Kelly Martin is an author and developmental editor who lives in a possibly haunted house in a small southern town. While she'd like to say paranormal things only happen to her at her home, it would be a lie, mainly because she searches them out in some of America's most haunted locations. Whether it is talking to the ghosts of Waverly Hills or the spirits of Thomas House Hotel, these events inevitably land in some of Kelly's books. Just wait until you read The Haunting of Micah Reed.
A world questionably real or maybe something other!
Between the Dreaming and the Dead by Kelly Martin takes the reader on a trip to a house where the few occupants don't always see each other, they can feel those they can see, and sometimes they are not able to be seen at the same time when they are in the same room! Very intriguing paranormal story! Are some ghosts, are all ghosts, or is something else going on? Such an incredible story! Keeps the reader guessing!
Kelly Martin knows how to hook you and reel you in. This book has so many different twists you don't see coming. Can't wait to see what springs forth from Kelly's mind next
Very twilight zone/ outer limits feel to this story. I liked how things pulled together - the oddities presented at the start of the story make sense the further you read.
Wowww, I LOVED this book. So many twists and turns. If this would be a movie it would be a BIG blockbuster for sure. If you wright such books than you must be a very talented great author, great job Kelly Martin xx
Wow...just wow. What a roller coaster ride that was and when you finally think you figured it out the plot takes another turn. This is why I Love Kelly Martin. She is an absolute genius!
This book is absolutely a fantastic read! I was gripped in the story immediately and could not put it down. With characters that I care about and a story that haunted me long after I finished reading, this story has so many twists that my head is still spinning. Awesome writing!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book had me hooked from beginning to end. Full of twists and turns. The author is a great writer and did a wonderful job on the story. There’s suspenseful and creepy moments. I highly recommend reading.

Took a bit to get into the book. But when I did I didn’t want to put it down. Have read other books by the author and even though this was a bit different it still was a good read.
This is only the second book in my life that I couldn't finish. I should have seen it coming when the author used the phrase "it had seen better days", to describe the house, the tree, the sofa with two pages!
This was an interesting story though a bit predictable. My complaint is the usual one, too many misspelled words, incorrect words, and grammar mistakes. What has happened to good editing? Spell check isn’t enough. Just because you spell a word correctly doesn’t necessarily mean is the right word.
Who knew that my granddaughter's pre-k teacher is actually an amazing author!
Loved the book. Loved the twists and turns. Loved that it kept me guessing almost to the very end. Just loved it! I'll definitely be buying more of Kelly Martin's books
I give this book 5 stars for the story and plot...imaginative and interesting, a departure from anything I've read before. That's what kept me from putting the book down. And the title is perfect. However, I give the writing itself 1 star. It was horrible. From the dialogue to the descriptions of characters' thoughts and actions to the sentence structure, the writing was immature (in fact, I once checked to see if this was a book intended for young people) and sloppy. What stands out is too many short sentences and too many repetitive, contradictory and sometimes even convoluted thoughts and actions of the characters, especially the main protagonist Jake. Maybe some of that was intended by the author but it only served to distract. (A few things, as described in the first few chapters, had 'seen better days'. That kind of gave me a taste of what was to come.) So, I give this book the average: 3 stars. (I'm honestly surprised by the number of 5 star reviews on Amazon.)
Fast-paced yet long-winded, If that even makes sense. It seemed to go in circles and not get anywhere even when halfway through the book.
Jake didn’t know where he was. All he knew is that he was at party and now he was on the floor of a dirt road during pouring rain. The only thing nearby was an old dilapidated house. He had no choice but to see if he could ask to use the phone. Although it didn’t seem like anyone lived there. It looked neglected and abandoned. But it wasn’t. A little old lady names Mrs. Haggard opened the fort and greeted him by name. She was expecting him. But Jake was not expecting what he’d find inside.
I found this book to be very interesting, kind of like an episode of the Twilight Zone! It pulled me in from the start and never let go! The writing felt real and I cared about the characters, great story with no unnecessary fluff which kept the pace throughout!
This was an (amazing) ghost story with a difference. What was real and what wasn't? Were we dreaming or were we sharing someone else's dream? Are we alive or are we dead. Not until you get to the end of the story do the explanations begin. Really good!
Edge of your seat page turner! I had to read it all the way thru! Kelly Martin has a way of writing!! I read one of her series and then this book! I'm reading another immediately! Keep 'an coming Kelly!!
Really enjoyed reading this Every page left me confused but wanting more, excellent story, defiantly new and very different, relatable characters and generally really good, loved it
I gave this book a four star rating because I thought it was very good. Not great, but very good. I actually fight out what was going on for the most part early on, and although I didn't have every detail I was pretty close. That being said, this one kept me reading nonstop. I liked the characters and the plot. I liked the circle. If there was one thing I didn't care for, it was how Jake managed to be in position for the final resolution. I just didn't buy that, but the rest of the book felt well written and well thought out. Bottom line? I liked it and would read more by this author. I even liked the epilogue, which was not exactly original but definitely appropriate. Why not five stars? It just didn't quite have the impact to be called great. Leave it at very good.
Unlike most everyone else on GR who has reviewed Between The Dreaming and the Dead, I didn't enjoy this at all - I though it was written like a first novel, and seemed repetitive and boring. I skimmed the last quarter of the book cos I couldn't stand reading it page by page. I'm giving it two stars instead of one because I didn't hate it.
I almost gave up reading half way through because the plot was so slow... but it picked up on the sefon half and actually loved the ending. So I'm glad I kept reading. However, please, please proofread a book before publishing it! So many grammar mistakes... it makes me cringe.
I feel like I read a different book to the one that everyone is commenting on here... five stars? It was an interesting idea, but it was rather predictable, repetitive, and much more drawn out than it needed to be 🤷🏼♀️
This was the first time I have read anything by Kelly Martin. I'm impressed. She comes at the story from a unique able that was really entertaining. The story was fast paced and concise. Will definitely look for more of her work.
A fast pace and well written book that keeps you interested from beginning to end. The reason for not 5 stars is the end. I’m sadly disappointed by an abrupt ending.
