I count myself lucky to have read every book written by Barbara. Speed Bump was not what I expected, not that I really have expectations....It was a journey of Tony, one I had not realized when I first started reading! Amazing story, well woven, full of surprises you won't see coming! Read it! You'll love it :)

So, I listened to the story on my way to/from work. I have one of the Alexa Auto devices and you can get a poor man's audible version of any book this way. The reason I mention this, is that there were so many moments while listening to the MC's journey, that I would snap my head to stare at Alexa and say "What the @$@?" Was that really in the book? I'd like to drop a spoiler or two, but I don't think you really want that. Better to read/listen to it for yourself. Basically, the story's going along and BAM, some character would do something horrific that most wouldn't see coming. The dialogue is great and each character (good/bad) has some weird tics. They are fresh and real feeling that help keep you in the story. Full disclosure, I'm not a fan of this genre, but I enjoyed it anyway. The author's writing is great and kept me pulled in on my way to/from work. The commute felt much shorter listening to Speed Bump. One time, I stayed in the parking lot for 5 minutes listening to the chapter as it wrapped up. I really didn't want to end it until I found out what happened with the MC. Guys and gals, pick this book up. If you like the genre, you'll love the book. If you don't like the genre, you'll still like the story. I'm looking forward to more of the author's work.

On Sunday, my day off, I sat relaxing; taking in a perfect morning read. I was determined to get away from my constant routine. Although, humorously, the main character is a delivery driver. I also, happen to deliver for a living.
This book took me out on a ride with Tony on a route I had never been on before. I felt as if I were there with him at every bump in the road. We just kept rolling until finally the trip was over and I realized that Speed Bump: A Christmas Tale, from beginning to end, is one of the most brilliant stories ever written. Now, back to my deliveries. Hopefully, Mrs. Avon will be knocking at our doors with more very soon.

Jingle Bell Hell
Contrary to my tagline, there is nothing corny or 'b-list movie' about this story. "Speed Bump" is a chilling tale of murder, ghosts, weird strangers, family, and limbo. It's one of those stories where every time you think you know what's going on, you realize you probably don't. I found myself hanging on every word to make sure I didn't miss one thing while I tried to unmask the madness of Tony's adventure. Grammatically well-written with a fantastic atmosphere, an eerie plot, and great characters.

I received this book as a giveaway and was a little uncertain about reading a creepy Christmas novella in July, but dove in. Glad I did!
This delightful trip through a haunting Christmas Eve set in 1985 was an unexpected journey into a ghost-filled trip down a snowy 401 heading into Ottawa. A sort of The Shining mixed with 1408. It has a great mix of shocks, creeps, and morbidity mixed with solid writing, including a touch of sexy passion. An pleasant surprise that will keep me of a mind to read more Barbara Avon.

It’s a rare occasion when you are able to find a writer that you connect with. Actually it’s a blessing. I find it fun and even rarer to be able to go back in time and read the work she produce when starting out. Barbara is a precous gem, this book embodies her style and grace as a writer. Also, it shows that she is a master of her craft. Its raw, twisted, and creative.
It's Perfect!
A Christmas carol of another dimension, it hauntingly screams: Merry Christmas 🎄

There is a scene that may make you rethink eating beef ever again...if you eat beef that is. This a wonderfully paced adventure into a shadowy land of the disturbed.

A brilliant haunting story with characters and immersion that will stay with you years later. It is like a classic twilight zone episode, one you'll want to read over and over.

I was saving this one for the spooky season, but I was in the middle of binge-reading a long series and I needed a palate cleanse, so I didn't get burnout. Anyway, I had this book waiting on my kindle for quite some time and I knew it would be perfect. If you've read any of Barbara Avon's books, you know to expect the unexpected.

What always stands out to me is Barbara's atmospheric writing. As I got sucked into the story I felt like I was right there with Tony and got goose bumps. Taking place on a haunting Christmas Eve in 1985, this delightful trip unexpectedly turns into a ghostly adventure on a snowy drive down the 401 heading into Ottawa. All Tony wants is to complete his final delivery on Christmas Eve and return to his fiance, but it seems like nothing is going according to plan. This is a story that continuously keeps you on your toes, making you doubt your grasp of the plot. With every turn of the page, a lingering sense of dread accompanies you, leaving you helpless but to hope that Tony will be okay.

I loved it! For readers who love unexpected twists and are fans of horror, I strongly recommend checking out Speed Bump.

"Speed Bump," is a spine-chilling horror novel that had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. As someone who doesn't typically read horror, I made an exception for Avon's work because I already fell in love with her writing, and I'm glad I did.

The story follows Tony as he embarks on a terrifying adventure that involves murder, ghosts, peculiar strangers, family, and limbo. Avon's masterful writing style kept me engaged throughout the book, and every time I thought I knew where the story was headed, Avon surprised me with another twist.

The 80s references and strong Twilight vibes added an extra layer of nostalgia and intrigue to the book. I found myself hanging on every word, trying to piece together the puzzle of Tony's experience.

Avon's writing is truly captivating, and "Speed Bump" is no exception. Even though it's a horror novel, I couldn't put it down. The ending was an unexpected surprise that left me reeling. If you're a fan of horror and enjoy a good plot twist, this book is a must-read.

Overall, I highly recommend "Speed Bump" to anyone who enjoys a good scare and a well-written story. Don't wait until Christmas to pick up this book; it's a page-turner you won't want to put down.

I'm becoming a big fan of Barbara Avon.

This is not your typical Christmas tale. It's dark and mysterious with a steady procession of confusing and surreal situations. It reminds me of a recurring nightmare that I've had much of my life. I'm out at night and trying to get home. In my dream, I keep bumping into a stream of strange people but no one can seem to help me until I finally wake up.

The only story that is similar to my dream is the 1885 film After Hours. That is until I read Speed Bump. Poor Tony the main character, all he wants to do is finish his last delivery on Christmas Eve and get home to his fiance but nothing seems to be going his way.

I'm not going to spoil it for you but there is a wonderful twist ending that I expect will surprise you as much as it surprised me. Barbara spins a beautifully dark story and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.

I was looking for a nice, horror short and Barbara Avon's Speed Bump definitely hit the mark.

The writing reminded me of Koontz and King, especially because you were constantly second-guessing what was happening in the story! The hints are subtle and when you reach the end, you start going back and appreciate those hints.

While I'm more accostumed to the gory and disturbing side of horror, I did enjoy Avon's style of horror. Like the hints, it was subtle and slow - feeding you bits of it one page at a time.

If you like a good horror novella that happens on Christmas Eve of all times, I would recommend this one :)

Tony-Tony-Tony... All I can say is: READ THIS BOOK!

Speed Bump is an enjoyable, wild ride. A holiday must-read! But don't think for a second it's your typical, sweet holiday story, after all, the genre is horror. However, for me, it was mild with a lot of 'what that???' and 'huh' throughout.

Barbara does a fantastic job hooking you from the first page. I love the 80's references! And all the characters.

This was the first book of Barbara Avon's I have read. Now, I'll add all of her books to my TBR list! You should too!

I LOVED this book! I couldn't put it down and ended up reading the whole thing in less than a day. It was so freaky, and the idea was so cool! I loved the characters, I loved the plot twist, I loved the entire atmosphere. I could see everything as if it were playing like a movie. Story and craft are woven together beautifully. This is my first book that I've read by Barbara, and I'm thinking I want to read more of her work. It's not every day you find a treasure, and this is a treasure.

Wow

What I read was not at all what I expected. I won't give it a way, but the people Tony met along his journey back to his fiancé so he can celebrate Christmas with her were something else.

A spooky page turner that I really enjoyed. There hasn't been one book this author has put out that I haven't liked. I love her style, her characters, and the twists and turns she takes you on in her books. Another 5 star book IMO.

Avon has a deliciously wicked knack for creating vivid side characters who populate this chilling novella and antagonize the trucker who gets sidetracked trying to make it home to his fiancé on Christmas Eve.

Speed Bump is a fun read for those in the mood for something dark and twisted with occasionally over-the-top (and sometimes funny when not grotesque) moments.

She did it again! I did not think I would like reading this type of book but I love it! So far, all of her books I've read have surprised me in a good way. You can never guess the ending! Way to go Barb!

Decent little horror story, although as I've read another of Barbara's books which details a location prevalent in this story, I saw the big twist coming a mile away. Still, for those who haven't read that particular book, this one might be enough to keep you on edge.
