What could be more terrifying than falling in love with the person who is your good place? Maybe realizing just a smidge too late that there can be dire consequences to becoming your best friend’s lover.
The lives of Keir Stevens and Selene Georgiou serendipitously collide midspan on San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, one jarring step ahead of fate. He’s a temporary transplant from Seattle; she’s facing the biggest career opportunity of her life. They have no notion of the common thread that connects them.
As they come to discover they share a similar adversity, their relationship evolves from a fun and frivolous infatuation with nowhere to go into a true friendship with sincerity, humor, and respect at its heart.
It’s awfully hard not to fall in love with that — even if you’re pretty darn certain you shouldn’t.
But when love and friendship suffer their own devastating collision—their interests brutally conflicting—the consequences of blurring the lines between the two suddenly become real. In the end, which one will be the stronger? And more important, can either survive?
AFTEREFFECTS is a stand-alone, dual-POV adult contemporary romance about the things we choose in life out of all the things that are beyond our choosing—a tale of love and friendship, of time and how we spend it, and of the inner wars that ultimately show us what really matters.
LJ Greene is a self-professed obsessive multi-tasker who writes boring stuff by day and lets her inner romantic fly by night. This California native is married to the most amazing man and has two incredible children who feed her soul every day. She’s an avid reader of all genres with an embarrassingly large ebook collection, and a weird penchant for reading the acknowledgements at the end of a novel. She’s also a music lover with no apparent musical talent, a travel enthusiast, and a cheese connoisseur.
Reviewed on behalf http://bookaddict.live, This is book three in the Ripple Effect Series, and this time we have Selene’s story. If you have read the first two books in the series you would have already met Selene. If you haven’t this can be read as a standalone. Can you imagine meeting the love of your life by running your car into the rear of his truck? Well that’s what happens when Selene is putting on her mascara and accidently drives into the back of his food truck. Selene is lucky enough to meet Keir who sounded moody but is a real sweetheart, I fell for Keir very early on. When they meet both are going through heartache. This about a couple who struggle when their lives take them to different places. This a beautiful romance and it felt so realistic , but very emotional. This is told in dual narration so we really understand how both Selene and Keir really feel. I really enjoyed this book and I couldn't help cheering Selene and Keir on their happily ever after. This is a beautiful and moving story and I for one am happy to have discovered another author to read.
Every decision, every action, has an after effect. This book marvelously explores how a chance encounter between Keir and Selene changes everything for the two of them, and how the consequences of all of their actions impacts them.
They meet when they are both at a crossroads in their lives — Stuck between the past and the future. There is an immediate connection between them and from that forms a wonderful friendship. A friendship that they both rely on immensely. But when you begin to realize that you are falling in love with your best friend, is it worth crossing that line, blurring those boundaries, for the chance at something more amazing?
This story had me tied in knots. Both Keir and Selene knew their relationship had an expiration date, and they just couldn’t come to terms with join to work around that. Until they do... because Aftereffects has a wonderful HEA and I was so happy to get to that last page after traveling this journey with this couple!
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
I was sent a free copy by Xpresso blog tours in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book although the love story rung way too accurate for myself at the very moment which was...nice for some moments but entirely frustrating with other moments.
I very much enjoyed the storyline although I did find the story to be a tad rushed towards the ending but it was understandable because the author had to tie up loose ends to build up to the ending. I do really need more of Keir's and Selene's story so I'm praying their story gets added to!
This is the first book I have read of L. J. Greene, and although it's the third in the series, I didn't feel that made any negative impact in my opinion and understanding of this book, in fact, it males me want to go read the other two books as soon as I can.
This was an emotional story. There are a lot of aspects I love in this book, and that in some ways I can relate. First let me tell you about the characters. I loved that the book had a dual point of view, I feel like that opened my understanding of the characters and made the story stronger, in this case, since it was a Friends to Lovers romantic plot.
Then there is that romantic plot aspect. Friends to Lovers is always something I find intriguing in a book. It makes me wonder because of some past experiences. And I could understand what they were feeling in the "taking a chance". I ended up not taking any chances at all, because I truly believed it was a one sided love. And since he didn't take a chance on me either... I may have done the right thing. But the wondering still goes through my mind sometimes. Anyway, I could connect with them because of that.
Then, of course, were the amazing way the characters were written in this story. They felt real. I felt empathy and seeing how their feeling develop and how their relationship progressed into meeting to friends to lovers was fantastic. Keir was charming, funny, determined, intelligent and sexy. Selena was an amazing female character since she was driven, funny, smart and strong. Of course, they felt real because not only could I see the qualities, I could see their faults, insecurities and demons, and that just made them two amazing characters.
Overall, I loved the book. It's a book I recommend to everyone, not only as an escape from real world, but also just to enjoy a good love story that touches hearts and make us wondering about our personal lives, because of the connection we may get and feel. And to me, seeing their love blossoming and their relationship making them be the support system they need to deal with all the demons and problems in their lives was perfect for the all storyline and felt real.
[I want to thank Giselle, at Xpresso Book Tours, and L. J. Greene for the eCopy of this book and for allowing me to join in the fun and by being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book.]
This was my first book by L.J. Greene, even though its part of a series and haven't read the others, this as a standalone was a really good read which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Keir and Selene meet in the most unfortunate of circumstances - she crashes into the back of his food truck! But their attraction to each other is obvious right from the start, but it is a strong friendship they develop first, each finding something in each other, unknowingly at first that they have a tragic and heartbreaking family trait in common.
Their connection is so strong and undeniable that this quickly moves from friends to lovers, even though both of them fear this next step, Keir lives in a completely different state and is just looking to open up another business there, and Selene is busy at work with a massive client that takes up all of her time here. Can a long distance relationship work for them?
This is quite an emotional read at times, especially with their tragic family connection, both being the rock each other needs. Keir is a wonderful character, even though he is very wary of a long distance relationship having had a failed one under his belt, he can see no other way out, as Selene has got under his skin and he can't think of not having her in his life. This was the one sided bit of the relationship and Selene was as all in as he was, but didn't see herself with him in the future, believing the relationship was bound to end at some stage due to their differences in work and living arrangements, though never wanting it to end. The problems they have to work with and around being so very real and it was so very easy to get lost in their story.
It was a well written and believable story line and you could easily connect with the characters and what they were going through. Highly recommended reading.
Selene & Keir meet in an exciting way and a great place. Selene accidentally wrecks into Keir's food truck. They soon become fast friends with a hint of flirting. They have so many things in common and their attraction is intense however they are struggling with the long distance aspect, can they make it work?
I really enjoyed this story. From the start the two meet in such a peculiar way. You wouldn't expect them to hit it off so well after an accident. They have such an easy flow of communication as friends and as lovers. I like that they have so many similarities in their lives. Both are career driven, both of their fathers suffer the same illness. This was truly a heartwarming, sweet, adoring story with amazing characters and a wonderful storyline. I highly recommend this one!
Emotional and moving story This book was difficult for me to read at times because of the grief both Keir and Selene were dealing with. At times it was too close to my own grief. But I had promised to read and review so I continued to read. I'm glad I finished. It has a wonderful conclusion. I like that the story goes back and forth between Keir and Selene. You see the progression of their feelings. They are at various stages of grief. It is very moving how their love is able to help them deal with their difficulties. Be sure to get a copy it is a good read.
I've received a ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is my first novel I've read by L.J Greene and needless to say, I am impressed! It left me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't help but root for Keir and Selene. There is definitely a strong connection between the two that you can't help but want them to have their happily ever after. A great storyline about being stuck between being a lover/friend and dealing with life changing events.
I look forward to reading other parts of the series!
Amazing, amazing love story! Loved both main characters! Nice to touch base with the MC’s in the first two books. Can’t say for sure what couple I liked better, but Ms Greene’s writing is still stellar. Great sense of humor, real life situations, and smokin’ intimate encounters. Looking forward to reading what this author has next up her sleeve. And, of course, one gorgeous cover to boot!
They met under less than perfect situation when she crashed into his food truck. The attraction was mutual as they became friends and lovers. They shared dying dads as they found comfort in each other.
But things seemed to be moving too fast as they took a break. Will they be able to have a future together after all? A sweet story.
Keir and Selene meet at critical times in their lives. They end up becoming good friends but feelings develop between them. Will a series of events destroy their relationship as friends and lovers? This was a good read about the choices we make in life and the consequences we have to suffer.
I loved Afterffects. I loved the setting of San Francisco. It was very emotional book. I enjoyed the part where they had sex in the store dressing room. I liked Keir he is cool character. It was a good book.
This book was so much better than I expected. Aside from Colleen Hoover’s works, adult contemporary romance isn’t really my thing. Usually in these kinds of books, I can’t find anything that sets the book apart from other books. Forgettable is a word I can describe most of what I’ve read on this genre. But this book has surpassed my expectations in a lot of ways.
Keir and Selene, the book’s main characters, met through an accident. When they first met, they had no idea that they would be so important to each other. But the more Keir and Selene spent time with each other, the more they like each other. At first, they decided to stay as friends because there’s a lot on their plate and Keir will leave soon. They agree that long distance relationships are hard but being friends is so hard when you’re both extremely attracted to each other.
I guess one reason why I liked the book so much is because you can really relate to it. The struggles of their relationships are common struggles of couples all over the world. With me personally, I connected to the book so much because I felt exactly how they felt. I was in their position. Sometimes, we use books as an escape to go to places we’ve never been and see a world we will never see. At those times, we read a fantasy or an adventure or even a dystopian book. At this moment, I started to really appreciate the New Adult or Romance genre. In this book, I’ve seen a mirror that shows the reality of how relationships are actually hard work and how you have to strive together to make it work. I really liked the “Will we or won’t we?” part of the book. A lover who you really really liked in all aspects is hard to find but a great friendship like Keir and Selene had is also just as rare. That’s why I completely understand how Keir was hesitant to move on to the next level. You wouldn’t want to ruin a friendship knowing that the two of you really had a great understanding of each other.
I also really liked how this book was written. The sentences flow so easily that I didn’t really have any difficulty understanding what the author meant. The dialogues are also very cute. I really loved how Keir and Selene interacted. I love what they say to each other and I also love reading about their POVs. There are parts that I just couldn’t help but laugh and smile with them. And when it was in the part where they don’t know where their relationship stands, my heart was breaking with them too. When an author can make you feel all those emotions the characters are feeling, then that author deserves admiration. Aside from emotions, this book can also make you feel hot. Some parts of this book are just steamy. And the descriptions are just great, I didn’t really see the sex scenes are just sexual but are really intimate and passionate.
Now, I just want to talk about the main characters. I absolutely adore both of them! Selene is the kind of strong woman I aspire to be. She’s focused on her career but her family life is not compromised. And when a tragedy comes to her life, she is strong even when she is vulnerable. And Keir… where do I find a guy like him? I like how he tries to be rational but at the same time emotional. I see in him just the balance of the two. But the thing I liked the most with these two is that they are supportive of each other’s dreams. They both try to work around their busy lives and career. They didn’t really think that the other person should give up what they do to be together. I liked that in the end there was just compromise. I feel like everyone should read this book so that we shall have an idea on how to handle things when we encounter the same problems as they did. These characters are mature, they’re both adults who own up to their mistakes.
Overall, this book is unexpectedly great. This book is perfect for readers who wants their emotions to be all over the place because this book will make you feel all kinds of things. Selene and Keir are perfect characters- they are characters you can aspire to be but at the same time you can also see that they are human. This might be the bests book I’ve read this 2018. I really highly recommend this book!
I'm not even sure where to begin. From the moment this book starts, you are thrown into an emotional roller coaster that so closely resembles the chance encounters of real life. Keir and Selene meet in the most awkward situation possible: she crashes her car into the back of his Food Truck.
Their attraction is immediate. It is uncontrollable. They find themselves inexplicably drawn to one another and build a relationship on this connection that neither of them can truly fathom or explain.Intensity doesn't even begin to touch the edges of describing their interactions. Each character seems fully in tune with the other's emotions and quickly checks themselves.
"It was always that first look of his that killed me. Unfiltered, it was like intensity and appetite combined in a way I’d never seen before on anyone. I couldn’t say it was aimed at me specifically, but it definitely affected me. It felt like fire racing through my veins whenever he looked at me that way. Luckily, it only ever lasted a second before he blinked and something more benign replaced it."
All I can really say is that Greene is masterful with her personable writing, reality checks in terms of keeping the relationship believable, and creating two completely loveable characters that you don't really want the story to end. Keir is deeply endearing; he would rather make himself suffer than hurt anyone he cares about. Selene is a gorgeous woman with some of the nerdiest quirks (snorting and her love for cheese); she also would put her own needs and desires aside to keep Keir from being hurt.
Together they start a whirlwind romance that just cannot be compared to any other, due to the devastating commonality they both have in losing someone close to them. Through this they blossom a beautiful relationship but then Keir must return home to Seattle and Selene stays in San Francisco. Can their love overcome these distances?
Read now to find out how Keir and Selene end up! <3
Well, what a read this was. I love friends to lovers stories, they are one of my favourite plots in romance books. Having said that, this one was a little different. This isn't two longtime friends who find that there is more to their relationship than they'd realised. Rather, it's about two people who are attracted to one another but feel that they can't be together, but at the same time, they develop a deep friendship. In many ways, this book felt as though it were telling a more real and lifelike love story than many romance books out there. I haven't read anything by L.J. Green before, but I'd certainly be interested in future books. I loved the writing style and that certainly helped to move the story along. Both Keir and Selene were great characters. If anything Keir was a little too good to be true, he was so sweet you couldn't help but like him. Even when he was being a dick, he was doing it for the right reasons. I loved this book, the storyline, the characters, the way they worked out what was important to themselves and each other. I was left with a big happy sigh. Highly recommended.
