A BRITISH HORSERACING THRILLERBen Ramsden is a racehorse syndicate manager and someone is trying to buy up all the shares in his potentially top-class racehorse 'The Ghost Machine'. What's worse, it looks like the people behind the plot to wrestle 'The Ghost' from his syndicate will stop at nothing to secure all the shares. One by one, the shares are acquired and soon the remaining syndicate members have a tough decision to make when the shadowy group behind the ownership coup makes its true intentions known. Set in England, the story follows the elation, disappointment, intrigue, and thrills of racehorse ownership and reveals a world where the promise of money, recognition, and success can prove to be a toxic combination. When a racehorse starts showing top-class potential as a youngster you can be sure devious people will be out there waiting to snatch ownership from you... The Syndicate Manager was the debut novel by Richard Laws who has worked in the horse racing industry for twenty-five years. A syndicate manager since 2004, he is the founder of the biggest small-share syndication company in the United Kingdom.
I heard about this book in an email I received from ownaracehorse and thought I would give it a try. So glad I did. I struggled to do anything else until I had read just one more chapter! Hopefully Mr laws will continue to write more stories, I for one will be keeping an eye out. Five stars!
A fantastic first book! I enjoyed it so much, I’ve bought his second book, Gimcrack. To think I bought The Syndicate Manager purely on a whim, as I enjoy horse racing thrillers! I was gripped right from the start. I knew little about syndicates, but as well as an exciting thriller, the book also taught me about how syndicates actually work - a bonus! This book romps along - there’s a bit of violence, but not too much. No love triangles to spoil things. This is purely a racing thriller - heaven! I got a bit nervous when it looked as if The Ghost, the syndicate horse, was going to be badly injured a couple of times, but he wasn't. Phew! If you enjoyed Dick Francis/Felix Francis books, you’ll definitely enjoy this. Sounds silly, but I was almost sad when it ended!
This is one of the best books I have read for some time, very well written with much excitement. Really hard to put down once I started to read it. Hopefully the next book will be written soon i can't wait
All that I have read have been fantastic, I miss Dick Francis but these make up for them!!! Plz keep writing! P.s should be every star blue but it wouldn’t let me for some reason.
This book holds your interest from beginning to end. There are some grammar problems or perhaps spell check errors but it was not edited properly. If you love horses you will really enjoy this book. The horses were plentiful and splendid.
The ratings on this book are all lies(last time I'll buy a book based on a small number of reviews). One reviewer stated that this was the new Dick Francis. They are clearly related to Laws or on some type of medication that impairs their abilities to read and communicate. This book is almost unreadable. I forced myself through it but probably shouldn't have. Horrible
