Okay I owned this book because it was my mother's/aunt's but it was one of my favorite kids books growing up. Feels kinda like an Adventures in Odyssey episode.
My Mom found this series in her basement from when I was little and brought it over for my kids. It was the first in the series we have read and it held the attention of my three year olds and five year old - even though the children in the story were older than them.
The book follows an elementary age girl, Alex as she tries to befriend a troubled new kid, Dan and find a missing cat. This is a Christian series and liked how Jesus was woven into the story (Alex prays when she is confused or in trouble and talks to her friends about God when they are afraid). I also like that the parents are characters in the book and the children go to their parents when they are in trouble. So many children's books today leave out the role of parents completely.
Cute series overall and we will be reading more from this author during our read aloud time.
Though much of my reason for liking this book stems from the fact that I absolutely LOVED the series as a child, the story is really cute. A new boy arrives in the neighborhood and begins to upset Alex's elderly neighbors, Alex, and her friends. He goes so far as to lock Alex and her friends in a shed, then runs away. Alex decides to look for him, and they eventually become friends. This book tells children the importance of father figures and mother figures, as well as the importance of praying in times of trouble or worry.
