Sophie and Becca have been best friends since they were in junior high. When Becca asks her to be the maid of honor in her wedding, there’s no way Sophie can say no. Even if it means driving cross-country to get there.
Circumstances go awry when Sophie discovers her partner cheating on her the night before the big trip. Devastated, Sophie isn’t sure she’ll make it to the wedding. Becca won’t take no for an answer. She arranges for Nika, her sister, to pick up Sophie in the morning. Sophie wants nothing to do with Nika. She has always been this gorgeous, infuriating woman who acts like she’s got a grudge to hold. Especially against Sophie.
Sophie has never told her best friend that she had a fling with Nika in high school. All these years, she’s kept that secret for fear of losing Becca’s friendship. When Nika shows up on her doorstep, Sophie’s emotions are thrown into overdrive. A three-day trip in a car with the girl who hates her? Not the best idea. Will they be able to make it to the wedding without going at each other’s throat or will old flames rekindle?
This is a reasonable read. Nice space filler when you don't want to read anything too heavy or too long (it's definitely not 298 pages, more like 200). I liked both characters well enough although I preferred Nika to Sophie. Communication was one of the dominant themes but it was failure to communicate rather than miscommunication. Little bit of angst, some flashbacks, some pretty steamy sex and a fairly good romance.
“ Somewhere along the way, despite my best efforts, I was falling in love with Nika. Maybe I always have been”
After catching her girlfriend in bed with someone else, Sophie travels across the country for her bff's wedding with Nika, who was her first crush, her first kiss and her first. I really liked Nika, not that it surprised me. She is a bad girl who once you get to know, is not so bad. Sophie had a little love/hate thing going on with Nika. Due to past misunderstandings, they both think the other hates them. They were hot and cold and then HOT. Second half of the book was filled with way too much drama and cheesy dialogue then necessary. Overall it wasn't anything deep but still a fun read.
I've read quiet a few of Mish Daniels books, most of them I think were on the short story side, and have liked most of them. This definitely falls in the like catagory. The main character Sophie has just caught her girlfriend cheating on her and now, at the request ofnher best friend and bride to be Becca, has to travel across the country with someone who hates her, Nika. What makes it worse is that the summer before Sophie's senior year of high school Nika and her shared a couple nights that shall never be talked about ever. The book was well written with only a few errors, nothing to take away from the story. Both main characters are well developed and the focus is really on them not so much outside things like work or exes or family, thought they play role they are not driving the romance between the two. Anyway, the romance was nicely done, not rushed but not dragged on too long. There is a good amount of drama but its done well and adds a bit to thebdepth of the characters. I liked it and it was free on kU so kudos to that
I enjoyed this story so much I have it 5 stars. It's well written, romantic and erotic. The characters are charming and. Nika is enigmatic and brave, Sophie is soft and sweet. Hate to love her is one of the best erotic novels I've read, and I definitely recommend it.
Not my sort of story, but I picked it up on a farm. Much to my surprise, I found myself drawn into it. The beginning seemed prime for cliches but the author skillfully avoids them, drawing it the scenes and giving a sense of real emotions. Brava!
