Francine Paula Pascal was an American author best known for her Sweet Valley series of young adult novels. Sweet Valley High, the backbone of the collection, was made into a television series, which led to several spin-offs, including The Unicorn Club and Sweet Valley University. Although most of these books were published in the 1980s and 1990s, they remained so popular that several titles were re-released decades later.

I really don't like Jessica in this book and while I like Nick, I just don't understand how their relationship will work out. Nick is a grown, mature adult with a serious job and Jessica is so immature. Also why does it seem like a character dies in every book?

My goodness, this volume of Sweet Valley University is sad! Continuing with the two love triangles involving Elizabeth Wakefield, she and Tom still hate each other and feel the pain of their recent, terrible breakup while Tom’s new girlfriend tries to win him over. Liz and Todd are reunited, but with his girlfriend Gin-Yung back in the picture, everyone involved—and everyone reading—will shed quite a few tears.

This is not your average college sorority book. The gang at Sweet Valley have to face something no one wants to face, especially at such a young and tender age. As sad as this book is, though, it’s a testament to Laurie John’s writing that she can make her story accessible to young people without being overwhelming and unrealistic. These are very real characters reacting in very real ways. I’m sure you’ll find your own reactions in some of the passages.

"...she was beginning to see that what made life so hard as that there were no pat answers-you just had to stumble around in the dark and hope you ended up making the right decisions."

It's so full of drama but the way the author presents the stories (there's multiple characters having their own little drama) in such a back and forth way has made the stories feels awkward. There's a scene where Gin Yung is dying and then the scene just switched to other character's lives. It happened multiple times. Some of the characters (mostly Jessica) still showed such childish tendencies, almost like she's just never grow up. Like she's not in high school anymore it made me hard to care for her part of the drama in this book, especially when we're dealing with a much heavier drama compared to her drama (Gin Yung is dying, hello??)

SWEET VALLEY UNIVERSITY
Written by Francine Pascal
General Review for series as I cannot remember each novel.

I read Sweet Valley University when I was in junior high school to high school. While there is sexual content it is very mild (not explicit) compared to teen books today. If you like the Sweet Valley High you will love this series as it continues with the twins' story as they attend University and are away from their parents. I am not sure how they would relate to teens today as this was before cell phones were common and social media. They are fun teen romances with "real-life" situation. I did not complete the series as I started to save for school so I wasn't able to collect them any further (they are out of print). I still have the books I bought and may try to read one again (I did reread the series a few times).

Probably my least favourite SVU novel so far. Lovely, preppy Gin-Yung is sacrificed at the altar of ElizaTodd. Jessica behaves like a bona fide mental patient throughout and leaves me seriously rethinking my lifelong Team Jess affiliation. Lamentably Lila is nowhere to be seen but neither is Winston, so that evens things up.
