Dr. Alan Christianson, top naturopathic physician and bestselling author of The Adrenal Reset Diet, introduces a four-week cleanse that heals damage to the liver, helping readers unlock the key to rapid weight loss and lower blood sugar. The path to becoming naturally thin isn't as impossible as it may seem. In The Metabolism Reset Diet, you'll unlock the key to rapid, sustained weight loss and lower blood sugar with a four-week cleanse that heals your liver and gives your metabolism new life. The hidden truth is that your liver is actually the key to a healthy metabolism. When it isn't functioning properly, it loses the ability to burn fuel. An overloaded liver can only store fuel as fat, which slows your metabolism and leads to excess weight gain. Even if you cut out sugar and carbs, you can still struggle with weight loss and high blood sugar. With Dr. Alan Christianson's clinically proven program, you'll be able to reverse damage to your liver in just four weeks. Once your liver regains its ability to manage your metabolism, you'll have fewer food cravings, steady energy levels, better digestion, and a metabolism that works optimally. This proven diet is carefully constructed to provide your liver with the nutrients it needs without over fueling, supplying your body with healthy amounts of protein, fiber, micronutrients, and phytonutrients that support liver function. Unlike so many diets that require people to stick to a difficult and restrictive plan, following a liver-friendly eating plan will ensure that your weight and energy stay steady, even if your diet changes. Complete with comprehensive guidelines, meal plans, recipes, and advice on maintenance, The Metabolism Reset Diet will help readers achieve optimal liver function to lose weight and get healthy fast.

Basically, a low-cal detox emphasizing resistant starch.

Plus, there are some unforgivable factual mistakes in the book.

Yes, if you come from SAD and a generally unhealthy lifestyle and apply all of the advice in the book, you'll feel much better for sure, but you don't really need to call it a metabolism reset or act like you've reset your liver and that's where all the gains are coming from.

I was hoping for more reliable science on the liver and liver health, but this book is definitely not the place to get it. It's just yet another angle of approaching weight loss with nothing much to add to the table, except the catchy name.

This book clicked for me. We put our livers through a lot of strain through years of our daily SAD eating and living habits. I'm on day 22 of the 28 day detox. Feeling great. I gave it a 4 star because of the meat he recommends eating in the evening meal. Removing animal products from your diet also lessens the load on your liver. He gave vegan options to the meat recipes, but I'd have liked more plant based recipes. (I'm not a vegetarian, but believe plant based would be better for the detox.)

A refreshing and realistic approach to regaining health

I’ve tried a host of programs advertised to help regain health and vibrancy while losing weight, without really addressing the root cause of the problem: my metabolism. This author clearly explains the how our metabolisms are impacted by the various diet programs du-jour and sets out a logical and pragmatic solution. I’ve been on the reset for 8 days and have lost pounds and inches already. The maintenance beyond the reset focuses on good proteins, unprocessed whole foods and appropriate resistant starches. This is something I can finally stick with.

a game changer for me

I am overweight all my 30 years and tried and tired several diets and exercise routines. I had no trust at start but with in first few days, I noticed I was consistently loosing little weight day to day basis.
With in 4 weeks, I lost close to 4.5 kgs and never felt tired or energy less. My mood improved, I cooked every dinner and my wife was so happy since she got some time off. Otherwise, by 5 I used to feel I need a nap.
A must read I will say for who those who are struggling with weight and low esteem. Me and my wife did it together and we thoroughly enjoyed the last few weeks while we are on this diet. Bonus is, we had some great tasting smoothies and tasty dinners

I think this was finally the answer I was looking for - a food plan that has realistic food options and an exercise plan that seems do-able. It's not a 'fad' diet, or an extreme way of eating that prohibits whole categories of food. The science ties in with what I've read in other places, which doesn't make it right, but it's a plus. I originally got this on my Kindle, and ordered it in hard copy so I can make annotations and pass it around to others.

Works as promised. A great cleanse that restored my ability to go for longer between meals, restored my energy, fat loss . Great tools in this one, the smoothie recipes are amazing. Writing is a little awkward and could have used stronger structural editing but not bad enough to confuse the reader. He is a really smart, forward thinking healer and one to watch.

No rating. How do you rate a health book anyway? Now to see if what I learned works! Trying to reverse some newly discovered autoimmune issues and improve my liver health. Losing weight would be the cherry on a sundae, but I really want to correct some health issues without medication.

***Update***
It works. All his claims and advice works.

Nope. Would give this no stars if Goodreads allowed it.

Another fad diet book with a shake-based program. Of course you are going to lose weight if your caloric intake is dramatically reduced.

This is probably one of the worst advise books on nutrition and weightloss that I came across.

The author is a physician not a dietitian and /or nutritionist and not a personal trainer. Also he sounds hypocritical by criticising all the other fad diets out there but tells you that he has a miracle diet that will reset your metabolism and you'll magically lose weight with no effort, super salsey and unreleastic.

The diet is apparently 2 protein shakes a day and a big meal at dinner with snacking on veggies inbetween.

And once you are done with this diet you can back to your regular food. What? The food that got you fat in the first place!

As some of other reviews mention this book is full of inconsistencies and contradictions.

Much much more insightful book on nutrition and weight loss is "How not to diet" by Michael Greger.

This fantastic book shows relatively easy path to reset your metabolism. I am overweight, and recently, even if I ate light meal at 6 pm and went to bed at midnight, I had heartburn and my digestion just wasn't happening. I realized that I was in trouble. Some internet resource suggested that my symptoms, combined with constant skin issues might indicate problem with my liver. I found this book, and started with the diet. The recipes are delicious. I enjoy every dinner. Unfortunately, it takes time to get used to protein in shakes.

Following the diet is easy. I also found that website contact is very responsive and respectful, as well as helpful. A big thank you to dr. Christianson. I recommend this book to anybody who experiences problems with metabolism.

This book was an easy read without being overly medical. It's all about a clean out and resetting of your liver. There a lot of positive results claimed at the end of the 28 day meal plan including a slimmer waist line, some weight loss, improved blood glucose levels, more energy, etc.

Your day consists of 2 pea protein smoothies (which include the use of green banana powder) and a carb, veggie, protein dinner. There are veggie snack options if hunger strikes. A helpful shopping list and plenty of delicious sounding recipe options for both the smoothies and dinner.

My initial thought was hmmm, not bad. Sounds like something I could easily do, I already eat very healthy. However giving this some more thought I had some issues.

-Not nearly enough fiber in the coarse of the day in my opinion. Maybe for those that live the fast food life these healthy options are more fiber than most people eat.

-Purified water is required which is ok but it can cause heart problems, loss of good gut bacteria, and a lack of minerals.

-Author says no almond milk. However some smoothie recipes include almonds, water and vanilla (all ingredients of almond milk). What the heck?!?

-Several of the smoothie recipes call for 1-2 cups of spinach. If eaten daily there's no warning (that I recall reading) that too much spinach can cause kidney stones, low blood pressure etc.

Then there's the head scratcher. One of the no-no's listed clearly states no dairy. However, for Dinner yogurt is listed as an option for those non meat/fish lovers. In the authors favor maybe he meant to say soy, nut, coconut  yogurt. In any event its confusing.

After all's said and done I think I'd rather stick to my whole food plant based diet.

This book has genuinely changed my life! Dr. Christianson’s approach to resetting the metabolism by cleansing the liver is both practical and effective. I was initially hesitant when I read that I’d had to give up coffee for 28 days—something I thought I could never do—but I decided to give it a shot, and I’m so glad I did.

The shakes and recipes included in the book are absolutely delicious, making the process easier to follow. Over the course of the program, I lost 20 pounds and, most importantly, have kept it off. What’s even more impressive is that, as the book explains, this isn’t about temporary weight loss. I was skeptical when I read in the FAQs that you won’t regain the weight if you revert to your old eating habits, but I can confidently say it’s true. I indulged over Thanksgiving—eating out every day and enjoying a full Thanksgiving dinner—and didn’t gain a single pound.

For someone like me who has always struggled with their weight, this diet offers a sustainable, manageable solution. I also loved the inclusion of unlimited foods for those moments when snacking feels necessary.

If you’re looking for a program that truly works, I highly recommend The Metabolism Reset Diet. It’s a life-changer, and I guarantee it will transform the way you approach your health and weight loss.

Your liver is the core of your health because it affects every other organ in your body. The liver purifies your blood, builds and stores the nutrients that your other organs need, and protects your body against disease. It’s also directly responsible for your metabolism, which affects your weight and energy levels. So, if you want to look and feel better, then embrace this simple formula: a healthy liver means an active metabolism, which in turn, yields a healthy body overall.

Actionable advice:

Create a meal plan.

So, you’ve heard the science behind the diet, you could do with a metabolism boost, and you want to give it a try. Now what? Now, you need to make a meal plan for the next four weeks. Don’t worry; all the hard work has already been done for you. Just visit the website themetabolismresetdiet.com to find a plethora of resources such as grocery lists, recipes, progress trackers, and more. There you’ll also find a vibrant community of like-minded people who’ll be happy to give you any extra advice or support that you need.

Absolutely hilarious book lmao.

Step 1. Trick people into thinking all of science is wrong and that their livers were failing them, not their self control.
Step 2. Tell them how to fix their bad liver and sprinkle in more pseudoscience.
Step 3. Use science to make them lose weight by constricting calories, but tell them it’s fixing their magic organ problem.
Step 4. After a month they’ll think they’re all fixed and are now not lazy can now lose weight! (Which is true because they have hope, not because their organs are fixed)
Step 5. Tell them they can now eat whatever they want, and because they have only been snacking on vegetables for a month they won’t crave the caloric slop they were eating before. So they’ll continue to lose weight without intervention.

Rating 1 star because despite the good intensions and comedy gold, the author is either lying to people or worse, actually believes their own nonsense. Regardless, you will probably lose weight by following this book. Just not for the reasons the author states.

I’ve long suspected that my liver has been working overtime, and this book clearly explained why. Dr. Christianson has a gift for simplifying complex physiological processes, especially through helpful analogies that make the science easy to understand and apply. The book explains why a liver detox can be beneficial, and how to do one. While the doc does sell a product that can be used during a detox, he very clearly explains how to make your own. I appreciated that.

I don’t typically read “diet” books, and the title is a bit misleading. This isn’t really a diet book at all—it’s about improving overall health, with weight loss potentially being a side effect.

I do plan to give the detox a try and I will report back. For now, 4 stars for making a complex topic easy to understand.

To preface: I am not a big "diet" fan; I prefer having a healthy lifestyle overall. I read this to support a family member who had success with this plan previously and wanted support doing it again (yes, this is a repeatable program).

This is not a magic pill, diet hack, any of that nonsense. It's a system to heal your liver, making it more efficient and resilient. The plan seems semi strict for someone coming from a relatively healthy diet and will probably be difficult for someone who has bad eating habits. Still worth trying since it's only one month and provides an opportunity to change your habits to healthier ones.

Looking after your liver is key. Not just the calories restricted diet. So eating various nutrient rich foods such as protein and fibre. Garlic, onions, radishes, papayas, turmeric, tomatoes, grapes and soy.

Protein shakes for breakfast and lunch, with an evening meal. Getting large amounts of protien and resistant starch.

Unlimited vegetable snacks.

Only 4 weeks on the diet. Reset the liver. Get good sleep, reducing stress and allowing liver to repair. 7-8hrs of sleep. Exercise, light but too much. Short 5-10 min micro stretching or cardio sessions. Walking.

This was a somewhat interesting read, but it goes against a lot of what I have learned via Weight Watchers, including the fact that this author encourages you to drink a lot of smoothies - WW says you burn more calories and do better when you eat your fruit vs when you drink it.

Still, some of what Christianson says does follow with what I am already doing.

Reliable information and good results from the program. Not 5 stars just because some of the recipes are a bit confusing as to which part of your dietary requirements that particular recipe fulfills, etc. There also needs to be an error page somewhere as the few mistakes in it cause confusion. The recipe, however, taste great and the whole program is very effective.

Interesting

I'm always interested by books on nutrition. Usually I can learn something from each one. This book focuses on the importance the liver plays in health and metabolism. It dovetails into what I already knew about the liver, and I am looking forward to seeing how the application of things learned in this book translate to real life. Excellent read.

Some interesting points but not sure if I would want to follow the plan which relies on reset shakes for 2 meals a day. Not meant to be a long term plan but could be helpful if you were struggling with making major health changes.

Disappointing. Another shake diet plan. A majority of the book content are recipes for making the two shakes a day you need to eat and recipes for slimming meals. I've read more useful content online and watched on YouTube. Start there. Book is not worth the time.
