Charles Broadstokes is a little confused... There are cowboy boots on his feet, pop-up hints appearing in his vision, and, oh yeah, there’s a mariachi band in his head. The world's not going to slow down and let him catch up though, no, it's going to throw a chrome hover car at him and hope he gets the picture. Charles isn't what you'd call inept though, and before long he's proving himself as a quick shooter, fast learner, and more than willing to immerse himself in his pseudo-digital reality full of cruel crimelords, dangerous wild animals, and all manner of fun allies.
I wanted to like this book more. It has the workings of a ton of things I like. LitRPG, western, aliens, insane people working with the MC. The only thing that really made me not give this a higher rating. The Main Character. He tries sooooo hard to be this kinda stand off guy. Not a jerk, but not lovable, and in the end just comes off to me as an ass. He has a big problem with just being straightforward with people, but expects everyone to be that way with him. He also leads people on and never quite straightens anything out with anyone. He's a fly by the seat of your pants kinda guy which I like, but at the end of the day he seems to be a very vanella main character. Just someone you always see but don't really care about. I don't see myself following this series too much further if the MC stays the same due to how dull he is and how vibrant everyone (even the damn eagle) is.
I enjoyed this book. It is fast paced and loaded with action. The story has several weak points and the main protagonist makes foolish decisions, but overall it was a fun filled listen.
The narration was well done. I think the tone the narrator used added to the character of the protagonist. A more serious and gruff tone would have given a different image of the characters.

While the part in the beginning where the main character talks to Death is confusing as hell, the story itself was fun and entertaining. The different characters are great and the story is well written. Would have been nice to do more character building on the bad guys.
A new entry into the litrpg novel world and possibly unique. I enjoyed the story but game rules might need a bit more fleshing out. Still a good read and looking forward to the next book.
This was a surprisingly good read. Made me think of old western movies I watched as a kid. MC is fun and author is doing a good job of keeping me engaged in the story.
Started out entertaining. Feels like it might go harem which would be disappointing, since there is a lot to do with space cowboy genre. Might give the second book a try.
