When I was a girl, my father forced me to swallow a magical crystal. The Dragon’s Tear turned my bones fragile as glass. I was no Ionger strong enough dance or learn to fight… or take any lover until my wedding day. I was destined to wed the King of the Dragons, and only he could restore my health.
Now it is time to fulfill the prophecy. To become King Aurekdel’s bride.
I don’t want him. I want the dashing young head of my guard, Oszin, who has been my best friend and secret crush since I was fifteen.
But Oszin can’t heal me. Only Aurekdel can. I already hate him and his tall, fierce warrior champion Lord Seron.
I really had no idea what I was in for.
Aurekdel is charming and clever and he wants to give me everything I ever wanted and then some. The love of three protective men, a magical garden, a blessed sword, and the role of a great queen. But there is one thing he cannot give me after all: a cure.
The prophecy was a lie. I am still broken and no one knows went wrong. I’m determined to learn to fight for everything I hold dear, but the truth of the prophecy will shatter the kingdom Aurekdel has built...and gain the attention of the dark dragon who will change our destiny.
Glass Princess is an 85,000 word fast-burn reverse harem novel. Warning: cliffhanger ahoy!
Lidiya Foxglove grew up on a steady diet of fairy tales, folklore and fantasy and also reads way too much manga. Fantasy romance is her favorite thing in the world, but she likes it steamy. She also loves cats and tea--it's cliche for a reason!

Well I think I may have liked this more than the Guardians series but I still loved that too! Lidiya sure knows how to write amazing fantasy with killer world building and sexy romance!! I can’t wait to read book 2!!!
The Glass Princess: A Reverse Harem Epic Fantasy (Kingdoms of Sky and Shadow Book 1)Kindle Edition by Lidiya Foxglove I borrowed this book via the Kindle Unlimited program and am choosing to leave a fair and honest review
I tried to like this, I really did. I tried to get past the modern language and old fashioned setting. I tried to get past the Princess's whininess and Orizon's clinginess. I really, really did. I even got to about 70% into before I finally gave up and moved on. The only character I gave a rip about was Seron.
Where did my problem lie? With the overload of plotlines. We have the “will the princess get well”, the “will she fall in love with her various men”, “will her head guard love her enough to share” and finally the one plot line that should have been front and center, “will Ezuru save his people – and where did he come from.” The Ezuru plot line is what made me leave. This is a big deal plot. But up to the point I read, that plot only showed up twice, almost as a throw away. It was unnecessary because there was so much else going on.
I also couldn't get past the dialogue. Half the time, the characters sounded like fairy tale characters should, the other half, I felt like I was stuck in a coffee shop full of Millennials.
I just had to give up because all of this just bored me
I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
The Kingdoms of Sky and Shadow series is a spin-off series from the Guardians of Sky and Shadow series. The Guardians of Sky and Shadow series is one of my favorite reverse harem series and I couldn't wait for the spin-off series to be here. And this book was just as good as I had hoped. I was so happy to we got to return to this amazing world Lidiya Foxglove has created and this time we follow the story of princess Himika, who we already met in the first series.
The Glass Princess is about princess Himika who is getting married off to the dragon king as foretold by a prophecy. He is the only one who can cure her. Himika doesn't want to be married to a king she never met and is already in love with her head guard. She also doesn't know that it's custom for the king's champion to join them in the bedroom.
This was such a great story, that kept my attention from start to end. It's great to be back in this world that's already familiar, but the storyline is very different than the first series. Which makes it feel familiar and unique at the same time. I loved seeing the story unfold, the character develop and the romance progress. There are some nice twists and the reveal at the end was awesome and I can't wait for book 2!
I liked following Himika's story and the author really wrote it all very convincingly. Himika really feels strongly about this marriage, she doens't want to marry the dragon kind, but also knows she doesn't have a choice. And I loved seeing her slowly warm up toward the dragons and the dragon king as the story progresses. It was done in a way that felt very believable.
While we had met the dragon king Aurekdel before in the Guardians of Sky and Shadow series, we didn't get a good feel for his personality there. And I liked getting to know him better. He notices Himika's reluctance and I loved how he respected her wishes and was careful with her, but also respected her and encouraged her not to give up and do what she could. I also thought it was interesting how the king was blind and how that affected what he could and couldn't do and how he learned to live with it, but it also bothered him at times. I thought it was portrayed realistically and I liked how Aurekdel and Himika connected over that topic too as they both have a disability of sorts.
I thought I would like Oszin the most as Himika already loves him, but I actually preferred both Aurdekdel and Seron to him. That's not to say Oszin isn't a great characters too. He and Himika share a bond and have known each other for so long, that their relationship is very different than her relationship with the other two. I did think he could be a bit too protective of her at times, but that fit his character. And it was nice how they had all this history and psst together already.
And Seron was so interesting too. I liked how he was a bit shy and awkward around Himika at first. he knew Aurekdel intended to share her with him, but he wasn't sure what to think as he doesn't know how to act around women. And when he starts developing feelings for her as well, it's awesome to see. And I loved his soft side. He's this strong and tough battle hardened warrior who gets shy and has a soft side too and I liked that contradiction.
The romances were well done and I felt each of the romances was developed well. I also liked how Himika's relationship with each of them is very different. Their romances progress in a different way and their relationships all feel differently. While Seron and Oszin are more protective, Aurekdel understands better how it is to live with a disability as he's blind. While Oszin knows her very well and is very close to her. And then Seron who doesn't get too close at first, but then also develops feelings for her. It was great to see the different relationships and I can't wait to see how the fourth member of her harem will fit in there.
The harem in this book is pretty different from the harem in the first series and most other reverse harem series. As Himika is married to the king. She's his wife first and foremost and they allow the other two love interests to join them in the bedroom. It's common for the dragon king to share his bedroom with his champion, but not for anyone else to join them. It was interesting to see the harem develop and I am curious to see how it will progress in the next books when another member gets added.
There are a bunch of sex scenes in this book, but while it's a fast burn, it isn't too full with sex scenes. The story and the relationships get enough room to be developed too. There are some really well written sex scenes in it and again I am surprised how different each scene is and how it adds something. There is a small hint of a bit of MM as well, but I am not sure if that will be further developed and seems to get almost completely ignored. I wouldn't have minded a bit more around that and how the characters felt about that.
I also liked seeing how the different member of Himika's harem interacted with each other. At first Aurekdel seemed to have all the power in the relationship and controlled who would enter the bedroom, but he was also very considerate of Himika's feelings and I liked how open minded he was and dedicated to making her happy. And while he was so smooth and easy with her I also think he was a bit jealous about the way she already loved Oszin. It was great to see Seron and Oszin grow a bit closer over the course of the book. And Seron and Aurekdel already were so close, but this relationship with Himika, changed their relationship as well. I think Seron even felt a bit of resentment at times.
While it's a spin-off, there are no appearances from the main characters from the first series, what they do impacts this series a bit tough. And while it mostly works as a separate series set in the same world, I do think starting with the Guardians of Sky and Shadow series is best as this series does build forward to everything that's achieved in that series. There are also references to the characters. I think you would miss some deeper understanding of the world, the priestess and even Himika's past if you haven't read the first series. This series does wonderfully as a spin-off, we meet new characters and familiar ones, but it also builds perfectly upon the first series.
While there were things we already knew about the world of the dragons from the Guardians of Sky and Shadow series, this series builds upon that and elaborates on it more. There more we learn about the dragons, their society and customs. And also the war with the rock dragons and mist dragons and we get more information about that too and that plot lines gets a lot more important here.
To summarize: this was such a great read that held my attention from start to end. I loved being back in this wonderful world that Lidiya Foxglove has created. There are characters we already know and some new characters too. It works wonderfully as a spin-off series from the Guardians of Sky and Shadow series with how it builds on that basis set there and also has a unique feel. I liked Himika and the author writes her very well with how she doesn't want this marriage at all at first and then slowly warms up to the king and the dragons. There romances are all well done too. I liked the three members of her harem so far. The harem does have a pretty unique feel as she is married to only one of them and this causes some interesting dynamics between the characters too. I liked getting to know all the members of her harem and also seeing how they interacted with each other. I liked how there is more we learn about the dragon world and also the plot line of the war with the traitor king that gets explored more. And that reveal at the end leaves me so curious to where this series goes next and I can't wait for book 2!
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
We Himika during the first trilogy but I was more then ready to get her whole story this time. We pick up as she about to travel to the dragon kingdom in order to wed the dragon king. The consummation of their marriage is supposed to cure her crystal bones though we are in for quite a few surprises as things to not work out how they planned them to leading us to one doozy of a cliff hanger I must say. Full of some amazing world building as we enter the dragon realm yet still gives us characters we have grown to love. Great for fans of the genre or those that read the first trilogy. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Wow that cliffhanger! I'll admit I wasn't too excited for Himikas story, she wasn't one of my favorite characters, but I love her dragons! I can't wait for the next book!
The first book in Himika’s series was very interesting. There were so many things that happened that blew my mind! There were some unexpected twists in the story that just took me by surprise. I’m loving the Dragon King and I’m not sure what to expect in the next book now! The ending threw me for a loop and I can’t wait to start the next book!!!
I downloaded The Glass Princess as a free ebook from Amazon. Unlike most RH books I've read, these characters had some unattractive traits. Himika was vengeful, to the point of sometimes overriding her common sense, and not seeing reason. Seron may have been my favorite character, as he's so unsure of himself and worried he'll make mistakes with his part of the relationship. Aurekdal was an odd character to like--at times I really liked his soft side, but there were moments when I thought it went overboard--he's a king, after all, and I'd expect more confidence and decisiveness. Oszin offered the most unexpected surprises--especially his battle fierceness and dedication.
The relationship development really works, and I liked the premise behind the plot. This writer sure knows how to twist an ending--and yup, it's a cliffhanger. You'd think, with all the plot twists, I would have anticipated a twist at the end too--but I honestly didn't see this coming. I'm tempted to pick up book 2 to see what happens next.
First off, it would have been nice to know that this should have been read after the Guardians of Sky and Shadow trilogy. Second, although related to the first point, the world building was subpar. Then there's the fact that the language did a 180 midway through the book, from courtly and culturally different to using today's slang. Finally, there was the "plot twist" that you saw coming at the 40% mark. This read like a draft rather than a finished product, and since I didn't connect with any of the characters enough to care, I'm not going to read any of the other books in this world. I may not read anything else by this author either.
It’s a lovely, clever concept, but there’s a lot of intimacy which, whilst it isn’t crudely done, still moves this book into more than young adult or teenage. But that’s just the opinion of a 44yr old!
Himika had her wedding. But the magic that was supposed to heal her bones didn't happen. Now dragon council members are tossing out ridiculous ideas and her dreams of learning to fight are fading fast. Having 2 dragon mates is wonderful but her guard still holds part of her heart. And now everyone is getting ready to move the kingdom due to the yearly toxic fogs. The trip is dangerous enough and an attack by the Traitor King is pretty much a given. It would have been really nice knowing she could defend herself and Aurek.
Spoilers ahead. You ride the emotional waves with Himika. The moments of happiness she didn't expect within a political marriage, the lows of her cursed bones not being healed, the unexpected gift from her husband, and the knowledge that without being healed there's no kids. She can't even adopt because kids don't know how to hold back their strength and could unintentionally break her. We learn a little more about Niko's past and how that ties in with the Traitor King, the very unusual rock dragon and maybe even a little about where this rock dragon came from. Although, liars and torturous probably aren't the best sources of knowledge. Warnings for the maiming done to Niko's mom decades ago. The Traitor King had her tongue removed. The thing I don't understand is, with all the elemental abilities these dragons have, why didn't they fortify the original castle? Especially as the mist dragons harness toxic gasses and the newer, supposed to be improved, castle sits above a toxic fog. Some metal walls or retractable bridges, as most dragons can't fly, with ice and lava dragons walking the top. A few winged ones ready to beat back mists expelled by encroachers and bam. How do the other dragons who live apart protect themselves from the rock dragons, as they are literally surrounded by their element underground? I understand wariness of all mist dragons but exclusion breeds contempt. Oh, I remember why I enjoyed these stories so much. They're a little silly but there's some legitimate and thought provoking issues raised that keep it out of the fluff column.
Himika is a Sky realm princess who was forced to swallow a cristal named the dragon pearl with the result that it made her very sick at the time, and continues to gain terrain, to this day. The only known way to cure the illness is to court, marry and consumate the wedding where the sperm will act as the permanent remedy to the illness.
At the death of her father, her brotherRin, the new king made the deal tohave her wed the dragon king, Aurekdel. When the delegation from the Dragon world arrived at court, Seron, the king' s personal representative, arranged everything foher travel to the Dragon fortress and that included her personal Guard from her homeland with it's captain, Oszin.
The author tells of a periode when dragons fought between themselves and pretty much every other species. She writes of the travels of a princess destined to be queen with a precasted destiny. I enjoyed the book and rate it 4 Stars.
Holy cow, that wasn’t at all what I was expecting when I started this book. This was a fantastic story! The world building that author Lidiya Foxglove put into this story is nothing short of amazing, the characters are fantastic, and there is tons of action, adventure and steamy goodness! I loved every minute of Himika’s journey, her determination and spirit are amazing. I adore the men she is surrounded by (although Oszin is not my favorite, I literally like all the other characters more than him. Not sure why, he just bothered me). Again, this story is amazing and I very much look forward to reading book two, I have to know what that final discovery means for this group and what will happen next, what will Aurek do, is Ezeru what he seems, all things I need answers to!
I love how creative this story is ! If it is "based" on an older fairytale, it's one i have never heard before. A princess with bones of glass and only the Dragon King can heal her. This isn't like most steamy novel because the storyline is strong enough to stand on its own without the sex. I enjoy the attention to detail (description of sights, sounds, smells, and taste). Of course it ends on a cliffhanger...... My one criticism is for the editor!!!! There are a lot of errors in the book, which is odd because I've read several of her books and have never seen this many errors! There are misspelled words and at one point, a character is accident referred to by her brother's name (it's not part of the story).
I've read a few Lidiya Foxglove novels because I love fairytales and retellings, but I haven't enjoyed them as much as I'd hoped to. I decided to give her books another chance and read The Glass Princess because the premise was so intriguing, and this book is my favorite by far. It's such an interesting world the author has created and the characters are realistic in their struggles. I did suspect the twist at the end, but I wasn't entirely sure. I am looking forward to the next book.
Lore is definitely interesting and the plot twist was definitely not something I expected.
My only irk here is that the narrative or how the characters speak feels to be clashing with the world. The world-building was visual enough for me to understand that this seem to be in high/low fantasy setting but the characters' speak as though they are living in modern times. Not saying they should go all "Thou shall..." it just didn't fit for me.
Other than that, it's an interesting book and I'd like to continue reading the next books.
The story continues from the priestess to the last princess. The end of this book had a twist like I just did not see coming; usually I see almost all of the twists coming and I just did not with this one! I can’t wait to read the book two and then book 3! I love this author, this book and both series! I’ll be sticking with this author and checking for more from her!
This is my third Lidiya Foxglove book, and I think I'm getting to know what her tone is like. Also her favorite tropes: young women who feel stifled by the society they live in, strange and sexy traditions, and courts that are extremely invested in their monarchs' love lives (but, like, in a supportive small town way? idk). She's a lot of fun to read! Also, while I did see that final twist coming, it was a heck of a cliffhanger. Now I may have to read the sequel.
Foxglove NEVER disappoints me. I love her writing style, I love how she experiments and changes the steaminess throughout every book and shocks me. Also...this ending? BOY OH FRIGGEN BOY LIKE I SAW IT COMING BUT I DIDN'T AND I JUST REALLY WANT BOOK 2 ALREADY PLEASE LET ME HAVE IT YOU WILL THE FUDGE OUT OF THIS BOOK OMGGG
Omg I can't even begin to tell you how awesome this book was! It was a spin off from Guardians of Sky and Shadow trilogy (which btw was amazing as well!!) and it was just fantastic I can't say enough good things about this book!! I can't wait to read the next one!!!
We first met Himika in the Priestess series. Forced to swallow a dragon tear at a young age, her bones are Crystal and she is fragile. Supposedly the king of dragons can heal her once she becomes his wife. I can't wait to find out what's next! One heck of a cliffhanger at the end of this one.
WOW!!! I loved everything about this book!! I cannot stinking WAIT for book 2! This is the first book I've read from this author...so I never read about thIS female MC her other series. You better believe I'm gonna read this author's other books :)
This is a very well written story. I loved that you really get to know all the characters as they all narrate part of the story. There is lots of action and a really strong romance between her and her men. I would love to read more about them.
I like the beginning but once in the middle I felt there was to many details going on that wouldn't have been missed. But I got to the end and now I'm interested to see what will happen in the next book!
I loved the world building in this story and how the relationships where built on more than instant attraction or destinty. Looking forward to the next in the series
Really, I haven't read any of the other stories yet, so I kept feeling like I was missing backstories on some heroes, but the plot was very very fascinating.
I really loved this book. Himika’s story was so much more than I expected. I figured a twist at the end and it left me needing the next one. I ant wait to see where this story goes next.
