Riley(Bear) Logan has been in hiding, being a Bum after a very explosive mission! He and Jack thought it wise to stay out of sight and quiet for awhile, so Bear travels to St.Lucia, making some special friends while trying to unwind. But trouble seems to follow him, when a gunman bursts into a small bar and murders his friends! Bear is arrested and put in prison, trying to keep his head down and do the time while figuring a way out. Problems continue, all of a sudden he is out on the ground with Thorne, a 'Leader' of his old unit in front of him. Now the real trouble begins, you learn to never thoroughly trust anyone, there is Always a reason for what they are asking you to do. A great adventure across the country against many enemies, this is a marvelous look from Bear's perspective.
Was so involved in this story, I found it came to an end. Then you left an open door for Jack and Bear to get back together. Love this series and all the characters.
The author lacks research into his story's details. From failing to recognize salt water destroys electronics to the characters unrealistic knowledge of people, places, and things. Reminds me of cartoon stories popular with today's young adults.
This book was fast and easy to read. It was definitely much better than the first Bear, point of view, book. Bear seemed a lot more loose in this book and it made for easier reading.
Poor Bear goes from the sun in St. Lucia to the cold in North Korea in the span of a few days. Chasing after a lead given to him by a nemesis named Thorne.
Plenty of action and adventure to go around. I liked the mental scenery in this book. It was well written. During the book and at the end of the book , Thorne keeps asking Bear, How his friend , Jack is doing? Bear never answers of course, because he wouldn't tell him even if he knew. But, he doesn't know. Does Bear catch on? Does he catch that Thorne might have done something to Jack? I don't know that he did. I'm just speculating, of course. That's the big question for the next book, I think. And, I look forward to it.
I think Mr. Ryan got a lot of flack on his last Bear POV book, I think he did a splendid job with this one. Congratulations! I expect the third book will be even better.
I When you have time to settle into a good reading location and have no one to want to share time with you, then this the perfect book for you! I read the entire book in one night without any interruptions. .I enjoyed the fast pace and refused to stop until I finished! Must admit there were places that I was uncomfortable but that is the best thing about reading for your pleasure and not having to share with others.
If you've been a fan of the series that preceded this, with Jack Noble as the main protagonist, then you know what to expect. High-octane action, macho 'white-hatted' characters and reprehensible villains. The dialogue is crisp and sparing. The pace is unrelenting. In this Bear Logan adventure he suffers in the St Lucia prison system, is whisked away to the Far East and undertakes a mission inside North Korea. All before breakfast. You get the picture. The only time you get to draw breath is as you turn the last page.
Shocking is about the best way to describe how the conclusion struck me. Being sure that Bear Logan would have ended Thorne after being told that he orchestrated the murder of an innocent couple and got him throw in prison; not to mention everything else he’d endured at this mans hand. Fair and legal justice is great, but for my money in reading this the bullet administers the righteous justice (in this case!). Great story tell though, had me all the way to the end!
On the tranquil island St. Lucia, Riley "Bear" Logan's life suddenly turns upside down as he's framed for murder. He'll have immunity if he does a job: pick up a package at a house, get out, and he'll be free. Can it really be that simple? He's quickly trapped in a spider web of corruption and deceit. The whole free world may be impacted. This well written thriller moves right along and you'll not want to put it down.
I wasn’t into Bear waiting around for the cops to show up??? , kinda was STUPID. Naturally he’s cuffed & dragged off to jail. Then going to North Korean? I would have to love someone with all my heart to do that. It would have to be love or death , but Bear wasn’t in love with Sadie? I don’t get it? This really is a low rent book, not really engaging just a story dragging out with characters moving about. 3.8
I am happy to see New is back, now we need Jack back in the series. I read a lot of books by different authors and main characters but these two are my best. If you like a book with a lot of action then read L.T. Ryan's series with Jack & Bear. You won't stop reading them until you read them all. I PROMISE!
A very exciting book which kept me involved from start to finish. Lot’s of twists and turns... The only thing I had a problem with was believability... I’m no expert but North Korea? In and out? Riding around the countryside? I guess it could happen but it seemed a bit over the top. So 4 stars for Bear this time.
This was an excellent for Bear to pull his weight without Jack. Bear wound up saving Sadie and getting Thorne captured . He deserved everything he get. But I believe he has a Trump card to play with a Jack against Bear and Sadie. But we shall see. Great p.ot and continuing story . 10 🌟 plus!! Thanks , Carl Clause
Enjoyed another on by L.T. Ryan. The second in the Bear series and it did not disappoint even though Jack wasn’t around. Great to see Bear get it done on his own and just as exciting. Good book for anyone in to action or spy novels and would probably hold the interest of many retired armed service members such as myself.
Bear is trying to stay under the radar but ends up in prison. Thorne gets him released WHY...Some very bad people are trafficking children and somehow it leads to foreign countries and assassinations. Sadie is involved but who is really involved and how does Bear fit in all of it.
You've got to read this to fully understand the kind of man Bear is and what he will do and/or go through to help or save a friend. Also, what he will go through to eliminate a threat or a criminal. From the islands to North Korea he left his mark. Great job. Thank you.
I stopped reading Ryan,s work a while back, because the plots were so filled with stupid scenes that are so completely strange and far fetched to be painful. Tried this one just to prove the point and it definitely did. Stupid stuff loosely stuck ,not tied, together . another word salad.
Definitely better book than #1. At least Bear’s Thriller Series has Bear as a main character. But still not the depth of character as in the Bear/Mandy series. Plot-wise, maybe it’s best to just read on without trying to understand or figure things out. Strange twists where you think, oh, now we’re getting somewhere, just to have it peter out or take a tack in a completely unexpected direction.
Another excellent novel by L.T. lots of ups and downs with unexpected twists and turns, that lead to a surprising ending...yet, the end of Thorne is not a sure thing. Bear should have put a bullet in his head when he had the chance to do it!
Bear gets drawn into a situation he has no choice in. Framed for a murder he didn't commit, then surrounded by rival prison gangs, he is then forced to battle his way into and out of North Korea!
This was a really good book lot's of drama, action and twist in the story, the ending was good but not expected as so much focus on bear as it should be and it did leave you wanting more which will the next book.
Wow, did this one ever end from out of the shadows and surprises. But then after you wrap your head around the new angles it makes sense and leaves us hanging for the next installment. What a wonderful piece of work.
Pretty good but Bear does better as an anchor for Jack. It is annoying to have a minimum number of characters. It's like having to writ essays in class all over a in.
The part that. I most enjoy Is getting to know what made up the character. The part that's tough with this book is that it took a painfully long time to get the information. Love the character, the characterization needs work I believe.
Excellent "Bear" novel! This spin off of the Jack Noble novels kept me up all night reading it straight through! Bear's in trouble and both he and Jack Noble are "off the grid" even from each other, so there's no help. He's on his own. Wonderful novel! 5 star easy.
A great book full of twists and turns. L T Ryan has a brilliant way of describing all the fight scenes and shoot outs that keep you reading when you really should stop. Great storyline!
Very good book. Kept me focused and entertained through out the entire read! The author did great keeping the suspense up and keeping the readers attention to want to find out more about what will happen.
L.T. Ryan has created this great new series with Bear as the lead hero. Bear is the perfect hero between his size, expertise and conscience. Thorne is definitely a thorn in your side. Sadie is an exceptional heroine. There are plenty of surprises in this story. If you like adventures and thrillers, you will definitely like this book and series. Don't miss any of them! 😊
For kicks, thrills, and more than a few nail biting moments grab BLOWBACK! U will not be sorry that you did. Love the adventures of this writer. He makes reading worth the ride.
Good story line and crazy happenings keep you guessing. Don't bother trying to figure out what ,how or who, just keep reading to the last page. Even then you might be scratching your head.
Thought it was a sequel to Close to Home, but it was far from that. A very good international mystery, albeit playing fast and loose with dealing with and getting into and out of the DPRK. Very engrossing to the less-than-satisfying end.
