M.J. Edwards is the pen name for Robert Winter. As Robert, I write primarily gay contemporary romance. M.J. is the alter ego under which I get to explore a more erotic side of romance, with combinations of characters along the LGBTQ spectrum. The stories are light on angst, heavy on sex, and a happy ending for all is my goal.

I don't normally read MMF (or any other "multiples" books). But when I learned this was written by Robert Winter using a different pen name, I had to see what he'd done with the trope.

He took the traditional MMF trope, crumpled it up and tossed it in the wastebasket. Then proceeded to write an amazingly moving, heartfelt, erotic story about pain, loss, and finding a way to move on when life has turned upside down for you.

Alethia and Nick have the world at their feet. Wealthy, talented and with a love for each other that others can only dream of. Then, tragedy strikes and leaves them floundering. Alethia refuses to let their love die. She's willing to do anything to keep her marriage from collapsing.

JD Pierce is a high priced escort. Raised in a poor family, his escape was the Army. After a couple of tours he finds himself back in civilian life with no real marketable skills. He capitalizes on his looks and deep understanding of human nature to build a financial nest egg for his future.

When JD is recommended to Alethia and subsequently hired, no one can imagine how everyone's life will change.

This story is so full of feels! My heart was bursting as the plot developed. Then, true to Robert's style, we're treated to a wicked little twist towards the end of the book.

Brilliant! Nothing short of the full 5 stars for a story that made me feel so much and left me so happy.

I really liked this, but I have to confess that despite being super hot I skimmed Jasper's scenes with other couples.
My focus was totally on Jasper, Nick and Alethia. The issues they were facing felt real and Jasper handled it with care and sensibility until it becomes more. And that's what I wish was played differently. Love came too fast, and I can never follow the characters in their emotional surrender.
The end was a bit too much, with her Dad manipulation input again .

Yes, indeed, I *saw* the word "escort" in the title.

To my defense, I keep reading escort books in the hope of - one day - finding one which acknowledges what it means to be a prostitute, what it entails, what it does to people and how it changes and harms them. Because it - invariably - does so, even those who protest. It's par for the course, just as nearly all army veterans suffered the consequences of having to kill people. This is very basic psychology. There are things which, when done, will alter the psychology, the mind and heart of someone. Always.

Yes, even if the escorts are male and gay or bisexual. The number of prostitutes who manage to survive this occupation and are not in some way negatively impacted by it is so minuscule, that the medical profession calls it neglectable.

So of course, strike one against this book was that the author didn't even try to build either a layered character or a character impacted by what he does in typical manner (splintered personality, drug or alcohol abuse, problems with one's self image, problems relating to others etc. pp.). Instead we get the completely gung-ho sex-crazed idiot straight out of gay porn/porn to whom sex of any kind is just peachy, even if he has to do it for money. Rut as rut can. The author forgets that this sort of thing is not necessarily either sex-positive, or erotic.

Strike two is the representation of bisexuality. I'm so absolutely TIRED of how bi/pan-sexual people are represented in both erotica and erotic romances. Being bi/pan does not mean one has to behave like a rabid animal in heat, fucking everything which can't manage to jump up a tree fast enough. It also doesn't mean, someone automatically has the ethics of a porn actor. Yet here again we get a book which works on that premise, and sorry, but I've really had enough.

Strike three was the author's language and manner of describing sex and kink. This potentially might work for a gay/bi MALE audience, though Christopher Pierce e.g. is as over the top and far more funny and readable than Edwards, but it sure as hell didn't work for me. The sex was emotionless, loveless, unerotic and mostly sordid (and it takes a lot to make me say sth like this!), most of the described kink was downright ugly and not in any understanding or friendly way. Which to me is the worst kind of kink shaming ever. A lot of the language is not what I find even vaguely erotic either, and the descriptions of female anatomy are curiously off...putting. The latter may be a cultural phenomenon, because I dislike most sexual texts written by Americans for some reason. In this case though, the distaste was particularly marked.

I didn't stay for the rest of the story, I gave up halfway through. It was life time I spent in a manner disgusting me, time I can't get back, so there.

And now I need a shower.

This was beautiful ❤️ I loved the celebration of life, loyalty and eventual love. There was compassion and joy in rediscovering a part of life that was lost to Nick & Alethia... Jasper was perfect. A feel good story that made me smile

This book flew out out of the gate for me. It started out hot and dirty AF and then we meet Nick and Alethia and it kicked me right in the feels. I loved them all together. I loved what JD brought to them. How he helped heal them. And what they gave him in return.

This wasn’t a long book, and as such I thought the ending was a little rushed. I wanted more. Because the relationship goes from client to more pretty fast I would have liked to have the epilogue be further down the road and the drama in the story explored in more detail. Still a worthy read though.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

First, to be perfectly blunt, sex features into just about every aspect of this story. When JD is not with the Ballentines, Edwards largely focuses on how JD interacts with other clients. On the one hand, this builds JD’s character as someone very in tune with physical relationships and with an ability to read and respond to what his clients want (which lends more credibility to JD hitting the mark just about every time he’s in the bedroom with the Ballentines). On the other hand, that increases the on-page exploration of sexuality that isn’t about our main three characters.

JD’s introduction into the Ballentine’s bedroom was couched as Nick trying to find a way to ensure Alethia is physically satisfied and Nick himself is initially presented as nothing other than a cisgender straight man. This holds true the first time the three are together, where JD seems to occupy a role more like a sex surrogate. Personally, I was a little let down by how “sidelined” I thought Nick was in the initial JD + Ballenintes scenes. As the physical spark grows between Alethia, JD, and Nick, Edwards does focus some hefty attention on the Nick/JD dynamic.

There are books that while you read them you know they have issues, that somethings are ridiculous and you wonder why you keep reading? But you do, because they have a charm to it. This one was exactly that.

The blurb got me into this one. A lovely couple who's sex life has taken a toll because the husband had an accident and he became paraplegic, so they decide to search for a third party, hiring an escort. It sounds really intriguing doesn't it? And it was actually sweet, told in JD's POV (the escort)

What I liked:
- As I said it was really sweet, the couple really needed help, they loved each other but didn't know how to get over their problem.
- The sex was hot, specially because JD likes a little bit of role-playing and since he's bisexual, grrr.
- The characters were really sweet, good people who loved wholeheartedly no matter the circumstances.

What made me say WTF:
- The language that Nick's uses with JD sometimes is just a big What? From me, like calling him dude when they are dating, and even when they are doing the horizontal tango. Being all bro like in weird circumstances, yikes.
- I thought that there was an imbalance in the relationship, where we got more of the two guys and the girl was an afterthought. She was a great character but the author didn't bother much on her.
- The relationship development at the end felt rushed.

It was short and entertaining, with a lovely idea. I weirdly enjoyed it! 🤭❤🥰

Bi is the name of the game

At last, finished this book. A tale of a male escort who acts as a bull for couples into the lifestyle. He meets a couple where the husband is a paraplegic and is finding it difficult in pleasing his wife so, through a friend, invites the escort in to satisfy wifey. Ends up satisfying more than the wife however, which was a surprise for me, should have read the synopsis a bit closer I guess..silly boy! A good read with a HEA, perhaps a bit long?

A (male) hooker with a heart of gold narrates this story. JD, as he's known professionally, is called to provide his services to the wife of a paraplegic man. He does so, but over time, he comes to care about the couple, Alethia and Nick, and they him. At each meeting, the three become more entwined emotionally and physically.

Some reviewers have said they didn't get much of a sense of Alethia's and Nick's feelings. I think that to some extent that's unavoidable in a first-person account. I gather that they were used to hiring people to do things for them -- cooking, cleaning, Nick's personal care -- so JD seemed like just another servant to them, at first. But I do believe they came to care about him just as much as he did about them by the end of the book.

The story is both sweet and hot. And I learned some things about what paraplegic men can do in bed.

I wasn't keen on the drama near the end, but I guess you have to have something to round out the plot. It can't all be eating and talking and sex for the main characters.

Overall book rating: 3.8
Audio Book: N/A
Book Cover: 3

This was much better than the previous MMF
I had my hands on.

I could have done with a fade to black on Jasper and
his "work" situations with other couples but I'll let
that slide.

I really liked all three characters. I enjoyed the fact
that the author put more depth into the story. More
reality, and feel.

Not just focused on the sexy times.

Did I want MORE depth? More time between them?
YES!
And since this is fiction for crying out load could
Nick not at least just get to have a certain part of
himself back on the wagon??

I found the little thing with her dad at the end
kind of 'strange' and not in a good way. But what
the heck.

Overall it was very enjoyable.

**ARC received from author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.**

I liked the concept of this story: An escort is hired to assist a married couple with a rather unique bedroom issue. Told from the escort's POV, the reader gets a candid look into his profession as a sex worker, fulfilling fantasies of well-to-do couples and individuals.

JD has a pretty awesome skill set: he's bisexual, good at reading cues, and can adapt to any situation in the blink of an eye. The story jumps right into the erotica, setting the tone for the rest of the story. This is definitely not a book for anyone easily shocked or embarrassed by explicit sex scenes. (One would have to wonder why such a person would pick up a book about an escort--with "escort" in the title, no less.)

The reader gets to see the glamorous side of JD's job (hot and varying sex with mostly classy people) and the somewhat seedy side (role playing taken a bit too extreme). Jasper/JD's feelings and emotions are perfectly conveyed, and it's easy to get absorbed in his train of thought.

While I liked Jasper/jD, I felt disconnected from Nick and Ali. I didn't get Nick or Ali's inner thoughts because everything is told through Jasper/JD's eyes and perception. I also didn't feel the emotional connection between the three. It was apparent to me that Jasper was lonely and seeking a committed relationship. Ali, on the other hand, came across as a bit spoiled and entitled. Nick almost seemed like Ali's doormat.

There were some word choices that were slightly off-putting for me. As I mentioned, the story starts off with an explicit sexual encounter, and while I have absolutely no issue with explicit content, the use of the words "juicy" and "cream" was unpleasant for me to read. Thankfully, those words were not used again. Additionally, Jasper/JD and Nick frequently call each other "dude" and "buddy", even after they agree to end their professional relationship and pursue a personal one. Not words I associate with romantic or sexual partners.

Another issue I had with the story was the manipulation of the three by a minor character. This made the whole premise seem unauthentic.

Overall, the writing was good but the story left me feeling like something was missing.

My Review:
Wow... I truly wasn't sure what to expect with this book. While I've bought a few of this author's books from his other pen-name, I've never actually read any of them. So, I was going into this author's writing style completely blind, but I couldn't resist that story line. A triad mmf, an escort, and a paraplegic injury...everything about this story appealed to me. And I'll note right now...the story did work for me. I really enjoyed reading it.

Note of warning: the first few pages of the book were a little harsh and jolting on the erotic, gritty side. I was really worried that the style of this book wouldn't work for me. If you find that too, don't stop reading. That 'feel' lasts for just a few pages and then the book gets really, really good!!

So, this story...it starts and end with JD or Jasper, which is his real name. The entire book is told from his point of view. He's an escort, a prostitute, a hooker, a whore...it depends on his attitude of the minute as to what he refers to himself as. He's done this job for seven years and there are definitely a wide share of bad customers and decent ones, but none have affected him like his first appointment with Alethia and Nick.

Before Nick's accident, Alethia and Nick had a fantastic sex life, but they haven't been able to achieve anything close to that since. Nick's the one who's pushing for their hiring of JD. Nick loves his wife so much, he wants her to be happy, but he truly doesn't expect the outcome. JD is VERY aware he's stepping into a happy marriage, which is an uncomfortable place to be. He wants Nick involved so that no hard feelings happen. Instead a totally different kind of feelings evolve, surprising all three of them.

Seriously, this book was so, so good. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. The story was riveting and hot and actually romantic. There's love and respect, which is so important for this setup and story line. It worked wonderfully.

I HIGHLY recommend this book!! It was incredible.

I read this a few weeks ago, and I still can't get the characters out of my head. Edwards has crafted three people who are so real and raw that they stick with you long after the story is over. I adored every minute of reading this. Very high heat level to go along with a well-done plot.

I am always a bit leery when a story states it’s MMF Bisexual romance. I was pleasantly surprised at the turn of events in this book and how well the story played out.

JD Pierce is an escort, a prostitute, a whore, a lover-for-hire. What ever you want to call him doesn’t matter. He doesn’t mince words or thoughts of what he is and what he does. But he’s extremely careful with his clientele and his business. You can never be too careful when the service’s you are providing are considered a crime. When one of his high paying regular customers refers a young lady to him he’s a bit leery. It turns out the young woman needs his unique abilities to help her with her marriage. Alethia and Nick are a happy, loving couple that have been dealt a shattering blow to their marriage. An unfortunate and life altering accident has left Nick as a paraplegic with no sensations below the waist. It has been a difficult situation for them since they were both highly sensual and sexually active together. They have been to psychiatrists , counselors and therapists with nothing working. Alethia is worried that she is losing her beloved husband and will do anything to make their lives work. When her godmother Meredith suggests that she talk to a young man that she knows quite well JD agrees to come and try to meet with the couple. But how can a bisexual paid escort, a college professor and her straight husband make an unique triad work?

I will admit, when this book started out I was genuinely concerned that it might not be the right book for our review site. Although the first couple did eventually include the husband and there was some quick MM action I was hesitant when Alethia said her husband was straight. Nick and Alethia were main characters, according to the blurb, and MFM wasn’t going to work for me here. I was actually relieved and thrilled when this book took a sudden and much needed turn. However it doesn’t happen until over 50% into the book when Nick and Alethia finally admit to JD, who they now know is really Jasper, that Nick has “feelings” towards Jasper.

I think one of my most favorite little tidbits in one of the scenes was when JD is taken down a notch. He is blessed with being well endowed and is use to men and women being pleasantly surprised and eager for his endowment. I loved when he finally saw Nick naked and realized he wasn’t the most endowed in their triad. It actually made me chuckle that he was in awe and actually a bit jealous of how much more endowed Nick was than him.

This book is filled with a lot of sex and a good portion of it is MF or MFM so, if you aren’t into having women involved in the sex, this isn’t the book for you. However, if you don’t mind having women in the bedroom then I believe that you will be surprised on how this sexy romp (and yes there is a lot of sex…I mean what do you expect from a paid male escort?) turns into a tender and sweet love story. I loved how their relationship ship bloomed and grew. Nick and Alethia could have cared less about conventional relationships if bringing Jasper into theirs was the missing piece to a lifetime of love and happiness. I also appreciated that Alethia was Greek and bisexuality is considered common to her. Her ability to help her husband explore his sexuality was wonderful. All Alethia wanted was for Nick to be happy and not feel like he was letting her down.

One of the parts that ticked me off a bit was Adras, Alethia’s father. I know how protective a parent can be. No one wants to mess with this protective Mama so I get taking care of and trying to protect your only child. And I get that they are extremely wealthy and can be a mark however there is a difference between love and caring and crossing the line. Adras went outside of what is considered meddling and took it to a whole other level of manipulation!

Even though there was a tad bit more MF than I am usually comfortable with in my MMF triads this story actually worked for me. I am so thankful that I stuck with it when my concerns began to grow. This is a really well written and thoughtful story of how an unconventional and unique solution to a problem can not only save the original relationship but improve it. I hope that you enjoy this story of love and commitment as much as I did.

Surprisingly sweet!

I don’t know why, but finding good MMF stories seems to be a challenge—MFM/reverse harem is a lot more common. Overall, this was one of the better ones I’ve read.

I appreciated that it was actually a romance and not just erotica, and I enjoyed the chemistry between the main character and the couple. I liked the storyline of why he was brought in—not just as a boy-toy for a couple (not that there is anything wrong with that!)—but as someone needed to fulfill a role they were missing. JD (Jasper) is thoughtful in the way he interacts with the couple, and they end up embracing him as a true third. I loved that they weren’t ashamed to show it, either.

Sex does figure prominently in the story (no surprise), but it didn’t feel like a lot of mindless sex scenes for the sake of sex scenes. There was some nice healing that happened in Nick as a result of their intimacy.

Small nitpicks: I thought the use of “buddy” as a pet name between Jasper/Nick was a bit weird because it sounds too much like bros hanging out. Not sure what would have been better … maybe “hot stuff,” or just their own names? There were a few times their interactions seemed like friends more than lovers, but I guess that could make sense in the context of the story being that Nick was new to his bi-hood and Jasper was working to make him comfortable. Could also have done without the scenes with other couples once Jasper has already met Nick/Alethia—I get that he was an escort, and they sort of show how his heart isn’t in it anymore once he meets the couple, and how he’s struggling with it. Still, I would have preferred fewer details there in favor of an epilogue a few years out.

I hope this won’t be the author’s only MMF.

The Escort's Tale is the first M/M/F romance I've read, and if I read any others, they will have a very high bar to reach when compared to this outstanding work. This book pulls you out of your comfort zone, makes you think, makes you hot and bothered (and boy, howdy does it, as they say in Texas), but above all, it does what any good book is supposed to do: it tells you a story that makes you forget the drudgery of day to day life.

Jasper (aka JD when he's on duty) is a bisexual sex escort in Boston. He's outstanding at his job, which prompts one of his regular clients to recommend him to Alethia and Nick. Nick had a rock climbing accident, which left him a paraplegic. Becoming increasingly despondent over his inability to sexually satisfy his wife, he agrees to try JD services. What begins as a business transaction blossoms into a mutually genuine relationship between JD, Alethia, and Nick, with Nick embracing his bisexuality.

Can a triad work? Can JD give up his sex worker job and become dependent on the wealth of Alethia and Nick to keep him happy? Can these three people truly love each other equally? These questions percolate through your mind as you read this great book, and if you're like me, you won't be able to put it down until the very last page. Even then you'll go to the very, very end to make sure you didn't miss a hidden epilogue.

Kudos to Mr. Edwards (aka Robert Winter, one of the best romance writers I've ever read) for daring to write a non-traditional work that takes you out of the ordinary world. Normally I'm not a fine of first person narratives told in the present tense, but it totally works for this book, as you get to experience all of Jasper's anxiety, hopes, and desires. And kudos to him for showing that paraplegics haven't lost their desire for life and love because of their disability. Like all of us, they want and need love and physical

This book was so thoroughly enjoyable I usually stick with straight mm books. But this one I asked to review because when I read the blurb I knew I had to read it. You know sometimes when you enjoy something so much you struggle to find the perfect words as to why you enjoyedit, I'm having that problem. I thoroughly loved each character separately and then all together, they where all so beautiful and sweet and thoughtful of each other. Nick was so full of heart not to say, that the other two weren't but I admit to a big soft spot for him.
I thoroughly recommend this book it is one you won't regret reading I guarantee it. This book may be MMF but it is still a different dynamic to normal mf. So even if you primary read only mm you will not really think much on the mmf dynamic because the story of these three brilliant characters make you see past that and only see thier strong bond/connection.

As I said earlier I voluntarily requested to review this book because just reading a little about it made me no drove me to won't to read more even though it was mmf. So that in it self may help you know even though I only read mm or thriller this one called to me to look past the f part of it and I am glad I did because it was brilliant, beautiful and heartwarming and always a bit of heat.

This book is one of those that you read and it stays with you long after you close it. Besides the fact that it's scorchingly hot, the level of emotion, communication, and connection between all 3 characters was off the charts and totally unexpected. I'm still dumbstruck at how amazingly this book worked. Might be time for a re-read.
