'Write to me Emmi. Writing is like kissing, but without lips. Writing is kissing with the mind'

Two strangers, who meet through the internet because of a simple typing mistake. They come close in a way they never had expected. Leo and Emmi built up a strong connection, talking about things, they never talked about to anyone. Anonymity turns into a sort of intimacy. With the wish to meet face to face, struggles appear too.

I saw the advertisment of the movie based on this book in cinema. It made me curious that how good can a book be, that consists only of email conversations between two people. I got a surprise. I got addicted. And I couldn't stop reading. Then I needed to read the second part 'Every seventh wave' immideately!
An unexpected good read for in between.

I had purchased these books mainly for the cover, but it was equally good otherwise as well. I still remember reading it for the first time and enchanted by it also I had to wait for the second book for a while. This time I read both the books one after the other, and it was such a relief as I could go on with the sequel. I love epistolary novels. I think a letter brings real and the deepest human emotions out. Reading Emmi and Leo's e-mail exchange did feel as if I am intruding in their private lives, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

"I'm the kind of person who has to assume the worst: it's how I build up my defences against my worst fears being realized"

I agree that Emmi was annoying and very volatile with regards to her emotions, but who isn't? (I know I am one of those). But Leo was the matured and the calmer one. This was a refreshing re-read for sure.

To pokračovanie bolo podľa mňa úplne zbytočné písať. Občas je naozaj lepšie nechať pracovať čitateľovu fantáziu. Druhý diel je omnoho slabší a ja osobne by som sa vôbec nehnevala, keby vôbec nebol napísaný.

bought Love Virtually on international book fair "Big Bad Wolf 2020". while reading Every Seventh Wave in kindle. i did listen to the audiobook too! (Awww Emmi sounds so dignified isn't she. I'd imagine her sounding so vivacious and excited)

i must admit at first i regretted why i bought the book, since i dislike affair theme. yeah, the title clicked on me ahaha.
BUT as i went on, i'd say the book is really hilarious!!! The turn around of Leo confessions were so baffling. Everytime he got drunk, it's so cuteeee~ (what is it? writing like kisses? ahahaha)
I got why Leo was so stirred because of Emmi's gameplan (The time Leo and Mia got together as for revenge, wow that's a ploy behind a ploy!). As someone's "happily married", i'd have uttered covertly as Emmi did. Well, eventually Emmi did confess she loved Leo, but also loved Benhard and his children.

The writer did well on Emmi's character. She's so sweet but also irritating me many times for her ludicrous- arrogance personality. I don't know if i should be happy with the ending. i mean, yes it's really a happy ending for them but then we're upholding an affair!
what about Bernhard, he must be wailing since Emmi is his Raison D'être. Bernhard even ventured himself, who's even dare as him as to ask his endearing wife to make love with another man!

I read the English translation, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone looking for a love story that starts out inoccuously, and slowly captivates you throughout the pages -- this is the book for you. I quickly fell in love with the characters as their quips and mannerisms became evident and they became more fallible and real. Also, for reasons better left unexplained, the characters are never truly described, which leaves the reader free to completely create them in their own mind.

In short, this book captivated me (especially the ending!), and I look forward to reading the sequels very much.

April 14, 5pm - bought the book.
April 14, 5.30pm - started first part.
April 15, 3am - finished first part.
(Meanwhile: went to a café, chatted with friends, came back home and wrote 5 articles for my job)

April 15, 4pm - started second part.
April 15, 8.30pm - finished second part.
(Meanwhile: enjoyed a family gathering, went to a café, made a new friend and came back home)

In total: 14,5 hours. 448 pages. 1 page, 2 minutes. Besides lots of extra activities.

Are all these numbers enough to describe how magical this series is?

My God! what annoying characters! How is it possible to quarrel so much with someone you don't know? Why so bitchy (goes for both of them)? They seem like 14 year old girls!
Neither of them seem very sympathetic. I just got frustrated, and as I almost popped mye eyes because of all the rolling, I just gave up. There are too many good books waiting to be read to waste my time with something like this.

Expected Rating: 2.5
Post-Read Rating: 4.5

Would I recommend it?:
Honestly speaking, yes. This book cost me roughly $3, and another $3 for the second book, for the price it's a really good pick up. I've never heard of it before, thus my expectations were set pretty low and the story blew me away. I'm itching to start the second book!

Overall, Spoiler-free thoughts:
The story has a really cool format, by which I mean it is entirely made up of emails between characters. The main characters are a bit dull in the beginning, so is their conversation and the storm, so much so that I almost did not finish it, dropping it around mid march. But, not to worry, it does pick up eventually. When I say the story gets more interesting, I mean, the characters get more interesting, because it is such a character driven story. The way that the main characters write their emails are so interesting because it feels like how it would be with an actual online acquaintance, with both parties hesitant and a little standoffish.
This story can be quite hit or miss, though. I feel as though there will be a portion of readers who will dislike the female protagonist or the male protagonist, or maybe even both. And quite honestly, the premise of the story is so realistic that I think despite being fiction, this could very well be happening right now.
There's also a lot of quotes that I've underlined. I've currently put this under my reread pile simply because there are a lot of quotes and parts that I wish to annotate.

Ano.
Dalo mi nakonec dvojvydání příjemný pocit uspokojení, jak to zase jednou nějaké literární dvojici krásně vyšlo? Ano, to bezpochyby.
Vážně i takto banálně? No jasně.

Inu, "I want to believe".

I loved the premise and structure of this book. Emmi and Lex were characters that slowly build on you over time. Got me thinking about digital and physical relationships a lot and the benefits and disadvantages of each in the long term. Also made me appreciate the nuance of in person conversation and the role of eye contact, body language and the environment to help build chemistry between two people. All these things don’t exist in the digital world and that can affect the nature of conversations you have there. The author did a great job building the back story of the characters in this novel and also experimented quite well with the electronic email form in fiction. We need more stories like this for sure! So much to explore here.

These two drive me mad with their overthinking but their emails are at the same time completely addictive. I can't say I'd recommend these books, I can't even say I really enjoyed them, but the fact is I just couldn't stop reading their waffle so the author clearly did something right. And just occasionally there were some profound moments in this deeply over-analytical study of a pretty bizarre relationship.

One of the very few novels that I picked till now, but believe me whoever loves to read love stories this story will not let you sleep and will call you back to read the email exchanges between the two unknowns! I felt the seventh wave could have been added into love virtually. The plot is thin because so much had already been established. One or two surprises but could have been one book. Reviewing it as such, I loved it as a whole, and it was well worth getting to the end. ❤️
