I wasn't sure what to expect when I was recommended this series. -The cover art isn't really my cup of tea (whoever tells you they don't judge the book by the cover is lying) -Taiwanese author that I have never heard of (just my ignorance, of course) -Looks like a light novel trying to be (again, I blame the cover)
It turned out to be really enjoyable with a surprisingly amount of depth to it (Sorry! No offence meant!) and I raced through them in a couple of days. Having read it, I think it will go into fantasy.. but not your typical one.
(Spoiler alert)
When you first started the first book, you start with a fantasy like setting, where you'd follow the main characters in a kind of mid-medieval village kind of setting, and helps 'save a troubled village'. As in being a hero and all that sort. But once you read a couple more chapters, you realise that you are experiencing the game as a player in a VR (Virtual Reality) game and your initial characters are not human. And the initial characters that you now have a relationship with, is a 'BUG' in the VR game, i.e. just an AI bot in the game.
Eventually VR and the actual living world (where the players live) blends together and you slowly learn more about each player (and the adorable AI) and the reasons why they joined this game and/or what's really happening in the living world.
There's another book by the same author called "H.A" which I was told is a companion read for this book. This time it will be about the developers of the VR game.
