An all new Doctor Who adventure featuring the Thirteenth - and first female! - Doctor reimagined in the style of Roger Hargreaves. The Doctor, Graham, and Ryan try and come up with a fabulous surprise for Yaz on her birthday. And what an explosive surprise it is . . .
Adam Hargreaves is an English author and illustrator. The son of Roger Hargreaves, he continues his father's popular Mr. Men series of children's books. Hargreaves also served as inspiration for the series. When at the age of six he asked his father "What does a tickle look like?", Roger used that question to create the first book, Mr. Tickle.
That latest in the Doctor Who meets Mr. Men and Little Miss series, as the Thirteenth Doctor takes her bow.
I revived this in my Christmas stocking, it’s such a perfect gift. The Doctor, Graham and Ryan want to surprise Yaz with a surprise birthday party.
A nice breezy quick read, Jodie’s Doctor really lends herself to this range. They’ve perfectly captured her likeness. An each story that will appeal to fans of all ages.
The new Doctor Who makes her appearance as a Mr Men/Little Miss. It's also. All three companions are here and there is a fun lightheartedness to the story. Very nice.
It's Yaz' birthday and it's up to Ryan, Graham and the Doctor to make it a good one.
It's a children's book but oh my goddess, it's the sweetest thing you'll ever read about the Doctor and her "fam". Absolutely adored it and put a huge grin on my face.
Illustrations classic, story meh. Liked that all the companions are there, but perhaps we need another season of the Thirteenth Doctor for more distinct traits to be illustrated.
'The Thirteenth Doctor' is a fun adventure for younger readers, with the classic Hargreaves style illustrations to brighten the page. Although the language is simple enough, the vocabulary extends to alien words and planets.
I’ve only seen one of Jody’s episodes, so I really can’t speak for how well this captured the characters, but the story was adorable. As always, the illustrations are super cute, too. This is a great addition to the Doctor Who/Mr. Men mash-up series.
Dr. Thirteenth is a children's picture book written and illustrated by Adam Hargreaves and is a part of the Doctor Who Meets Mr Men and Little Miss series, which tells a story about the Thirteenth Doctor, Graham, and Ryan as they try to put together a fun birthday surprise for Yaz. The Doctor travels across time and space in search of some candles, some balloons, and a cake, which makes for a rather explosive surprise.
The text is rather simple and straightforward. Hargreaves aptly captured the essence of the Thirteenth Doctor's demeanor fairly well. The illustrations are a perfect combination between the Doctor Who and the Mr Men and Little Miss universes. The Thirteenth Doctor depicted really looks like Jodie Whittaker from the Mr Men and Little Miss universe.
The premise of the book is rather straightforward. The Thirteenth Doctor and her other companions are planning a surprise party for Yaz. It combines familiar elements of the television series with whimsical wit of the original Mr Men and Little Miss stories. As this narrative was written before the Thirteenth Doctor's first series aired, it sadly is not able to refer to her previous adventures in the same way as the previous installments.
All in all, Dr. Thirteenth is a wonderful children's book about the Thirteenth Doctor and the perfect amalgamation of Dr. Who and the Mr Men and Little Miss universes.
This last book in the Doctor Who series by Adam Hargreaves is by far the closest to the original Mr. Men and therefore is also the least Doctor Who-like. Rather like the current era of the TV series! While the cartoons of the Doctor and her companions are excellent, as are the illustrations as a whole, the story strikes me as basic and infantile. But, to be fair to the author, this is a good reflection of the TV series, which is now pitched to a much younger audience than the rest of the Revived era of Doctor Who.
A 'Mr Men and Little Miss' book about the thirteenth Doctor and her three companions (though only she goes travelling in the TARDIS). It's what you'd expect.
'Doctor Who: Dr. Thirteenth' is cute, and funny for kids. It's iffy in parts in spite of the sweetness and sass, like concerning the time travel aspect (let's not get into the inclusion of World War II), but it grew on me.
Small and colourful. Always nice to see a product centering on the first female Doctor too, especially for children.
I love the Mr Men and love Doctor Who. Combine them both and you get a fantastic story for all ages! Brilliant drawings with a happy storyline just made to make you smile 😊
It’s hard to dislike these books: yes, they are silly and contrived, but also entertaining and colourful and Who-y. My main complaint about this book is that there really isn’t anything defining of Thirteen in it, aside from the inclusion of her companions. 🤷♀️
What a hoot! The hubs and I are finally reading this series I bought for him at Xmas. Both of us being Whovians, and me being a librarian and fond of the quirky “Little Mr./Miss/Ms.” series, we are amused.
This is a cute little Doctor who story, perhaps a little too young for my daughter but we both enjoy Doctor Who so much that we picked it. I had to chuckle when she told me that you can't light candles with the sonic screwdriver.
Hargreaves takes his series of Doctor Who / Mister Men mashups out in one last glorious blaze of banality. Again, the illustrations aren’t bad, but the story is pointless and what little connection it has to Doctor Who is pure Russell T Davies-era.
