A very sweet and very short story about innocent love in the old west. The characters are adorable and their HEA is touching. The most intriguing character in the book is Boarding House owner, Dolores. Even though she is a pivotal character, there is very little time spent with her. I wish some of her story had been included in this book. I will look for other books in this series to see if Dolores' story is told elsewhere.

This was a great story about dealing with bad behavior and in a closed minded town where one person is working on change for the town, one person at a time. I would recommend this book.

Hidden Courage is a short book that is about two people who find each other is a non conventional way, and the character that helps them along the way.

Stanley Wilder Winthorpe is a man who is shy but has dreams of moving out west and experiencing the wild life. He moves to Briarwood, Nevada and applies for a job at a bank. He is given the job and plans to work up the nerve to live out some of the things he has read about in his favorite books.

Sophia Lopez is a Mexican beauty who has been forced to make her living on the streets since the death of her parents. She does not like stealing from people, but she feels she has no choice. She steals a necklace and flees to the west in hopes of making her way to Mexico. When she arrives in Briarwood, she goes to the bank to see the necklace. She meets Stanley at the bank. The two have a connection immediately. Despite Stanley's timidness, he feels like Sophia really saw him for who he was and Sophia felt like Stanley did not judge her like so many other people have done.

The next day, Stanley is fired from his job at the bank. A customer of the bank has started a rumor that has traveled around town about the type of person Sophia is and that Stanley has been inappropriate with her. Out of money and having no place to stay, he meets Delores who runs a boarding house and offers him a place to stay. She takes on a maternal role with Stanley and encourages him to not get caught up in the small town rumor and to take a chance on Sophia. She holds a dance each year and she invites Sophia to it. At the dance, Stanley and Sophia are finally able to tell each other how they feel and discuss their future when suddenly the sheriff comes in and tries to arrest Sophia for theft of the necklace. Sophia has lied to Stanley about necklace. Does this ruin their chances at a life together? You have to get the book to see.

Stanley Winthorpe was nervously interviewing for an accounting job out West. Mr. Banks seemed unimpressed, but because he needed an accountant, he gave Stanley the job at the bank in Briarwood, Nevada, on a trial basis. Despite his dreams of living in the wild West, Stanley knew he was not the adventurous sort. He would be the first to run if trouble broke out, and he tended to avoid controversy whenever possible.

Sophia Lopez ran from the men, seeking out a hiding place until they gave up searching. Her parents had died of Scarlet Fever long ago and she had no other option but to live on the streets of New York City. She became a very clever con artist and thief in order to survive. When it was safe, she left her hiding place and spotted the stagecoach. She was able to use the last of her money to buy a ticket to Nevada and from there would continue to Texas, then Mexico, after she sold the expensive jewelry she had stolen.

Sophia went to the bank to sell the jewelry she had stolen. Stanley told her if it met certain criteria, the bank could purchase it. She explained it was a family heirloom. He finally agreed that the bank would purchase it. Will buying this item come back to hurt Stanley? Will he be able to withstand the gossip of the small town? Is anyone caring enough to help him when he loses his job and is unsure of his future?

This was a well-written story and kept the reader’s attention. The characters are very realistically portrayed and the reader can feel for them as they face difficult decisions for survival. Grab and copy and see what happens to the two main characters as they struggle to find a future for themselves.

I was given this book for my honest review: What is a girl to do when she is left on her own? Sophia’s parents died when she was young. Everyone turned their backs on her. She lived on the streets and stole and did what she needed to do to survive. Her goal was to get back to Mexico where her parents lived. She steals some jewels and heads to Mexico. She stops in Briarwood and went to the bank to sell the necklace. Stanley is working there by himself as the bank owner finally trusted him to be by himself. He buys the necklace and Sophia now has the money she needs to get to Mexico, but she decides to stay in Briarwood longer. Stanley looses his job, because a rumor is started that he was with a lady of ill repute, Sophia. The only thing he did was buy “her mother’s necklace”. Find out more about this story by reading it.

I received an earc of this copy from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my review.
The book is sweet and nice. It shows you that sometimes you can't do anything but be on a path that life is taking you. Sophia is having a hard time living on a streets of New York.
When you get an opportunity like she got, you really have to grab it with both hands and take a chance on it.
This book shows you how quick you can make a living hell for someone if you talk behind his back about things that were supposed to have happened. Don't do that. Mind your own bussiness and be the best version of yourself that you can be.
I liked this book very much. For that reason alone. You have to have a faith in people even when they don't have it in themselves.
Very nice book and can't wait for the next one in series.

Bostonian Stanley Winthorpe dreams of adventure out west when he takes an assistant banker position with Mr. Banks in Briarwood, Nevada. A misunderstanding and vicious rumor leads to his dismissal and almost his undoing when he runs out of money. Mexican immigrant Sophia Lopez is a con woman who has lived on the streets of New York City. She steals a necklace and escapes on a stagecoach west with the law chasing her. She sells this necklace to Stanley through the bank and the townspeople believe she is a woman of ill repute and he is fired for associating with her. Delores O’Hanlon runs a boarding house and she often takings in people down on their luck like Stanley finds himself. She interferes in both his and Sophia’s lives hoping to correct the wrongs and give them a chance at happily ever after together.

HIDDEN COURAGE by Annie Boone. This is a sweet and innocent love story. Stanley and Sophia are two innocents caught up in gossip that hurts them both. Sophia is a Mexican immigrant doing her best to survive on her own, even if she doesn't always go down the straight and narrow path. She is full of zest and beauty and takes Stanley's breath away. I found I liked Stanley - he isn't a typical alpha male. I found his timidness endearing and refreshing and was proud of him when he found his inner strength. Being a novella, the story flows rather quickly. I would have liked to have seen a bit more interaction between the two main characters as they worked their way towards love. However, it is a lovely, quick read that leaves the reader with a feel good feel about our lovely couple as well as the human race. (received ARC for honest review)

I LOVE Annie Boone’s stories!! Once again she has written a story featuring characters who are realistic and fit the time period!! The young country of the United States was a hard place and people were forced to do things to survive that they would never have chosen to do! Stanley and Sophia are two young people whose futures are almost ruined! Dolores is a woman with a big heart and a God given desire to help others who need a loving place to fall. I would recommend this book to anyone, including my 14 year old granddaughter, mother and mother-in-law. It is a clean sweet read. I received a free copy and have chosen to write a review.

This is a story about an innocent young man and a woman who have had to survive on her own. Both were lonely and hoping to make the best life that could could for themselves. They meet and are instantly attracted to the other. A series of unfortunate events takes place but a loving maternal figure appears and helps to get them together. I think this story would appeal to a younger reader, or someone who enjoys a simple, uncomplicated love story.

This is a sweet western romance set in Briarwood, Nevada. This is book 1 of the Boarding House Misfits Series. I am so glad there are more books to follow as one is not enough. This is a wonderful and quick story about the adventures of Sophia, a New York street urchin and thief, and Stanley, a shy banker starting a new job in the Wild West. Add in Dolores, the owner of the boarding house, and you have a fantastic story. This is the first book I have read by Annie Boone, but it will not be the last! Highly recommend!

What does it take to stand against everyone in town who believe you have done something terrible? Stanley Winthorpe takes a new job at the local bank and is thrown into a difficult situation. When his boss decides that Stanley can be trusted, he takes a day off. When Stanley is confronted with one Sophia Lopez who wants to sell her necklace, things get a little out of hand. Both are 'tried and convicted' so-to-speak, through rumor. When he stands up to the rumor, he is fired.

I recieved this book free for an honest review. This is a great book ABOUT a young orphan girl. She lost both her parents at an early age in a house fire and was sent to live with her fathers best friend. Everyone thought that when she turned 8 she would marry Their son. She was also supposed to inherit her fathers cotton mill business. This is her struggle to find her own way in life with the help of God.

Stanley Winthrope always dreamed of living in the west. He settled in Briarwood, Nevada. Sophia Lopez is running from the law and boards a stagecoach in New York City heading west. Sophia hoped to travel to Mexico and find relatives unfortunately she runs out of money and ends up in Briarwood, NV. Things get very interesting for Stanley, can be and Sophia find love? This is a relaxing Christian romance and book one of a series. I hope you enjoy Ms Boone's new book.

This is an unusual tale about someone who really shouldn't be in the west. He meets a woman who makes him feel alive, but she costs him his job. Sophia is colorful and outrageous, but thrown to the streets after her parents died. She steals to eat and make her way to Mexico. With the help of the boarding house lady, these two try to make a life for themselves. For me, the whole thing is wrapped up too tidy, after all the damage has been done. But the story in itself is fun.

Sweet story of second chances and redemption. We could all strive to be more like Delores O’Hanlon finding the good in people and understanding their weaknesses without judgment. I recommend this book especially for fans of historical Christian fiction set in the “Old West".

A young man a misfit in every sense of the word but endearing and a beautiful lady that everyone seems to fine fault in because she's different. Joined together by circumstance and falling in love despite the opposition and what it might cost them. Hidden courage is a wonderful book. Although it went by too quickly, I enjoyed it.
