The book I am writing about is called “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. I choose to read this book because back in 7th grade my English teacher suggested this book to me, and it has been on my bucket list and this past summer I finally had time to read the book. I also choose this book because I love suspenseful books, and once this book gets going and gets to the exciting part it is also written in a way that leaves you at the edge of your seat. While I was reading the book, I thought it was a very slow start and was not entirely clear what the plot or the context of the time period was, but once I read the back cover (which I would highly recommend before starting the book) the book picked up and I had trouble putting it down. “Fahrenheit 451” was full of unexpected twists that completely turns the plot on its feet and running the other way. Early on in the book there is very little that surprises you because it gives you the daily life of the main character, Guy Montag. About halfway through the book Montag realizes that there is so much wrong in society with the government censoring all of the books that people have access to which could give people knowledge and realize what is happening to them is wrong. In my opinion the characters in the book are the classic uprising characters, normally somebody close to the power, Montag, does not agree with what is going on in the book after his eyes are opened by a teenage girl named Clarisse McClellan. The way that Montag resolved it, without going into the details of the book specifically, was he realized he could not doing anything inside the confines of everyday society because everybody he would talk to would go against him. After reading this book I know personally I am looking at different societies in the world and seeing how even though this book was written in 1950, it still accurately portrays parts of the world today that censor the types of books that the people there are allowed to read, and that this story is really not that far of the stretch of the imagination to actually happen. In my opinion, Bradbury wrote this book to show us the dangers of not letting people pick what books they would like to read and that some people don’t care for what is right or wrong as long as they are with the crowd and aren’t making any waves. Bradbury is a very good writer and I would definitely read other books by him that had a similar theme. I have talked with peers who have also read my book and everybody that I have talked to has thoroughly enjoyed the book and I have highly recommended this book to my peers who have not read this because even though it is not a long book it is still full of information and suspense. Everybody should read this book because it shows what could come to our society, and does happen to some societies in the world, and how hard it would be to try and get people to come back to reading books of their choice. If you like adventure and suspenseful books then this is a perfect book for you. This is a great book that you can read 2 or 3 times and still be at the edge of your seat and finding out new information about it.
I love reading dystopian novels written ages ago just to compare them today. For example, in this novel there are robot dogs and wall sized TV screens that personalize advertisements for whoever is watching them, but the main character and his wife still sleep in separate beds.
Its quite a good book, about a society where books are outlawed because the government don't want people to know too much. They feel there is a limit on how much information the public should know and anything that extends the possibilities for more information should be destroyed. Firemen are no longer local heroes, but men who burn books and set fire to homes where people are keeping books secretly.
It's not a fabulous read, but that might be my ignorance talking, I still enjoyed it :) Recommended if you cast your eyes across it :)
I think it is ok, it is confusing at some points. Some pages are easy to understand but some are harder than others. It is an old book it dates back to 1988 and I know a teacher that read it, too. I liked the park were the firefighter tries to tame this wild beatst (I have no clue what it is) he tames it and its his pet now and he has a kid now and his wife, beast, and kid live happily together.
