IN THE SHADOWS: A Horror Novel
New York City detective Al Russo is a walking cliché and he knows it. His obsession with his job and the adrenaline rush it brings has led to a failed marriage and a taste for alcohol.
Detective Russo is called to investigate, what appears to be, a simple traffic accident that resulted in the death of a homeless person. However Al uncovers evidence that things may not be as they seem. His suspicions appear to be confirmed when he is confronted one night by a shadowy figure claiming the accident was actually murder. The figure threatens violence unless the perpetrators are delivered to him to extract vengeance.
The threats are followed by several unspeakable acts of savagery that are meant to send a message. A police operation hastily organized and executed to apprehend the person responsible for the violence ends in bloodshed and death.
Detective Russo now finds himself alone tracking an ancient enemy of man long since dismissed as legend. He must put his own life in danger and betray everything he believes in an attempt to prevent further bloodshed that would result in the deaths of tens of thousands

In the Shadows by Lawrence Medici was a really cool supernatural thriller. I liked Detective Russo, the tough down-to-Earth inspector who is thrown into a crazy case after a seemingly simple car accident. Medici does a great job of describing everything as Russo unravels an intricate and twisting plot involving ancient horrors and dark things in the night. A good one for any Seven fans out there!

I liked this book. It had good story telling, flowing prose that was very accessible. Good strong main protagonist and evil forces doing horrible terrifying things. The prologue was my hands down favorite part of it! Got me sunken into the story right away!
“He lay there for a moment feeling disconnected. Lost? Scared? No, that wasn’t it, not scared, but apprehensive. What was it about the middle of the night that stripped you down, left you defenseless?” - my favorite quote, cuz it’s so simple, but relatable!
One star off cuz I personally prefer not to mix fantasy with crime, but if that’s something you enjoy, you should give it a try!

In the Shadows is the debut novel by Author Laurence Medici, and a horror fiction tale that also crosses into the genres of crime and mystery & thriller. Unlike a typical crime fiction story, the main protagonist, Detective Russo is forced to go against his beliefs and police training by allowing vigilante justice to be served in order to save the one he loves. In doing so he will also prevent the deaths of tens of thousands of people who remain blissfully unaware of what lurks in the shadows amongst them. But can these strange and terrifying beings be trusted?
This is an interesting plot twist, that isn’t typical of a classic ‘monster’ or supernatural story but instead introduces a very different perspective. Whilst lacking in the traditional bumps, jumps and fright factor, this clever twist and telling draws the reader in and provides its own atmosphere and tension as both sides of the coin are presented. The reader is challenged as they consider who the true monsters are, and whether they too would make the same choices as Detective Russo when faced with such a moral dilemma.
I loved the opening prologue which I found atmospheric and beautifully written. Each character was engaging and believable with sufficient detail given to allow the reader to visualise and connect with. There were no significant editorial issues or anything that would distract from the enjoyment of this story.
I award 5 stars.

Very well done
The story line is original, and the plot has several twists that I certainly didn't see coming. All in all a nicely done work.

Fantastic Storyline
This was such an exciting adventure, I could not stop reading. Had you thinking this could be happening now or in the future!!
