Kilty Mind

Rate this book
Time-tossed Highlander Brochan doesn't get a moment to recover from his latest wounds before he and Catriona discover one of Parasol Picture's biggest stars has been accused of murder. It will be hard for the actor to beat the charge...the body was found under his house.

When another studio asset is dosed with drugs that send him into a near-fatal frenzy, the fixers have to wonder if someone is out to destroy Parasol. It doesn't help that Catriona's nefarious sister, Fiona, has moved even closer to the studio and seems inextricably tied to Parasol's problems.

Brochan and Catriona could find solace in each other, but Brochan wants to get married before they hop into his kip and Cat thinks he needs to embrace the twenty-first century. Though on the upside, Broch says her hand in marriage is worth at least four cows...

* There is a partial cliff-hanger - each book can stand alone and is also part of a larger story arc that continues through the series.

Kilty Mind (Book #3) — Amy Vansant (30 chapters + Epilogue) January 27-28, 2020

Story picks up almost exactly where it left off. Cat is sitting in her vehicle contemplating whether she out to go in to Fiona’s home and talk to her, but ultimately decides against it. At the same time, a girl is getting ready to kill, but the reader doesn’t know who she is or what she is about.

Broch is still having dreams about Fiona, but she no longer has a hold over him. Broch learns more about his past, while Cat grapples with her love/hate relationship with sis.

This book had a lot more LOL humor than the other earlier books (though there were funny moments in those as well.) I read half the book in one evening and finish the other half the next morning. I got to the end and thought…really?—I’m at the end all ready?

The author sates these books can be read as a standalone, but I strongly recommend eating from the beginning. The characters here grow and things happen in each one building up on the next.

Still, a great, original, entertaining story.

Some formatting issues (gaps in sentences mostly,) but nothing that is too jarring.

Five stars.

Fiona is still following her sister Catriona and Broch. Doing everything she can to cause trouble for them. As Broch's dreams continue, he remembers Fiona playing him for a fool and even doing her best to literally kill him. This was in their lives in the past.
In the present, Fiona has no idea that her cruelty and mannerisms will set off someone even more psychopathic than she is, even to the point of she herself succumbing to some of the same things she has done to others.
As much as it pains her. Catriona cannot allow her sister to be murdered. It's just not in her. She and Broch set to find a serial killer, and save Fiona in the process.

This is a fun story with more suspense in it than romance. It has strong characters, lots of action, and many twist to bring you to a surprising ending.

I purchased the time traveling murder thriller Kilty Romantic suspense book 3:Kilt Mind by Amy Vansant and this review was given freely.
The connection between characters was confusing at first as there had been sometime between book 2 and this one. Focused mainly in the modern day with a few time travel dreams by Brochan, this predominantly dark and twisted time travel novel contains a gory suspenseful murder mystery, the playful banter and escalating attraction between Katroinia and Brochan, evil in the form of Katroinia's time traveling sister Fiona, and a cliffhanger ending with the appearance of Katroinia and Fiona's father. Well written for it's genre but too dark for my tastes.

This is the 3rd book in the Kilty Series. Brochan, a time traveler from 19th century Scotland landed at a Hollywood studio and now helps, Catriona in her job as a "fixer" for the studio. To really undertand what is going on you should first read the other 2 books in this series.
More than a time travel story it is a mystery/ thriller. Someone is making trouble for the studio's personnel. One is drugged and two are killed. Cat, Broh and her adopted father Sean must solve the crimes before anyone else gets hurt.
This is a fast, fun read. My only complaint is that Broch's dialogue is written in a Scottish "accent" which makes the reading hard at times.
This book ends on a cliffhanger and so you must wait until the next book to find out what happens.

Fun, light entertainment—this one has its share of gore and creepiness!

Would I run headlong into a dangerous situation, without backup, and without calling the cops? That’s the question I find myself asking over and over again with these Kilty novels, as the protagonist does just this repeatedly. Aside from the eye-rolling challenge to my suspension of disbelief, the books provide enough light entertainment to keep me reading.

This one, the third in the series, was particularly gory and creepy, however, featuring an antagonist who dresses up as a ventriloquist’s dummy and kills people (rather easily, for a small person, I must say).

There are also a number of holes in the plot (who was shooting acid from the water gun? That was never explained. It didn’t appear to be the actual villain, so was it a contract job? We never find out. And how did the villain drug Timmy? Again, we never find out.)

The fun part is seeing how Brock, the Scottish Highlander, who has time traveled from 1833 (and before that, 1721), responds to life in the 21st Century. Not all of his responses ring true, and some things that seem like they would elicit a strong response don’t get any comment from him at all. It’s a fun thought experiment, though, and a good foil for a series that is ultimately a string of crime thrillers with some romance mixed in.

While each of these books does come to closure around its main story arc (the crime du jour), the larger story always ends on a cliff hanger. You get the satisfaction of seeing the villain collared, but you’re left wanting to find out what happens next—caveat emptor!

I received this book from the author as an ARC gift ....and am I ever glad I did.... Introduced to this author via another of her series, this one intrigued me, and when I picked it up I could not put it down.. causing me to lose sleep and keep my grumpy husband awake with laughing. JUST the kind of story you love to read , as a break from mundane every day. One warning - its the third part of three (so far, and author had best HURRY UP as the drop off was TRAUMATIC ;-) and they will want to be read back to back. They fit together seamlessly, but can also stand alone. I'm a big fan of this author, her characters are quite realistic and the story line keeps you interested ;-)

Puppet Master

There's something about Fiona . . . While each of the novels in this series solves its internal mysteries, the greater story arc is of sufficient merit to make reading the books in order well worth while. Time travel, brutally murdered corpses, madness, mad skills, and movies all compete for your attention as the pace ramps up and clues unfold. Who is pulling the strings? Eagerly awaiting Book Four of this laugh-out-loud funny mystery series!

Wow!! Another terrific book!! Fiona continues to cause problems for Catriona and Brochan. Someone is after Fiona. Who could it be? The movie studio has problems. Brochan's dreams continue. This well written story has suspense, action, mystery, humor, romance, twists and turns to keep you going from start to finish. Get a copy and come along on this roller coaster. You'll be glad you did. I recommend all 3 books in this series and I'm looking forward to the 4th.

Kilty Mind: Romantic Suspense Mystery Thriller by Amy Vansant

I am not certain what draws me the most in this series, the mystery, humor, romance or suspense, but I am all in every time. I love Broch, but may have to throw Fiona out a fifteen story window. Although we get a solid finish on the mystery developed for this episode, the cliff-hanger is a doozy!

I’m really invested in this series and absolutely love Ms. Vansant’s writing.
The plot is really thickening now where the lines between the centuries has become very blurred. Between Brochan’s dreams(memories), and the drama in the present day, I couldn’t put the book down! And I won’t even mention the cliff-hanger at the end! I cannot wait to read book #4!

Crazy!

Oh boy, well, crazy and zany don’t even cut it for what this book is really. Catriona always has her hands full with prima donnas and also helping a time traveling Scotsman function in his new environment. Which is hilarious by the way. Fiona is our nemesis and the murder mystery was equally as crazy as everything else.

Fun comedy-drama with some laugh out loud scenes

The time traveling Scotsman new to the 21st century is endearing, the heroine is wickedly funny, and evil sister is truly ugly. It's tough to do both comedy and drama in the same book, and if that's not enough add clown movie creepiness all in one book, but the author captures it all very well. Looking forward to more.

Another cliff hanger with no where to go

The suspense in this one gets a little heavy and the romance still light and fun, but hoping the author doesn't leave us hanging for long until the next book in the series is available!

Scotch

If you’ve ever wanted a Highlander, this series is for you. No big slaughters by the English, just good modern day mystery solving by a pair of romantics. His language is 17th and 18th Scottish. Hilarious.

Very fun series.

If you swoon over men in kilts, a touch of paranormal and manly men and equally tough women - you can find it all here. I went on a binge read on these 3 books in one weekend and felt so sad that there wasn't book 4 ready.

Well written adventure with humor and a hint of romance. Loved it. Non stop action. A little gruesome. Something for everybody.

Delighted there's a third novel in this sequence. Humour, pathos, thriller - it has it all. Roll on Broch 4.

So this installment just came out a few months ago, and it can be stand alone, though it clearly continues the story line of Brochnan, Sean, and Fiona, who are all timetravelers. But Catriona seems to be one too, but in a different way. We learn that Fiona and Cat are indeed sisters and their father will likely find them now that they are in proximity to each other. Meanwhile, we have a bunch of murders and strange cowgirl dolls with them. Missing actresses and makeup artists and attacks on various stars. So off Sean, Broch, and Catriona go with Luther to protect, solve, and minimize the harm. And now we are left with a cliffhanger again! But there is a resolution to the killings and missing folks. The next one has no release date.
