There's a new Dad in the cul-de-sac... and he's already sunk his fangs into the neighborhood! But Robert knows a vampire when he sees one, and he's armed with enough garlic and rewatches of F. W. Murnau's Nosferatu (1922) to get to the bottom of this mystery.
2,5 estrellas. Esta historia me gusto mucho más que la primera, el arte es más de mi gusto pero sigue siendo una trama tan cortita que no llegas a empatizar con los personajes, me gustaría leer más de Damien y Robert.
was telling my friends about this right after reading it, it's so silly, fun and just an overall good read! damien's my favourite dream daddy character, so seeing him as a main character in this story was such a nice treat :))
My problem with individual issues of comic books (my issue with issues, I guess) is always that there's not enough substance. They're like the literary equivalent of pomegranate--all that effort for a tiny taste of something. I almost always wait for the trade paperback. But... they were a couple of bucks and I enjoy the Dream Daddy universe, so I read the first three Dream Daddy issues.
The first one "Much Abird about Nothing," was the strongest storyline of the three. Craig's relationship with the protagonist dad (protagodad?) is really sweet, and it's a solid, though slight, story. It reads really similar to the way the game plays.
The second, "Let the Right Dad In," didn't connect as strongly for me. I appreciated that the main story was between Robert and Damien, with protagodad glimpsed only in passing, and I enjoyed the title but... it just felt really silly, and not in an enjoyable way, and there wasn't much I cared about.
The third, "Dream Ad-y," was sweet. I really love Mat, and was prepared to love his story. And I did enjoy it.
Overall, I enjoyed the comics enough to finish them, but I don't think I'll buy four through six. And I'm usually a completist. I did enjoy the art, and I liked the way the different dads were portrayed by different artists, including a different protagodad in each story. There just wasn't enough there there.
I might give them another chance when they're collected as a trade paperback; I suspect they'll feel more substantive as part of a larger whole.
Okay so I probably should've started with Dream Daddy #1 but this one was about Damien and he was my FAVOURITE DADDY OKAY
So I probably never mentioned this, but I was a HUGE fan of Dream Daddy: Dating Simulator. For those who don't know, Dream Daddy: Dating Simulator is a game where you create your own custom-built Daddy and then go on dates with local neighbourhood dads, and I LOVED it. My Daddy was called Charles Humperdink. He was an alternative Daddy with a fondness for dark hair and cat t-shirts. I did my utmost to match him with Dream Daddy Damien, aka Vampire Daddy, but alas, he dumped us at the last minute and I was FUMING. I swear I have never been so enraged by a break-up in all my born days. Anyway.
I found out there were Dream Daddy comics in existence and immediately had to read them. I have to be honest, there isn't a huge amount of content here - I can only assume there's going to be a big bind-up of stories about different daddies because this was the SHORTEST story I have ever read and if anything only left me with an even greater craving for Dream Daddy content. I'll probably wait to see if this happens and then buy a physical copy for my comic collection, because this is really fun but also WILDLY expensive. £1.97 for 25 pages?? I think not.
Anyway I can't wait to add Dream Daddy to my collection of cute queer comics. I only have like, two so far, but try and stop me from acquiring more, I dare you!
Turns out Robert really does have a separate room dedicated to cryptid hunting and dreams in german expressionism and... that's all I wanted to know. Also, that's a nice side story to the game with less dark* shenanigans than in-game Robert route prepared us for.
*he only wants to stake a neighbor... all in good will. But we all saw the issue's cover, didn't we?
Don't get me wrong - this Dream Daddy comic was still golden. It just wasn't as fun as the first one (but also I'm obsessed with Daddy/Craig pairing, so I'm biased). I thought if we at least saw everyone else that would be a lot of fun but your Daddy wasn't even involved. Other then that, it was still a cute romp through Maple Bay. Art was stunning!
Dream Daddy comics have once again put out another cute installment- this time starring Bad Dad and Goth Dad! It also tells the story of Betsy and any story with a dog is an automatic plus from me.
El segundo número se centra en cómo se conocieron Robert y Damien y lo que pasó después. Es bastante gracioso por cómo es Robert y todos los malos entendidos. Mary, como siempre, lo borda. Recomendado para los aficionados al videojuego homónimo.
I remember trying to play this game and the only reason I didn’t finish is because I wished so hard to just read their stories and see who belongs to who to be the happiest.
This was stupid. Robert was always my least favorite but i didn’t expect to officially dislike this? The camp levels here were not my style and it just left me annoyed
There's not much to say about this graphic novel, since it's so tied up in the game and, to a lesser extent, other graphic novels in the series. It's short, and it's light on plot. This is really more of an excuse for fans to revisit favorite characters. Which I am down for. Damien was one of my preferred dads in the game (along with Hugo and Mat), so it was nice to get some new Damien content. It's really for fans, and I think fans will enjoy it.
The following review is based off my own opinions, thoughts and reactions. So in other words brace yourself. *There may be inappropriate words such as curse words.* You have been advised in advance.*
As always, I'm diving head deep down the rabbit hole that is the Dream Daddy fandom. Please do not send help, I don't want it because I'm loving it down here. Just as much as I'm loving the most recent addition to the Dream Daddy comic series! So grab your popcorn, my sweets. I'm about to sink my teeth deep into this review!
Oh my glob! We finally get some details on Robert! If you never played Dream Daddy before/yet, Robert is basically Bad Boy Daddy. He drinks his shots, you find him skulking in graveyards or out in the woods, and he makes A LOT of grunts in form of communication. He's basically your thrill ride in the game. I'm even more happy to see that this has overlapped into this comic. However, I definitely wasn't expecting him to be such a heavy believer in monsters. That fact that we get to see Robert's cryptic, monster hunter, secret room is just the best! We hardly get many details about Robert in the game, but oh my glob did this comic deliver the juicy details. I want to point out that we get to see little piece's of his daughter Val before she ended up moving away and becoming a corporate hot shot in photography. The fact that Robert still has pieces of Val's childhood just melts my heart and pulls at my heart strings. I need Robert and Val moments! Please! Anyway! Super happy that we finally get to see a little more insight into our friendly Bad Boy Daddy. Those details are just what us fans needed!
Then we have Vampire Daddy. That's right Twilight fans! If you've always wanted a vampire to be your dream daddy, look no further because this comic gives us that dad! I'm so glad we get Vampire Daddy in this comic because he's basically super mysterious and in the game, even with game players, Vampire Daddy gives people the chills and creeps. Also, we get to see him working at the animal shelter with Mary. He's like a precious little bean who needs to be protected. It's so good. I think the major part is we get to see a little into his relationship with his son. It's really rough and filled with arguments, but even though they are both upset with one another they still say they love each other. I think that's such a heart melting moment because in the game we don't see that bit in their relationship in the game. We just see them constantly arguing or fighting with one another. So the fact our lovely creators added this in for us really gives me hope for those two.
The we have that amazing ending. GUYS! That ending! I'm so glad we finally learn how Betsy ended up coming into the picture because that ending was amazing. Not to mention that explains how Mary (Joseph's Wife), Robert (Bad Boy Daddy), and Damien (Vampire Daddy) all ended up becoming close to one another. It was such a great way to end that comic. Can I just say I really wish this bit was included into our lovely Dream Daddy game because I have a mighty need for it! Or at least gives us some text drops in the game! I'm dying for something! Such a good ending though! Super funny and as always, adorable!!!
This comic just steals my breath guys. Robert is life. Damien is life. DREAM DADDY IS LIFE!!!! So good guys, so good! You need to go read these comics. They're just too juicy and adorable to not emerge yourself into this fandom. So many ships, so many hot dads, so many cute moments!
