The Rescuers: Incredible Stories Of Life-Saving Dogs

Rate this book
Dogs are renowned for their loyalty, and those saved from animal shelters or rescue groups seem to be especially devoted to the humans who have offered them a second chance. In this extraordinary collection, meet the brave dogs that have shown incredible courage – even risking death – to protect their people.

There’s Leala, the Staffy who raced for help when her two-year-old owner fell in a dam; Buddy, the labrador who licked his owner awake to save her from a house fire; and Brian, the pit bull who valiantly fought off three other dogs to protect his owner Debbie.

From unforgettable moments of courage to heart-warming tales of true loyalty, these are the stories of some of the most heroic rescue dogs in the world.

This is the third book I've seen about dogs by this author, and she knows her stuff! I always adore these kinds of books, but I love a physical copy combined with photos even more. Some of the dogs are famous enough that due to my obsessive internet use, I already had heard of them but there are plenty of everyday heroes as well. We all know that our pets save our lives everyday just simply by exisitng and making our lives better, but this is in book form :)

A must for dog lovers, five stars!

Here are some heartwarming stories about rescue dogs that rescued their rescuers right back. Dogs of all shapes and sizes have saved their human's lives some in very dramatic fashion, others in their everyday presence.
Some of these dogs have come from abusive and damaging pasts but they have repaid their new carers in full for their attention and love - sometimes only days after being rescued themselves.
There are some stories in this book you might be familiar with but most are ones that have not been told before. Some of the stories will break your heart a bit with the descriptions of puppy farms and abuse these dogs have come from but the dogs themselves and people that care for them will heal it.

This book nicely recounts various different stories about rescue dogs' relationships with humans and the various ways in which they've saved humans' lives. It was written clearly and gave good insight into the history of the dogs and their humans. I think it did a particularly good job at illustrating the different sorts of meaningful relationships that dogs and humans can have with each other. Overall, an enjoyable read.
