Who doesn't love a good military sci-fi thriller?

A good set of characters, and a good sci-fi space alien threat. Marines in space! Looking forward to more Breakout Marine thrillers. Wish one of the female ninja prisoners could have joined the crew on the Raft. I got the feeling they are going to need a lot of help just to stay alive.

I can see how people may like this book; however, if you are looking for military sci-fi with a shoot so up twist you will be disappointed. Marines yes, fighting-action lacking. This is more of a drama that has marine character.

Setting up your antagonist

This story is unique in some was but lost my interest. I suppose if you want talking super hero or heroes you have to have a super villain. In this the story line does a good job of establishing. The PLOT is a fairy familiar, "an Alien attacks humans in a way we'd never expect and we almost don't survive." One of my main problems is with the PROtagonist. They are not very smart. They are rude and crude and certainly do not fit in civilized society. Worse, they identify as Marines! Obviously David Ryker does not know many Marines. They would be insulted with this book. I have known many Marines and, while capable of amazing things, they are not stupid, are not crude, they are political and though great soldiers are also great people. If Ryker took some time to meet some of them he would NEVER write about them in this way. There were far to many things they "forgot", or people surprising them when a Marine would have.been more alert. Plus, if they WERE surprised a Marines have a good chance of taking down the adversary.

No, I will not be recommending this book to a friend.

In about 100 years not only the 1% and their media want attenuation of us all. NO. An alien race is coming to put it on us all (likely what this thing with the yellow toupet in the US is trying too). But then there's a bunch of 4 framed military soldiers as prisoners on a moon near Saturn, where they have to exploit minerals for the 1%. Teaming up with other inmates, they become the last hope for mankind. Breakout is an awesome, entertaining military SF read and i'm looking forward to the next installments.

Kinda fun...kinda not

Not too far into the book I was going to delete it but figured I’d give it a few more pages. It picked up some so I decided to see where it went. I’m pretty much ambivalent about the whole series. Think this is where I get off.

It wasn't quite what I expected. I thought I was getting a gritty military sci-fi novel. I think future installments will fit this bill, but the first felt like an extended prologue. It was all set up for our plot armor wearing heroes. It felt more like a horror story. Think more Alien versus Aliens. The four fugitive marines were lacking in character development. Unfortunately, many supporting characters (e.g. Ulysses and Sally) were much better developed, but used less. Sally was easily the coolest character. Sigh. I look forward to reading the next book (I'll start as soon as I finish writing this), but I truly hope it has more of the military aspects I expected from the first and less of the fugitive-on-the-loose elements I anticipate. Only one way to find out.

🌌🪐🛸🚀AN ENTERTAINING ADVENTURE.

Former Marine captain Napoleon Quinn hadn't seen the blow that shattered his face coming.

A fight broke out between the inmates and the guards of the Oberon prison...

-------------------'

An entertaining sci-fi read that features a quartet of captive ex-Marines facing off against an alien invader.

The pace of the book is quite slow.
There will be other volumes to follow, hence the rather open end of the novel.

I recommend this entertaining book to fans of military science fiction.

A SYFY By DR about group of Marines Sent to Prison Camp

DR has penned a SYFY novel about an Alien race that intends to take over Earth. The group of Marines that stood between them and Earth had been sent their because the civilian populace did not know what to do with a group of men acting like a King holding court. The Marine group is given access to their prison to stop the coming invasion. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

This is a great read that has hard hitting action and a definitely different world build. The plot is well thought out and has some twits to keep you interested all the way to the end. In fact, you will have to read book two, you won't be able to help it. Lol

It caught me in the beginning and held me until the end! This was a fantastic sci-fi story with so much to offer! Adventure, excitement, danger, the ultimate underdogs and enemies!! I can’t wait to start the next book to see how the story continues!

A ride through the mind

Always wondered what a vengeful meme would do to the human mind... well here's a possible scenario. Well written, scifi romp, filled with honor, vengeance, and a bit of, well everything. Read it. It's worth it

Very enjoyable read

Always enjoy an underdog type of subplot with a possible end of the world issue. A fantastic group of characters in this. Good, bad and I think ugly. Really digging the invading aliens and how they go about business. Looking forward too the next book.

Under dogs are still in it...

Great set of characters. The overarching story is solid with intelligent enemies that are not to be taken lightly. Good blend of sci-fi and military culture. If you like marines and sci-fi this is your book.

Great read and hard to put down - this one was a surprise, with elements I didn't expect. The characters are well developed and solid, and the plot keeps you guessing. I'd have given it five stars, but there was too much foul language for my taste.

Amazingly good start to a series

From start to finish this was a storyline that was addictive. I could not put it down.
Great characters with realistic situations in space, with aliens brain parasites.
I look forward to more😀

Did not enjoy

I did not enjoy this story at all. I found it difficult to read, difficult to identify with the characters and the flow of the story was extremely slow. I also found the background or the back story of events happening missing or not explained adequately.

Awesome book

This was an awesome read. A little slow in the beginning but it picked up quickly and it was non-stop after that. Definitely recommend this.

Not sure what the author planned on this book.

Book was not that entertaining and was all over place on characters. I will not be reading any more books in this series.

Pretty good stories, but the amorphous entity, and the tight band of space marines motif is getting old. Need a little more realistic scenario.

Good read

Very good story, tad draggy in the beginning but picked up nicely. Got confused with the characters. Not sure I've got them straight yet. Will see in the next book
