"We all have to do our part if we're to survive the coming storm."

Alexandra Jennings might be the hero of The Medoran Chronicles, but she would be lost without her three closest friends. They are her heroes, and like all heroes, they each have their own story.

Meet the real D.C. in Crowns and Curses and discover how she becomes the princess Alex once despised but now adores.

Follow Jordan on his healing journey in Scars and Silence as he struggles in the wake of being rescued from his living nightmare.

Walk beside Bear in Hearts and Headstones as he faces an unspeakable trauma while helping his world prepare for the coming war.

D.C., Jordan and Bear are the heroes of their own stories.

It is time for their stories to be told.

**Re-Read Feb 19**

Let me reaffirm my original statement that THIS IS SUCH AN IMPORTANT BOOK.

Now, since I'm re-reading, let me go into a little more detail of each story as I finish them. You can read my original gushing a little further down.

WARNING: This review contains spoilers for the first four books in the series

FIRST UP!

Crowns & Curses
The book opens with DC at age 13, trying to deal with an episode of bullying that occurred five years earlier. I haven't hugely connected with DC over the series but this is the story that softened my heart towards her. She's actually such a strong character, and knowing this history tugs at the heart! Bullying is a widespread problem and this little story gives some insight into how to handle bullies, which is fantastic for a YA novel. Maxton is a turd who we can't help but hate, but even still there's allusion to the bad things he's been through that led him down that path, without taking away from the pain he's caused. Add to that guest appearances from some of our faves, and Alex's arrival from DCs point of view and we have a fantastic little story of how a princess became the BFF of our beloved heroine. It doesn't re-tell things we already know, but it does give us a different angle to view the story from.

NEXT UP:

Scars & Silence

Look, if you're not on board ship Jordix you may find yourself rolling your eyes a fair bit. But it's important to remember that this story is pretty much the reason this book exists, and it's a meaningful story.

This story runs parallel to the early events of Graevale, and explores how Jordan heals after his experiences at the end of Draekora. It deals with trauma, and even though no one can really relate to being mind-controlled by a Meyan, trauma is familiar enough a concept.

Trauma is ugly, and dealing with it is a process unique to each person. But this short story explores the depths of trauma, and how it can affect many aspects of a person's thoughts and behaviours. How Jordan deals with his experiences may or may not be relatable to other trauma survivors, but it does give insight and I think it sends a pretty important message about using pain to grow.

I love this story. It's still our favourite characters in a fictional, magical world, but there's a reality to Jordan's experiences and it's an important character development for the whole series. But it's not all dark and depressing - there's still some fantastic light-hearted moments and joking around to keep things balanced.

FINAL ACT:

Hearts & Headstones

Guh. As if our hearts weren't going to get hurt with a title like that!

Again, we're running parallel to Graevale, just a little further along. This one probably relates the most to the rest of the series, with things that happen in this story being likely to play a role in the final installment. At the same time, Bear's story looks more at the weight of protecting loved ones, and the lengths people will go to. This one has a strong family vibe, which is unsurprising since we've all grown to love the friendly Ronnigans over the course of the previous novels. Bear is dedicated to his friends, but he's also getting to know Declan a little better, so we can expect to see more of that blossoming relationship in Vardaesia, I imagine. It's nice to get further insight into who Bear is, as opposed to his inseparability from Jordan.

Some more heavy themes in this one but ultimately it feels more like a perfect setup for the final showdown.

So I guess this is it.

*deep breath*

Vardaesia, here I come.

**Original Review**

Let me delay my gushing over how much I love this series to say, THIS IS SUCH AN IMPORTANT BOOK.

Fantasy stories always have bad things happening to good people. Death, torture, imprisonment ... our heroes all go through some pretty rough times.

What they rarely have is a full appreciation of the aftermath. Our heroes overcome all these things in maybe a page or two of feeling bad then deciding to get on with things. We rarely get the detailed psychological process that would be involved for us mortals in the Real World.

The four previous books in this series are told from Alex's POV, and her three friends play a major role, which means they all experience bad things. The three novellas in this book, told from the viewpoints of DC, Jordan and Bear, explore what it takes to recover from trauma, and just how complicated the process is. I'm sure there will be differing opinions as to how well it was done, but I think the important thing here is that it's actually spoken of.

Fantasy is such an escape, and I'm sure many of us have moments of wishing our life was like that of our heroes. Wanting to explore wonderful places, cast magic spells, meet supernatural (and often super hot) beings. So it is a breath of fresh air to believe that maybe our fantasy heroes experience similar pain and suffering that can be found in our own lives. That it takes work to overcome these things.

So that's my first big thumbs up for this book: thank you for talking about the seriousness of these things.

Now, please, allow me to gush.

I love this series. It's got such a good blend of fantasy setting with real world problems and characters. Alex has always been an endearing hero because she's not all, 'I must save the world and I am the only one who can'. She's sassy AF, loves her friends and is more like, 'aw man, why do I have to be the one to do it?' and 'well then I'm bringing all my friends and you can't stop me'. She appreciates the support she has around her. I love that.

DC, Jordan and Bear have been by her side through the past four books, experiencing a lot of the nasty stuff.

YOU ARE NOW ENTERING THE SPOILER ZONE
The rest of this review may contain spoilers for the previous four books of the series

So the first novella is DC's. I gotta be honest - she has never really been my favourite character. I mean, she was kinda rude in the first book, and then kinda just meh because she's less sassy than everyone else. I liked her, but that was about it.

Crowns and Curses has given me newfound respect for her. It explores why she was such an ice queen when we met her in Akarnae and it actually made my heart hurt a little. Particularly when she met Jordan and Bear for the first time. <3 This novella takes a closer look at bullying, and it is really interesting to see the psychological impact of it. Really enjoyed it.

The second novella, Scars and Silence, is the most powerful, and looks at how Jordan is recovering after (I ALREADY WARNED YOU ABOUT SPOILERS) being Claimed by Aven then released by Alex. He bounces back pretty quick in Graevale so it was really great to read this more detailed account of what was actually going on in his head. There's some interesting stuff regarding his brother, too, and I really appreciated the way it was dealt with so open-mindedly. Plus Jordix for the win! They're so cute together! Bless.

The third story, Hearts and Headstones begins with familiar events from Graevale however we're given Bear's point of view so it's a different take. His story is more about the drama of its last few chapters, but it was still interesting to see the budding friendship between him and Declan. (I'm secretly hoping it doesn't turn into romance though because then everyone is coupled up and I hate it when that happens. I'm totally here for the bromance, though.)

Yeah, this whole book gave me another case of the feels.

Apparently there's stuff in this book that will be important for the next, but nothing felt hugely important to the story progression (except for maybe that lil scene with Marcus). This is more like going back and seeing how the pieces were picked up and put back together, so that we can appreciate the scars and the trauma everyone has overcome and become stronger from.

Devastating lack of Kaiden, though. I miss him.

Summary: Same lovable characters with greater depth, and Alex is barely in it at all so this is firmly a 'Sidekicks' story. It reflects on some serious issues that readers may actually experience themselves so it's quite an important addition to the series to show how these things can be overcome.

Like I wasn't already impatient enough for Vardaesia!

We Three Heroes is #4.5 in the Medoran Chronicles where we get insights into the lives of Alexandra Jennings’ three best friends. It starts in Crowns & Curses, with an almost fourteen year old Princess Delucia, a child whose position has made her a lonely young woman, especially after cruel bullying when she was only eight. The day of her birthday was when Delucia discovered she was heading for the Academy, the school for the talented and gifted called Akarnae. She was excited and nervous – hoping she would make friends but scared to do so. She also wanted no one – except certain teachers – to know who she was. DC entered Akarnae…

Jordan Sparker started at the Academy at the same time as DC but it was instant dislike. Jordan thought she was stuck up while DC couldn’t stand his jokey, rude manner. Years passed and Scars & Silence sees Jordan return to Akarnae after a torturous time. His heart was broken, full of guilt and nightmares – but Jordan was surrounded by his friends and people who cared. It would be a big struggle for Jordan in the coming weeks…

In the 3rd and last part of We Three Heroes, we have Bear’s story – Hearts & Headstones. Bear and Jordan had been best friends since they were young, and Bear was the fourth in the group of friends at Akarnae. Bear – Barnold Ronnigan – had a close family bond with his father, mother, Gammy, two brothers and a little sister, plus Jordan had been included in the family dynamics as well. As Bear, Jordan, DC and Alex helped each other as they prepared Medora for war with the Meyarins and Aven Dalmarta, the future looked bleak. But they were determined to prevail…

Oh wow! I am loving this series and can’t believe I only have one book to go before it’s finished ☹ We Three Heroes by Aussie author Lynette Noni was excellent, giving the reader background into the three support characters to Alex and I loved it. It’s a book that needs to be read in order though as it wouldn’t make a lot of sense read out of context. Highly recommended.

They were hermits trusted companions.Because unlike people, books didn't care if you were a princess or a pauper. Their content didn't change depending on whose eyes travelled over their pages. Books just were.

*i recommend you read books 1-4 before reading this novella otherwise you will be spoiled!! *

I will now think of D.C, Jordan and Bear as main characters and not sidekicks because they are much more than that and this novella proved that.

Crowns and Curses: The first story inside this novella is told from D.C's prospective as we see her before she starts at Akarnae Academy and way before she becomes friends with Alex, Jordan and Bear. I really enjoyed seeing D.C from before she was at the school because we only get a small insight in the main series to what she's really like and this novella story goes way more in depth.

D.C is way more then the princess that she is portrayed herself to be in the public life, she is well aware of everything happening around her and she isn't someone you would want to get on the bad side of. D.C is incredibly loyal and will always put her friends before herself and she slowly learns to let people in and start to trust them a lot more where as before she was incredibly timid and shy and didn't like letting people in but you can see the growth she has gone through over the four books plus this novella. One pivotal moment in her story is when she stands up for herself when the kid staying with her has been bullying her every time he stays there but one day she actually stands up for herself and this is where her true character stands out, D.C goes from a timid and shy girl to this incredibly strong woman who can handle her self in ways that you wouldn't expect.

D.C and Jordan's relationship is also expanded on in this novella we get to see how she starts to get feelings for him but it's a slow burning one right up until the events where Jordan is put under Aven's control and this is where we see that shift and it was good to see how D.C actually felt about it rather then us seeing it just from Alex's perspective.

D.C truly has my heart and she will defiantly play a huge role in the upcoming war and will defiantly help Alex take down Aven in the end.

Scars and Silence: This one follows Jordan and as he takes on the journey of self healing and recovery after being put under the control of Aven. To me i think Jordan is suffering from PTSD after the events of book three and it's defiantly harder for him to be his usual self after still thinking he can be put under control at any time and he has that looming over him for the entire fourth book and this novella to.

Alex, Bear and D.C are all there for him and are trying to help him with his recovery process which to me left me with such admiration for the other three because they never once left Jordans side and continued to check up and spend time with him whenever they could. However Jordan goes through the motions of not keeping his friends informed of whats going on inside his head and does keep a lot of things to himself up until Bear catches him up on it and ends up helping him get his feelings and emotions out there and tells him not to bottle them up which i think is one thing you can do as a friend, just be there for someone who's going through a rough time.

Jordan and D.C's relationships is written more in this story then D.C's one and we see them two go on little outings after lights out where they just sit out in the groups and talk to each other and i think these little outings are helping both of them and they defiantly get Jordan to open up more.

Hearts and Headstones: I have a new found love for bear and this story in the novella was my favourite one out of the three even though i enjoyed all three equally. Bear is the character out of the four that we don't really know much about and isn't much of a presence in helping in major storylines of the book but this one is where it was Bears time to shine. Bear is the very smart and nerdy one of the group who can come up with some extremely good experiments and ideas in the moments that need them and they are usually really good.

Bear is also a really goofy and loyal friend that truly does help Alex, Jordan and D.C and has there best interest at heart and does everything in his power to make sure of this. Bear is an absolute star and is one of the strongest characters in this series and he gets this from is Grandmother who he resembles in every way in which i find very admirable trait of his. My heart was absolutely breaking for bear again when reading the scene where he sees his father's death in the battle and him returning home to be with his family, i just had a little connection with him in that moment because i've been in a similar scenario before.

One last thing that i just want to mention is that the Bear and Declan friendship really surprised me and i think there might be something going on there but i could be completely wrong and i probably am but these two have so much warmth and kindness towards each other it just come across like that to me while reading this story. The two really opened up to each other and this is something that i don't think Bear has done since becoming friends with Jordan, i might be just making up some terrible 'fan fiction' it's just a thought that i had while reading it.

This novella really does set up where all the characters are at this point in the story and where they will be when book five picks up when it's released. Every character has a job to do in this upcoming war and everyone knows what they need to do to succeed however i don't think everyone will come out a live in this war and i already have some people in mind.

I would love for everyone to come out of this war alive but in every war there are casualties and there are those who make it through.

i have so many predictions now of what is going to happen but i won't put them in this review, In conclusion my heart is full but it's also very sad because all these characters have gone through so much in this series and this was only the beginning and things will get worse before they get better.

I'm always on the fence about novellas, especially when you don't know how it ties into the story and whether it is actually mandatory reading. But we've followed D.C., Bear and Jordan throughout Alex's journey for 4 books now, and I'm so glad to hear that we got to hear from their point of view here. Most of it is told concurrently to Draekora/Graevale so that's definitely required reading before picking up this one.

The first story, Crowns and Curses talks about D.C.'s life as a princess growing up and how she distances herself against others. She's lonely, abandoned and very standoffish, and we find out why D.C. is the way she is the first time she meets Alex. This probably wasn't my favourite story of the book, particularly since I wasn't too invested in D.C.'s origin story, even though I was glad to hear a bit more about the Princess's early life.

The second story, Scars and Silence was my favourite as we hear from Jordan's point of view as he recovers from the traumatic events of Draekora. I always wondered about what Jordan was going through, and how he copes with everything, and it definitely fills in some of the gaps of the story. I also loved hearing more about his romance with a certain red-head, and that was sweet too given there's not that much romance in the main series.

The final story, Hearts and Headstones shows us more about Bear and his investment in learning about inventions. Given that Bear is usually a side character that we know so little about, it was great to see his close connections with his family and how he deals with the loss at the end of Graevale. I also sensed a bit of romantic tension between him and Declan, which I wish was explored further, given that there's no hint of LGBT relationships in The Medoran Chronicles.

If you love the Medoran Chronicles, picking up We Three Heroes is definitely a no-brainer, revealing more about Alex's trio of friends and about their feelings towards the end of the series. Definitely a great instalment to tide us over before the last book!

I received a review copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

MILD SPOILERS FOR WE THREE HEROES, MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE PREVIOUS FOUR BOOKS IN THE SERIES.

A sweet, sad but gorgeous collection of 3 novellas from the POV of the three best friends of Alex - Dix, Jordan and Bear.

Dix’s novella starts you off by explaining why she was so bitter at the start of Akarnae, and then leads to her POV as she becomes friends with Jordan, Bear and Alex and then as Jordan is possessed. Jordan’s book is from his POV as he is rescued from Aven’s possession, and how he recovers from it. Bear’s story finishes it off with Bear’s POV when he breaks his leg, and finishes when Bear’s dad dies.

Throughout Dix’s story you understand how her life was before Akarnae, when she didn’t have any friends. Jordan’s explains his hard journey back after being possessed, and you see that many people offered and helped him behind the scenes. Bear’s story shows as he gets closer to Declan (who else is shipping them as hard as me 😍) and then explains his emotions when William dies.

Thank you Lynette Noni for writing this sweet novella collection, just enough to both satisfy us in the wait for Vardaesia and to make us want it even more.

I am so loving this author and this series!

Normally I don't bother with the .5 books in a series because they seldom tie into the story but We Three Heroes is definitely a must read.

This book is written as 3 short stories from the POVs of DC, Jordan, and Bear. We get their back stories and their feelings on what is going on in this adventurous tale.

You will have to read the first 4 books in order to understand what is going and I do have to stress that this book will give the reader more insight into the story.

Now I'm really jonsing for the 5th and final book of this series.

Contains spoilers for Akarnae, Raelia, Draekora and Graevale.

Crowns And Curses is narrated by Princess Delucia Cavelle, heir to the Medoran Kingdom. As a young girl, D.C was well acquainted with the expectations of representing the Medoran crown, the increasing loneliness as she was sheltered from public life and educated within the palatial residence. D.C yearns for companionship, believing she has found a friend in Maxton, the young son of the High Court Judge but Maxton is deceptive and determined to humiliate the young princess.

As her prophetic ability manifests, Delucia receives an invitation to Akarnae Academy. A new beginning and a chance to connect with her peers. At Akarnae, D.C is without her Princess title but with years of isolation and protecting her emotions, she becomes estranged from her fellow students before being introduced to Alexandra Jennings.

Scars And Silence accompanies Jordan Sparker throughout his journey of empowerment after which his life was claimed and manipulated by Aven Dalmarta. Jordan is experiencing a crisis of identity, betrayal and consumed by his affliction. Through compassion and understanding, Jordan begins to acknowledge his anxiety and is encouraged by Delucia and Hunter, two positive influences within his life.

Jordan continues to blame himself for the death of his brother, adding to his anguish.

Hearts And Headstones is narrated by Barnold Ronnigan, affectionately known as Bear and surrounds the journey to Graevale as diplomatic emissaries, ending in anguish for the Ronnigan family. Bear finds solace within his tentative friendship and potential relationship with Declan. Amidst the devastation, the apprehensive smiles of the potential romance is beautiful.

We Three Heroes offers readers an insight into the significant moments that shape each character throughout the series, from each characters point of view. The brave, tentative and vulnerable moments that add depth and humanity to characters we typically see as indestructible.

The Medoran Chronicles is a phenomenal series, adventurous, imaginative and superbly written. Lynette Noni is a prolific author, creating atmospheric worlds and vibrant characters. I've fallen in love with reading all over again.

*RE-READ FEB 2019*

I’ve come to the conclusion that Jordan’s novella is probably my favourite. It’s so raw and full of emotion and I can’t help but melt learning more about this character and how he became who he is and how he deals with certain events.

*ORIGINAL REVIEW*

It's probably time I reviewed this one, seeing as I read it so long ago!

This companion bind-up of the D.C., Jordan and Bear novellas is a beautiful and brilliant addition to The Medoran Chronicles, and one that is so incredibly important for fans of the series to read. Not only does it contain information to bridge the gap between books four and five, it deals with some very real and complex issues.

Crowns and Curses
Meeting D.C. and discovering what makes her who she is makes this a beautifully written novella that D.C. fans need to read. Lynette takes us into the mind of everyone's favourite princess and shows us who she really is.

Scars and Silence
I think Jordan's novella is my favourite of the three. It deals with some incredibly real and topical issues that prove Lynette is more than just a fantasy writer. She has tackled each of these issues with incredible care and respect and will make you sob into your pillow as you learn more about Jordan and his family.

Hearts and Headstones
Anyone who has already read book four in The Medoran Chronicles will have a good idea of the topic of this novella. Once again we see Lynette delving deep into some heavy issues and dealing with them perfectly. Bear is the sweetest guy and we get to meet and understand not only him better, but also some of the other supporting characters in this series we can't help but love.

The entire bind-up is a perfect blend of exciting plot and intriguing character studies that give us as readers the chance to meet Alex's strength and hope. Alex may be strong, but she couldn't do this without her best friends, and this novella shows us why.

I received a copy from Pantera in exchange for an honest review. (THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU)

For me novellas are always tricky because they’re trying to blend in with the main story without repeating too much and I can often find them boring because they don’t always have enough content for me.

But this was definitely not the case for these beautiful novellas.
This is the perfect companion for fans to read and cuddle during the long days before Vardaesia arrives in our lives.

We Three Heroes was the perfect balance between stories we haven’t read before and knowing whereabouts they fit throughout the main books. I loved getting to know DC, Jordan and Bear even more and getting a better view into their lives, past and present.

SECOND READ 18/02/19 - 4 stars

I just read my first "review" for this book and wow: I cursed myself. Massively. I was in a book slump my entire reread of this series, so good job me. Way to go, jinxing yourself like that.

But anyway, bumped this down half a star and now I feel terrible. I'm going to blame it on the book slump again and forcing myself to finish this book so I can get to Vardaesia.

Crowns and Curses - 3.5 stars
It was good to get an insight into D.C.'s past and really understand how she came to act the way she did to Alex when she first arrived at Akarnae. It was also really good to see that D.C. understood that it was her behaviour that lead to her unhappiness, even if it was a product of her protecting herself. This had a lot of important messages to tell about bullying and isolating yourself, and I enjoyed it, although I would have changed the jumps forward in time slightly.

Scars and Silence - 4 stars
This one made me feel like crying. I didn't, but I felt that feeling in my chest that you get when you're about to cry, although it didn't quite get to the tears welling up in my eyes stage. Minor prickling perhaps. This one also has a few really important messages in it.

Hearts and Headstones - 3.75
The nearly crying feeling struck again, although this one also made me laugh so balance. We don't really get to learn a whole heap about Bear in the rest of the series because Alex's friendship with D.C. and getting Jordan back take precedence, so it was really nice to get to hear things from his perspective. Also I so ship Bear and Declan. If they don't happen in Vardaesia I will riot.

Overall I definitely think this is worth reading if you love the rest of the series. After reading this the first time I felt that I knew D.C., Jordan, and Bear a lot better, and it also made the rereading experience all that much more. I knew why D.C. behaved the way she did in the beginning, and I also knew exactly what Jordan was going through at the end of Raelia and Draekora ahahahahahha that wasn't painful knowledge at all as well as what Bear was feeling at the end of Graevale. It also sets us up nicely for Vardaesia which I am going to get to now because I FINALLY HAVE IT IN MY HANDS OMGOMGOGMOGMOGMOGMGOMGOMGMG!!!!!!!!

If you actually read this review thank and bye. I got book to read.

FIRST READ 20/09/18 - 4.5 stars

(4.5)

Oh man, I hit a book slump at the end of this so my last feelings towards it are forcing myself to finish it rather than the mass amount of feels I felt earlier. Still, I did for the most part absolutely adore this. Hopefully I won't fall into a book slump when I reread this in preparation for Vardaesia.

5 stars and more

It's no secret I've really enjoyed this series and this book was no exception. It's basically three short stories covering the same period as the previous books but from a different perspective.

The world building is superb as always. It's so easy to be swept up and away in this amazing tale. So vivid, so descriptive, just captivating.

So this is mostly about Bear, D.C and Jordan who are the main protagonist Alex's best friends. Many of the fantastic cast of the books are here too which is very engaging. The amount and depth of characters and how they work together Is just brilliant.

The plot is excellent and interesting that it mostly covers what we have already seen but from another angle. I find that fascinating and it's brilliantly done here.

Overall another fantastic book in the Medoran chronicles that just keeps raising the bar.
It's definitely YA in it's themes and tone but universal in being a fantastic read.

I honestly didn't know I had it in me to cry TWICE while reading this series, but here I am...

These 3 stories offer a precious backstory to our fave characters - Jordan, D.C. and Bear. While I thought I knew them pretty well, reading these stories convinced me there is so much more to learn and discover about someone. I just hope all my babies get a happy ending in the last book because they deserve it so much 🥺

“To fading scars. And the hope of healing.”

Lynette Noni has a pattern of shredding my heart into tiny little pieces and not giving it back, and I would like to not cry for hours over ink on a page thank you very much.

But anyways this book series brings so much warmth to my heart I love the characters and everything about it.

Novellas and short stories aren't generally my thing but I like how Lynette has approached it within 'We Three Heroes'. Out of the three stories I think Bear's is my favourite. I kept forgetting that I hadn't read this book but now that it's over I am glad to have delayed reading it because it means less waiting time between finishing this and the release of 'Vardesia'.

2023 reread -- 4.5 stars

------------------------------------------------

First read 2021 -- 3.5

Didn't like the narrators quite as much for these three novellas, and god was D.C's novella boring and repetitive! Jordan and Bear's stories definitely redeemed this.

It was really good to read about dc, Jordan and bear and learn more about them!! As it states in the book u need to have read the first 4 books in the series!! This book has made me understand the 3 characters way better! You learn how dc became the girl she is (maxton is a complete idiot)! Also learned about Jordan after his claiming!! And bears story takes place straight after Graevale!! And I cried the last pages again!! Now about to start the last book in the series!!!!

I loved reading from the DC, Jordan and Bear’s perspective as it offered different views that we don’t see in the rest of the Medoran series.

I just discovered this book, why I missed it when I read the series I don't know. But I loved revisiting these characters and finding out more of their backstories

Pre-Review:
→ I'm writing this after reading it for the fourth time so my thoughts are slightly more coherent(maybe, probably not)

“The books she read took her to places she would never visit, gave her friends she would never have, offered her a life she would never live. They were her escape from the world - they provided therapy for her mind, for her heart. They were hermits trusted companions.Because unlike people, books didn't care if you were a princess or a pauper. Their content didn't change depending on whose eyes travelled over their pages. Books just were.”

Overall:
→I love seeing more of what D. C., Jordan, and Bear are doing off the pages off the main series, as well as getting to see into their heads and getting more of their personal stories that aren't told through the main series, this book is the definition of screaming, crying, throwing-up(and maybe getting in an occastional smiled), Lynette just makes you feel it all in one book, ans that one thing I love bout all her books I've read
→5⭐

D. C.:
→D. C. is a character that I'm not even sure I could describe how much she means to me, if that doesn't tell you anything about her and her story I'm not sure what will. D. C. is a character who put strong walls up against her heart, I could feel her pain seeping though the pages, but I loved seeing those walls fall down throughout her story, seeing her able to find those people see can trust, I loved seeing her thoughts in her story, I love her character. Also on another note D. C. is legit me, like if you asked me what character I'm most like the answer is D. C., if you put me in a book I'd be D. C., seeing a character who is so me its insane in a story is surreal, seeing her go from the girl who never let anyone in after what M*xton(he deserves to be censored) did to her to a girl who would do anything for the people she trusts is my favorite thing about D. C.'s character arc, the stark difference to her being cold and untrusting in Akarnae and not getting to see why that is, while in We Three Hero's we get to see that, explains so much about D. C.
→5⭐

Fave Quote:
→“Your molesting the princess."(from Realia)

Jordan:
→from Jordan being just unclaimed and having to deal with that alone to him sitting out at night with D. C., to both D. C. and Jordan finally opening about their pasts to each other, to them maybe becoming more than friends, was my favorite part of Jordan's story, I loved getting to learn more about Jordan thorough his story
→5⭐

Fave Quote:
→“I loved my brother and I understand why he thought he couldn't live the future laid before him, but I also hate him a little for leaving me like that. And also for the message he left behind - one that he himself didn't listen to. He let them brake him. And in turn, his death nearly broke me.”

Bear:
→I loved seeing more of bear and his love of chemistry, also I loved seeing more or his friendship with Jordan in his story, also him and Declan's "friendship" unfolding, to him and Jordan, and D. C. trying to defend Alex having seen some of the atrocities Aven has committed and trusting Alex for her word about all that happend in the past(more talked about in Graevale), to seeing more of bear and his brothers, to that ending(pain, pain, and more pain), to just him and the rest of his family, and everything in between with his story
→5⭐

Fave Quote:
→"But you know I'm all over this-I'll have Finn eating from the palm of my hand. Team Jordix for the win!"

I read Akarnae and Raelia back-to-back and was blown away. I devoured Draekora and Graevale as soon as I could. So you know I was super excited when Pantera and Lynette Noni announced We Three Heroes. Stories told from the POV of Alex’s besties while I’m waiting for Vardaesia to be released, hell yeah!

D.C.’s Story – Crowns and Curses. In this short we get to experience what made D.C. the sassy ice queen supreme we first meet in Akarnae. We then follow her healing journey and see her become the loyal and loving friend we know from books 2-4. Themes: bullying and friendship.

Jordan’s Story – Scars and Silence. At a first glance Jordan appears to be just an adorable cheeky ruffian with cool disappearing powers, but through this short we get to dive deeper into the boy and recover with him as he deals with the blows he received from Aven in books 2-3. Themes: suicide, family expectations, loss of loved one.

Bear’s Story – Hearts and Headstones. I knew from Graevale what was coming but living the battle again through Bear’s eyes still made me tear up. Unlike the previous two stories I didn’t feel I learnt anything new about Bear, but we did get to learn more about Declan’s past. Themes: loss of loved one, strengthening friendships, war.

I really enjoyed this book. It allows us to get to know the side charters better and I think getting a deeper understanding for them will make the final instalment all that more epic! Bring on VARDAESIA!

I still haven’t forgiven Noni for chapter 33 in Graevale, and my forgiveness hinges on three things I hope go down in Vardaesia regarding Bear and Declan, Alex and Kaiden, and a certain MIA winged Draekorian.

Noni’s The Medoran Chronicles are top notch. If you are a fantasy fan of any age or a #LoveOzYa supporter, then they are a MUST READ! The series has it all; action, adventure, a kick ass heroine, fantastic side characters, friendship, humour, romance, deeply built parallel worlds, humans with fantastical abilities and immortal beings.

I’m running off talking about the series aren’t I – oops – and this is supposed to be a review of We Three Heroes. In my defence it is an amazing series and the stories in this book weave through the timelines of the first four books.

Who would enjoy this book: fans of Noni’s Medoran Chronicles. This novella compendium is a MUST for fans of the series, but unless you’ve read the first four books and loved them, it’s not for you – too many spoilers and too many things you need to already know for the stories to flow.

We Three Heroes by Lynette Noni is a refreshing and insightful addition to the Medoran Chronicles, offering readers a deeper look into the lives of Alex's closest allies: D.C., Jordan and Bear. This collection of three novellas shifts the spotlight away from Alex, allowing each character to take centre stage, showing their personal journeys, struggles, and triumphs in a way that enriches the main series.
Each novella gives a unique perspective, with D.C.'s story focusing on her royal heritage, Jordan's on his haunted past, and Bear's on his quiet strength and loyalty. These backstories not only flesh out their characters but also add emotional depth, making their actions throughout the series even more meaningful.
Quotes;

If you're a fan of the Medoran Chronicles and want to dive deeper into the lives of Alex's friends, We Three Heroes adds richness and heart to the series, making it a perfect novella read.

3.5* Although I'm still hanging out for the final book, this was a pretty good read. DC's story gave a bit of background to explain her behaviour in the first book, and Jordan's went into his dark past and struggles after Alex released him from Aven's control. Although I enjoyed both novellas, they were both a bit repetitive- especially Jordan's, I lost count of how many times he talked about his scars. Bear's story I really enjoyed though. Even though it gave less unknown details than the other two, I felt like I enjoyed it more, I think Noni achieved Bear's voice really well, where I felt DC and Jordan didn't seem as strong to me as protagonists. I also just love Bear, and where his novella left off has me even more impatient for the final installment! Overall, this book is good to add a bit of background to the main series and to delve a little into the motivations of DC, Jordan and Bear but DC and Jordan didn't feel very authentic as protagonists to me for some reason so I enjoyed it slightly less than I expected to. Having said that I would still recommend it to fans of the series for the extra details, and coz Bear.

1/11/24 update:

even if Graevale doesn’t make me sob like a mad woman, this will

——

Spoilers GALOREEEE!! You’ve been warned!

Times I cried in this book:
1. When Dix talked about friendship and her loneliness. Damn that GUTTED me. I wish I had a group as tight as the main peeps but this gives me hope.
2. Jordan talking about Luka, “never let them break you” THE TATTOO
3. Jordan and Dix
4. BEAR. BEAR AND DECLAN AND WILLIAM AND WHYYY DID THAT HAPPEN.

Did I mention how much I love this book?

The ending of this book makes me cry so much. Like when William died it was so sad on Graevale but it is 10 times worse in We Three Hero’s cause you see the impact of the death. Ugh 😭 how dare Lynette kill him off.
