Anna Kimble, professoressa universitaria, è alle prese con il blocco dello scrittore, che le impedisce di realizzare il proprio sogno di scrivere un romanzo.

Ma non è certo per il mare meraviglioso, il sole instancabile e le palme al tramonto che questo soggiorno caraibico rimarrà indimenticabile. Ci sono infatti dei dettagli di cui Anna è all'oscuro.
Ad esempio, la casa lussuosa che avrebbe dovuto ospitarle è in realtà un catamarano. E Rachel non è esattamente in vacanza. Sta scappando da un anonimo persecutore che le lancia le sue minacce via e-mail.
Essendo infatti una sorta di genio del computer, a soli 19 anni, la ragazza ha sviluppato per il fratello un programma di simulazione del cervello umano, senza preoccuparsi se lo scopo per cui sarà usato sarà dei più nobili o dei più pericolosi...

This is a new author for me. I picked up this paperback from a “Read and Share Library” and will put it into another share book library. I see these share libraries popping up all over the place. Some are in stores or offices and others have made fancy boxes near mailboxes on the residential streets. I will occasionally take and leave a book in one.
This is one of those easy to read none thinking books that are great to read in between more serous books. A college fires Professor Ana Kimble. She is offered a vacation on a secluded island resort. Anna suddenly finds herself in danger and can upset a “Neuro’Sys” program run by a pharmaceutical company. Anna apparently falls for an undercover agent.
The book is well written and is fast paced. The action never slows down. The plot is well thought-out and executed. The characters are interesting. The stories make for a good get-away-from-it -all book.
I read this as a paperback with 377 pages, published by Mira. The author seems almost more interesting than the book. She was born in Havana and came to the United States at age five. She speaks five languages and is a full-time author.

It turns out I'd read this book before, but it was OK a second time around. This book brings into question the ethics of medical research on humans and the types of people who become involved in such work. The characters were pretty good, and the plot was fine. The way all the characters managed to coincidentally converge on the right place for everything to happen was a bit much, though.
