read
I really enjoyed the story, and the plot development. The hero's unconventional path looks promising. My primary critique involves the grammar. A proof reader would solve most of the problems with an otherwise excellent book.
Dry, lacking interpersonal interactions, timely MC background. Too much repetition of tables just to show a few changes. The story was slow, unentertaining and more like a manual than a story.
Good use of World building, I enjoyed the characters and I'm looking forward to reading the next book which I'm going to do right after I submit this thank you.
