The history of electronics can be traced back to 1874 when Irish scientist George Johnstone Stoney (1826-1911) suggested that electricity must be "built" out of tiny electrical charges. Twenty years later, he coined the name "electron". Interest in electronics gradually increased over the decades following Stoney's discovery. Although there is a logical flow in the way that information is presented, you can pretty much jump around from chapter to chapter as it suits you, picking out the material that is of most interest. This book is fantastic if you're looking for an introduction into the field of electronics and electrical engineering. Dixon does a great job at explaining things in Layman's Terms and covers a lot of ground from the very basics of how electricity works and how different electrical components function to how to build your own circuits using solar power. One thing to be noted is that this book assumes you have no background in electronics hence "For Absolute Beginners", if you're an experienced electrician or an electrical engineer this isn't the book for you but if you're starting off(like me) this book is a great starting point.
Another great thing about the book is that it provides projects so you can put your theoretical knowledge gained from the book into practice. I have yet to build these circuits since I'm on holiday but they seem extremely interesting and Dixon really provided a lot of variety with these circuits as well as different ways to experiment with them.
Overall I highly recommend this book as a starting point in learning about electronics.
