Highly exciting and entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series

This is an exciting and entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a fun and entertaining storyline. A bit more action packed than most. This is based in a small mostly supernatural town that has a magic shield around it that protects the magical occupants. While humans can come in for the most part they don’t realize that there’s magic going on. The police force are angels. The people that live there are all supernatural beings. Witches shifters vampires trolls fairies etc. One particular family which is guard at the local cemetery which sits atop a demon prison. They are the guardians of the prison and make sure no demons escape. Three generations currently assist in this operation. One of the two younger witches happens to be basically a demon bounty Hunter and goes outside the magic protection of the town into the human world to retrieve escaped demons. When she was younger she saved her sister from getting killed by demon by swallowing the demon into herself. She has that unique capability of capturing demons. Unfortunately as one particular demon is a very powerful demon and will not leave so she carries it with her. On occasion he can gain control of her and cause trouble in it’s path. Sometimes these issues are in town and other times they are out of town. Altogether it is a very entertaining and unique take on the genre. Check it out

The story opens with Tempest chasing a demon in another city. She swallows him and returns to her home. Nick, a reporter, is in her hometown and won't leave Tempest alone. He might have some magical ability himself.

There's a rumor about an ancient, powerful ring (think The Ring from Lord of the Rings) being in the area. It's not long before Nick is found dead and the game's afoot. The incompetent Angel corp is, as usual, incompetent and wants to arrest almost anyone they can. It's up to Tempest to find the true killer.

Rachael, Nick's fiancee, supposedly, is a suspect as is a guy named James,. Even one of Tempest's aunts is branded as a suspect. Jenny is another one of the people working with Nick but doesn't seem to be a suspect. Another interesting person is Suki, a 'wild woman' who protects the forest and avoids human contact.

So, Tempest's hands as full as she has to keep the truth about her town from the reporters, make sure her aunt is not considered a potential killer, deal with a fight between Rachael and Jenny, help Suki adapt at least a little to being around people and, at the same time, find the actual killer.

Another good book in the series.

Getting down and dirty

Appealed to my sense of humour. Love Wiggles and his constant hunt for food - can really relate. The solstice always brings visitors to the town. After a nasty demon hunt she's ready for a time out with her family. Unfortunately the solstice has also drawn a couple of reporters and one of them is not only magical but also looking for an artifact that he read about in some old family letters. When he turns up dead at the cemetery she is asked to assist the angel force in finding the killer. Unfortunately the main suspects they have are her aunt and then a six foot dryad. Can she find the real killer? How does the ring work and what would it do to a human? Great plot, okay I did guess the guilty party even if I did get thrown off track a few times. It was fast, plenty of magic and also dealt with the more serious issues of how we treat people that are different. Great read.

I read this book as part of a cozy book challenge. I had read a previous book by this author for the same reason and thought it unlikely that I would read another. I admit the series is growing on me but Frank still annoys me and I wish Tempest could rid herself of him. The fact that the town is policed by angels who are apparently not too bright makes me chuckle. If the next book in series shows up in the challenge I hope the writing and stories continue to improve.

Tempest does her best to keep demon Frank from going off the rails, as well as attempting to prevent her town from getting too much media notice, while doing her best to keep miscellaneous friends and family out of trouble.

She hopefully also will avoid jail for herself. She probably draws a bit too much attention personally along the way.

A fun and busy world! Love this series!

Another great book

I really love this series. The world is so different and entertaining. Tempest is a great detective and a great friend, although she pretends to do all of it reluctantly, she never gives up on anyone.

Magic!

Tempest has enough trouble controlling her ride along demon (Frank) in the best of times. During the solstice her power increases and refreshes, but so does his. When a dark magical ring shows up, Frank refuses to stay in the background. Wonderful characters, a great read!

I hate when the story ends…

But I’m so happy that there is more to come! I laughed so much during parts of this book. The way to keep Frank under control? Shove a brownie in Tempest’s mouth! Lol! And Wiggles is just too much! I love that hellhound!

Good stories, but predictable. Figured out the “person” by chapter 5.

He’ll of a witch

I didn’t like the start of this story. It was too forceful and I was in too much darkness too soon

Not your typical small town. Not your typical small-town family. An enjoyable mix of suspense, humor, and relationships. It answered some questions raised in Luck of the Witch but raised others. Anxiously waiting for the next book in the series.
