KARIN

Theo Valentine is a cruel heartbreaker. A manipulative psychopath.
As beautiful as a fallen angel and the most damaged man I’ve ever met.
He came into my life ten years ago like a whirlwind, taking over my town and my high school.
I couldn’t resist. I tried to fix him.
In return, he broke me and destroyed my life.
Now our past has caught up to us, throwing us together again.
Theo is more twisted than ever, but this time, I’m ready for him.
This time, I’m unbreakable.

THEO

Ten years ago, she turned my life upside down.
She came close to me and made me feel for the first time.
So I took everything from her.
Karin Beckett will stay away from me this time if she wants her heart intact.
But she won’t.
She has always been drawn to broken things, and she will try to save me once more.
If only she knows how fucked up I am now.
I’m too far gone, too sick in the head for saving.
All I’ll do is break her again.

Drea Blackery is a writer with an unhealthy passion for all things steamy and angsty. Broken alpha heroes are her crack, and from the moment she typed her very first “Chapter One”, she fell in love with writing books and hasn’t looked back since.

Drea lives with her husband and her dog (creatively named Woofie), and her favorite things in the world include spending time with her family and friends, curling up with a tub of Ben and Jerry’s to binge-watch Game of Thrones (Team Arya!), and of course, reading.

Good wasn't meant to be with evil.
I absolutely adored Drea Blackery's debut Arrogant, so there was no way that I wasn't going to read the sequel. And Broken didn't disappoint!

After the shocking events that unfolded in book 1 for Allie and Ryland, it was now time to see and feel the story from Theo and Karin's point of view. Honestly, I had no idea how the author was going to redeem Theo and his malicious heart . . .

Karin is Allie's sister, her sweet, naive, loyal little sister. She may be all grown up now, but her core values remain the same.
Karin loved freely and unselfishly.
Theo is her exact opposite.
"My loyalties are to myself, and myself only. I never pretended otherwise."
Despite their differences, in the ten long years they've been apart, neither has been able to forget the other.

Wow! These two were explosive together, and Theo is wholly unprepared in the face of Karin's determination to get her way this time around, especially once she gets a glimpse of his soft underbelly.
I didn't want to be the one who snuffed out her light.
Over the course of the story, Theo slowly relents, and there were some really great moments along the way; lots of HEAT and some great flashes of humor.
"You could read the inside of a Hallmark card and still sound like a psycho."
Where I thought the writing failed a bit was in the direction of the story; there were a few convenient plot 'coincidences' and I was hard pressed to completely believe in Theo's motivations for some of his actions. Plus, I felt that the timeline - which was written for Allie and Ryland - didn't quite fit for Theo and Karin.

BUT for me, none of that detracted from the heart of the story: their connection. And that connection could light up the night sky it burned so brightly.
"I know what I want. And I want you."
Here's my favorite moment - and it shows Theo and Karin's personalities perfectly, lol.
"The Little Mermaid? There's this scene where the prince takes her out to the lake on a boat." Her voice was dreamy and breathless. "She was wearing a blue dress just like me now, and he's falling in love with her. On the lake, he leans in and . . ."

"Fucks her?" I guessed.

As I suspected, another vapid 'porn-ance' penned with an amateurish style and premise/characters cannibalised from the 6,000,367,298 so-called romances featuring 'Alpha billionaires and the cows - I mean women - who love them' that litter the reading pool these days.
It's a given that these sub -par options will be rife with editing errors, a distinct lack of proper information and one-dimensional, unrelatable and/or unlikeable characters.
This one is no exception. The heroine is weak and submissive - but gorgeous, of course - the hero an empty slab of perfectly chiseled marble in a suit - so, also stunning, obvs.
Nothing substantive, nothing at all to make anyone with a brain give two shites about them.
The plot is inane and full of holes so large one risks falling through and sustaining a fracture.

Again, the person writing it shows A) a distinct lack of respect for their own gender and B) an even more distinct lack of knowledge about the US. Do your fucking research.

On the plus side, if you skim over all the messy, spew-inducing sex you can get the gist of the 'plot' and finish in about, oh, 15 minutes?

After this waste of time I could have used looking for something worth that time, this writer goes into the 'Avoid' vault. Buh-bye.

A must-read book. This one about another tortured, love-seeking couple. The author has a wonderful writing style. Each book in this Series can be read as a stand alone, although the characters are linked through a horrible event that has had a deep impact to all of them. Can't wait to read about Cam and Gabriel. Bravo!

I didn't read the first book in this series but maybe I should have. I liked this story but I didn't love it, something was missing for me. Theo Valentine is a cold, angry soul, sent away to school as a young boy, disowned by his father (who had another family) & neglected by his money grubbing, selfish & self absorbed mother. Of the two I thought Theo's mother was the demon, the devil incarnate, that she loved only herself. Imagine growing up feeling alone & unloved, this is Theo. Who wouldn't feel angry, devastated by abandonment & moving towards adulthood feeling you could only rely on yourself.
Karen Beckett lived with her wealthy father & older sister. The two siblings lived a comfortable life but like Theo, their only parent, their father, had very little use for them. His love & adoration went to Estelle, Theo's mother & to her only. So on the day Theo & his mother moved into the Beckett mansion, Karin tried to befriend Theo to no avail. He remained cold & distant, aligning himself with other rich cold hearted guys from school.
Karen was a breath of fresh air, kind, thoughtful & a real dreamer. She believed in the good, had an open heart for almost everyone & saw that there was more to Theo than his preferred closed off persona. After a devastating family tragedy, a simmering attraction, it would be ten years before Theo & Karin met again.
I loved Karin, her free spirit, her wit & determination. She was also absolutely fearless & never gave up the notion that Theo would one day be enlightened to find he was all that Karin found him to be. He was worthy of love, capable of returning that love & could have hope in the future for happiness.
Yes, Theo was broken but he wasn't all evil. I think this is where the story felt weak for me. I could see his redeeming qualities, not always apparent, but they were there. Maybe if I had read the first book I would have seen more depth to his character, in particular, more evil traits. At this point, that prize goes to his mother.

This is the 2nd book in the series, I did not read the first but did not feel lost. The author did a great job of giving the history of the two characters and the past. Theo and Karin are both great characters. Theo is broken or so he believes. He has done some things that are unforgivable. However, Karin is someone that can find good in anyone. Theo is lonely, cold and unfeeling except with Karin. She warms his heart and makes him want to be a better person. The contrast between the two is sharp. The things Theo did and continue do are not things most people would ever forgive. That is what make Karin unique. She wanted to Theo but only the better Theo she knew was inside him. She knew that at an early age and told him. I liked that the author made Karin sweet and innocent but not a doormat. She lived her life and did not "wait" on the hero The dark and the light. Great story that will have you turning pages and eagerly awaiting more from this author.

Broken is the 2nd book in the New York Heirs series. It's a stand alone Contemporary romance with a billionaire bad boy/enemies to lovers trope. This book has interconnecting characters, lots of angst and drama, hot sex, secrets and betrayals. The hero is a grumpy a-hole that is on the borderline of evil.

Karin: Theo Valentine broke my heart when we were in high school. Some call him a psychopath. His beauty can take your breath but he is an empty shell. Theo was one of the guys that ruled our high school and hometown. I tried to resist him, I tried to make him smile but in return, he broke my heart and destroyed my life. My sister took me to New York so we could start over after my father died. Now he is here in New York and I know the secret he's been keeping. I confront him and it's apparent that he is even more messed up than before. But, I'm ready for him and I'm not going anywhere until I get what I want!

Theo: Ten years ago, I came into her life and she made me feel more than I ever had. So, when she turned down being my girlfriend, I destroyed her life.
I've warned Karin Beckett to stay away from me. If she doesn't want to be hurt again, Just. Stay. Away. But she won’t.
Karin is everything good and is drawn to the broken. She can try to save me again. But I'm bad to my core and not worth saving. To close to breaking and I'm afraid I will break her in the end.

Broken, by the author, Drea Blackery, covers a group of friends for a span of ten years. The epicenter from ten years ago is a murder and a coverup by Theo and his friends to protect his mother, Estelle, who is the murderer. She killed her boyfriend, Horace Beckett, but it was hidden. Karin Becket, Horace's daughter went to high school with Theo and they had a thing for each other back then. The murder ended that.
Ten years later and the daughters (Karin and Allie) of Horace now know Theo has a thumb drive of Estella's confession but refuse to turn it over. Karin will attempt to reason with him and all that does is open old feelings.
There is so much at stake here for so many people. How it works out can have a domino effect.
I liked this storyline and am recommending this book because it kept you guessing a lot of the time as to when and who was going to break first. The storyline really flowed nicely and the characters were nicely developed even the ones I didn't like, especially Estelle. What an awful mom and person.

Beautiful story.

There are a few spoiters, but nothing major I promise, only enough to leave you curious.

Theo and Karin are extremelly entertaining and I loved their chemestry. The bits of them ten years earlier were kind of my favorites, and I'm not usually a fan of flashbacks, so I was pleasently surprised.
I know he showed to want to be a better person for Karin, I just wished he realized his worth a little more explicitly.
I can't wait to see more of them. He and Gabriel need to work their shit out.

Okay, there's a few spoilers down here, so beware.
Karin is just my favorite. I was upset to see Allie's reaction though, didn't really match the outlook on life she conquered on the first book, that people can change and deserve second chances. Karin was so supportive of her then about forgiving Ryland, she didn't really payed that forward like her development would.
Also, will Theo ever let the girl sell her paintings and be an established artist? What the f*ck with that? Cute but a lil weird.
I hope they all get to work things out and be happy.

Ten years Theo and his friends covered up a murder of Horace Beckett committed by his mother Estelle he was her boyfriend at the time. He had two daughters whose lives changed that night Allie who we met in the first book and karin. This is Karin and Theo's story

Karin knows that Theo is holding a thumbdrive with his mother's confession to her father's murder she just needs to get him to turn it over and she will . Theo has become cold and lonely as he keeps his secrets he has done things that make him unforgivable but Karin may be the one to thaw his heart. There is plenty of drama and suspense as these two fight for a future But can his darkness be lightened by her sweetness or will he drag her into the darkness. You need to read to see

This book can give a rude boy romance junkie, a hangover and probably upgrade yr personal rating scale. It's been forever since reading a book that made me stay up all night and hooked. This book is just pure quality, I was absolutely in love with the plot, Karin and  Theo. That girl knew how to fight and break through walls and didn't let life push her down. And Theo, dayyummm just a single sentence from that man is enough to melt the reader. This book oozes class and the author Drea Blackery is my new all time favourite.❤❤

This is another great read from Drea it was really well written and gripped me from the first couple of chapters. I really liked both Karin and Theo they were fantastic characters that had had a thing for each other while in high school but when Theo help cover up his mother's crime that was the end of that relationship now ten years later and Karin and her sister know he has evidence of what happened to their dad will she be able to convince him to give it to her and will they be able to ignore the attraction between them. This was a really good gripping read.

I really enjoyed the first book but I really loved Karin and Theo’s story, their early storyline was getting so sweet until all their lives were broken, I also loved the way their relationship started again with Karin’s Stubbornness to let go, how the walls came down, probably being a bit unclear in my review but I really don’t want to spoil it for anyone, absolutely loved the ending and especially where they were 😊 lovely ❤️

Not as good as the first book

Too many similarities to read books back to back. Sex scenes are too similar (minus the being tied up). The books not identical, but just similar. I also got annoyed with her saying “oh” so much. This girl from Cali and lives in ny. Anyways, it was just ok where the first book was really good. Will read something else before reading the next book just in case it the same again.

The underlying story is love gone wrong due to circumstances that made him make a decision that changed their lives. The storyline delves into our hearts. What would you do if placed in the same situation? I enjoyed how the story developed. The interactions between them were hard to read. He was so closed off, it made it hard for her. I was intrigued from beginning to end. A good story.

This reads like a bad CW network drama. Maybe I'm just too old to find any of this melodramatic ridiculousness believable. The characters are over-the-top cliches and I skimmed most of the book because it was painfully boring. If you're really into pretty-girl-emotionally-damaged-boy savior stories, you'll probably like this.
