A good book to understand how the Scandinavians view the old gods as symbols and forces of nature instead of divine beings if that is what you are looking for.

This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Invaluable not only to Norwegians, but to anyone of Germanic or general European heritage. It gives a great overview of all the High Festivals observed by our ancestors and the meaning behind them. It has been a pleasure to read, thank you Vegard.
