ASIN moved from this edition STEVIE I’ve spent years running from a dangerous past, only to have the wounds I’ve worked so hard to conceal split open because of Zane. I hated that I fell for my best friend’s sexy older brother. But I did. Now, more than ever, I fear my past is catching up with me. And I refuse to drag Zane into it.
But my heart and body have other plans.
Even if my head is telling me to run.
ZANE I knew Stevie was too good for me. I was damaged. I didn’t deserve someone like her, even if she did have a dark past. But I couldn’t get thoughts of her crimson lips and what they would feel like against mine out of my head.
So, I did the one thing I told myself I wouldn’t do. I fell for my little sister’s best friend.
But with her threatening past lurking over her shoulder, there was only one thing left to do.
Damaged Hearts by Ashley Hodge is exciting and intriguing. It had me turning the pages and feeling a gamut of emotions from dread to excitement. I don’t know exactly what I was expecting going in but this book is so much more than I thought it would be.
Stevie Russo has a troubled past. A past she thought she left behind forever when she left her hometown of Portland. When her best friend Jordan needs her help, however, she returns. Here, she meets and is instantly attracted to Zane, Jordan’s older brother. With Stevie’s past she knows she can never be with Zane but that does not stop the desire and want she has for him
Zane Malley is an ex-military man. After being in the military so long he is brutal and harsh. He also has a lot of anger geared towards his father. When Stevie comes into his life, he begins to laugh again. He also feels and instant pull towards Stevie but knows deep down he is not good enough for her.
Will Zane and Stevie be able to mend their hearts or are their pasts just too much to overcome?
I enjoyed this story tremendously.
Zane is sex on a stick. I could feel the sexy drip right off of him. The way he talks, you just know he has swagger. For all his sexiness, he sure could me make mad with the stupid decisions he made!
Stevie is oh so strong. She's scared of letting anyone in for fear that they will judge her once they know her past. I loved that she wasn’t a pushover and that when push comes to shove, she did what needed to be done!
Draven is Zane’s best friend and he stood out as a character. I would really like to read his story.
Recommended to anyone who loves an exciting, page-turning read with a HEA
I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is an excellent book by debut author Ashley M. Hodge. Stevie is a girl on the run from her past. She’s forced to confront it when she goes back home to assist her best friend, Jordan, during her father’s illness. Once back home, Stevie finds herself falling hard and fast for Jordan’s brother, Zane. Together, they struggle to deal with the past in the hopes for a brighter future. This is an engaging steamy romance with motorcycles, secrets, intrigue, love, passion, and second chances.
Damaged Hearts by Ashley M Hodge is the story of Stevie Russo and Zane Malley. Stevie left Portland a few years ago to get away from her past. But her best friend Jordan needs her when her father gets sick. Stevie is doesn't wish to return to her past but cannot let her best friend down. Zane has been in the miltary for some years which has left him a change man. It has harden him and made him drawn into him self. But there is something about Stevie that makes him start to feel something different. Stevie knows that anything she is feeling for Zane can't be something she can have...not with her past. Their attraction just grows until there isn't anything they can do but act on it. This was a really good romance about two broken people that didn't feel they could have love or deserve it but what they found is that they did deserve it.
I enjoyed the storyline of Zane and Stevie I just feel like I wanted more character background. Get to know them both a little more if that makes sense.
Contemporary romance isn't usually my choice since I prefer historical romances, but this book was recommended to me. It didn't disappoint. I read it in less than a day. The characters were well developed and realistic. The reader is drawn in to their lives and turmoil. I felt both the highs and the lows as Stevie, the lead female character, and Zane struggled to figure out what could grow between them. There were some surprising twists, and I found myself trying to predict what would happen next. The only part that was a little troublesome were the typos and misplaced/inverted words, but it wasn't enough to detract from the story.
**4.5 Stars** This was a great first book by a debut author! The characters were well developed and had quite a bit of depth. I love that they had "damaged hearts," but the story was not too dark. It was a quick read with plenty of heat and a little action. I gave it 4.5 stars instead of 5 only because of a few typos and grammatical errors that pulled me out of the story on occasion. All in all, it was a very entertaining read. I would like to put in a request for Jordan and Draven's story next! 😁
Zane &Stevie’s dark pasts and broken souls consumed me. Their story was exciting and nerve racking to explore. About half way through the book I was so invested in the outcome of the story I couldn’t put the book down. Ashley Hodge has written an enjoyable debut book and I can’t wait to read more of this series!
Stevie Russo flies back to her hometown Portland, Oregon to help her best friend, Jordan, who’s dad has a heart issue and is in the hospital. Portland is a place she has no desire to return to because of past issues with a dangerous ex-boyfriend, Jeremy. During her trip back, she meets Jordan’s estranged older brother, Zane, who has been in the army and never kept in touch with Jordan and their dad. Despite the mutual attraction they feel towards each other, Stevie knows she must keep her distance from Zane. Not only is he her best friend’s brother, but she does not want to get him involved with anything tied to her past and Jeremy. Zane also has issues from being in the army and he feels he is not worthy of having anyone. But soon their sexual tension boils over and once they get a taste of one another they can’t ignore their chemistry anymore.
This was a great story about overcoming troubled pasts and knowing their self-worth. Stevie has guilt about things that happened in the past and must work on forgiving herself. Zane has to find a way to mend the broken relationships he has with Jordan and their father and show Jordan she can count on him. They are amazing together once they learn to trust each other with their damaged pasts. I’m looking forward to this author’s next book!
An not a reader i started to read this book a few days ago but reading isn't my big strength. Finally I picked up from where I left off and couldn't put the book down I read it in one day and finished by the next morning.I like that every chapter was about the main characters thoughts and feelings. If it was a chapter about Stevie it was about her but at the end you knew it was gliding into Zanes character. Love the love and sexual tension they have for each other. Very expressive!
Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down. I loved every minute. Thank you so much Ashley Hodge for such a well thought out and well written novel. The characters make you think about life and its definitely worth reading.
Stevie and Zane, I feel were a typical best friends brother romance. It was a good story line, just not quite executed in the best way. Definitely room for improvement, as I think the ideas were great.
