I am a huge fan of true crime accounts, and after reading so many over the years, the same stories surface again and again and it can become boring….. NOT this time!
I tend to favour the crime stories from the US, mostly because I grew up reading SK and have always had an obsession with all things American. This time it was a refreshing change to read a very well written book about British crimes, and there was no mention of Shipley/Neilson/Jack the ripper - these stories were all new to me, which is most unusual.
Written concisely and kept short enough to be quickly conclusive, I could have read it all day long.
An easy 4 star ⭐️ rating.

I was sent this book to read in exchange for an honest review.
This book contains short but very detailed and easy to follow accounts of crimes people have committed and tried to get away with in the UK. So interesting and full of facts and information on how they were stopped or caught. I just couldn't put this book down, and the fact all the cases within the book were committed in the country i live in just made it even more readable and i had only heard of 2 of the crimes recorded in it.
This book was very well written and recorded (information wise) and i can't wait to read what I'm sure is going to be one of many more books to come!

They Walk Among Us is a collection of ten British true crime stories from the podcast hosts of They Walk Among Us, Benjamin and Rosanna Fitton.
Given that the genre is dominated by American crime, it’s likely these cases from the UK will be new to many readers. The cases here are not presented in exhaustive detail, but certainly with enough to provide a clear understanding of events, and the aftermath. They include the murder of intimate partners, a very unusual instance of deception, and financial dishonesty on a grand scale.
I thought They Walk Among Us offered an appealing mix of well told and interesting cases. Regular listeners of the podcast will be delighted to learn that these cases have not been covered in previous episodes and while to be honest the podcast is a little over scripted for my tastes, I’d certainly be interested in reading more from this duo.

this was such a fantastic read.
i absolutely enjoyed every second of reading it, and loved how it didn’t feature the popular cases of nilsen or shipman. it featured cases that i hadn’t heard of, despite someone who regularly researches crime.
sure, there were a mistake or two with the spacing of words but i’m more than happy to ignore that because it was just so good!
i think i’d known of one case fully, and heard of two more. it was a fantastic read! i highly recommend it, as well as the podcast!

Listened to the audiobook via my local library!
I’ve never listened to the podcast behind this book (same name as the title here!) yet I’ve always had an interest for creepy true crime listens and reads. This one certainly didn’t hold back and there are plenty of T/Ws for assault, graphic details of crime scene events, assaults on minors etc. A good introduction to a potential new podcast to add to my growing list of ones to listen to. All of the cases showed here are real and not fictional. If you listen to it late at night, you are brave!

Påskekrim del 2, typ true crime denne gangen. They Walk Among Us er egentlig en true crime podcast av herr og fru Fitton, og denne (lyd)boka er vel egentlig en podcast i bokform. Vi blir servert ti kapitler og disse varierer alt fra økonomi- og identietbedrageri til doktorer som bedøver og utnytter andre mennesker.
Jeg har ikke hørt (om) podcasten og synes denne boka inneholdt spennende historier, og ikke minst var de veldig forskjellige og varierte. Det som trekker ned er at ikke alle kapitlene er like minneverdige og den monotone fortelleren.

Listened to this on audio and it was a really interesting little smattering of true crime cases.
Not super indepth but very captivating nonetheless. I hadn't heard of any of these cases.
Note the subject matter for this one is allllll over the place, from falsifying pregnancies to horrible sex crimes. So go in expecting a rollercoaster content wise.

I received a copy of They Walk Among Us for an honest review.
I knew I was going to love this book before I even opened it. I LOVE The Walk Among Us Podcast. It’s so soothing and terrifying all at the same time.
The book reads exactly how the podcasts narrator speaks.
The stories are true, shocking, well researched and so entertaining.

This was a fun audiobook! An easy fast paced listen. I only gave it five stars because some of the true crime stories were really interesting, but some dragged on and felt lackluster.

A collection of short stories about criminals in the UK. The book provides tellings of the crimes and repercussions they faced.
I really enjoyed each and every one of these short stories, I find true crime very interesting anyway and will definitely look into the podcast Benjamin and Rosanna Fitton have.

Love this podcast and was delighted to hear they were publishing a book.
Most of these cases I hadn’t heard anything about, a couple I had but not in great detail but just like the podcast the cases are in detail without going off topic.
Highly recommend if you like UK true crime.

Not often I read true crime but I picked this one up on a whim from my library. It focuses on British crimes which is unusual as mostly true crime books and tv programmes tend to be American!
I enjoyed each story - from murderers to fraudsters and each case had me googling the perp for more background.
Each story is between 20-30 pages long so it’s a good read for when on the bus or at night when you just want a quick read.

I listened to this text as an audio-book. For fans of the podcast, it is worth a listen as there are cases not previously covered. However, listening to this in my insomnia laden state, it occurred to be how much Benjamin and Rosanna have grown as writers and researchers since the book's release.

This was so good! The cases had been well researched, and presented in a clear and logical fashion. There was a great mix in there from murder and attempted murder to some pretty breathtaking frauds. My heart broke for the two couples who were sucked in to the surrogacy fraud case, and I felt that in particular was sensitively done.
Benjamin Fitton was the narrator as well as one of the authors, and I enjoyed listening to him. He had a good pacing and style, and I liked the accent, which fit the UK-based nature of the cases. I do hope he does more audiobooks based on the podcast, because I would absolutely listen to them.
This is a true crime collection I’ve already happily recommended to my friends! Also, a great introduction to the topic as well as a great audiobook.

So where are we now...
I've been a fan of the podcast of the same name since it was released and have listened and repeatedly listened to some of the episodes. In a world of independent podcasts, some get unfairly overlooked so I purchased this book to support the podcast that I love. Initially, I thought that it would be a recap of some episodes or possible an update on some of the case that I'd already listened to.
Nope, 10 all new cases that I'd not heard of and was only too happy to read about. The writing is excellent, plenty of detail on each case without getting over-detailed and bogged down with dates and figures.
Anyone that is interested in true crime, this is well worth a look.

This book covers 10 well-known true British crimes. It gives an introduction to each of the cases and I felt it could have delved much deeper into each case - in fact, each case could have made its own 300 page book. While I found the cases fascinating, and this book was a definite page-turner (I finished it in one day), I felt it lacked emotion and connection with the victims of these crimes. The book read more like a police report. One of the cases in this book was that of Vicky Cilliers and the book she wrote about her ordeal was very moving so maybe what was missing was own-voices. I enjoyed it none-the-less and would recommend it to any true crime fans.

I picked this up as I’ve enjoyed the original podcast before, but the book was not worth the read in my opinion. It essentially felt like a very basic retelling of a collection of crime stories, generic enough that it might be gleaned from one news article or Wikipedia entry.
Perhaps my standard was too high because I’ve read some excellent true crime this year, but I didn’t feel like there was enough time spent really digging into each case. It felt hurried, with quite a few grammatical errors in the book making me feel little care had been put into it.

I'm a huge fan of the podcast, so this book was a welcome addition. With all new cases, you could hear Benjamin Fitton's voice as you read (which is one of the things that makes the podcast so good). This was a perfect read for a long plane flight from London to Australia as you could pick it up and put it down. Each chapter was a fully formed story, reinforcing the criminal depravity of the human race.

I used to listen to the podcast, so when I saw they had released a book I thought it would be an interesting read.
The book is made up of ten different cases, all UK based. I had heard of a few of them but I would say most of them aren’t that well known.
Each chapter is quite short but the case is explained in enough detail, without too much waffle.
This was quite a good read and if you like the podcast, or true crime in general, I would recommend it.

A collection of British true life legal cases. Some are murder and others are fraud, or a mixture of both.
It wasn’t a bad book and a very easy read. Trouble is with being quite old now, I recalled many of the cases and had watched the subsequent documentaries on the case. At times I felt I was just reading what I already knew.
It’s a solid book and if you are not well read on the subjects within then I recommend it.

Brilliant. I absolutely loved this book 10 brilliant true crime stories. I find most crime books are usually a rehash of the same few crimes over the years, but with this book I have never read about any of these before so made it that bit more exciting fingers crossed they will bring out a volume two

I enjoyed learning about some ‘UK’ crimes, and it was easily accessible too. I do wish it was slightly more detailed though (maybe reducing to 5-6 crimes instead, or producing a slightly larger book, as it wasn’t a massive text). I would like to know more about why the authors chose these particular crimes as well. Interesting, but too broad to be fascinating.

A great read about all kinds of British crimes. Most of these were new to me but the only familiar case -- the Rolex Murder -- had much, much more information than I've read before. Not just blood and gore; there are some spectacular ripoffs in here too. Well written and moves right along. Well worth seeking out.

Who doesn't love a bit of true crime?
Based on their podcast (which I haven't listened to but will definitely be exploring now I've read this) - it was a fantastic, narrative driven recount of some of the most fascinating true crime cases, mostly based in the UK.
A combination of murder and fraud, and broken into clear independent stories, they were fast paced and impossible to put down.

Cupcakes of crime.
A perfect little collection of some of Britain's worse crimes, but without any sign of Jack the Ripper. I could read these all day, just enough info to get the story and the results.

The cases are interesting as the podcast usually is, but I'm not sure a book was really necessary. I did listen to the audiobook, so it was top notch reading by Benjamin Fitton as his podcast listeners are used to.

Listened to this as an audiobook. I thought it was really good, loved how it was set out and clearly narrated. Listened to episodes whilst feeding my infant (so it's ok he doesn't understand what it was about yet...?) and washing up. I would totally read the physical book as well tbh.
